Oh my goodness this place is amazing. Comfortable, cozy and can be romantic. Out door seating. Let's talk about the food 😋. Deeelish . The most delicious chicken & waffles and grits I ever tasted. The staff let me tell you .... Nice and pleasant and very friendly. Attractive and very attentive.

Unlike many other places Johnathans doesn't have a limited menu. I had the pork chop with gaucho sauce and my wife had the fradiavlo. So much food we had to take half home. Please support your local places!

Great restaurant with lots of variety and good service! I’d recommend Gavin as your waiter when you go in. The burger was amazing.

Great dining experience at the original Johnathan's the Rub. Went there for a very generous lunch as part of HRW. Totally coming back.

This place is delicious. Love the food, love the service, love the owner. If you're in the area, I'd highly recommend trying this place out. But FYI, it is slightly on the pricy side. Lunch is definitely more affordable than the dinner menu.

My wife really enjoys going to Jonathan's The Rub on Memorial and really enjoyed this location. This is my first time and the Texas burger was amazing. Great atmosphere. A perfect Father's Day location to spend lunch with my family.

Everything on the menu is great!! My go to items are the blackened pork tenderloins and Julio soup. The wait staff is amazing! All the waiters and waitresses help with all the guests so you don't have just one person serving you. Can't go wrong here. Oh, did I mention the byob??!!

First trip to the new place (it’s been open about a year). Just dropped by to check out the neighborhood vibe and enjoy a Marg. Marg was excellent. The aroma alone is enough to draw you back. Look forward to enjoying dinner here, as the menu looks fantastic. This will become part of my dinner rotation.

Loved the menu choices today for Sunday Brunch or Lunch menu. The waiter was attentive but not intrusive. He always came with a smile to the table. My husband had the shrimp plate. Look at all those shrimp. I had the tortilla soup which had just enough spice for me. The kids ordered from the brunch menu. One had the short rib with fried eggs. Delicious and all gone. The pregnant daughter gave her breakfast her best shot, but left with a doggie bag. We will be back.

A very friendly experience. The food exceeded my expectations. The staff was excellent, attentive, friendly but not overly so. A great bar selection as well.

Almost everything we had was great. The salads are fresh and crisp, the soup is rich, and the main dishes are large enough that everyone took a to-go box. The brownie sunday is "hurt your teeth" sweet, but the bread pudding is excellent. Coffee is flavorful. Service was good and there was plenty of seating outside. We went for lunch in August, but the ceiling fans and shade wall kept thing cool.

Delicious dishes and great service with Mgr Sam. A wonderful adult like atmosphere for a Saturday at 5pm. Try the wine, Silver Oak, you won’t be disappointed.

Delicious! The pub burger was amazing. One of the top burgers in Houston. The fries were okay but would have liked crisper. The onion rings were pretty good. The wedge salad was also very good.

The food was great, but the service is what really stood out. They struck a balance of being on point, but not annoying. The wait staff payed close attention to our table, from a distance, and made sure we were taken care of exactly when we needed it. The chicken parmesan was a slightly different flavor than I'm used to, but tasted amazing. My wife's chicken sandwich was even better. A bit pricy, but you get what you pay for.

Update June 2021: Wow. While I miss the charm of the old location, this new spot is fantastic. Outdoor seating is great and food and service, top notch like always. Bonus about the new spot is that they have a full bar. I repeat, FULL BAR! Now you can get Jonathan’s amazing food and a great cocktail. Try the Mac and Cheese and do not leave without having a Nutella Cheesecake, trust me, you will not regret it. And for those that love a little spice try the jalapeño margarita, yum! May 2020: Celebrated our 10th year anniversary in quarantine with some amazing take out from Jonathan’s. We’ve been here several times and it’s consistently amazing food, even to go! What sets this place apart is the fantastic service, quality and care you get, every single time. Thank you for the memories. We’ll be back soon.

Haven’t been to JTR since the Gaylord store’s closure. Pleasantly surprised. Contemporary interior with a bar. Friendly services. Plenty of options on the menu (even for lunch). Can’t beat its value-for-money price. Two course lunch menu for $20.

You MUST LOVE MEAT to read the rest of this review. You wouldn't expect this from this place from the outside. It's s very unassuming place. A neighborhood restaurant feel with steakhouse prices, which may turn some people off. This place is expensive based on first impressions...knee-jerk reaction based on the fact that it's basically in a shopping center between a bunch of apartments. When I first saw the menu I had to remind myself that I don't mind paying a premium if i'm getting a great food experience. (The line of "old money" luxury cars in the parking lot is your first clue. It's worth the price, the ambiance is the bonus for those looking for LOCAL experiences.) I've loved everything I've tasted here. I won't order wine because they do mark up more than most and I can get these wines anywhere. I focus on the food because I can't get this awesome food anywhere else but here. I'll keep going back if they keep doing what they're doing!! Heads up: The two locations do NOT serve the same items even if they are named the same. For example the shrimp and grits are different flavor profiles and styles.

What has taken me so long to try this place!? Really great service. Fast and very friendly. Bar tenders nailed by peach Moscow Mule mocktail!! We were too early for dinner. So we decided to do HH bites tapas style. We weren't disappointed! The gumbo was perfection. The Tres Leche was pure deliciousness. I look forward to trying dinnerenu items next time.

Went here for the 1st time and sat at the bar. The service was quick and excellent, with great suggestions. The Triple Smoke Burger was awesome and the Prickly Pear Tequila Sour was just what I needed. Will definitely return.

