Went for lunch on Monday and was blown away with how good it was. Had the £30 taco sharer (including beers) and it was fabulous. Not a local, visiting from London for work but when I’m back in Guildford I’ll be going again for sure.
The other reviews were not wrong! Love this place, the food and the staff were great! We had tonnes on food plus drinks for our party of six and the bill was really reasonable! Everything was great but the Al pastor, beef brisket and prawn cerviche were amazing! Shout out to the Churros as well.. they were delicious!
Popped in on New Years Eve as my son loves Mexican. This is genuinely the most delicious Mexican I have ever tasted, beautifully presented, really friendly helpful staff. The price for 4 of us, including 2 ravenous teenage boys was really reasonable. I am genuinely so happy we tried here, we will be back!
We’ve had several meals in here and they have all been great. The food is all fresh, tasty and very different from mainstream Mexican chain-type food. It’s an independent restaurant and the team working in there are always very friendly. It’s a lively, fun, fairly small restaurant - great to go with a group of friends. (It always seems to busy so we book beforehand). Enjoy!
I’d heard good things about this place, and finally managed to get a table. Food was put together and the waiter was happy to make some good recommendations. The nachos (which we had to start) sound like a cliche but certainly were not your normal bog standard chain restaurant type and it was so nice to see the owner cooking (in an open kitchen) next to you. I will definitely be revisiting - lovely, Guildford needs more independents like this.
Been here two nights in a row and had a brilliant experience both times! Food is amazing - great quality and all cooked fresh in an open kitchen so you can see the care that goes in. Very authentic dishes, excited to a very high standard. Al Pastor and Fish tacos a highlight, along with the empanadas. Staff are lovely and friendly. Couldn’t find a fault! Def note our fave restaurant in Guildford!
I have to say, this is some of the best food I think I’ve ever consumed!! My friend and I came here last night and almost didn’t speak most of our dinner due to how speechless we were about the food and drinks!! I got the spicy margarita & my friend got the pineapple mojito which both were 10/10 We then shared the nachos and chicken empanadas and couldn’t stop audibly gasping at how delicious these were. For mains my friend got the chill o & prawn soft tacos (I had to have a bit obviously) and I had the cod loin & pico gallo soft tacos and both were just outstanding. We also both had a side of corn on the cob with cheese, this was both our favourite thing of the entire visit. Never have I ever eaten corn so yummy!! We then had a slice of tres leche for desert. I was nervous at first as soon as many places get this traditional dish wrong however if it was following suit of the rest of the meal I just knew it was going to be good. Guess what? It was unbelieveable. Staff were so friendly, the atmosphere was great and the restaurant was full! Not a single spare seat in the house which is lovely to see! My friend & I agreed this was going to be our new favourite food place and I cannot wait to come back and try more from the menu!
This place never fails to deliver quality at all levels. Their food is stunning and very very reasonably priced. The sharing taco platter with two drinks was £30 and was plenty enough for 2 people. The service was rapid and attentive but not overbearing. The whole place is really vibrant and well decorated. This is by far my favourite place in Guildford.
Me and 4 other came for some lunch whilst exploring the area, the welcoming from opening the door was warm, great music not too loud and the decor is brilliant. Prices are more than fair and the portion sizes are spot on, and the flavour or everything, phenomenal. Could not recommend more for proper mexican food at a good price.
My husband and I visited for lunch yesterday and we were blown away. A lovely family run restaurant. Good atmosphere and super clean. Everything made fresh in front of you. The Empanadas Tinga were incredible, so tasty and fresh. We then shared a quesadilla and prawn tostadas. All delicious and not too heavy. Drinks were lovely too. Great value and highly recommend, we will be back!
I normally review restaurants Gordos is more of a Mexican street food cafe than fine dining but it is good. I mean lip smacking good. Fantastic authentic Mexican food in a friendly noisy atmosphere with totally scrumptious food wine and cocktails. The staff are happy to explain the menu and offer suggestions just be a bit cautious of some of the on table sauces they certainly let you know they can kick
We had an amazing time at Gordo’s Guildford! A truly authentic restaurant — every single dish was fantastic. The tacos sharing platter was a highlight, full of flavour and perfect for trying a bit of everything. The tacos al pastor were top-notch, and the empanadas are an absolute must. The Margaritas were delicious, and their spicy sauce has officially become my favourite. Can’t recommend it enough!
One of the best and most authentic Mexican meals I've had in the UK. This ticked every single box and had a lot of items that I struggle to find elsewhere; Dos Equis lager, cochinita pibil, ceviche (only on Saturday's) and Tres Leches cake too! My excitement and enjoyment of this place was through the roof and will 100% be coming back for more!
