First time visited here with husband. This inn have own pub. Very nice decoration during Christmas time, they have big Christmas tree in front of this inn. Feeling great which local pub have a lot of local people come. Room was very nice. We sure to come back to stay here again. It’s close to Exeter and Dartmoor National park where we love to enjoy drive to see the view of nature.
Stopped off for food on the way home on a long car journey, probably the best decision we have made all holiday - food was delicious, best burger I have probably ever eaten. The pub has such a lovely calm feel and me and my family got to enjoy our meal out in their beautiful garden in the sun! Couldn’t recommend highly enough
We called into this wonderful Pub / Restaurante un an announced , upon arrival a very warm welcome and a seat beside the fire, within no time the orders for food and drinks were taken. The food soon arrived and it was delicious. What a breath of fresh air !. Thank you from the 4 of us you deserve to be a winner.
The food is amazing! I had the pulled pork pie, with vegetables, and it could not have been any better 😋 There is a good selection of drinks too. I will be going back very soon ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A new and interesting method of ordering drinks and/or food in the garden was tried on our last visit here, simply by scanning a QR code at the table. There was a short delay before the order was confirmed, but we were then left wondering if it had actually gone through. Nevertheless, after a few more minutes out came a delightful young woman, with enormous smile, reassuring us mischievously that the technology mostly works, and we shouldn't be mistrusting. We drank non alcoholic coke and beer, and pushed the boat out to eat pork scratchings too, but what I was really angling at was to eat what appeared to be very generous and beautiful looking food. Sadly not this time. The garden was immaculate, and our covered seating area (with corner garden sofa) had delicate LED lights strung along the rafters. It was unfortunate that it was too early to have these on, but gave a foretaste of the ambiance that must be created after dark. The pub itself is centuries old and beautifully presented. There are plenty of parking spaces, and they are situated immediately off of the old A30. I'm looking forward to going back and trying some of that amazing grub and spending an evening in their garden!
The Greyhound is the perfect country pub. A large thatched building on a quiet country road in typical Devon countryside. Inside is roomy and welcoming with great staff, a great bar, large restaurant and spotless comfortable rooms. Have stayed here twice now and will definitely be back.
Visited for Mother's Day. We received a warm welcome with staff being friendly and accommodating. Excellent food and drink at sensible prices. We were talking about when we could revisit as we left. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely fantastic inn/restaurant. The service was so good, thank you for it! The food was lovely too. My nephew said that the tomato and oregano soup was 'legendary'. 😄 The rest of the dishes were great as well. And it was beautifully decorated for Christmas! Will definitely drop by and will also recommend to others.
Visited the Greyhound Country Inn for an evening meal whilst we were away in Monkton. Great food, great service and wonderful friendly staff. Great to have a choice on the menu of smaller portions. Wish other eateries would do this. Brilliant 👏.
This is a very nice place to eat. The food quality is much better than usual 'gastro' pub food. We had an evening meal, 3 adults, 2 children and the atmosphere was very pleasant. This pub is good for children as there is plenty of space. Also the staff are very pleasant. Recommended
not my first time eating here, but have to say I took my family out for my mums 85th birthday, the food was the best I have ever eaten there it was fan static. the whole evening went well there were 8 of us, two of which I book a room us, outstanding reviews came back from them. they thought the rooms felt homely with good views of the countryside around and said the staff were exceptional in making them feel welcomed and settled. back to the evening the staff did a really good job of answering everyone questions advising on wine and food, really well trained exceptionally polite and friendly waiter and waitresses. a job well done. the evening was coming to a close when the birthday cake came out, this was something I had ordered in advance, the stafff and the owner came out singing happy birthday, mum was delighted, certainly made her evening. lovely touches make all the difference.
We have just returned from a one night stay at the Greyhound country inn. What can I say ! We had a lovely time . As soon as we walked in we had a friendly greeting from the staff, wechecked in and we're shown to our rooms . They were immaculate,so clean warm and cozy . We had lunch in the restaurant which was lovely. A good night's sleep in a comfy bed followed by a delicious breakfast. Everything was wonderful! I have to follow a gluten free diet and often struggle when out to find food I can eat. Not there nearly everything on the menu had a gluten free option. I felt thoroughly spoilt for choice . Even gluten free breakfast cereal was available!!! Well done greyhound country inn !!!!
