Opinions de Wild Carrot Restaurant Hook
Wild Carrot at Four Seasons Hampshire truly surprised me. Just an hour’s drive from London, you feel transported to the peaceful countryside as you arrive at the beautiful, historic estate. The setting is elegant and serene, but step into the restaurant and it comes alive - vibrant, atmospheric, and with an open view of the chefs at work, clearly mastering their craft. The service was flawless: incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. We began with the seafood platter - lobster, grilled prawns, Loch Duart salmon, and seabass along with four oysters that were wonderfully fresh. The lobster and prawns absolutely stole the show. For dessert, the chocolate fondant and lemon tart were both spectacular. It happened to be my girlfriend’s 30th birthday, and the team went above and beyond- offering complimentary English sparkling wine, a birthday plate with petit fours, and even singing to her. It was such a thoughtful touch that made the evening truly memorable. The bar staff, too, were warm and welcoming, and the décor throughout was tasteful and refined. I would highly recommend Wild Carrot - it’s absolutely worth the journey. Next time, I hope to enjoy it during the day to take in the full countryside views. One day, staying at the Four Seasons itself would be a dream (though for now, a little out of my budget!). An exceptional experience from start to finish - we’ll certainly be back.
Went here for lunch as there were few restaurants around. Indeed it was a great choice from all aspects and the decor as well as atmosphere were amazing. The food was so delicious we ordered the Cocktail Prawn, Truffle Penne Pasta, and Chicken Milanese. Highly recommended and will definitely visit again.
A fantastic Sunday roast buffet. Cannot fault any element of the roast. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. Great service too, they were very good at clearing our plates and topping our glasses up with water. Can't wait to go back!
The staff has good attention to detail. The food was good. Menu choices are limited but I saw people ordering off the menu. Cocktail execution was great (delivered very specific requests on point). Wine menu options could be bigger. Overall good restaurant - aim for later dinners with less kids
It was our first time in Wild Carrot and I must say Prathana spoiled us sooo much! She was amazing and her food suggestions was so delicious. We went on a Tuesday afternoon which was so nice and quiet. Definitely recommend Hazelnut Choux in deserts and pork chops in Mains. Thank you again to Prathana and the rest of the team for make this such a memorable anniversary💖 will definitely come back very soon💖💖
LOVED every meal we had here. The staff were very polite, great conversationalist and paid great attention to our allergies and dietary restrictions. And yes they are halal!!
The new restaurant is well worth a visit. Beautiful setting and great location for views of the grounds. New interior design is modern with a Gatsby feel to it. Food is pretty special and the tables facing the open restaurant make for a different dining experience. Will be again for sure!
Great food for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and an incredible countryside view.
This place is absolutely phenomenal. Between 3 courses, myself and my dad and stepmum had 8 different dishes and every single one was outstanding. It isn't cheap, but it is definitely worth what you pay.
Dined here last week and we couldn't fault anything. The rib-eye with Bearnaise was wonderful and vacherin for desert was deliciously sweet. The prices are what you might expect for 'the four seasons' but with limited fine dining the local area the quality certainly seems worth it. Great setting for a special night too.
We went for a retirement party for which we weren't paying, so I can't review comprehensively. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, the staff were all very professional and it's a lovely spacious restaurant. It was surprisingly noisy, but I guess that speaks of popularity as much as anything.
21.11.24 Two people, three courses, one bottle of wine and one bottle of water. £304.75 This great value for the quality of location, food and service.
Relaxed lunch today with children - excellent service by Fillipa, she was so accommodating and attentive to everyone's needs. Always such a good experience at 4S.
What a great restaurant! The steak was delicious! The people were so kind and professional.
Returned to Wild Carrot after 6 months yesterday. Wow! What a change. Absolutely wonderful. Super food and service .On the expensive side but...really worth it. No wonder it was busy.
Great food, friendly and attentive staff, lacking ambience unfortunately but we could blame COVID. Partially compensated by views of Dogmersfield Park if you can get a table by the window.
A lovely restaurant. Food was really nice and decor and views were stunning.
Super nice service, ultra good food quality. Will come again for sure.

Truly amazing.
We had breakfast at the Wild Carrot today. It was absolutely delicious in a buzzy restaurant with excellent service. The waiter was charming and super helpful.
Outstanding food quality. Chef must be from another planet, amazing restaurant. Duck breast is out of this world. Always magical atmosphere. Many small zones in restaurant and bar area. We love to start with a cocktail at the bar, move to the restaurant table 30 min later, and then go back to the cosy sofas for a desert.
