Opinions de The Barn Half Moon Bay
We had a great experience with the food and the overall atmosphere here. Kids loved it too!
I have wanted to go here for a few years and I am so glad I did. The food was delicious. I got the gluten free bun with the burger. It was very tasty. It gave a Hallmark meets beach barn vibe
Had the cluck burger fries and a beer. All very good. Cluck burger was so big I had to split it and take the other half home for lunch the next day. The service was cell service and the atmosphere was rustic.
I go here every time I'm done a hike in Pacifica. It's a great little hamburger spot. They also have a beer garden with local brews. It's burgers what do you want me to tell you? They're good! come eat them!
The best burgers we had in along time. Great location and the good food compensate for the long line. Lots of place to sit. Don't miss!
Some of the best fries I’ve ever had. Tasty burgers, salads, lemonade, and milkshakes. Definitely try their sriracha aioli.
We go here pretty often and it’s one of our favorite places! Great burgers and really great people!
This place is top notch, my only complaint is the burgers are too big. I wish they had a 1/4lb option. I would come here a lot more if the burgers weren’t so huge.
I had the Pretender veggie burger tonight. Fries are delicious and Mac attach is a MUST TRY.
Had a fantastic burger and IPA. Service was quick and there were a couple of outside seating options, including blankets to keep cozy.
Amazing local restaurant! A little pricey but it’s worth it because the quality of the food is very nice! Great place to dine outside if you’re visiting the coast on a nice day! Very nice staff as well
Best burgers. And their service is fast and everything is really fresh!
We both had a breakfast Burrito then headed to the beach.
This place has delicious food, lots of space outside for kids to run around, and lots of parking. You do have to order at the counter but it's worth it.
Line was long although we didn’t wait long for our food. Very delicious and fresh!
Barn is back being our favorite place on the coast. Love that they use local ingredients. Their homemade cheese is incredible. There’s not a single bad item on the menu.
Great burgers and fries! The Mint Chocolate Chip shake was awesome. Outdoor seating was comfy with the heaters running. A bit on the expensive side @ $20 each.
A little pricey but worth it. The fried chicken sandwich is to kill for.
Best place to stop for a bite or a drink. My family loved the laid back atmosphere - nice, enclosed area for dining where the kids could play lawn games and we could keep a close eye on them while we enjoyed some great food and a beer. The fried mac n cheese was so good! Great burgers and sandwiches, too. Will definitely be going back!
Family and dog friendly place with outdoor seating, beautiful garden and friendly staff. Ordered french toast for breakfast which was just the right size and coffee was delicious.
The Pretender is the best veggie burger I have ever had. It hits every time. Great local establishment!
Burger was super tasty ... I had father spicy one ... affrigato shake was *chefs kiss Fries were perfectly cooked but all little pieces which is not my favorite but super tasty and crispy Will definitely come back and have another go . Next time I want that crispy chicken sandwich!!!!
The spicy burger and mac and cheese bites were AMAZING. f Fries were cold-ish but still crispy, so not mad but would've loved them fresh and Hot. My friend loved her vanilla milkshake. Overall satisfied esp with all 3 of our burgers!
We have eaten at this place a couple of times now and we are always satisfied with the food. We have tried the pretender, what the cluck and the hot farmer burgers, which are all pretty good but my personal favorite is the pretender as it has a unique patty with great flavors. The affogato milkshake tastes good too. The place has a rustic farmhouse feel to it.
Had a good first experience here! Menu is pretty simple but for the quality is good for the price! Outdoor area is well put together with nice seating and permanent fire pit installations. Looking forward to returning.
The food was absolutely delicious, I got a burger and a mint chocolate chip shake. It was probably the best burger I’ve ever had. The service was alright, there were no waiters so you’d have to get it yourself, and to me that’s my preferred way to order food. The atmosphere was wonderful, it really fit the name and was a great experience. I give it a five out of five, the food was perfect, the service was alright, and the atmosphere was great. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Delicious food. The veggie burger was yummy as described on Check Please. We tried a few small plates too like the chili and potatoes and everything was great.
this restaurant has quickly become our favorite place to stop and eat while visiting HMB! the atmosphere is so lovely, the staff is always friendly, and the food is to die for!! the food is incredibly high quality. everything tastes so exceedingly fresh and well balanced. we tried the tomato bisque, which was the soup of the day, and it was truly one of the best tomato soups both of us have ever had! their french fries are also unmatched, some of the best! personally i’m not even a vegetarian, but i tried the veggie burger and now it’s one of my favorite things to get! not to mention all of the beautiful fresh cut wildflowers and homey rustic touches around the seating area. HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area! it’s a much more relaxing & enjoyable experience than fighting the crowds downtown!
