Opinions de Armando's Houston
Classic Mexican cuisine. Food is fantastic. Staff is great as well. Never disappoints.
In Houston for the weekend from Dallas for a conference and decided to celebrate at Armando’s — and wow, what an experience! 🌮🔥 The Tex-Mex food was absolutely amazing. Every dish was packed with flavor, and honestly, we don’t have anything like this back in Dallas. The place was busy, but the service was outstanding the entire time. Huge shoutout to the bartender — bald head, muscle guy — you were incredible! 💪🍹 Super fast, friendly, and on point all night. He definitely made the experience even better. And Thursday night? Even better! From 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. it turns into a club, which makes the whole vibe next level. Great food, great service, and then great party atmosphere — can’t beat that! Definitely coming back next time we’re in Houston! P.s, carne asada and chicken enchiladas Verde 💯!!!!!!!
I just had the most fabulous party for 55+ in my home and Armando’s catering made it a success!!! I knew the food would be fantastic, that’s a given. We had a fajita bar with chicken, beef and shrimp, plus queso and guac stations, chips, sauces, rice & beans, tortillas and margs on the rocks. Spectacular. But the absolute rock stars who made my party soooo effortless, were the servers/bartenders: Karen, Yane and Maria. REQUEST THESE LOVELY QUEENS!!! They were soooo sweet, totally organized, FAST, and came up with a million ideas I hadn’t thought of. All three have a very artful eye and displayed my buffet so beautifully. Much more so than I envisioned and I’m veryyy particular about the details and decor. They passed drinks and dessert, as well as served at the bar and beyond. They were everywhere all at once. It was amazing!! They quickly cleared the chafing dishes off the bar and replaced them with dessert trays. Then they stored all the food in containers, organized my pantry when they put my things away, whew!!! I’ve had small catered events (Thanksgiving) but nothing as full service as this. Also, this was the largest party I’ve had in my house, so anxiety was high. But as soon as I met these three lovely women, the anxiety was gone. I knew they had me. They allowed me to be a guest at my own party. This was a discerning crowd, and everybody said it was one of the best parties they’ve been to in a very long time. None of that would have happened without Armando‘s and Karen, Yane and Maria. I can’t thank you enough!!! Seriously! Beyond touched at the extra effort by all. Again, if you’re having a catered event by Armando‘s, request this trio!! Almost forgot, shout out to Brittanni, one of the catering associates who I communicated with in the planning of this party. We had to modify the order several times as the guest list grew and she was great!
Armando’s Mexican on Kirby never disappoints. The food is consistently flavorful and well-prepared, with standout classics like enchiladas, fajitas, queso, and fresh guacamole done right. Everything feels a step above typical Tex-Mex without losing that comforting, familiar taste. Service is attentive, professional, and polished without feeling stuffy—staff does a great job making you feel taken care of from start to finish. While it’s priced on the higher end, the quality of the food, strong drinks, and overall experience make it a solid value, especially for a nice dinner or special occasion. A Houston staple for a reason.
The staff here is delightful. All members I interacted with were lovely. The food is also spectacular and truly reminds me of Monterrey. I hope to plan an event here soon!
We used the taco truck for our graduation event 50 guest and it was a hit! The food was DELISH and the servers went above and beyond to keep people fed and happy. It’s worth mentioning Maria, Luz and Francisco because they were 10/10 with their attentiveness to guests and so helpful to clean up. Thinking of another reason to host a party and use Armando’s!!!
Armando's is worth the premium for a special occasion or to treat yourself. The food, service and atmosphere were excellent. We had the ribeye and cheese enchiladas, fajitas mixta and lobster tail for mains; guacamole and queso flameado for appetizers; tres leches for dessert; King Margaritas on the rocks and House Margaritas frozen: all were exceptional. This is one of those places that when you get the bill, you remark how that's a really good value for the premium food quality.
Last night was my very first time eating at Armamdo’s. It came highly recommended. I was not disappointed. The Carne Guisada, rice & beans were absolutely DELICIOUS!! The “Mexican Brownie” and Tres Leches Birthday Cake desserts were the perfect ending to an amazing birthday dinner. We are planning on coming back but next time on a Thursday night for some salsa dancing!! Thank you for the great service and scrumptious food. Blessings on continued success!!
5 stars for being a really Fun dinner date restaurant.. but 3.5 stars for the food. The chips and salsa which is more like a warm ranchero sauce were So good! We had the cheesy taco appetizer (don't remember the name and not pictured), lamb chops, sea bass, and the tres leches. The appetizer and the cake were my favorites and delicious!! Try the Lulu's Cocktail 🍋
CHECK IF THEY ARE OPEN We love this place yet have to give them a star off for ordering online. Their hours are inconsistent across google, their phone and online ordering apps. So frustrating. We tried ordering for the football game and it became a go there twice to pi k up and WAIT
The food was overall good, I really enjoyed the octopus was my favorite but unfortunately the service was not good, the delivered our food to the next table that not only arrives later than us but also the place wasn’t busy at all, probably only 6 tables.