Sometimes you just have to go for it. Expensive.. But worth everything about this amazing Hotel. A weekend you'll never forget. Everyone made you feel relaxed and for 48 hours were treated like millionaire's. Loved the gardens. Horse riding indoor pool and relaxing private spa and massage. Massage on your own or with your partner or friend. Champagne 🍾 was flowing. All inclusive in your weekend package. Attention to detail is faultless. Go on. If your not Rich. Save up and feel Rich for a weekend or midweek stay.. Thank you all for helping me celebrate my Cancer free officially after 5 years.. What an amazing way to end a frightening journey. 🫣 xx
I came here last night with my partner for our 20th anniversary and we had a lovely time. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxed - with the sun setting over the valley through the window beside us, and our server Sarah couldn't have been more gracious a host, even suggesting we make the most of the sunset by offering to take our photo. Wonderful experience - we're looking forward to coming back and trying the new Italian restaurant next to the Wild Carrot.
Food was lovely and service was silver spoon....as expected really. It would have been a 5 star if they seated us near the bar (as requested when i booked) as they had live jazz and there seemed to be free tables. The hotel looks lovely and has an adventure ground for the kids.
We went on Sunday when they do the Hampshire Farmers Market Buffet, an amazing buffet with fantastic products (the oysters were fantastic!), very good service too. A bit expensive, but definitely worth a visit. The Wild Carrot can be visited just for a drink or aperitif as there is an area bar and on Friday night you can enjoy live music.
Came for the roast dinner with friends, ended up spending three hours in the lovely restaurant, I had the beef and could not fault at it at all. Great friendly service, As you would expect from a hotel of this standard, thank you.
This is our yearly Anniversary treat, not always making it back but when we do we are always very happy with the service provided. We always look forward to Sunday lunch as the selection is par 1
Change the music staff very attentive food ok.
Lovely setting and good food!
Delicious food. Great staff.
Great
TL;DR - Probably good for events; quite fine if your company pays the bill. Too expensive for regular dining, given portion and selection. Food was alright, however portions were far from generous. Service was generally good, but some items (like sauces) were forgotten. Atmosphere is probably how they justify the cost - and it was nice.
We visited for a meal to celebrate my birthday. Jack looked after us and was exceptional - knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Food delicious but we felt rather overpriced. We could have had a meal at a Michelin starred restaurant in London for the price. Ambience could have been better. We were surprised by the number of children in the restaurant late into the evening. This impacted our enjoyment. Thanks to Jack and the team, but sadly we will think again before returning.
Lovely surroundings, attentive staff, sadly my food disappointing given the premium prices, but other's dinners somewhat more successful. Party of five, steaks tasty, venison good but pastry in Wellington not well cooked, I somehow managed to get 3 things which had pine nuts in. I love a pine nut, but they were rather ubiquitous. Burrata to start with flavour overwhelmed by pine nuts and additional £7 for optional two strips of anchovy bewildering and maybe predictably unnecessary. There's a good reason we routinely pair mozzarella with sweet juicy tomatoes and basil. Jus with pork belly over reduced, with raisins and more pine nuts and mustard seeds adding slightly odd flavours. There were so many mustard seeds and sauce so reduced it looked like brown tapioca. Pistachio and lemon ganache dessert very pretty but overly sweet and textures too similar...and more pine nuts in middle. I was hoping for a nice zingy tart lemon layer to counteract the pistachio ganache but it was sadly lacking. I understand there is a new executive chef and the menu is under development, it was our first visit and we probably wouldn't rush back, at almost £100 a head it just wasn't quite good enough.
Food is ok but completely over priced.