Large portion of fries was great Coleslaw could use more sauce I think. Sandwiches were good. Got the burger and chicken sandwich. Lots of outdoor seating.
LOVED the food here! Everything was so flavorful and fresh (contrary to previous reviews) — I had the ‘What the Cluck’ chicken sandwich which was the staff recommendation and it was fantastic + my brother had the ‘Hot Farmer’ burger and he said it was one of the best (if not the best) he has ever had. The chili was also great and fries were simple but good. The prices are expensive, but typical for this area. Wait times can also get quite long depending on the time you come, but the food is honestly worth it. There is also loads of seating (all outdoors), and it’s a great place for any size parties or children. Would recommend — the perfect lunch spot!
The entire crew and ambience was amazing! Really enjoyed sitting right next to the barn and then also in the garden by the fire pit once a little bit of a chill came on with the fog! Beautiful surroundings and incredible firm to table cuisine.
Roadside burgers and sandwiches with plenty of parking and outdoor seating. Hald the menu was vegan friendly which my wife loved. We will be back.
Vibes were great. We went early so parking was not an issue. There is a small dedicated parking lot, otherwise may have to find parking. Menu price can be $$. Food was great. Outdoor seating was clean.
Some of the best food I’ve had in a while. I wasn’t sure what to expect from a place serving food out of a barn, but I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken sandwich was incredible, and so was the burger. And don’t even get me started on the fried mac n cheese bites. The only downside is that ALL of their seating is outside. I went on a cold day, and wasn’t prepared for the weather. Definitely bring a jacket if you’re unsure if you’ll be warm enough to eat outside. That said, the outdoor dining spaces are pretty nice. This place is definitely worth going out of your way for.
Burgers were delicious! Mac and cheese bites were giant and good, not greasy at all with the perfect amount of crispy breading but need more cheese or flavor.
Great burgers. Outside seating with the heat lamps, made it for a great experience. The Hot Farmer, a burger with good heat and lots of flavor.
The food was great for a solid price. A great place to enjoy a burger in the sunshine. ☀️
It was our first time going to The Barn located right off 1 Freeway in Half Moon Bay and everything about it was above and beyond! We went as soon as they opened on a Wednesday morning, and they were already swarming with people. Despite parties filling in, it did not take very long for us to get our food. The food tasted great and they provided extra sauces like ketchup, mustard and hot sauces. The vibe was very nice, we went on a nice warm day so it the experience made it great. Everything about the seating area was very cozy, felt like having a picnic. It was also very clean! On top of all that, the staff was friendly with us and attentive. Will be going again once we make another trip to Half Moon Bay. We don't live near so unfortunately we can't have it as often as we'd like to, but I think it makes the place more special. Highly recommend!

This place is great. Tasty food. Chill outdoor seating with heat lamps for cold evenings. Family friendly. We've been twice for the Fri night line dancing and had a great time. Even our 7-year-old got their boot scootin' boogie on.
Terrific friendly, comfortable restaurant with always great food. Everything we've eaten here was wonderful. It is all outdoors eating at Half Moon Bay, and The Barn has become our go-to place. Their original take on a vegetable burger is our favorite, and their fries and onion strings are beyond greatness. Cheerful staff. Good beers. Couldn't be better.

Service was good. “What the cluck” chicken sandwich wasn’t that good. But burger was FIRE. Renovating so some machines were down.
Food is tasty but a little expensive for what it is. The mac attack and burgers are true stars. Wanted to like the shakes but for the cost and how liquid-y / non-shake like they serve them its hard to justify. Love the outdoor seating and close proximity to quiet neighborhood and coastal trails and beaches behind it!
Nice place for a quick bite. The bread / loaf looked freshly cooked and the meat well spiced and cooked. We were surprised with the quality of food, especially for a tourist spot. Prices were moderate too. Only down side was there wasn’t much choice but that definitely helps one making choices😄
The hot burger was good. Nothing spectacular. The service and outdoor area are great. I wouldn’t get the fries here - only a bit crispier than the flimsy in-n-out ones. The Mac attack is their specialty but it was just ok too.
