The best place Iv been in a long time. The staff were so attentive & the food was incredible. A very friendly place & so refreshing to go somewhere that doesn’t restrict where you can sit with dogs ! Not only that- the dogs are spoilt with their own menu! Amazing- highly recommend - we loved it.
It is a traditional pub with a pleasant view over the village park. The pub also has a lovely terrace, where you can enjoy a delicious meal at a reasonable price. The menu is a perfect mix of classic and modern dishes, typical of British pubs. Convenient with the parking space in front of the pub, very helpful person, many thanks, I will be back. Best regards to you all. #B4YOUDISCOVERY
I have been to the Red Lion on several occasions since it was taken over and it has never disappointed. The menu is excellent and the food is just delicious! I recently went with my 5 year old for lunch and found a cosy corner in the garden. The service was outstanding, and the food, perfect. My daughter claimed this to be ‘the best meal she’s ever had’ and I would have to agree, the steak kebabs and fish and chips, heavenly!! Thank you for always being so kind and welcoming especially with tiny people. Highlight of our week!
Great welcome from the team. Good food all exceptionally well cooked .A great tartiflette was shared as a starter. We liked the beef bourginion , the pork belly stir fry and the vegetarian pie for mains. Sticky toffee pudding to die for and a lovely pear and apple crumble with custard. Although there wasnt quite enough custard for the large portion of crumble we asked for some extra and were given it with a smile. Excellent.
A glorious Sunday traditional English roast. We had the chicken supreme. Amazing service and a fantastic outdoor heated ambient. Dog friendly, Tobi loved it too. I hear they are advertising job vacancies, I would imagine this is a wonderful place to work. Come and enjoy these lovely autumn days. And no- they are not sponsoring this review. (I hope you found my silk scarf) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Had a lovely birthday lunch at the Red Lion. My husband loved the chicken roast, said it was the best roast he's had in a long time. I had the fish and chips which were equally great. My 12 year old son said it was his favourite restaurant experience which was also due to the slim young waiter who was very friendly and entertaining. The waiter even performed magic!
Lovely little pub in a lovely little area! Came across this pub on a bike ride, had some chips and a beer, so can’t comment to much on what the offering is, but they have a good selection of beers and some great pub handles, which I loved. They served Neck Oil so I was happy, and the chips were very good for chips, cut in a way that made them lovely and fluffy and crispy. Sadly I ate them so quickly I never got a pic. There was a cricket match going on just across the road which was nice to watch while having our pints. On to the next place…
Popped in for lunch today and was well looked after, planned a light lunch but the menu looked that good ended up having 3 courses! Was lovely to meet Sean & his beautiful dog Summer as well, my dog was very well looked after with lots of attention from all the team! Highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area (and it’s worth the trip if you’re not!)
I come here every week whilst my daughter attends school locally. The food is incredible, the staff cannot do enough for you and are really welcoming. I can highly recommend any of the homemade soups or the chicken pie (see photo), the crumble is also divine and not too sweet. It is well worth a drive out to find it and I promise once you have you will be back!
This used to be a regular place to go to until we moved to Devon 7 years ago. We now love back in the area and decided to have lunch there today as the food was always top notch. It was absolutely amazing, from staff meeting you at the door to take you to your table, to the very tasty food they have to offer ( The cranberry and white chocolate cheesecake was delicious 😋!) Roast beef was cooked to perfection as was the roast chicken that my wife had. They also offer some Gluten Free options too. We look forward to visiting again soon. Thanks so much
We went there for a Sunday lunch and it was worth the journey. Charlie is a great host, his smile greats you before him and he really knows how to make you feel comfortable. The same passion is shared with the team, attentive and calm. The food is exceptional, tasty, super tasty (and I'm a massive lover of Sunday Roast). We had the Yakitori pork belly bites (incredibly yummy), halloumi fries, broccoli and courgette fritters, bread and smoked butter. We all decided to go for the Sunday roast and here comes the challenge! The meat was perfectly cooked and juicy, homemade (huge) Yorkshire pudding, crispy roasted potatoes, trimmings and the gravy was the final touch. I never had a gravy that tasted so good so far! We finished with the crumble and sticky toffee pudding. Wines are at a very reasonable price, we were surrounded by regulars (the table behind has ordered the pan fried sea bass and the fillet was looking amazing and huge again) and they were all enthusiastic, we felt our Sunday had a purpose!