Was very good atmosphere. We had to preorder our menu. The first waiter checked our order and went off then a second came and suggested we had some sides which we agreed to. However the sides arrived after we had eaten the mains ! We wrongly assumed when they suggested them it would have come with the mains . This spoilt the whole meal. Also sitting looking at cobwebs was a bit off putting
I have mixed feelings of this restaurant. Set at the Four Seasons, the estate was amazing. The weather was nice when we went and the grounds looked beautiful. The restaurant was a little hard to find, door staff kind of were nice but also stand offish, but strange We booked a Sunday buffet lunch for 1230, the buffet started at 1230 and we were5 minutes early, the hostess was a bit cold and just told us that the table wasn't ready and we waited at the bar. 1240 and we were still sitting at the bar when the couple that arrived after us were shown their table before us. I had to ask a waitress if our table was ready Food was good. nice selection, well cooked. Everyone in our group was appreciative of the setting and the buffet. The waiting staff were nice, friendly, but for some reason wasn't at our table much. I asked several times for our water Tobe topped up. Had to catch their attention for a drinks order etc Not sure if it was the table we sat on, but the staff seemed to look after every other table apart from ours. For example, it's a buffet, but plates were left on our table without being cleared pretty much for the whole meal. While the staff cleared tables which have just left We waited and chased for the bill, and then waited and chased for the card machine I have visited many Four Season establishments and the service and attentiveness I expect was not apparent Maybe just an off day, maybe short staffed but overall the grounds were nice but lunch was a bit meh. Definitely could do better
A bit of a curate's egg. The Four Seasons Hampshire hotel, which the restaurant is within, has exceptional service. It is a lovely building in beautiful grounds. Wild Carrot isn't quite at the same level, particularly when its price point is taken into consideration. The issue is consistency. Some of the dishes are excellent and some of the staff are wonderfully friendly and attentive. Our waiter was great. However some dishes are not at the standard you would expect for the price and attention to detail is missing in elements of the service. Note that they follow the un-British practice of adding a 15% service charge to the bill, but still adding a blank gratuity line for you to fill in at the end.
Lovely restaurant, staff and outlook. 14 of us there and everyone liked their meal except me! My roast beef meal was almost cold and I have never seen such fatty beef before. The roast potatoes weren't good and the parsnips were very sweet and broccoli rather hard. Better to have had, say, green beans and peas. I left more than half of the meal. Have no idea what the meal cost as 2 of the men split the bill.
We visited on a Sunday night at the end of May for our wedding anniversary. We turned up for our 7.45pm booking to find the restaurant to be completely overrun with children, and many tables filled with old plates which hadn't be cleared away from a hotel buffet which people kept also milling around for. We were seated near some open doors, which children kept running in and out of, with parents having no decency to try and control their children to let other diners enjoy their experience. In fact I think we may have been the only group in there with no children. As we have two young children at home we did not want to be around this for our special dinner, so we asked if we could move but there was literally nowhere in the restaurant that you could escape the kids. So at this point we were moved to the bar. We were sat right next to the cash register in a very awkward spot which again we weren't happy with so moved to the corner of the bar on a stained sofa. We were then surrounded by a large family group playing charades loudly but obviously this is not the fault of the restaurant and of course people are allowed to have fun but this was not the type of fine dining experience we had expected when booking this meal. Drinks very pricey too, £20 for an average fruity cocktail, I've had nicer cocktails in a can from Tesco. There was also some misunderstandings with our waiter who noted down a couple of things in our order wrong and also had little knowledge of what mocktails were. The food was mediocre at best and incredibly expensive for the portion sizes. Small portions are not out of the ordinary for this kind of dining, but you would at least expect a great taste. The best part of mine was the starter, smoked aubergine. The lamb shoulder tasted extremely salty. The fillet was decent, medium but slightly charred on the outside for my taste but still nice. The desserts were awful. The Caribbean chocolate was extremely basic and the cocoa nibs it came with were literally disgusting and I was happy to get home and brush my teeth to get the taste out of my mouth! The pink grapefruit and white chocolate dessert did not really taste of anything at all. The bill came to over £250 - we are happy to pay this sort of price for great food and a great experience. Not mediocre food, poor service and bad experience on what should have been a special night. When we wanted to reduce the £35 service charge (we changed this to £15 - still generous for the treatment we had had), and voiced our complaints to the restaurant manager, he seemed to imply that we should have let them know in advance if we wanted a quiet table (we did specify it was an anniversary on the online booking - no mention of this by the restaurant whereas most places give a special touch). I don't see why a customer would have expected to have been sat in the middle of what felt like a children's buffet/play area/Harvester type set up when coming to a 5* hotel restaurant, and be told we should have told them in advance we wanted to be sat somewhere else? Even after voicing our complaints the restaurant manager didn't take anything off the bill (would have been a nice touch but the cost of the meal was secondary to the rubbish experience), and barely apologised and just said he'd raise what we'd said with the hotel management. I am not one to ever really leave a review but I would highly discourage anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion from coming here for their evening meal, unless you like feeling like you're dining in the middle of a pre-school.