Over all great venue. Food and little price but was so tasty. They are pet friendly, which for us was a huge plus when traveling with our 2 labs. Would totally recommend
the barn was a great spot for a post hike meal. great atmosphere and friendly staff. i ordered the fried chicken sandwich….it wasn’t the best i’ve ever had but it was pretty tasty. it did feel like it was missing something HOT SAUCE (ty tapatio) my gf loved her salad, fries, and shake
Ordered “Where’s the beef” grilled cheese, side of fries, and Coke in a bottle. Total was $21; I guess inflation is effecting ALL things, even grilled cheese. There’s additional seating across the lot from where you order, one outdoor heater on made for a chilly meal, since all seating is outdoors. There were more heaters across the lot but I wanted to sit in a cozier area. I suggest if it’s 55 or below outside, maybe more than one heater in the closest seating area would make the experience a bit more comfortable.
Awesome restaurant and aesthetics. Just felt like the food was missing something, felt a little bland but good nonetheless. However did enjoy the strawberry lemonade quite a bit. Definitely planning on returning to try out other menu items. Good for groups as well.
I got a Hot Farmer Burger, & Where's the beef(grilled cheese). The meat for the Farmer was cooked medium rare. Other than that, it was good. However, something was missing on the burger, taste wise, it's good, but something just left me unsatisfied. The dining area is outside, but only part of it is covered so you may wanna avoid any rain day visits might run into an issue with setting yourself.
The food was good burgers weren't very big but very tasty. They do not serve fries with their food a very basic menu. Really nice atmosphere outside. The only thing that made it a lower rating was no fries with meal and a very disturbing sign promoting illegal activity. If it weren't for the sign, I would recommend this place.
I had a great visit to The Barn in Half Moon Bay. The relaxed farm-style setting made it the perfect spot to unwind outdoors. I tried the “What Cluck” chicken sandwich which was crispy and flavorful, and the “Where’s the Beef” grilled cheese was rich and satisfying. The BLT was fresh and hearty, and the mango lemonade was the ideal refreshing drink. I finished it off with a slice of Lolliberry pie that was sweet and tangy. A memorable meal in a charming spot.
If you like a crispy chicken sammy this is definitely a great spot to stop at. I got the cluckin crispy sammy and it was delicious, I added bacon to mine which you should do too. The service was so so but it was also a busy Saturday afternoon so i know how hard that can be for someone working there. You should keep an eye out for the weather before heading there cuz if its really foggy theres not many spots to sit outside (no inside dining here). Also this place is definitely pricey (but worth it) we got a burger and a chicken sammy and 2 beers and it was like $80+.
Pretty good spot from my experience in half moon bay. Nothing crazy but had some highlights for sure! Weird thing to point out first, but their ketchup is REAL ketchup… you know… like actually fresh smashed tomatoes made into ketchup. We got the hot farmer, pulled pork, burgers, Mac attack and the fried chicken sandwhich. Everything was pretty dang good after a day at the beach. Peep ittttt

Friendly staff, ok food, charges extra $1 or $2 for sauces on the side and a handful of burger or drink customizations are extra $2 or $3, ok burgers/ side entrees and dessert, 2 different lager style and handful of wine, salads are good, higher prices for any of the milkshakes/food for what you get here
Food is kinda mid and the prices are not really worth it. It’s 15 for a burger which is isn’t even that good and everything else is pretty overpriced too. Better off going to in and out pretty much the same taste but way cheaper. The atmosphere is really nice though.
Hamburger was okay but the fries were cold and hard. Asked for fresh but had to cook them. By that time my Hamburger would be cold. Didn't offer a refund for $7
Two of us had breakfast on a Friday morning. They only do breakfast on the weekend so there was no one else there. The staff were nice the food was ready quickly. This is both counter order and pick up with outside seating. The menu is limited and conventional. The quality of the food was fine.
Went to The Barn today for the first time. Spent 20 minutes in line waiting to order - only one register. Only menu is on a few boards behind the register. Would help if they laminated a few menus and offered them at the door. May speed up the line. Food was good (barn burger, pulled pork w/ spicy slaw, fries, and milkshake). Service at the register and pick up was a bit raw. No greetings or thank yous. It felt like it was the first day of operation despite 10 year anniversary shirts I saw being worn by staff. Only 4 tables in the sage - garden and remaining tables are in the sun. Only menu a hot day like today, it was a brutal experience. It was worth a try - might go back in the future to see if there is a difference.
Good fries, nice patio. But chicken burger dry . Burger patty more steamed than fried. Worth doing some retraining for the protein cook.
