Peter Luger Steakhouse in Great Neck, Long Island, offers an exceptional dining experience that lives up to its renowned reputation. The star of the meal is, of course, the steak—cooked to perfection, tender, and packed with flavor. However, the sides deserve equal attention. The creamed spinach is a creamy, rich delight, with a velvety texture that pairs wonderfully with the steak. The home fries are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfectly seasoned—an irresistible addition to the meal. For dessert, the apple strudel is a must-try. Warm and flaky, with just the right balance of sweet and tart filling, it offers a satisfying finish to an already memorable meal. The atmosphere is classic and timeless, with attentive service to match. If you're in the area, Peter Luger in Great Neck is a fantastic choice for a top-tier steakhouse experience.

This steakhouse is always a great time. You should expect to dress nice, and the atmosphere is beautiful, featuring veneer wood paneled walls and fantastic food / service. This particular location I personally favor, unlike the location in brooklyn. I feel this location is more favorable than brooklyn, because brooklyn forces you out there quickly. I feel that the staff in this location are more mature and witty and have a lot to add to the dinner experience. The steak is cooked to perfection. The bread nice and warm. The plates are hot. The drinks are cold. If you like steak you will like this place. The service, like all Peter Lugers, has the staff waiting on you hand and foot, and it really shows. Thank you always, Peter Luger of Great Neck, for always being awesome. If i had one negative comment, it would be about the high pricing for simple appetizer things like onions and tomatoes. Expect to pay money, expect to get treated really well.

The overall experience was the best I’ve had yet at a restaurant. We went to celebrate my birthday and everyone was so kind. From grabbing a drink at the bar while we had a short wait for our table, to enjoying appetizers, a meal, and dessert (with extra flare of a candle for my birthday) I thoroughly enjoyed my time with my husband! The creamed spinach, potatoes, and steak as a meal was top-notch and the appetizers of bacon and shrimp was amazing. The dessert we had was the hot fudge sundae and we had multiple glasses of delicious wine. Our server was Lorik and gave us great suggestions, was always around to help us, and made the experience that much better! 10/10 experience.

One of my 3 favorite steak houses here in Long Island. Cycled 55 miles and came here with a group of 7. Corked open a bottle of Lugers private label Cabernet Sauvignon at the bar. This wine is smooth & full bodied. 2015 was a great vintage year. All concurred and we corked a 2nd bottle. Need to bring home a case 🥇🥇 My buddy Sam said the cheese burger was the finest he ever had. The steak was tender with a nice hint of pink. Lobsters were succulent & grilled to perfection. Even the rolls were pretty spectacular. Was able to valet our bikes. Definitely return soon just to grab a burger & glass of wine at the bar. Ask for Kevin 👍👍 8/14/24. Another great evening. Jeff works the bar now 💪💪 9/14/24: Just wonderful. But the 2015 Luger’s house wine 🍷 is depleted or shipped out to Tokyo? 😮😮 1/13/25: Highly coveted 2015 Luger’s Cabernet Sauvignon is back. 🤩. Thank you 🙏🏻 Shane Walsh (OFF Tue & Wed) for the IRISH ☘️ LUCK. Paired well with the steak house burger 🍔 CONS: Bar only has 6 chair stools. Cash or debit card only.

The best service ever!! And the food is great. I don’t eat steak and my family members had and told that it was really good. I ordered fish and it was really good too. Daniel, our server was amazing and make sure we didn’t order too much or too little and he know the menu very well and so pleasant! Thank you!!!

It is as good as it's always been, so I'm told. Went with family that's been regular customers, and the food, the service, and the atmosphere are all as expected. Cream spinach is just right. Probably could eat a whole order by myself. Steak ordered medium. One can always argue w the value of anything, but quality is quality. The experience is fantastic, and I would come back again, big party or small.

I had a wonderful experience today. The staff was exceptionally professional and courteous throughout my visit. One staff member, in particular — whose name I, unfortunately, didn’t catch — went above and beyond by assisting me while I was filming the steak. Their attentiveness and thoughtful gesture added a personal touch to an already excellent dining experience. The food was outstanding, as expected, and the service truly elevated the overall experience. I look forward to returning soon.

There’s not much about this place that hasn’t already been said but I realize that Great Neck is such a better experience than Brooklyn and I just want to share that. The food seems more cared for and we just always feel more cared for.. from the waitstaff to especially Kaitlyn (sp?) and Catherine at the front desk, you feel far more cared for and human at Great Neck.. If you’re going to eat the best steak in the world, at least be treated that way. A++

Went for dinner on a weekday — the atmosphere was warm and low-lit, though it did get a bit loud at times. The steak was cooked perfectly, easily the highlight of the meal. Service was friendly but a bit slow after we were initially greeted. Overall, great food and a pleasant dining experience with a classic steakhouse vibe.