Best steak dinner we have ever had. The food was incredible and extensive gluten free options. Staff go above and beyond to cater to dietary needs, including making sure the cocktail was made gluten free! Amazing service from every single member of staff and the room was lovely.
Friendly and accommodating staff. Came in as a walk-in halfway through their Sunday service. Staff were very helpful and found us a table and said they needed it back by a certain time. Good service, very tasty roast dinners, and an overall great experience. Thanks!
Fantastic country pub, really delicious home-cooked food, great selection of home made pub classics and interesting specials. Also with a good value varied kids menu. Good range of real ales and great range of alcohol-free beers on tap and in bottle/can. Staff are friendly and professional, plus a great outdoor beer garden with plenty of seating, shade, outdoor bar and kids play area. Family friendly, and highly recommended!
What a Gem of a Place! A Historic landmark from The 10 th Century... Beautifully Maintained & Thriving in 2025, Thanks to Wayne Tina & their lovely team! Its Homey & cosy...but Also High end & super comfy. Perfect mix.
Stayed at the Greyhound whilst working locally. Cannot speak more highly of it. Warm and friendly welcome. Very well presented bar and restaurant area. Rooms were spotlessly clean with a comfy bed. However, the highlight is definately the food.
4 of us went for an evening meal, wonderful atmosphere, the staff were excellent and the food fantastic, a traditional English pub providing great value for money, excellent quality, all in all would highly recommend
I didn't think I would ever stay somewhere that ticked every box. From welcome to check out, the service, the room, the drinks, the evening meal, and especially the breakfast, it became a very rare 5 star experience. Very friendly staff who work as a team to provide the guests with everything possible. Well done - I'll be back.
My partner and I tried the Greyhound after it was recommended to me by a friend. The pub had a really lovely atmosphere and the service was excellent, the food was also very good and we really enjoyed our burger and fish / chips. My partner is gluten free and on this we couldn’t fault the greyhound as their menu has a great selection of gluten free options. Will definitely visit again in future and recommend to others!
One of the best meals we’ve ever had! Really friendly staff, amazing location with a beer garden and dog friendly. Would 100% come back again!
Just returned home from an truly delightful meal at the Greyhound Inn. The food and staff was exceptional and friendly. Steak burger was delicious as was the fish and chips. Highly recommend the scallops starter dish. Portions were a decent size and the price paid well worth it for the quality of food. Highly recommended and will definitely return. We went on a Thursday evening and the restaurant area was full by 7pm so I would also suggest booking a table.
Stopped off on the way home from work last minute. Never been before, but very impressed with the old traditional atmosphere I think the bar manager was called Gemma Who was great At her job, all the qualities of front of house great team food was great. Even the toilet smelt nice , I would be very happy if these staff members represented my business Just now, it should be five stars. 👌🏼👊
Absolutely phenomenal; cosy room, lovely food, and friendly staff. Couldn't ask for more, will definitely be back!
One of my favourite places in Devon, actually the best local pub we have. What looks like a simple pub by the side of the road has a fantastic and interesting menu at really good prices. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you!
A fantastic meal at this great local, as always the food was perfect, but have to call out the fantastic service we received and always do receive here, especially Kirsty who looked after us and made our evening out fun (he's banned from sunbathing in the garden whilst I'm at work 😂) the young lad that showed us to our table ( didn't catch his name) and all the other great staff. Thanks and see you soon
The Greyhound Country Inn offers a well-rounded dining experience rooted in British countryside. The meal began with goat's cheese profiteroles - light, crisp, and packed with flavour. The main course, a hearty fish pie with peas and samphire, was warming and satisfying. To finish, the panna cotta provided a smooth, sweet finale. A thoroughly enjoyable three-course meal in a cosy countryside setting.
Only stayed for lunch but the service was friendly and attentive. A very cosy atmosphere plus lots of gluten free options. They even knew about celiac disease. Had a delicious fish goujon roll with no reaction after. Would definitely recommend and happily come back again.
Great family run pub with rooms to stay in if you’re visiting the area. Situated just off the A30 near Exeter airport. It is very busy on a Friday and very popular for family dining. Huge outside area with lots of picnic benches. QR codes on all the tables and fast service. The children’s play area is enclosed and is great for kids to play in while having a drink or after eating. Great selection of drinks and the bar is shaped like a horseshoe so easy to get served. Quiet location.