As a local, I want to love The Barn. But, as you can see, a common theme in most of the reviews is the food is … bland, especially for the price. My suggestion to ownership would be to revisit the recipes and add more flavor to the sandwiches/meals. And to keep an eye on quality control- the last two times I went there the salads were skimping on toppings, and the fries served were the bottom of the basket. Some attention to details would turn this place back into a 5 star establishment.
Super cute place but the peach and burrata salad was not it. Way too much dressing and the toppings were not evenly distributed. Wouldn’t recommend this menu item but the burger was a lot better.
The food was decent but not for the price. It had restaurant pricing without restaurant service. We got a hamburger, chili dog, a salad, macaroni, and a shake and lemonade for 70 dollars, and I tipped 10.....so 80 bucks. They only have outdoor seating, which I'm fine with. However, you have to grab your food, they don't bring it, you grab water if you want it and you have to bus your table. All of which I'm fine with but not with those prices. I work in the food industry, and it seemed bogus to ask for a tip when they took my order. If it went straight to the cooks, I'd be fine, but the fact that the person ringing me up gets tips for just doing that, doesn't sit right with me.
My family and I have eaten at the barn several times now. First time we ate here years ago, it was great. Since then, it’s left a lot to be desired. The food since has been has just been alright and tbh the staff is rude, not welcoming, and dirty. I’ve never had a friendly encounter with them. They miss on all the simple etiquette of customer service. We won’t be back.
Outrageous prices for little food and uncaring, unknowlegable , unfriendly, service. Shakes are small and thin. Burger is tasty but small. Fries too crunchy. Served warm chenin blab off shelf $16 for small glass. They don’t anything about the wine they serve or how to serve it. No smile , or service, maybe they don’t get paid. Feel like I was robbed. Very cute place with lovely atmosphere which leads to huge let downs with skimpy ultra overpriced food.
This place has one solid vegan option, a BBQ jackfruit sandwich, which I love and stop for whenever I am in the area. They had run out of jackfruit today, and the cashier said The Pretender (a veggie burger) can be vegan. I asked twice if he was sure, and he said yes. During my 30 minute wait for food, I checked online and learned that Parmesan cheese is mixed in to the patties. When I went to collect my food the server confirmed that the cashier had been wrong and that this item can't be vegan. This is two stars instead of one because the server was helpful and apologetic, and the manager agreed that all cashiers need to be trained on what 'vegan' means. I believe they have also refunded my food - hopefully they adjusted my 20% tip to reflect my actual balance.
I bit into my burger and I was halfway done with my food. I thought they gave me a kids meal at 1st. Shrinkflation is alive and well here. Bring back the full size food please.
I tried this place for the first time, and however the atmosphere and the area was great, it took a really long time for an order of French Toast. And more than 20 minutes for a side of soup. Also, the staff while handling bread and vegetables were not wearing gloves which is in my opinion not sanitary.
Food quality got worse there, a couple of years ago it was very good, we went there yesterday ant it was quite bad. Also when food is ready they don't call pagers immediately but they keep it under heating lamps and call people in batches of 6 so the food is no longer served fresh - I don't know why. Fries were smelling with old cooking oil. That was our favorite spot to eat after our walks in half moon Bay - it no longer is.
The fries were some of the worst I ever had, cold, super stale texture, tastes like double fried or old oil, and overly salted. The chocolate shake tasted like there was little chocolate and ice cream, lots of milk. Really want to like this place because the menu sounds amazing, but sub par food and service in my opinion. Hope they turn it around, would try one or two more times before giving up as they have nice outdoor seating, but quality is just not matching their prices. 7 dollars for the worst fries ever, although portion is large.

Been going here for maybe around 9 years now. I used to love it, thought they had one of the best burgers and fries in the area. But last few times I’ve gone its been a let down. Their fries used to be slightly sweet now theyre just salty. And their burgers lately have been way too salty, too much sauce, and/or just plain undercooked. And the prices have gone way up. Its a great vibe and they got great music playing but unfortunately I can’t really justify the price anymore
On August 24th, my family came to have lunch. We waited a long line to order the food already (which is understandable) and waited another 40 minutes to get 2 hamburgers and 1 salad. We saw other customers who came after us were eating hamburgers. When my husband went to check with crews, they said "we are busy." If they missed our order they should have told us. It is unfortunately that we have to carry unpleasant memory.
Service was super unfriendly it felt like the whole staff was annoyed that we were there. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food which was basically cold by the time we got it. The food was okay but all and all the experience was quite mid would not recommend. Also the staff handling the food was not wearing gloves which was concerning.