I was at the Long Island location. I've been to the OG in Brooklyn many times. First time at the Great Neck establishment. Same Great Food and Service. I was there for my Uncle's 90th Birthday. They treated him like a King. I would highly recommend this place as well as the Original.

The wait in the beginning is quite unnecessary. Most high end restaurants have moved away from this old school practice. If the reservation is set on a specific time and there are tables available, management should do a better job. The porter house is a staple. Cooked evenly this time. The waiters are rockstars and add to the overall experience.

Eating at this classic masterpiece is our annual tradition for our sons birthday. The decor is dark, full of dark wood beams throughout. We appreciate the aged richness of this tudor-esq establishment. In all our years going there, we've always received impeccable service. Our recent server, Andrew, was great. The menu is simple. There is no need to offer 40 different dishes like other restaurants. They know what they're good at. The steak for 2 is more than enough for 3 people, and we always order that with the fried potatoes, cream spinach, thick slice bacon, and jumbo shrimp cocktail Let's say we leave absolutely stuffed. The price of the meal is well worth it. We will continue to come here as it never gets old.

I recently visited Peter Luger steak house and I must say it was an exceptional experience. Firstly, the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. The service was remarkable and Ricky, our waiter, was outstanding. He was knowledgeable about the menu and made recommendations based on our preferences. Now, let's talk about the star of the show - the steak. The steak was cooked to perfection. It was juicy, flavorful, and every bite was a delight. The steak was so tender that it would literally melt in your mouth. The sides were also exceptional, and complimented the steak very well. The creamed spinach and mashed potatoes were a perfect combination. Overall, I had a fantastic time at Peter Luger steak house. The steakhouse lived up to its hype, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience.

Incredible steak. By far the best one I've ever had! The bacon strips are phenomenal! I recommend ordering the water in the glass bottle, the water they give for free is fluoridated tap water. All in all, a great experience and sweet ambiance.

Excellent steak, no frills; just the best. The hamburger is excellent too. The Brooklyn location was known to be better than the Great Neck location but the last few times I have been to Great Neck the steak was incredible.

A meat lover's dream. Wonderful, iconic steakhouse! It's not foo foo, just a classic American steakhouse with the best aged beef. Onsite, valet parking, very good attentive service. Perfectly prepared steak, lamb chops and broccoli. Awesome Sundae, chocolate mousse, and cheesecake! Cash or debit, not credit cards.

First off, I want to thank the Peter Luger family in Great Neck NY for giving me and my wife an AMAZING experience! I always wanted to try Peter Lugers, and the one in Brooklyn booked up quickly. The one in Great Neck had reservations available, and it was just our speed. My wife is not a fan of the big city, so the slower pace helped us enjoy the experience even more. Management, the service, and the food was superb! This is my first 5 star rating. Thank you again Peter Luger

My family & I have been coming to Petter Liger Steakhouse in GreatNeck since the early 2010s!! Every time we have family visiting the area—state. We bring them to the one in Long Island.! This one is so much better than the one in Williamsburg in my opinion. Sauce & Desert people are on their A game! Servers are comedians.

Peter Luger is a world-famous restaurant that many steakhouses have spun off from over the years. While the original restaurant is in Brooklyn, we visited the Great Neck location and had a wonderful overall experience. Peter Luger is known for their steak sauce, and aside from Wolfgang's sauce, which I like slightly better, Lugar's is the best steak sauce that I have ever had. They also have wonderful desserts. Needless to say, we all had a great time!

I had an amazing experience at Peter Luger! Their steak is on another level perfectly cooked, super flavorful, and so tender. And the Peter Luger sauce? I absolutely love it. It adds the perfect tangy sweetness to the steak and makes every bite even better. The service was great and the whole experience felt classic and authentic. Definitely a must-visit if you love a real New York steakhouse experience. I’ll definitely be coming back! ✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️

This was my first time here and I'm so glad we went. Had the steak for two and it was perfectly prepared at medium rare. The potatoes were delicious and the salad had little hearts of palm which I wasn't expecting and now I want that in all my salads. The waiters made the environment so easy going and fun. Everything was amazing.