We came to visit this Sunday and enjoyed one of the best roast dinners we have had, although there are plenty of other food options available too. The location is picturesque overlooking the cricket pitch, plenty of outside seating with an attractive garden at the back, very amiable staff in a lovely pub atmosphere. We will most definitely be revisiting and can highly recommend.
We had such a lovely evening at The Red Lion! The staff were incredibly thoughtful and had reserved both an indoor and outdoor table for us, as we weren’t sure what the weather would be like — such a kind gesture that made us feel really welcomed. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed, and everyone in our group loved their food. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. From the warm service to the excellent food, The Red Lion got everything just right. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Such a lovely pub- all tye staff are friendly and accomodating and the food is delicious. A great place to relax with a pint or get some really lovely pub food. I would recommend!
A fantastic welcome only duped by how amazing the food has been on this current visit. Cous cous squash salad my favourite with the chicken croquettes a very close second. PLEASE SUPPORT THESE GUYS…. as their effort is second to none! 👍👍👍👍
I stared going here a few months back. The best pub I’ve ever been to. The food is amazing especially Margaret’s puddings. The staff are amazing, especially Josh. I highly recommend it. It’s a chilled environment and very welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble
Five of us had dinner here and we all loved the food. My chicken and leek pie was fabulous. The two lads who looked after us were friendly, informative and happy to help. There was a comedy night at the other end of the pub but it didn't disturb us at all. Will definitely go back.
The roasts here are top notch, it’s our go to venue when we want a properly good roast. Beef, pork, chicken and lamb have all been had and enjoyed over multiple visits. Meat is high quality and perfectly cooked, Yorkshire’s are massive and perfectly done, great portion sizes and lovely crispy roast tatties. It’s on the premium end price-wise but well worth it. Dog friendly, welcoming and attentive staff, cosy and they have lots of games to keep kids (and big kids) entertained Oh and the puddings are consistently excellent if you have the room!
Went to this wonderful pub for Sunday lunch. Service is excellent. Staff are efficient friendly and knowledgeable. We had the roast pork and roast beef lunches. Both were delicious. They come accompanied by an enormous Yorkshire pudding and bottomless gravy and roast root vegetables. Thoroughly recommend.
Even though we turned up with no reservation on a fully booked Sunday lunchtime they made the effort to fit us in when it would have been completely fair to turn us away. Staff were really efficient and friendly and the food was fantastic. Will be going back again despite living a good 2 hours away.
Great country pub, the service was 5/5, all the staff members went the extra mile to make our visit pleasant and the food was delicious - highly recommend visiting! A hidden gem located in a beautiful area.
Fantastic pub Sunday lunch. 3 courses all brilliant - good restaurant standard starters (torched mackerel and goats cheese sorbet), great roasts with decent portions of meat, massive Yorkshires and bottomless veggies. Followed by the sort of puds that mean you need to be wheelbarrowed out of the pub. All topped off with great service. Recommending this place to friends. It really is worth a visit
Food is gorgeous, staff are brilliant. For a first time there me and my family enjoyed it loads, will be going back more often. Manager found us a table even though it was busy and we didnt book! Kid friendly aswel and reasonably priced menu.
Perfect summer afternoon in the garden. Enjoyed a late roast lunch which even at 4pm was still great and not dry. Thank you very attentive service and compliments to the chef.
Came for a late lunch after delightful but strenuous walk from Holmwood. Enjoyed the slow cooked pork belly which came excellent cracking and washed down with some local ale. My only suggestion would be the addition of some cabbage or other greens to go with the pork.
Absolutely delicious food and not the sort of thing you done in just any old pub.
Came here for a family meal and were really impressed by the food, surroundings and staff. One of the best pub meals we’ve had for a very long time. A special thanks to the waiter with the Santa hat who showed our children a few amazing magic tricks- you were brilliant! We will be back.
Delicious Sunday lunch, very friendly and efficient staff. We took my elderly parents and staff were extremely helpful.
Myself and my partner were lucky enough to stumble across this gem and land ourselves a last minute cancellation for Sunday lunch! The food was outstanding and very fairly priced given the quality! Full of flavour and plenty of it! The bottomless veg, potatoes and Gravy were a stunning little touch! The staff were so friendly! I was even treated to a little bit of birthday magic from our waiter. Great food, great staff, great service! 10/10, would recommend!
A great place , very friendly staff and top notch food , make sure you reserve a table though as it's very popular .
