MUY BIEN 🧒 I love a burger and I love a fry and I love a good table. Thus I am in LOVE with Hungry Bear cafe. Butter me up and call me a crabeater seal because I am loaded tight and bulging with a full belly. This was a delicious meal. Very happy with my experience and hope to come back in a few years. THANKS 🥶
Fantastic little gem we happened to stumble on. Great coffee and food. There isn't anything specifically vegan on the menu but the staff was more than happy to modify ingredients to set menu choices to accommodate us. Staff was really warm and inviting. Too bad we were just stopping by...
Coffees in the afternoon were great. We found this little restaurant on the day we were leaving, shame really because we definitely would have been back for dinner.
Food was a amazing a bit salty on the fries but it was delicious. The team was positive and gave exceptional service.
We stopped for breakfast, and this place didn't disappoint! The breakfasts were great - particularly the potatoes. If I had a criticism (and I do), they have a lot of coffee drinks but no decaf... That was a bit of a surprise and a disappointment. I mean, how expensive can it be to keep a bag of decaf beans? So, as long as you're not looking for decaf coffee, it's definitely worth the visit.
Incredible milkshakes & friendly staff! Clean, air conditioned indoor dining area was a perfect break from the heat. My husband loved his burger and fries. Will definitely be returning the next time we’re in Groveland.
Awesome food, ambience & service! Loved the cafe...Food was awesome, served by the cutie young stuff at the front desk..The coffee n the milkshakes were awesome too..A cool resting place for the drive ahead & from Yosemite..
It’s really really good! Don’t miss their hamburgers and fries!!! The best we’ve ever tried!!! The lady at the front was very friendly and the service was excellent!
Had a really great experience even with all these negative reviews. The lady at the front was very nice (even though a bunch of Karen’s were yelling at her about not wanting their change bc it was “90 cents of useless crap”. We got the pesto sandwich with Cajun fries and was really good as well as the veggie burrito filled with fresh warm veggies!! I would stop in again and tell people a great place for breakfast or lunch!
Great food and great service. Will be visiting again when I'm in the area.
We stopped by at Hungry Bear and we were two real hungry bears😊 I must say burgers were delicious. Service was top notch . Service Lady was extremely kind to fix our order and offer us extra French Fries too. We ll absolutely come back whenever we are around. Many thanks ❤️❤️🙏

There was one woman working New Years Day Morning and she did an absolutely amazing job serving and preparing food for each group of guest that came in. French toast, biscuit and sausage gravy, and avocado toast was all exceptional.
Best biscuits and gravy I had in California. It seems like no one knows how to make decent biscuits and gravy meal nowadays but this plate really did go beyond my expectations. Loved the quality taste of the sausage and the topped green onions was a pleasant surprise. Good portions. Fresh tasting ingredients. Friendly staff, Service is a little slow but the wait is definitely worth it!
The food was fire, the service was great. It did take time for the food to arrive since we ordered soo much. Food tasted amazing and was fresher than the snow in Yosemite this Christmas.
We had a nice dinner at the Hungry Bear Cafe. It’s a friendly, small local joint with a small but solid menu. The hamburgers tasted good and the service was great. The waitress noticed that I wasn’t eating the fries (trying to be healthy….sad for me) and offered to make me a small salad. This isn’t fine dining but they do a good job of being a cute local restaurant.
This is a great cafe! We were greeted by a lovely toddler and then by the hostess/chef/chief bottle washer! Very friendly and accommodating! I ordered the vegetarian omelet with ham added. The best ever! Husband french toast that was yummy! Food was hot! Really enjoyed this cafe!
Delicious food. Made fresh. You can taste it. The 1/2 lb burger is delicious and very big. Worth the price. Although the price is a little high its reasonable due to the location, far off. The people are really nice and welcoming. Accommodating too. Would definitely come here again for a simple meal as their menu is small. The milkshake was really delicious BTW

We came in after 11am and wanted breakfast and the kitchen made us breakfast!! Service with a smile. Thanks Hungry Bear🐻🐻🐻🐻
Nice staff Big portions Nice crunchy fries Clean area. Bathroom and parking provided No kids menu
I had the chicken pesto sandwich and a chocolate milk shake. The milk shake was $8 and 24oz and was delicious. The flavors on the sandwich were fantastic. I do wish the chicken breast was larger, 40% of the sandwich did not have chicken and was bread/veggies. I sat on the back patio over the market and enjoyed some people watching. If there was one area they could improve it is the cleanliness of the balcony. I don't think those chairs have ever been cleaned.
On our way out of Yosemite we stopped here for a quick brunch. We had ordered pancake, omelettes and chicken wrap. The food tasted good. The pancake was large 3 layer blueberry one. The zesty chicken wrap was large and tasty. We took the seat in the patio behind the diner. The tables had shade, so it wasn't very hot due to the sun. They didn't have any fresh juice in the menu. Would have been great if they had some.
Menu is kind of small I would highly recommend the pumpkin pie milk shake it's fantastic
A hidden diamond right off the mountain! Ate with a group of 10 and we were blown away at the quality of the food. We enjoyed sitting under the stars. Food was cooked well with incredible flavor. Great portion sizes. Wonderful menu. Hope to stop here in the years to come!!