What cab bae bad here. And this time we had a great waiter a perfect steak for two. I still believe Peter Luger's makes the best steaks I still believe Peter Luger's has the best steak. I love the dry aged and it being cooked with the butter. And I've been to all the others

M
Monsieur Le Gourmand

#DCGourmet Step back in time, when food was exquisite, menus were simple, service was about, well, service, and payment options were either cash or house credit. That’s Peter Luger’s, New York’s première steakhouse since the 1800s. This review is for the Great Neck location. Have eaten at this location at least 3 times over the past year. Very classy and accommodating. The menu is short and sweet. Pick out your steak (steak for 1, 2, 3, you get the idea) and your sides, enjoy, order dessert. This place has the best wedge salad in the US, piping hot golden fries, and excellent sides. Recommend the cream spinach, mushrooms, and the recently added to menu asparagus. There are a few cuts of steak, but I’d say the most popular would be “steak for x number of people,” which will be a T-bone/Porterhouse - which is both filet and strip steak. The beef is top quality and dry aged in house for more than 20 days. Recommend the Holy Cow Sundae for dessert, with a big helping of house made schlaag (heavy whipped cream, which also goes well on coffee.) The waiters are present, prompt, attentive and friendly. Valet parking is free - please leave a good tip. If you like great steak and service, come here. Cash, debit cards, checks and house credit accounts are the only forms of payment. Shoutout to Alex and Andrew. Welcome to the new Maître D, also an Alex, and respect the recently retired Maître D, Kevin. Had the pleasure of dining here last month as well, coincidentally on Kevin’s last night.

First time here and excited to come back. The staff get a 15/10. From the time you pull up to drop off your car to coming in to going out was amazing. I felt spoiled and it felt good! Really made the experience! Our two waiters Lentini and I apologize to the other gentleman I didn’t get his name you make the place! Thank you! We started off and throughout the meal Sparkling Water Lemon Drop Bread Tomato and onion for one House sauce and blue cheese Shrimp cocktail Crab cake French fries Potatoes Spinach Two Rib eye for one (medium and well) Cheesecake Thank you for a great dining experience! Excited to come back to try the burger 🍔

I've wanted to try a Peter Luger steak for years and was not disappointed by the experience. We went to the Great Neck location and found it was not crowded at lunchtime. We had reservations but they probably weren't necessary at least when we went. The atmosphere was exactly what I expected, old school steakhouse all the way. I had a single steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The dry aging really brings out a strong beefy flavor which is amazing. Dana had a hamburger which she enjoyed as well. We didn't have any sides but the assortment of bread was very good. Key Lime pie with fresh made whipped cream and coffee was a perfect way to finish our meal. Our server Dragan was very attentive and we enjoyed talking with him. Highly recommend this!

1- Food = 5/5. Excellent. There is a reason this place stays busy year around. Everything from beginning to end was amazing. From the shrimp cocktail, Steakhouse Bacon and the Dry aged Porterhouse was well worth the trip from Manhatten. Dirty Martinis 🍸 were made to perfection and delivered Immediately. 2- Service = 6/5 Outstanding. Despite waiting a half hour for our Table, once seated were treated to a huge table and unparalleled service from Lorik our waiter for the night. Lorik was personable and very attentive from the very start to the final bite. 3- Ambiance = 5/5. Excellent. Exactly what I expected. Old world charm feeling with a rustic look. 4- Reservations = 5/5. Excellent. I called that day and was able to book a 9pm reservation. Thanks again Luger. 5- Value = 5/5. Excellent. Despite others feeling this place is expensive we consider Luger to be a good value as far as top notch quality Steakhouses. We are suckers for quality food and amazing service, so will definitely be back and 100000% recommend This Location.

Went to Peter Luger in Great Neck today for lunch. Upon being seated they place bread, butter and Lugar sauce on the table. The onion rolls are off the hook great. Caramelized onions inside a great onion roll. Dipped in Luger sauce is the way to enjoy it ! I was in the mood for a burger and Luger’s did not disappoint. I ordered the burger medium. It was cooked perfectly. The crust was just how I like it. The thick center was a juicy delicious bite. I dressed it with Luger sauce, and a few strands of raw sweet onion. The only thing they can do to make the burger any better would be to make it bigger. I’d like to see the $ 24.90 burger hang off the bun all around :). I’ll be back the next time in the neighborhood. The burger is served with a side of fries. They are the thick cut style. They were served warm not hot and they were underdone to my liking. In all fairness I did not ask for them to be well done but I sure will next time. After the meal I was given a chocolate coin with my Bill. All in all a fair price for what you get.

We had a wonderful experience at Peter Luger! One of the most interesting parts of dining here is the service — all the servers are older gentlemen with strong personalities and a great sense of charm. If you’re celebrating a birthday, you’re in for a special surprise: a deep baritone birthday greeting that adds a memorable touch to your meal! The food was absolutely worth the price — rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The steak was phenomenal, and now we understand why it’s considered one of the best. Just a small warning: the plates are extremely hot, so don’t touch them!