For a traditional country pub serving well prepared & presented pub style food, you cannot go wrong with this location. Visited many times & never disappointed, thank you Red Lion team.
Just had a family meal everyone was really happy with the whole experience, the food and service was brilliant. Highly recommended it definitely worth trying.
We used to visit often before Covid when Debbie was landlady & was disappointed when she left. Visited before Christmas & was very impressed & came again yesterday. We were warmly welcomed by the very happy & friendly staff & we enjoyed some good banter. Very well kept local ales & my guests & I thoroughly enjoyed our meals which were very tasty, beautifully presented & generous in the portion size. The menu is well thought out to cater for all tastes along with daily specials. The pub ambience is lovely with great outdoor spaces to relax in. The Red Lion is definitely back on track & we'll visit again more often
Great food. Decent beer. Reasonable service but having to go inside to order food not perfect. The pub was under new management and very quiet for a Friday evening but worth using or it will close.
Lovely time. It was my first time and i loved it so much. Special thanks to the people around, positive attitude and really humble staff. A big shout out to Arthur, amazing service by him.
Had the Sunday roast ,best roast, amazing Yorkshire pudding and very generous portions.
Great service, specially Beth, she was friendly and patient with all our orders. The menu is way different than before. Great pork bites and halloumi burger. Lots of new games to spend time with friends while having a drink. We will back (:
Lovely meal in the Red Lion which is a picture postcard pub just in the Guildford area. It has an open fire which is always well received and warm and attentive service. The food was very pleasant and there were a couple of vegan/vegetarian options on the menu although there could be more. It’s overpriced but busy so clearly the local clientele have deep pockets. Parking is easy right at the door and there’s step free access inside. Toilets are clean although a little chilly! All in all a lovely visit but definitely couldn’t afford to visit too often!
Great pub, with excellent food. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Both my wife and my main courses were superb as was the starter we shared. Both my daughter's did not enjoy their sausages - they were dry, a little overcooked and bland. But the ice-cream for dessert was a BIG hit. Very much recommend!
Firstly, no lions on site, for better or for worse only you can decide. I went for the roast, it was very well cooked with my only issue being the portion size was a touch small compared to some others. The soup of the day was great, no idea what flavour it was but maybe just ask the staff if they have the red one while you're there.
Four of us went for a roast dinner as had heard good reports. For £24 I certainly expected to get a hearty beef roast dinner! Certainly the beef & yorky was the best part of the meal. However, accompanied by two hard roast potatoes, one sliced roast carrot & parsnip and a dessert spoon size portion of cabbage I was very disappointed. Why skimp on vegetable portions when it could be their chance to shine?!
Good food but couldn’t order dessert as it was different as advertised (have a heart condition). Could have been more generous with the gravy which came in a tiny jug.
Spent two evenings having dinner here & on both occasions the food has been very enjoyable! Staff very friendly. But I am still trying to understand how it is acceptable to have dogs in the restaurant, we were enjoying our meal when the table next to us arrived with not one but two dogs, these dogs had obviously been in the rain at some stage & the smell of wet dog hair was very unpleasant, I can see that dogs are almost taking over things & being put before us humans! I have nothing against dogs but I would certainly never take mine to a venue were people are eating. I can also see that the odd dog on leash would sit with it's owner in the public bar but definitely not in a restaurant! When I spoke to a member of staff they informed me that it was generally up to the manager & as long as the dogs were quiet they couldn't see a problem. Sorry but not everyone puts dogs before humans, since when has it been ok to allow them in restaurants? It will start to smell very dogy in there soon!!
Peach crumble. ½ teaspoon on soft 'crumble' hidden under some almond flakes designed to disguise the absence of amaretti and/or amaretto because the sauce tasted of cherry. The comment from the maître d' was "yeah that's what it is" and "well you've licked the plate clean" which was met with "no I haven't, look" and should have been met with a proper telling off. Not sure what the spoon (not scoop) of clotted cream was, but it was bland and not clotted cream. £8. It was nice, but a lie compared to the menu which I'd quote only they haven't updated it online in a few months (the time the maître d' said this dish had been served. I'd avoid the deserts and won't be racing back. £18 for a beetroot quiche albeit a decently sized portion and very nice isn't value for money. Beetroot isn't meat and there wasn't much room for any other expensive ingredients. Cold tap loose on the gents toilet. I'm not sure how you keep a toilet clean without noticing it spin round and round. The older lady behind the bar and the young waitress were fantastic. Great place for a pint.
