Red pearl is fantastic and the best option for Chinese food in Birmingham! The restaurant is huge so there’s not often a wait and the service is good. I really enjoyed my boba..consistency of the pearls and the sweetness were perfect! I would get both meat dishes again. the beef with mixed vegetables and the orange chicken are yummy!! Their menu is huge so you will most likely find something for everyone in your party.
Red Pearl Restaurant is easily my favorite spot for Chinese food in Birmingham. We live about 25 minutes away in the Hoover and Pelham area, but it is always worth the drive. The mini pork soup buns are an excellent appetizer. The salted crispy chicken is a must try, and their Mongolian chicken is more savory than what I have had at other places that load everything with sugar. The flavors are richer and more balanced, and it never feels like eating dessert for dinner. We took our neighbors there last night after they asked for a good Chinese recommendation. Red Pearl came through like they always do. We go maybe twice a month, but the staff still seems to recognize us and they are always incredibly friendly to our two kids. It makes the whole experience feel very welcoming. The attached grocery store is another reason we love coming here. It has a huge selection of Asian foods, fresh vegetables, meats, and even cookware at great prices. I have a very hard time finding a better Chinese restaurant around town. Highly recommend.
I wanted something simple, quick and enjoyable and they delivered. They have a ton of options and Kevin helped point me in the right direction! He gave great service and I would definitely come back here. I had the House Chow Mein and the Crab Rangoons and I recommend trying them!
Red pearl is definitely a one of a kind experience in Birmingham. The asian grocery store next door to the restaurant makes it feel unique and authentic. Food is fresh, tasty and consistent. The menu is extensive and seems like it could fit most dietary preferences.
Very dependable Chinese food with some traditional items and those more suited to American tastes. Friendly staff. Awesome Asian grocery store connected to the building.
We drive an hour and a half to come here. It is always good. Our waiter Hardy was an absolute delight. You cannot go wrong coming here.
I found that this store has a large variety of mooncakes, our family favorite treat! Today was a perfect day to order some, to celebrate my daughter getting to go home from Children’s Hospital, after an 8 day stay. We decided to try a new flavor, Winter Melon, and we added two more flavors we were familiar with. As you can see, one of us was too excited to wait, and already had a treat! LOL I did order this through Uber Eats. When the order arrived, I saw a few more mooncakes than the 3 we ordered. There was a VERY thoughtful & sweet note inside. They were out of the Winter Melon, so they replaced it with another large mooncake & two smaller custard filled. Another flavor we LOVE! A small gesture that made my mom heart feel so full, to see kindness from strangers, business owners. I will be visiting this store next time we are town! Thank you to whoever put our order together today!
Needed somewhere quick for lunch before my sons eye exam. The last time I had been here was before they re-arranged the market and I remembered it was good. I had the general tso's chicken and fried rice. The rice had a smoked pepper flavor that was amazing and the chicken had the right amount of heat. Very impressed overall. I can't wait to come back.
Red Pearl is a must-try! I absolutely love eating here. Every dish I've tried has been fantastic. My fiancé and I make it a point to stop in whenever we're in the Birmingham area. The shrimp toast appetizer is hands down the best I've ever had! For my entree, I usually go with the beef with bamboo shoots, and it's always delicious. Highly recommend!
Shout out to Ms Lena for recommending the curry lamb. I'm in absolute heaven. First time eating here and I've lived in Birmingham all my life. I love how you it's attached to the market and sells traditional foods. Lena originally suggested the Brisket but I was afraid of the spice and ordered the lamb with 2 Beef Egg Rolls. Everyone was so nice and I ordered to go. I just know the dine in experience will be phenomenal. Meal was large enough to share.
The hotel suggested this place. The food was excellent. My husband got the salted crispy chicken and I got the pineapple shrimp. Both were extremely good. Steamed dumplings were very good. The egg roll was small but extremely tasty. We're used to good Chinese and even Chinatown in NYC but this was a special treat. Highly recommend.
Amazing authentic Chinese food… you will simply love it… they have bubble tea as well… the overall ambience is also good. Each and every dish was unique and tasty and we loved the food. We were 5 adults and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food. Next time if I am in Birmingham I know for sure to come here for some Awesome… Chinese food
The gluten free options are many and delicious. It is difficult to find good gf Chinese food but this restaurant deserves a 10. The whole family loved it.

Very good chinese food. I am a chinese food regular and this is one of the top three restaurants I have eaten at in a while.
Pretty good food, a solid 4 /5 for Chinese food! We came here tonight, (17 Oct 25) as we're staying in the area. Upon entry, all the staff ignored us for a few minutes until we got someone's attention. Didn't have a reservation, not a problem as there's plenty of room. The menu is fairly substantial with plenty of choice. Many unusual items like bull frog, Dragon fish etc. We ordered fried dumplings(12) $9, Mongolian beef $14(with fried rice +$1.50), and sesame chicken $13 (with steamed rice). Dumplings were small but nice. Sesame chicken could have done with being more crispy as it was a bit soft. Beef was quite nice,.so overall pretty good.
Tried new dish with every visit either appetizer main dish. With of course our favorites are must have. Good service from staffs then each dishes are very enjoyable. After pig out then go shopping in the store side. Will keep visiting again and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUY!!!