Delicious food, fun and uplifting atmosphere.. absolutely fabulous hot sauces and really lovely staff. While the food was really yummy it was the staff that really made this experience great for a solo lunch diner. Friendly without being imposing, quick and efficient.. 100% recommend Gordo’s for an authentic Mexican experience! And the hot sauce selection really deserves a mention hot enough to be super fun but still full of so much flavour .. couldn’t really pick a favourite as they were all so delicious. Really enjoyed it thank you
I have been to Gordos twice and I love it. The strawberry margaritas are delicious and the food has been great both times. If you like meat to be the star of the dish for the tacos 🤤. Even the free warm tacos at the start are delicious.
Me and some friends had dinner here last night and everything was fantastic! Great service from the moment we got in including excellent recommendations for food. Really great tequila cocktails - Try the Michellada and the Strawberry marg Food was so tasty & Fresh - Al Pastor Tacos and Bean and cheese quesadilla were stand out for me but everything was great. Can't wait to get back soon & have already recommended to all of my friends!
Best Mexican food I’ve had by far. Service can be a little slow, but they are very busy. We only spent a lot cause we had the platter for 2 plus an extra set of tacos each plus starters and beers and cocktails
Great, authentic food and atmosphere. Best Mexican food I’ve had in the UK and attentive service. Wheelchair friendly too despite the small footprint. Definitely book to avoid being disappointed!
Delicious food and margaritas, especially liked the fish tacos. Would love to see some new veggie tacos on the menu and some sides so we could have Mexican rice or some chips & guac. Also loved the decor but maybe dimmer lighting would have been good for atmosphere :)
Great food, great drinks, the staff are all lovely and the place has a great vibe. Really excited to have somewhere like this in town and will definitely be back very soon. Cannot recommend more!
I came here twice recently, once for breakfast and two days later for dinner. Once the whole it was great. I'd give four stars and five stars respectively. The positives were the dinner pretty flawless. Everything down to the guac was fresh and homemade and the flavours coming through on the tacos were excellent. When it came to brekkie, the actual meal and coffee were great and authentic Mexican but it was slightly spoiled by the naff toast as a side. I'd recommend buying some decent bread! Aside from that, excellent.
The food was super tasty and felt very authentic. Tacos are well with it, as the flavour and size is like a party in your mouth. Highly recommend trying out this place. Will definitely be back. Oh and they are dog friendly!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gordo’s Guildford is an authentic restaurant and every single dish was fantastic! The chimichangas and tacos al pastor were the stars of the night — absolutely delicious. The empanadas are a must-try too. Amazing flavours and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!
A black bean and three-cheese quesadilla is, of course, the grandest of toasted cheese sandwiches elevated to main event. If this is all too much softness, have a chimichanga: a crisp, golden, deep-fried tortilla wrap, filled with any of the above proteins, then dolloped with cheese and guacamole, sour cream and chilli.
Great customer service, the owner and staff are so lovely. The chimichangas were amazing as well as the prawn starter. I would definitely recommend
What a great experience at Gordo's Restaurant! The food was absolutely exceptional with wonderful notes of Mexican heritage & care for flavour The Team work together so we'll in-motion while guests feel they are arriving at a friend's house rather a Restaurant 10/10 Great food 🙏
Definitely the best quesadilla I’ve ever had. I just wanted to snack for lunch and it was tasty full of flavour seasoned well and just absolutely yummy would recommend 100%
Loved this place - brilliant food, fun atmosphere, great service. The tacos sharing board was delicious, as were the vegetable empanadas. Thanks for a fantastic evening!
Awesome food. Very authentic. Loved it. Suggestions for improvement: too loud for my taste, too hot/smelly (improve air extraction/cooling).
I love this place so much! Moved here from Texas and this place honestly feels like home. Great quality, amazing service, and lots of options. Highly recommend.
If tacos could talk, these ones would be singing mariachi in celebration! The taco shareboard was absolutely awesome, packed with flavour, properly authentic, and beautifully presented. The venue is stunning too, with a lively atmosphere and décor that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into a fiesta. Sadly, the service didn’t quite join the party. Our server seemed like he’d rather be anywhere else, maybe even on the beach eating the tacos himself. It didn’t spoil the meal, but it did make things a bit awkward. Overall, amazing food and a brilliant spot, just bring a smile next time and it’ll be perfect. I’d still go back for those tacos in a heartbeat.
It was my first time trying Mexican food and I absolutely loved it here! 🌮✨ The atmosphere was really cozy and welcoming. The only downside was that we were seated near the kitchen door, which wasn’t the best spot. The service could be a little smoother too. But overall, great experience.
Lovely presentation of the food, clearly prepared with love. I didn't find the dish as flavourful as I expected but the variety of chilli sauces on the table fixed that. The passionfruit cocktail I had was yummy. Decent prices. Will visit again, if only for the variety of tequila cocktails on the menu!