We visited this restaurant for lunch during the week and had a delightful experience. We ordered the steak for two, accompanied by German potatoes and cream of spinach. The steak was cooked to perfection, with the filet side being particularly impressive. The sirloin side, while slightly chewy, had a rich flavor. The sides were equally delicious and complemented the steak beautifully. Our server, Teo, was exceptional throughout the entire meal.

Just left Peter Luger Steak House in Long Island, and once again, I was not disappointed. This was my second visit. We were served by Gail, and his attention was amazing. He makes you feel very comfortable, very respectful and professional, but also fun. When ordered cranberry juice, he joked and said, “Vodka cranberry?” Little moments like that make the experience even better. We were celebrating a birthday, but we didn’t tell anyone. When we asked for the bill, we joked about guessing the total. Normally, whoever gets closest doesn’t pay i just remember that, but because I had three glasses of Pinot Noir, I made a mistake and said the opposite. Regardless, I was ready to pay I was actually hoping to lose… just kidding 😄 While bringing the bill, Gail surprised us with a dessert and sang Happy Birthday, which was such a thoughtful gesture. The food was outstanding. The crab cakes were delicious, the steak was perfectly cooked, super tender, and the temperature was just right. The asparagus was the perfect complement. Gail is truly an asset to this restaurant and made our experience even more special.

Hands down the best steak I have had so far. We ordered the steak recommended by the waiter (the Steak for Two), and it was incredible:soft, juicy, and cooked exactly to the "medium" we asked for. The portion size is huge! My wife and I couldn't even finish 50% of it, so we packed the rest to go. We had it the next day, and it still tasted amazing. Highly recommend this location!

Kept it simple. Needed some quiet time and a good meal. The burger is amazing and sitting at the bar a real treat. When you first walk in you may feel uncomfortable but just let it slide. Its an all cash establishment but debit cards are permitted. Shane is the most gracious bartender and Alex the manager is a hoot. I recommend coming here 100%.

We had a wonderful experience at Peter Luger Steak House. The service was warm, attentive, and made us feel truly at home. This was my second time at Peter Luger and it was just as amazing as the first. The steak is unbeatable perfectly cooked and full of flavor. And their signature sauce? I seriously love it. An excellent steakhouse with steak being the reason to come here for that special occasion! We had an excellent dinner with the family. The service is impeccable serviced by a waitstaff that are both entertaining and knowledgeable! Best not order a well done steak! The ambiance on the night we were here was family friendly as a number of families were having birthday celebrations for children. This is a wonderful restaurant but remember cash only or a personal check with ID or a debit card. With just that caveat reminder, I certainly would recommend Peter Lugers Steakhouse restaurant as a fantastic place to a special culinary evening! You won't be disappointed!

Started the night off with Caesar salad accompanied by the thick bacon. What can go wrong? Nothing…delicious! Steak was cooked perfectly. Broccoli and asparagus sides were steamed and a healthy counterbalance to heavy meal. Service was nice but just a tad rough around the edges which I think is what the company is going for with only older Eastern European waiters lol Atmosphere was busy but not frenetic. We were sat in the more rowdy section.

First time trying Peter Luger Steakhouse. Reserved on the phone on a Sunday afternoon. We were welcomed by the host and were seated soon after. Our waiter was very friendly and courteous. We ordered steak for three and a rib steak. The rib steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare and were tender. All the steaks were cut into pieces and served to our plates by the waiter. The mushroom and asparagus were great as well. I wish the butter for the bread were whipped but it was good. Overall, I would return on a special occasion.

The server literally cut our steak with a spoon, and served it to us on our plates. Great flavor, still the same from when I was a kid. Can’t go wrong with simple perfection. Get the lyonnaise potatoes and the spinach. Also the best! Oh… get the coffee too! Seriously a surprisingly great cup!

Peter Luger in Great Neck absolutely lives up to its reputation! The steak is second to none — perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor. The sides are just as impressive, from the classic creamed spinach to the crispy German potatoes. The staff is professional, attentive, and makes you feel well taken care of from start to finish. The far superior Peter Luger location imo. The service here is actually good here, unlike the Brooklyn location. Our server was great, very attentive and friendly while still being professional. Creamed spinach was a 9/10 probably the best creamed spinach I've had at a restaurant. Steak was great, got it medium I think next time I'll go medium rare 8/10. Service was great. Bacon was 8/10. Spent around 350$. Lugers sauce definitely boosted the steaks score.