I will explain Mothers day service at the bar as I experienced it. Firstly, the bartender was friendly, communicative, and offered his suggestion off the brunch menu between my inquiries. The tortillas are fried to golden perfection. However, the salsa is served warm and not like any I have had before; it is completely unappealing to me: A tad bit greasy, a minute julienne strip of fresno chili (not enough spice to actually carry into this ranchero sauce). It is a rustic style, tomato skins, and large chunks of vegetables (such as onion, tomato, as well as a vegetable I was unable to determine what it actually was). I think this sauce would make a delicious tomato soup if pureed with added cream, in any case. However, if you like chips and want options other than queso (which might be spicy for some) this ranchero sauce might be preferred as the business explained in their initial reply. My bartender who did perform five-star service offered me substitutes for the ranchero (sauce/salsa?). A cold traditional salsa, a made-in-house hot sauce, and a deliciously tangy salsa verde (the best creamy green salsa I have had in town). On to the main course: I had Steak & eggs served with home-fry style potatoes and refried beans. These beans were also the best I have had in Houston but the potatoes were lacking in flavor. The steak I had asked for medium rare plus but while it did have a warm center it was closer to rare than to medium rare.
If you are going during the weekend reserve a table. It's extremely busy and the dining area on the smaller side. Even with a reservation it took them 17minutes for a party of 4 to be seated. Valet parking is only 5$. The atmosphere: business casual. Very lively; Everyone is talking so if you're looking for a quiet place this is not it. You might have trouble hearing people in your table. Margaritas are 14$ for a frozen which comparatively to other restaurants was not worth the price. The presentation for the "Panchita" (3rd picture) looked sloppy what you expect from an inexpensive mexican diner. Apart from that it was amazing, we order one of their specials; Carne asada with shrimp that was full of flavor. The spinach enchiladas was also great. For a table of 4 with a margarita each, guac, queso and 4 entrees was $186. Everyone agreed the beans were amazing.
Armandos on Westheimer is not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant. There are white tablecloths and they don’t serve chips and dip. With that aside, Armandos does serve excellent food! Went for brunch with a few others and everyone raved about the side of beans - smoky and slightly mashed to perfection. We went for restaurant week and appreciated that the chef would allow us to choose from either the restaurant week menu or the normal one. We ended up ordering from the restaurant week menu that included a main dish and a dessert for $25 (plus tax and tip). Two in our party ordered the steak and eggs, which added $15 per order, which was fine overall however the steak was not cooked as requested. Due to the nearly non-existent service, it was not worth waiting to ask to have the steak cooked more. We were there for brunch, arrived at 1:30 pm with less than a handful of other tables present. Our waiter was more concentrated on cleaning up after the guests left, which meant our water glasses sat empty for up to 15-20 minutes at times. The waiter also forgot to bring the order as requested for the huevos rancheros - asked for the chorizo, which is part of the meal, on the side, meal arrived without it and when I asked for it to be brought to the table an additional $3 charge appeared on the bill. While we are glad that we were not rushed out of the restaurant, being neglected and having to wait for extended periods is also to be avoided. It was our first time there and likely our last despite the flan served for dessert one of the best I’ve ever had. Disappointing service unfortunately left a bad impression.
Atmosphere: 4/5 The atmosphere here was the best aspect in my opinion. Nice ambient lighting reminiscent of a steak house. Service: 3/5 Service was fine and relatively attentive but we did end up waiting for quite some time to get menus and request the bill at the end. Food: 1/5 This was the most disappointing part. The chips were thick and warm but unevenly salted. Some were like the ocean, others with no salt. The salsa was bizarre; like warm chef boyardee tomato sauce. No spice, kick, cilantro, or lime. When the chicken nachos came out it seemed like they had already begun to cool. Cheese was stiff and becoming more rubber like. The chicken was very bland, like frozen fajita strips cut up. Not good nachos, and certainly not for $20. The carne guisado was okay. The sauce was good but reminded me a lot of wolf brand chili. The beef in it though was very bland and dry. Drinks: 4/5 House margarita on the rocks was good. Didn't taste like a margarita mix and more like the simple fresh mix you'd make at home. A little weak though. Summary: Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but this place was a bust for me (and that's not even considering the prices). $20 for room temperature nachos? This experience was particularly bland and underwhelming and the upscale prices is just the kicker. I would not have been shocked if this place was in say, Connecticut or something, but not Houston, Texas. And again, what's going on with the salsa?