Very close to main road. Very very nice pie and burger. Chips cooked to perfection. Very quick quick service. Very respectful and kind staff. 10/10 would come again.
Real gem of a place, you need transport yo get there but we'll worth it. It's a lovely setting with large beer garden and children's play area. Inside it's clean neat and attractive. Fast friendly service with good range of meals. Including gluten free and vegetarian options. Wide selection of drinks. Do book if you want Sunday lunch as its very popular!
I really don’t understand the last review comments of today’s date. I too not being a local ( I reside in Kent) was at the Greyhound last Sunday and after looking at their website booked in for Sunday lunch. Their website clearly states that they are open from 11am until 6pm on Sundays and food is served from midday until 3pm only. The website also recommends booking in advance as they can be busy so they do not wish to disappoint if they are fully booked. I personally received great service - I was welcomed when I arrived and taken to my table. The service throughout my meal was first class. Whilst there is a full menu served including specials, roast dinners are also served on Sundays. I chose the roasted pork belly with crackling and had roasted vegetables together with a selection of cabbage, peas and roast potatoes. I also had a Yorkshire pudding and very tasty cauliflower cheese. The pork just melted in my mouth and the vegetables were cooked perfectly for my palate. As for the comment I would give this pub a miss, I can only say I couldn’t disagree more. It was busy with both locals and others that were just passing through and clearly people enjoy the food and atmosphere. I will certainly be visiting again when I am next in Devon and highly recommend you give it a try. I will definitely book ahead though to avoid any disappointment as recommended.
Beautiful Inn. Food was excellent, room was spotlessly clean, power shower. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely stay again and totally recommend. Outstanding, thank you. X
What a wonderful country inn! Our room was lovely-spotlessly clean and freshly decorated with a lovely view across fields. The cooked breakfast was delicious(had everything that should be there including yummy fried bread). The staff and owners were so warm, friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay here-you won’t be disappointed
Great hosts and service. Couldn't ask for more. Beautiful Cosy bar . Rooms where good, clean. I had a walk in shower. Bonus of a decent size TV in the room to. The food was homemade and for me...Great. Breakfast was 👍. Definitely be staying when we are back down in the area.
Went for an early dinner, good selection of food, which arrived quickly and was very nice! I would advise booking though as the restaurant did fill up quickly!
Had a wonderful meal to celebrate my mother’s 92nd birthday. The excellent food was only surpassed by Kirsty’s amazing service. That said, the Jammy Dodger ice cream was out of this world.
Just perfect! One of us had lived in a nearby village for nearly 50 years and had had lunch in the pub many times, and finally had the chance to stay there. The rooms were spotless and everything was provided for; beds very comfortable and the option of just having a sheet for warmer nights is fantastic. Food for lunch and dinner was excellent, as was breakfast - so nice to have fresh fruit salad. What crowned a lovely if brief stay was the wonderfully friendly staff. How a country inn should be run!
A fabulous pub / restaurant- the food is always excellent - it’s usually a first choice for us! We’ve dined both in groups of ten and dinner for two - service is impeccable and atmosphere always convivial. Lovely beer garden too!
Absolutely the best restaurant and hotel to stay, the staff are wonderful, very kind. The food was out of this world 10/10 and the presentation perfect. The room was immaculate, every where was cleaned and spotless. The only bad thing I have to say is,I wish I didn't have to leave. We will be coming back again soon. Thank you too all the staff....
Beautiful experience, great staff lovely food, great selection of drinks and an old pub atmosphere.
Food was excellent. Only slightly let down by the way we were asked to move our two motorhomes, because (unknown to us) we were ‘taking up 5 spaces’. Which we politely obliged of course. Just a polite request to reposition would have been enough. Then we were told three times that our table was booked after us and we would need to be finished by 2 pm. Leaving us feeling our booking was less important that the next. All a bit excessive really as we hadn’t even had our drinks order take before we were told this and we weren’t a ‘walk in’. Anyway, just mention these points in case it helps the owners consider their approach to clients going forward as the food really is excellent. Plus, dog friendly. Always a plus.
Really nice country style pub. Great menu with lots of beers on offer. Lots of seating outside, a brilliant place for a lunch after a long walk or a impressive venue for a special occasion...