Came to try the burger at dinner. Also got a Cesar salad. The two of us ordered the same thing and the bill was $120! Left a $30 tip. $75 per person for a burger and salad is Insane but I did think the food was high quality and the service was good. Not sure I’ll be quick to come back at those prices but I loved it. Just very expensive.

My family friend took me for dinner here on Saturday as she has visited the one in Brooklyn & said the steaks was awesome. We have steak for 4 & it was amazing. Our waiter Mark did an awesome job in taking care of us & making great suggestions for our meal. For dessert we had caramel cone ice cream & enjoyed all the sides of cream spinach & German potatoes. The walls were decorated with nice pictures & it was very busy but moving. Definitely will be back & I hope to visit the original Al one in Brooklyn also

I am not writing this review to tell you what to do with your hard-earned money. I am going to share my thoughts and you make your own decision if you would like to try this place or not. Hands down Peter Luger is one of the best if not the best steakhouses in NYC. The steak is always cooked to perfection, and it is juicy and delicious. I love Peter Luger burgers. Also, one of the best burgers in town. The patty is so tender that it melts in your mouth. The burger is so good that it is only served with raw onions and truly does not need anything else. That is how the burger is. The French fires are made from real potatoes. However, one Peter Luger underappreciated item on the menu has to be their lobster. Not only is it price reasonable, but it is cooked perfectly on the grill. For dessert, you cannot go wrong with the apple strudel with homemade whip cream.

The bacon is honestly the best. The Rib Eye is better than the steak. The dessert is also very delicious. The atmosphere was very old school and classy. It's expensive, but it's great to impress for a date night.

First time in the Great Neck location! It's been awhile since I've been to Lugers and we ordered the sliced tomatoes with onion, thick cut bacon, crabcake, dry aged steak, German potatoes, creamed spinach, and French fries. Steak was well cooked medium rare, although it didn't come sizzling, so it was only lukewarm and was a little under salted. For dessert, we had cheesecake, key lime pie, ice cream sundae, and apple struddel, all delicious! Overall, great service, food and ideal spot for birthday dinners or special occasions!

Come for lunch, they always have availability during those hours. This place is supposedly the better one compared to Brooklyn, they're nicer with better service so I've heard. Our server was very nice. But personally, I liked everything but the steak was mid. Burger 10/10 Lamb chops 10/10 bacon 10/10 Caesar salad 10/10 mousse cake 10/10 Steak for four 7/10 - Once u had more seasoned steak, and smoked steak, you won't find this steak that great. It's okay, just a plain, expensive, steak. I would try other steak houses in the city next time.

We ordered sizzling bacon, steak for 3, French fried potatoes, and pecan pie. Sizzling bacon: I wasn't blown away but I'm more of a thin slightly crispier bacon kinda guy. It was a pretty thick piece which some crisp on the edges though. Steak: Good steak. French Fried Potatoes: 1 serving good enough to share Pecan Pie: good portion size and not too sweet.

Steak was awesome. Lamb was good but the smell a bit strong. Chicken is a miss - nothing special. Cocktail shrimps were great and of large size. Fries were ok, just a little soft. Service was great and friendly. Overall, good place for a night out.

We made a 5:45 dinner reservation on New Year Eve and upon arrival, the place was already mobbed. They have parking lot but were only running valet service that night. I love that there isn't a strict dress code also. We checked in and were sent to wait by the bar with all the others. The drinks at the bar were nice and stiff, which justified the pricing. We were called to sit around 6pm which wasn't bad considering the amount of people waiting to be seated. Our server did seem a bit in a rush to get and keep things moving but was friendly and gracious all the same. The turnaround time for the appetizers was almost immediate, and they didn't rush the main course but were very timely with it to be hot and ready when we were. Overall, the food and service maintained its reputation in my opionion. Not much of a place for children based off the menu items. ***Cash only***