Food was good. Wait was reasonable. You order at the counter. It happened to be loud (milk shakes) when I ordered and they got my order wrong (2 items, no special order). Tables were dirty and not stocked with napkins, condiments, etc. (no condiments come with meal). No effort made to clean them even while we were there even though not overly busy. Service was... Serviceable.
My husband and I ate here twice during our stay in Groveland, and both time we were either the only customers or one other customer was dining. (We ate here in the evening and afternoon.) The food and drinks here are good, but the food came out so slow. Both times dining, the food took 20+ minutes to come out. Even if everything is made fresh, that just seems like an excessive amount of time.
What an interesting experience! I will go with it's a small town and covid had some effects. They were short staffed (1 lady serving and cooking), they were out of things like toast, decaf coffee, and more. They absolutely don't do substitutions as I was told so pointedly. The poor lady was obviously having a tough day and her tone and interacting showed it. The eggs were cooked too fast and really greasy, but the pancakes were puffy and perfect. However the fruit topping had a bit to be desired with the small tough blueberries (not in the pancake like the menu said), and old frozen strawberries. They did look lovely though. Not sure I would go again unless need be.
We stopped there after Yosemite. We ordered two burgers, a grilled cheese, and fish and chips. You order at the counter pick your drinks at the counter and pay for your food. There is a tip jar at the counter as well. The burgers, grilled cheese were good. The fish and chips came out as chicken tenders. They corrected the mistake but the pollack was still cold in the center so back to the fryer for some well done fish. We would go back for drinks but probably try a different restaurant for more options besides short order food. Bathroom was clean.

No breakfast after 11 am, which I find strange since this area is full of people camping on vacation getting up late, and unfortunate because I was looking forward to it. Ordered a chicken sandwich and an Oreo milkshake, got my order wrong and had chicken tenders and fries that were yummy but only 4 tenders and the full order cost me about $30. Not worth it. Went back the next day before 11 am to give it another try, they no longer serve pancakes and the wait was beyond 30 minutes so I decided to leave.
Serves a niche, but can't figure out how to make consistently good food, and Service is lousy. One day you'll get 8 mozza stix on an order, the next day 6. One day you get great onion rings, the next time they are burnt. One day perfect chicken burgers, the next day they will lose your order...and it shows up half an hour later cold and completely wrong. You can tell them three times that you want chicken strips, in person, and they try to ring up a hamburger. They say 15 minutes on a to-go order of 3 appetizers while you are waiting...and 25 minutes later, with no one even in the place, you ask about your order and they say, "It's coming out now... " After a year of this, one wonders, how do they stay afloat? BTW, a Chicken Ceasar Salad has more than 3 pieces of Chicken, guys. Go learn how to run a place.
Ordered zesty chicken wrap, fries, and lava cake. Chicken wrap came looking like a thick burrito that was not held well together, ended up just opening the tortilla and eating it like a salad. Black beans, corn, greens, chicken, sauce, etc everything tasted fresh. Lava cake came without ice cream due to machine being down and was extremely rich! Took a couple bites to get used to the strong flavor. Hot coco was mediocre, made with water but was warm and topped with whip cream. Ice from the foundation drink station made my soda taste like lake water. Staff was very welcoming and kind. Probably wouldn’t come back for lunch/dinner time but want to try their breakfast. Call ahead!! Sometimes they close early and stop serving breakfast early as well. Pricy for okay meal... Locals warn to eat elsewhere but I wanted to try for myself.
Ordering online was convenient and straightforward. However, my husband noted that the service could have been more welcoming when he picked up the order. While the portion sizes left much to be desired, the food itself was quite delicious. Regrettably, we found that it did not justify the price we paid. For our meal, we ordered the Breakfast Burrito, The Chicken Fried Steak, and Kyle's Biscuit Breakfast. Unfortunately, we would not recommend, or be repeat customers.

We came here at 3pm to order lunch, so the restaraunt was completely empty. We ordered hamburgers and it took around 30 minutes to get our food. The hamburgers were all overcooked with one being especially burnt around the edges. Not to mention that everything is expensive for what it is.