Our second stay here, nice place, had a good meal, but this time our room had a bathroom door noticeably narrower than the frame, hence a somewhat perturbing lack of sound-proofing. When we mentioned this all we got was "well no one else has ever mentioned it", so much for taking an interest in customer feedback. And we had forgotten that although they have an espresso machine, you can't have espresso at breakfast because "we don't turn it on until we open at 11", us resident guests just don't count it seems. Now at the bottom of our list of choices for our next trip down here.
I stayed for 2 nights and was very pleased. I took a taxi from Honiton High Street which cost approximately £12. The room was spotlessly clean with a comfy bed, beautiful views across the countryside and quiet despite being on the road. Breakfast is included and was very tasty. I also ate dinner one night which was excellent. One small issue was when housekeeping entered my room without knocking at 10am while I was wearing a towel. I said I would be leaving at 11.15 so could they come back and they left. It might be worth asking staff to knock and check if anyone is in the room before using the key to enter or offer a sign to hang on the door handle to inform staff if you do not want to be disturbed which is standard practice is most hotels. Overall I had a lovely stay and would book again :)
Don’t know about the rooms but I had a lovely Sunday roast. It was really delicious. We loved the way the gravy came in a jug and all the veg were lovely. I have only one quibble… the way the chicken was served. It was kind of cut strangely and the texture was a little odd, it tasted ok though. I would definitely go back.
Unfortunately we didn't have the best experience at the greyhound. I don't usually leave reviews but the experiance was such that I feel it necessary. Firstly, the waitress that bought over our drinks questioned why there were 9 of us but only 8 drinks were ordered, which isn't a problem and actually quite attentive! Unfortunately when I explained that one of the children had a drink of her own made at home it was met with "oh, ok..." with a dismissive look. When the food that we ordered arrived. The 3 pizzas ordered for children were completely burnt to a crisp. When I challenged the waitresses and asked if they thought the pizzas were overcooked, they replied that these were pittas - the menu stated these were pizzas. They were burned to the point of having to order something different on the menu. The replacements meals, and the food in general was underwhelming considering the price point. I'd heard good things about the greyhound and I sincerely hope this was just a one off.I think the owners may need to look at their customer service and the general quality of food. As I say, it may have been bad luck and I'm always willing to give the benefit of the doubt but I won't be rushing to go back. Since our visit, friends of mine have also commented the customer service is sub-par. I sincerely hope that this is addressed because with some changes in quality of food and service it has the potential to be an excellent pub.
I recently visited The Greyhound, and I have to say, it was a pretty disappointing experience. First off, the service was painfully slow. We waited over half an hour just to place our order, and the staff seemed completely uninterested. When our food finally arrived, it was lukewarm and looked like it had been sitting out for ages. I also found a dog hair in it?! The food itself was another letdown. I ordered the fish and chips, which is usually a safe bet, but the fish was greasy and the batter was soggy. My partner’s steak was overcooked and tough, even though they asked for it medium-rare. The atmosphere didn’t help either. The pub was dimly lit and felt really cramped. The tables were sticky, and it seemed like they hadn’t been cleaned properly. Overall, it was a very disappointing visit, and I wouldn’t recommend.
Absolutley shocking to say the least , on holiday so I fancied popping in for a drink , waited at the bar while listening to how Rudely the young and older woman who work behind the bar spoke to a couple because it striked as an “ irritation “ as a few people come in at once , I was close to walking out but waited to get served , I asked for a pint of Guiness , it was part poured as it should be but not settling as it should , I said “ is the Guiness okay as if not it’s fine I’ll have something else , the older woman’s reply , “ yes , I’m just waiting ! “ I followed up after a further minute to say don’t worry I will have an estrella , she poured that and I paid , during that and to say the least it tasted like the beer lines haven’t been cleaned in a while , I’m shocked as to listen to the younger and older woman’s attitude towards customers is not only rude but dam right disgusting ! Advice , get them two woman who may I add have zero manners , zero patience and shouldn’t be in front of the public , check the lines are cleaned regularly and check to see if the Guiness is fine or change the barrel if it has gone , but I will return and hopefully someone else is working or these two have learnt manners … FYI the two woman working between 3pm-4pm on Wednesday 13th August 👍🏻