Really exceptional Mexican food, maybe the best I’ve had. Sensational prawn empanadas. Great place to go for a casual meal and drinks with friends. Service was okay, a bit inattentive but there seemed to be an issue with a burst pipe so that may have been why. Prices aren’t cheap but it’s Guildford and I trust pricing appropriate for the restaurant to survive in this awful climate of high bills and tax from the government.
As a Mexican, I can say that this restaurant captures the authentic flavour of traditional Mexican food such as tacos al pastor and cochinita pibil. They also serve pozole which is not well known in the UK but appreciated back home (vegetarian friendly). However, I will say that the portions are kind of small for the price of the food - I ordered the "sharing" taco board and the size of the tacos is smaller than the palm of my hand! Which makes it hard to assemble a proper taco with a mix of toppings. The black beans should also be blended more and fried longer so they are not as watery.
Actually very decent Mexican food in the UK, finally! The tacos are legit as is the quesadilla. The nachos are pretty good, as are the chilaquiles, although both could benefit from better distribution of topping to tortilla chip. Really enjoyed the veggie enchiladas too, very authentic. The service is a sadly a bit subpar but they’re also extremely busy so could be a function of that.
Portions look small but were very filling, grilled chicken felt abit plain. Food was definitely delicious and wouldve rated 5 stars if it had a better atmosphere, maybe some live music is needed or better music played? Service was slightly lacking as we had to wait a while to be served and to receive our bill at the end. Everything was slightly pricy on the menu nothing under £10 our bill came up to nearly £50 for 3 dishes (one of them being a childs portion) and one drink. But the experience was overall lovely. Thank you.
I think this is a cozy spot to meet friends in the evenings; we've only been there for lunch. Both of our main dishes were quite bland and lacked seasoning. I would also suggest that if you have an open kitchen, try to minimize the visibility of food that isn't freshly prepared but rather reheated or fried (though I hope they at least prep it in the morning). A Chipotle wrap could easily rival the food here, so we won't be returning - this is more fast food than a proper restaurant.
Great Mexican food and nice cocktails. I got Strawberry Margarita and was amazing. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Tacos need more dressing!
First of all, as a Mexican living in UK for over a year I am really glad that there is a Mexican restaurant in Guildford. But there is still a lot of work to do. I came here to have lunch with an english friend and when I approached to the door to ask if the restaurant was opened (I asked in spanish because I thought the guy on the door was mexican) I got as response what I perceived as a very rude yes. I mean, clearly the guy understood what I was asking, why to behave like that with your own people? We got some tortilla chips and salsa free samples which were really good. Then we ordered tacos al pastor, a quesadilla and jamaica and tamarindo drinks. Tacos were just fine, authentic but not exceptionally good, drinks were very good and authentic but the quesadilla was disgusting. This is not a quesadilla. I do understand you have to adapt the food to the UK market but then don’t call it quesadilla and claim that you are an “authentic” restaurant. Apart from the guy on the entry the rest of the staff was friendly and that’s why I am rating with 3 stars and not 1.
I have been anticipating the opening of Gordo's as I've really been missing authentic Mexican food since moving to the area. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite hot the spot. I ordered the Cochinita Pibil (braised pork). The good: The service was excellent. They welcomed me with a free shot and were very friendly and attentive. The soft corn tortilla shells that came with the tacos were the best I've had in the UK. The tortilla chips were served warm, came with 3 salsas and guacamole, and were included with the meal. The food was hot and came very quickly. The bad: I love salty food, but the guacamole was so salty it was nearly inedible without mixing it with some salsa. It was either whipped or blended rather than being chunky like authentic guac. To be honest, it seemed like Sainsbury's guac with a bit of coriander and a ton of salt added to it. I'm not sure why they wouldn't make their own guacamole fresh in house. That being said, it was free so... The salsas were flavorful but totally missing the acidity they need to taste really great. And I'm not shy of spice but the meal overall was just too hot. That may have been my own fault for putting salsa on my tacos. I believe I saw another customer send his food back because it was too spicy. Possibly the red pepper served on the tacos. The real reason for the low review was the the pork. If you do one thing right with a taco, it should be the filling. While it did taste nice, the pork had so much fat and gristle, I couldn't eat half of it. It seemed a bit under cooked or like it needed to be fried like carnitas. It wasn't pleasant to eat as I checked several times to make sure it was cooked thoroughly. I will go back in a few weeks time as it is opening day, but overall, I was pretty disappointed in the food. Hopefully they can make a few changes and be very successful because they seem just almost have it right.
Such a shame - went a while ago and fantastic. It was awful. Saturday night, food was cold, terrible service and the restaurant was empty by 9pm. Our friends were polite but dont think they'll be going back either