Peter Luger is for Steak Lovers!!!! Seriously My Guys thoroughly enjoyed their Steaks! So, because of the rave reviews of Steak, we headed out to Great Neck to celebrate the Beasts Birthday 🎉 I made reservations for 6:45, got there in time, had a tiny-but of a wait, which I didn't mind EXCEPT for the obnoxiously Loud Cursing Patron at the Bar who seemed to forget his manners and that he was in a family type establishment! The waiting area was filled with families, Women, young ladies and like 3 children.... I couldn't help but to say something to the Maitre'D. Either way we were seated in a nice corner. Our Waiter Walter was VERY ATTENTIVE and was quick with EVERYTHING. From water, apps, meals.. we were moving and shaking in this joint! I'm usually one who takes pictures of meals, experiences & venues... But not today!😜 I'm lucky I got two in! Our apps were the shrimp cocktail (tasty) and bacon slice (the guys liked)., Steak was devoured, The non steak eaters had salmon and fillet of Sole... A sizable portion, but nothing to rave over in regards to flavor, but the price was ridiculous. Our sides were French fries, baked potato & creamed spinach. Deserts: ice cream, cheesecake & the infamous 'holy cow'.… It's was okay... The Schlag' was SUPER CREAMY and Tasty tho. Well the night went on, they sang Happy Birthday and well we paid our bill and left. As I mentioned, I personally do not eat steak, but the few restaurants we've visited in the past is say Peter Luger is a tad bit pricey. If they Guys want a Peter Luger night again, there's no need for me...lol I'm sure they'll enjoy their dinner and their night.

I came here with my boyfriend for lunch on a weekday. The place was pretty empty so we were able to walk in without a reservation. The interior decor feels very traditional and old world American. It's fairly quiet inside and the waitstaff are dressed in suits. We ordered the steak for two with a side of bacon and creamed spinach. You are served complimentwrt breads with butter after you order. The breads were mediocre and the butter was your standard wrapped single serve butter you might find at a diner. The bacon is a plate of two thick slices of bacon which were pretty good but the creamed spinach was nothing special. The steak for two was the highlight of our meal and smelled heavenly when it came out. The servers even served us our first pieces of steak and we real enjoyed it. We ordered the steak medium rare but I felt it came out a little more on the raw side, which I didn't personally mind. At the end of the meal, the servers bring you golden chocolate coins bearing the Peter Luger's logo with the check. Overall, a very traditional American steakhouse experience with mediocre sides and delicious steak. Peter Luger's is on the pricier end, all things considered.

After a 2 year hiatus, I recently returned to Peter Luger's Long Island location. The steak for three was okay for the most part – though a slightly burt. The first time we went the flavor was much better. We also decided to try their jumbo crab cake, just out of curiosity, but it wasn't particularly memorable.

We started off on a good note with free valet parking, which was a nice touch. Though we had a 7:15 reservation, we waited about 30 minutes in a packed lounge area with limited seating. Service was excellent! Our waiter, Peter, was fantastic and very attentive. We ordered the rib steak, which was decent, but honestly didn’t live up to the hype or the high price tag. Sides like the creamy spinach and French fried potatoes were just okay. The highlight of the meal was definitely dessert! The sundae was outstanding, one of the best I’ve had! The little chocolate coin at the end was a sweet finish. The ambiance was fine, though quite loud, probably not ideal for a quiet, intimate dinner. Overall, it was an okay experience, but personally, I don’t think it’s worth the premium price.

We were having a wonderful night until we were leaving. The manager came over to our table twice and asked how our dinner was. By the second time I can tell he did not care and we just looking for the table. On our way out he looked at me and said don’t be late next time. He took me by surprise and I find it hard to believe that he even remembered. I was coming from New Jersey. My GPS told me it should take one hour and 20 minutes so I gave myself one hour and 30 minutes but the ride ended up being one hour and 45 minutes. Not my fault. If not for the other couple we were meeting who were more important than the food, I would’ve turned around. I thought the manager was unprofessional especially not knowing the facts. You go to Peter Luger‘s for the steak. The steak was very good but not exceptional. It will be a while before my wife and I return.

I really wanted to like this place as it's one of my bucket list places to eat at. However I found our steak to be lacking in flavour. There was salt and pepper on the table but were we expected to season our own steaks? For the price we at least expected seasoned steaks. They also served it with a side of steak sauce which tasted like ketchup. The service was however really good and the steaks looked like they were good quality just not seasoned properly which was a shame. This place is famous so they probably don't read reviews anymore but that was an unfortunate experience and I don't think I can recommend coming back.

We had to wait about at least 20+ minutes if not more to get our table for a 8:45 reservation. We were seated with no menus. After a while someone at the table had to flag down a server to ask for menus. It took our server about 10-15 minutes to come to our table. There’s not a lot of options when it comes to sides like other steakhouses. Two porterhouses were ordere , both medium well. But one of the porterhouse steak came out medium rear. It had to be sent back to cook longer. Tasting was just ok…nothing great. Drinks was alright. I would say that the place was packed and maybe we just went on an off night.