All of the food we had was good, but most of it wasn't great. For me, my favorites were: Green scallion pancakes Cold marinated beef salad Cold marinated cucumber salad For everything else, it seemed to be ever so slightly under seasoned. I had the basil crispy fish, and it had no acidity or heat to it whatsoever. Like I said, it was good, I just know it could have been better.
This is a nice place for Chinese food. We ordered veggie spring rolls. They were good. Wish they came with sauce though. Cashew chicken was good, had lot of mushrooms. This came with a side of sticky rice. Chicken tofu noodles was okay, seemed oily, more of veggies and hardly any chicken. Overall, prices are reasonable. Would recommend this place.
Wow. The restaurant has completed its expansion/renovation. Impressive. Food on menu sounds very authentic. It may be the best authentic Chinese restaurant in Birmingham judging by the locals. U see Asians young and old eating here. I would give this place a 5 star if their portion size was bigger. My dishes were good, but too little. Service was not the typical Asian. They have a few non Asian waiters with nice attitude to take your order and serve you. The super market is a must see after the meal. Walk it off while browsing stuff.
I ordered to go as a walkin. The menu is very unclear on how the lunch special works. It comes with white rice and if you want fried its $1.50 extra but does not fully explain that. Also it does not come with an eggroll, thatvis also an extra charge. I was not given ANY soy sauce. The sauce fir the crab ragoon at ($9.00) was 3/4 full of the tiniest container. Probably won't be back.
Never got a water refill. Used dirty plates not taken away. No deserts even for a birthday. Duck was great plenty cooked nicely and worth the money.
The food was tasty, the restaurant was very busy, but I don't understand why it should have taken an hour and a half from being seated to finally leaving. I've been in far busier Chinese restaurants but never have I had to wait as long as I did for my food to come out. It wasn't just me as most tables were waiting very long times for their food, and almost every table I observed their food orders did not come out to tables properly in that every table of three and four people had one or two people's food come out and the others were waiting anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes for their food to come out (and everybody at those tables also looked perplexed and a little angry). I was dining by myself and ordered an entree noodle dish and a vegetable dish, and my noodle dish came out an hour after I ordered, and then 15 minutes later the vegetable dish came out. I was traveling through on my way further south, and I was not prepared for, and frankly was almost ready to walk out before my food came out, because I didn't have that much time to waste waiting on food that typically should only take 15 to 20 minutes to come out of the kitchen. I ended up not getting to my destination until 11:30 p.m. when I should have gotten there no later than 10:30 p.m. had my food been delivered timely as anticipated.
They have a huge menu with a variety of meat options and vegetable options as well. Loved the Chicken with Garlic Sauce and the Shrimp on rice cakes but the dumplings were bland and fried rice was mediocre. Definitely recommend anyone who loves Chinese cuisine to try this place and the store attached to it. The dishes were either a hit of miss in my opinion but the hits were good We had to wait for 20 minutes for someone to come tend to us and get us started with some water which was a bit disappointing but the place was packed as well so I give them the benefit of the doubt.
Really bland poorly made food. Pot stickers and crab Rangoon looked like it was cooked earlier in the day and put under a heat lamp. Bad texture and flavor was just not good. Grocery store was nice but restaurant is one of the worst I’ve eaten. Won’t be back. Ate there twice also.
Walking order for Mongolian Beef/White Rice for wife and Kung Pao Chicken/fried rice for me. My chicken was good but the fried rice wasn't fried. Looked like the steamed rice with some sauce added, was very sticky, some of the white rice was still white, no vegetables?? Odd since the last time I ordered the same thing, it was very good. My wife said her beef dish was very salty. I tried it and had to agree. Maybe inexperienced cooks?? Don't know but hard to recommend after this experience.
I had heard food was great at this location….I ordered the Garlic sauce chicken with fried rice. It was horrible….fried rice seem to be old…sauce was greasy and too much stuff I don’t know what kind of vegetables except carrots and onions. I wasted my money there….hoping I don’t get sick
Order to go. The grocery store next door is awesome. I got food here at the suggestion of my dentist. None of our food had rice. The food had huge chunks of carrots and was extremely spicy. As a food reviewer, I do spicy. However this was beyond ridiculous spicy. They didn't even warn me and ask when I placed my order. The fried dumplings were hot and dry and the crab rangoons were not good at all. The hot and sour soup was just meh. My husband said the egg rolls he had were good. I think I could have at least given them a three of we had gotten rice with it. Jade Garden in Bessemer has much better food for less AND the meals come complete with rice. Won't go to the restaurant side again.
Horrible customer service from Linda and Quincy. My experience was truly unpleasant. Their energy was very poor. I don't recommend at all.

Nasty, dirty and filthy are the only words I can use to describe this place. It used to be a bit funky in the past but the last 2 times I have been I found it to be filthy beyond belief. Never again …
My husband and I were really excited to try this restaurant but unfortunately we had to leave. Our server came, took our drink order and never came back. I had even mentioned it was our first time there and she didn't offer any assistance. We were VERY patient (We even watched half of a Netflix episode on my phone). We stood up, paid for our drinks and left. Oh! And there were only 3 tables occupied (a total of 8 people)!