I don't like to be so extreme, but only a hungry bear would come back here. The salad had a lot of sand and there was something bitter in it. The burger was burned and came without ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard (take out). So no chance to cover the taste of burned meat. It was also not a 1/2 pounder. Hungry Bear...now I get it. $26
If we could give a half star for service it would be more appropriate. Ordered 18.00 cheeseburger and it came with a 10 inch hair hanging out of it. When brought to the attention of service hostess girl, she took the hair said "yuck" dropped it on the floor and stepped on it. A scene worthy of a goofy movie. Never offered to bring a new one, or an apology. If you are on a diet then its your place to eat.
Mediocre food at best. Elderly woman behind the counter was short and rude to my wife when she placed an order and had to barely ask a simple question. The burgers, pancakes, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausages and fries were cold, not how we asked to be cooked and not tasty at all. Obviously not many choices out here in Groveland but if you are out here then you're better off going anywhere else to eat.
We went to the Hungry Bear Cafe this evening and ordered 2 pesto chicken sandwiches around 6:30. After about 45 minutes of not getting our food, I went to check on it. The employee told me that they had made our order, but someone else had grabbed it when they put it on the counter for us. Our buzzer to alert us when our food was ready never went off, so this explanation didn’t make sense. I asked if we could have a refund to make up for our very long wait. At this point, my parents, who had ordered one minute before we did, were already finished with their food. The employee called his manager and she walked him through how to refund us. I explained to him we still wanted our food. He said if they had already started making it, we could still have it. I guess he never communicated this to the lady cooking, because I went up about 5 minutes later to double check with him and he said that yes, it was already on the grill so we’d get it. But when 20 additional minutes passed and we still hadn’t gotten our food, I went and checked once again. The lady cooking came out and said she’d never heard of someone getting a refund and still wanting their food, so she wasn’t making them. They called the manager and she said if we wanted to pay again they could start making the food. Where we’re from in the Midwest, it’s extremely common to comp someone’s order when the service has been this slow or bad. Two of the employees did seem to be trying to help, but we heard three different stories about why we didn’t have our food yet, so it appeared they were lying to cover their bad service and disorganization. I guess we now know why they’re called the Hungry Bear Cafe. An appropriate motto for this company would be “come hungry, leave hungry”.
Overly expensive cafe for not that great food. Paid a hefty amount for a single slice and not even tasty and very oily avocado toast. Staff was ok and service was quick. We went early morning like 9 on a weekday perhaps that’s why too.
I have never experienced such poor customer service ever. The male owner/ server was extremely rude & very arrogant. Unbelievable! I wished I had walked out before paying but I think I was so shocked at being treated that way when I was supporting his business. Definitely a place to avoid as very overpriced for quality and quantity of portions & shocking service. The avocado toast was $12.95 other breakfast $15. Wouldn't have bothered about the price if the guys attitude was different.
This can not even be called a food. We were here 4 years ago and food was mediocre. Today July 25, 2023 we made mistake to stop by here again as we stay at PML. Why da h.ll this place stay in business? Is it because they are located on Hwy 120 they don't care what they serve, as they think they never see same people again? I ordered BBQ burger, for my kid chicken nuggets w fries, and wife chicken fettuccine, all to go for $50+. I made mistake not opening the boxes before they put 3 boxes in a beg. 10 min later when we get to a lake and open our food we were horrifed. Fettuccine somewhat did resembled a food, but two other dishes was something from horror movie. Fries was something not even resembling made from potatoes, and probebly made 2-3 days prior on super old oil. Same goes for chicken nuggets (food for kids!!!) and my burger . The cook need to be fired on the spot for this and owner need to be fined for serving this thing, that can not be called food. Health inspectors from county need to visit this place for sure! My strong suggestion, stay far away from this place. Next door pizza place w good food, go there.

After quickly evacuating from the Groveland Hotel's elementary school lunch room breakfast offerings, we wanted an actual hot breakfast before venturing in to Yosemite NP. It was a Wednesday and little else was open in Groveland. We noticed the telltale odor of burning marijuana upon entering. Hmm? Stood at the counter and waited for someone to appear. Heard voices in the back? Just as we were about to leave, a young man came out front and greeted us. I ordered scramble eggs, bacon and hash browns. My wife wanted a breakfast sandwich on sourdough bread. For coffee, you must serve your self - if the canisters are full. In this case, no. So we were told to find a seat - place was completely empty. Young man came to our table after a few minutes telling us we could get coffee now and if my wife still wanted her breakfast sandwich on sourdough, the "chef" would have to go to the grocery store since they had only 1 slice of sourdough bread left? (Can't make this up.) She said to make the sandwich with white bread. After 15 minutes out comes the food. Wife's sandwich was made on sourdough bread(??). My scrambled eggs came out in a pool of melted butter and were slightly gray. (See photo.) Instead of scrambling eggs, "chef" let eggs cook into one large patty and then chopped them up. (Not to mention that when the "chef" delivered our food, that distinctive burnt marijuana smell hit us like a left cross.) My wife said her sandwich was OK. I finished my hash browns (more like diced fried potatoes), bacon and 1 bite of my egg pieces. I left the egg disaster on my plate. By tilting the plate side to side the egg pieces slid across in the pool of melted margarine like tiny rafts. It would have been hilarious if not for being gut-wrenching nauseating. Glad we left zero tip and left our unfinished plates, utensils, and used napkins for the staff to clear. We did try and get a 2nd cup of coffee while eating. Empty coffee canisters, again, and no one in site. Upon leaving, we saw a sign on the front door - "Help Wanted." Ironic.
Food was decent, but the whole experience was disappointing. We had to wait, serve ourselves, and even pick up our own food — despite paying in advance. My omelette was missing the avocado it was supposed to come with, and we had to pour our own coffee. Everything came with plastic utensils, which made it feel cheap. Tried to enjoy it, but the service setup really took away from the meal. Also, noticed several couples and families experiencing long wait times. No one had food on their table. Took around 45 minutes to get our breakfast. 😔 No toast with meal. OVER PRICED FOR BREAKFAST.