L

Ribeye steak for two dec 2022 Only the first two pieces that waiter put in your plate meet just the standard of steakhouses at this price range. Other pieces were either over or undercooked, also contained big portions of pure fat and unchewable tissue parts that should be trimmed. Overall the steak was not cooked consistently, and very greasy. The bacon was good and tasty. I went around 4pm on a weekday and the restaurant wasn’t too busy so the service was pretty fast. But the waiter never checked on our table and asked how we liked our steak or if we needed anything else. If you want good steak, this is definitely not the place. If you want old school atmosphere, this is the place.

I cannot think of a more underwhelming steakhouse on LI. Making a reservation is futile; you end up waiting 15+ mins to be seated. The service is abysmal. No manners from the waiters. They just throw your food onto the table. You have to order as they’re walking away from you. The steak was so underwhelming, you could have better steak from TGI Fridays. The bacon was good but that was mainly because of the steak sauce. It’s also 2025 and women can also be servers. One and done experience.

C
Crystal Hu

Everything is lower than my expectations. The steak is very oily, it’s just like pour a ladle of hot oil on it, maybe it’s the way they do it , but I just don’t like it. I only ate 2 pieces. The outward appearance of the dishes are pretty simple, they don’t put any decoration. It makes me lost my appetite for the mushrooms dish. The last thing I didn’t expect was they use the cheap pepper instead of the whole pepper.

Fourth and last time I will be visiting PL. my first two experiences were great (Brooklyn and Great neck) the last two have been disappointing. The food is not the same, quality and execution is not at PL’s years 2018 or 2019. Another negative is that they do not accept any foreign credit or debits cards, so they made me go to the atm in the rain to withdraw cash today at the Great neck location. Plus after I withdrew I left a tip that apparently was high enough and the employee at the door had to scream it embarrassing me.

I called to make reservations for a friend's birthday dinner on Saturday night. The person on the line was great and also said they'd give us a dessert on the house for my friends birthday. We arrived on time and waited a couple of minutes by the bar till we were seated. We ordered the thick sizzling bacon, steak for 3, lamb chops, onion rings, holy cow hot fudge sundae, and carrot cake to share. The sizzling bacon and lamb chops were the stars of the show. We ordered our steak medium rare but more on the rare side. We ended up getting a steak that was more medium/medium well with some parts well done. The steak had a nice char to it but it wasn't tender or juicy which we attributed to it being over cooked. Definitely not acceptable for a Michelin rated steakhouse. The lamb was cooked a perfect medium rare and didn't have a gamey taste. The onion rings weren't seasoned and had no taste - a hard pass on these. Dessert wise the holy cow fudge sundae was standard and the carrot cake was your traditional carrot cake sans the cream cheese frosting. We ended up getting charged for one of the desserts despite being told it would be on the house - not a big deal. We ended up paying around $420 for 3 people. The service and staff were great, but the steak was really disappointing as it wasn't cooked to the right temperature.

R
Regret

Food was good, but for what it costs, I expected more. Service was the real letdown. Only one bartender behind the bar, seemed very rushed and barely paying attention, and when three of us asked to split the dinner bill at the front, the hostess was surprisingly rude and dismissive. That ending completely soured the night and made it clear why so many people complain about the service at Peter Luger. Splitting a check should’ve taken an extra 15 seconds, but the attitude made it feel like we were asking for something unreasonable.

I had reservations on 12/31 and the restaurant was beyond packed. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving after waiting over an hour to be seated, even with reservations. There was no where to sit, the lounge was way too crowded and it’s also the exit/entrance to the kitchen so you had the servers running in and out with hot plates excusing themselves every 2-3 mins. The entrance of the restaurant was also extremely crowded and there was just nowhere to stand/sit, as this entrance is also right by the bathrooms that people were coming in and out of. The staff seemed to be doing the best they could to accommodate people, but I think they overbooked. I wish they would’ve at least gave the option to wait in the car in peace while waiting and maybe receive a text or alert somehow. I’m sure it’s very difficult to do, as you’re required to valet your car due to the limited parking in the area. I’m trying to cut the restaurant a bit of slack because it was New Years Eve, but I honestly didn’t think I would be waiting over an hour with reservations and left pretty disappointed. I might just stay local and go to Tellers next time. The food/staff is wonderful and I’ve never had an experience like that, even on New Years Eve. I’m sure the food/staff is wonderful here too, but I’d stay away on holidays. It’s not worth the stress. Very bad first impression/experience.

Fallen off a cliff. Was a time when it was special. Not worth getting into but when you eventually put a ribeye on the menu and it was good you cannot sell garbage with zero fat basically a lean New York strip. Then to be told by the waiter that you need to request the normal but for a ribeye that’s game over. Will never go back anyone who is still claiming they are serving proper food is delusional or doesn’t know steak dry age and keep a secret it doesn’t matter if you cannot cook it to the proper temperature.