It is cold out and only a single heater at one of 13 tables with a fire pit at another. I wanted a burger on a gluten free bun due to health issues,. We waited almost 30 minutes for our meals. I was given the BBQ vegan burger w/jackfruit…not what I wanted. When I approached the cashier to address the issue the cashier stated “that’s what he (my son) ordered” Refused to correct my order. I tossed the burger in the trash as I didn’t want fruit as my meal plus I took one bite and didn’t care for it. I’m sure he didn’t care because we paid for it and it wasn’t cheap, for the 3 of us we spent $100 and they wouldn’t even try. It’s sad because I’m not being picky…I have serious food restrictions due to my health. All I can say…Never again, and if I could give them zero stars that’s what I’d give them.
Worst experience ever!!! First no menu on paper for list of ingredients. Then there was a $3.50 charge for a custom order for my mother who has dietary needs. Then when she got her food it wasn't what she expected and wanted to exchange it for something else and guess what... They said no cause in their words " that's what your son ordered and that's it. We can't do anything" TLDR: if I could give a negative review I would give it to them. It's awful and extremely rude
Went to the The Barn after a day of walking the dogs on the beach. My wife wanted to try it so off we went. There were about 20 people in front of us which took like forever (at least half an hour and that's be conservative) to order our food. It took another half an hour (again conservative) to get the food. Having to wait over an hour was not worth it. I had to leave my wife in line several times to check on the dogs in the car and take them for a walk. I ordered the Barn Burger, my wife had What the Cluck and the dogs had grilled chicken. We also ordered a single order of fries, berry lemonade and macha lemonade. Both lemonades were delicious. For a total of $8.50 the size of the drinks could have been larger. Fries were cold and didn't taste fresh. I felt like they cook their fries like In and Out burger which to me are the worst. The Barn Burger was tasteless. Carl's Jr. burgers have more flavor. Wife enjoyed the "What the Cluck". As for what the dogs ate, what can I say. If it smells and taste good they'll eat it. All in all we won't be going back. For $60+ I expect better and this place is not it.
I ordered the what is the cluck sandwich today at 2:17pm and noticed it had very little flavor along with a strong smell of beef grease. I am unsure whether the bread may have been cooked with beef grease, or if the chicken was prepared in the same container or surface as the beef burgers. I did want to talk to the kitchen, but there is long line so I didn’t want wait for it and just ate my order. I wanted to bring this to your attention in case it was an oversight in the preparation process. Also there are too many dogs in the eating table area. I feel I was inside the dog park. Every table has at least one or two dogs. Big and small dogs, one dog suddenly barking loudly behind my seat when the owner is waiting in the line, it scared me, owner did say sorry at the time. I don’t feel comfortable to eat in the table with dogs everywhere, especially the big dog is not tied and just sit next to their owner, we ate inside the car in the parking lot. I only ate one third of my sandwiches and don’t feel I want to finish it. I only ate my fries and it is too dry and over cooked.
Food was extremely bland and way too overpriced. $8 for a grilled cheese that was COLD on basic white bread and a bland burger that didn’t even come with any fries or sides for $14. $10 for a milkshake that came from the grocery store. Farm to barn more like grocery store to barn. You’re better off going to In-n-Out to get a better burger and better deal for your money. Atmosphere vibes were nice tho I guess!
The cashier was extremely rushed, i felt like i was ordering at a Mcdonald’s, “Anything else? Is that all?” no greeting, no eye contact, no have a great day after we paid $80. We both got the “WHAT THE CLUCK” sandwich, w/the option of it being fried & was rubbery & chewy. Didn’t finish it, obviously. the only good part about it was the outside bc it was crispy so we picked that off and put the chicken on the side. the fries were the best part & the fried macaroni bites were good but filling. DONT get the chicken sandwich unless you’re totally ok with taking your time chewing it 20x just to swallow it.
The big guy serving our food had a nasty attitude. After spending 80 dollars on two burgers and one side of fries / two milkshakes he wanted to charge me extra for 2 extra sides of ranch. Disgusting attitude please train your employees better.
Where do I begin me and my wife where looking forward to try this place the whole week and man let me tell you we where so disappointed the food was not good and way over price I don’t mind spending the money on good food but it wasn’t worth the $80 we drove almost two hours just for some mediocre food no flavor or seasoning i do not recommend if you like flavor food and to top it off on their menu it said $3 for chill but were charged $7.50. For this price you would expect the burgers to come with a side but no you still have to pay an additional for some fries.