Wife and I had what was supposed to be a special dinner at Peter Luger’s in Great Neck, but it ended up being a disappointing and concerning experience. The steak we were served had a strange growth in it. I flagged down a manager, who casually dismissed it as "just cartilage." We later found out it was a tumor. I have attempted to contact the restaurant twice, but received no response. They have made no effort to address the situation or take accountability in any meaningful way. For a place that prides itself on its quality and history, this kind of oversight is unacceptable. Eat here at your own risk.

I recently came here for lunch with my family. The service and food were excellent, and our server was very attentive and professional. This was my second visit, and overall, the dining experience was great. However, I had forgotten that the restaurant only accepts cash, debit, or check. In today’s world, it’s uncommon to carry that much cash for a meal, and I was surprised there was no reminder during the online reservation process. When I asked about payment options, I was met with a surprisingly rude response. The staff member said, “I am not joking,” in a tone that felt unnecessarily harsh and dismissive. While everything else about the visit was enjoyable, that final interaction left a negative impression. It’s unfortunate, because it overshadowed an otherwise great experience and has made me never wanting to return in the future.

Title: Worst Dining Experience Ever at Peter Luger – Shocked by the Service and Possible Discrimination I’ve been to the Peter Luger in Great Neck several times over the years, and sadly, this last visit on October 2, 2025 (around 12:00 PM) was the worst dining experience I have ever had anywhere. From the very beginning, things felt off. Once again, our group was placed in a small, isolated corner table — something that has happened every single time we’ve come. It’s hard not to wonder if this repeated treatment has anything to do with the fact that we are Asian guests. It certainly felt that way. Then came the shocker: while serving, the waiter dropped the steak directly on the table, picked it up with no hesitation, and placed it back on my plate as if nothing had happened. No apology, no replacement, no acknowledgment of how unacceptable that is — both from a sanitary and professional standpoint. The same waiter was rude, dismissive, and visibly irritated throughout the meal. Plates were literally thrown onto the table, and there was zero sense of hospitality or respect. I’ve dined all over the world — from casual diners to Michelin restaurants — and I have never experienced this level of disrespect and disregard for basic service standards. This isn’t just bad service; it’s a total breakdown of decency and professionalism. I left feeling not only disappointed but deeply insulted. It’s disgraceful for a restaurant with such a long-standing reputation to treat guests this way. I sincerely hope the management investigates this matter seriously and retrains their staff. For now, I would strongly caution others before spending their hard-earned money here. The name “Peter Luger” means nothing if this is the kind of experience they allow to happen.

Wanted to experience I came to Peter Luger Steak House to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. As a brown Asian male, I noticed clear differences in how I was treated compared to other guests. Staff were noticeably more polite and attentive to certain other customers, especially white couples, while my table received rushed and dismissive service. During the birthday song, a staff member tossed the chocolate coin onto me instead of handing it respectfully, which felt disrespectful and humiliating. This is not the type of treatment anyone should receive at a restaurant with this reputation. I rarely write reviews, but no one should feel singled out or uncomfortable when they’re simply trying to enjoy a meal. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses how guests are treated so this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Reserving went awful. My fiance tried to make a reservation and two different staff pretended to not hear him and hung up on him MULTIPLE times a few seconds into the call 😆 We switched phones to try calling and they continued to hang up on him. Finally, I took over to ask why they are hanging up, and all of a sudden they can hear me. Must be getting paid a lot to be comfortable in ruining people’s day, good for you guys! 💅 👑

Way to ruin an evening!! We drove over an hour to celebrate my son's birthday. It is one his favorites. We arrived on time for our 6:15 reservation. Valet and front lobby seemed really busy, but we figured it's a Saturday night. Time passed and different size parties arrived..2,4,6,8 and even 10, who seemed to know the host. There would be alot of hugging , greeting and catching up...and then they would be sat before everyone else who was waiting. After 30 min I checked in again , there is a man who takes names and another who does seating, they said they had to check with each other and said 4 minutes. More people arrived and got ushered to the back to be sat..again "How are you doing? How's the family? Lots of backslaps." After 45 min I checked again and this time they said shortly. I felt that if they didn't know you, you were not sat. I almost felt looked down upon which is not how you should feel considering the money we were about to spend. After over an hour we told the host we were leaving, he couldn't care less, no apology, no explanation- we just wanted to make sure that our card would not be charged. Never ever again-- there are lot of other steakhouses. Peter Luger- Do better! Would give 0 stars!