I'm guessing this is a family owned business because everybody on their team was in a great spirit which makes the costumer experience 10 times better. The food has so much flavor in it and all the portions was large. I felt like i was eating on that pork chop for 3 days. If I lived here I would visit here weekly. You would think you need a reservation for this place but we didn't do go enjoy.

V
Van N

We visited their new location on Campbell and the food and service are just as good as when they were across the freeway. The prices on the food have gone up slightly, but the flavors and portions are still huge. They also have a full bar now with great cocktails so it's no longer BYOB.

A
Ashley

The old location was much more of an intimate setting. It’s very loud inside as there are no real sections to keep distance from tables. Be sure to have a reservation or be prepared to wait for a while. I sat at the bar and had excellent service! The food was amazing but I did ask for a side of ponzu sauce to drop my shrimp in. Nice chat on the shrimp and the rice was cooked perfectly.

Update: the menu has changed since they moved. I miss seeing my old favorites. But the food and service is still good. Adding photos from recent brunch. Supporting this neighborhood restaurant one more time before they move to their new location. Will defiantly miss being able to walk over to this fine restaurant. Food was fabulous as always.

Still looking for the ultimate fries. Did not find them at Jonathan’s Rub…BUT I did find the ultimate Onion Rings. I’d come here just to get the rings, they’re that good. The fries were good, just not great. Well cooked with a very nice spice on them. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Nice texture, just not the ultimate. Menu looks really good but didn’t try anything on it. Prices are high so expect to pay a good amount for dinner with a date.

We went for happy hour and were pleasantly surprised. Speedy and friendly service. I ordered the sweet chili shrimp and he got the mashed potato balls. Both were really tasty. For drinks we got a Cosmo and a martini. Yum.

Dropped in for drinks and appetizers and had a nice time. The bartender was super friendly and the drinks were great. We had an aperol spritz and their strawberry mule. The bruschetta and BBQ shrimp were delicious.

We sampled several dishes, including the Jalapeño Red Fred fish, crab cakes, mac and cheese, wedge salad, and enjoyed an old fashioned cocktail. The Jalapeño Red Fred fish stood out with the kick from the Jalapeño that was a harmonious blend of spice and flavor. The crab cakes were generously filled with fresh crab meat, seasoned to perfection, and accompanied by a tangy remoulade that complemented them well. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich with a blend of cheeses that provided comfort in every bite. The wedge salad was crisp and refreshing, topped with ripe tomatoes, crispy bacon, and a creamy dressing that tied all the elements together. The old fashioned cocktail was well crafted.

I really like this restaurant. I had been to the other location on Memorial Dr. a couple of years ago, but this experience was way better. I had a seafood dish and dessert, but was with a nice size group and tried some of their items. The onion rings were outstanding, cracked pepper on the breading, the filet mignon was cooked to perfection, and tried the carrots in maple cinnamon glaze. For my entree I had the Chilean Sea Bass with Isaka sauce over a bed of spinach. Super light and tasty. For dessert I had cheesecake regular, not Nutella, really great crust and thick and creamy. My friend had Coconut, I would definitely get that next time. Our waiter Nick was super!

N
Nobu, that's me

Quietly one of the best restaurants in the city. Enjoy the vibes and food because both are top notch!! The menu has enough variety to keep you eating here for a while. The staff is incredible. I have nothing but good things to type about Jonathan! Well… that’s the rub of it.

Had one of the specials of the night, fish and chip which were good but the real highlight of my meal was the onion rings I ordered after seeing some delivered to a nearby table. Best I've had in a long while.

Have been here a couple of times and am more impressed each time. This location in specific does it right. Each time I went someone I believe who is a manager went above and beyond to ask me about my meal, if I wanted my steak cooked more, or if he could get me other plates/ utensils etc. Whatever I needed it was given to me. Also, amazing food. Trust me the cheese grits and all of their sides are to die for. The steak there is the star. Other than that I also love love love their chicken and waffles. Overall 5/5 always come here with family and enjoy every minute of it.

It was my first time to have lunch here. I had the 2 course menu lunch which has quite a few choices. It was all delicious. I had wine too. The wine pours are generous which is a nice change from other restaurants. The atmosphere is really cozy and super comfortable. They have those “cloud” things up by the ceiling which make the ambient noise so tolerable. No screaming across the table to be heard by your date. My first time won’t be the last. I really enjoyed this place.

K

Family wanted something new so we took a chance on this place. Ambiance was good and the service was spectacular. Thank you Abbyfpr the swrvice and smile. The food was more upscale to match the decor and cleanliness of the restaurant. But another gem was the manager Ben. He checked on us and made us feel like family. We cant wait to go back and try some of the delicious cocktails we saw coming from the bar and the great selectionof wines.

My wife and I went back tonight and had a fantastic evening. The hostesses were friendly and welcoming and our server Monika from Macedonia was professional, highly attentive and a pleasure to talk to. The bar and tables were all full, so the atmosphere was great without being loud, good acoustics means you don't have to shout to hear each other unlike most other restaurants. Jonathan's son Sam moved between the kitchen and engaging the guests with his highly personable demeanor. All the food was great, starting with mussels in white wine sauce with lots of crispy grilled bread for dunking. We had redfish, two different ways and really enjoyed both. The onion rings are old school (not beer battered), sliced large with just the right amount of seasoned breadcrumbs and fried perfectly. If you like cauliflower, or think you don't, please try theirs and you won't regret it. Roasted, then flashed fried and topped with a small amount of shredded cheese, they are tender and delicious.

A

What a great place! Lively atmosphere with football on the tvs yet you can still hear your table. Very friendly staff. The food is creative and delicious! The fried chicken was crunchy and flavorful and came with a roll AND biscuit (with butter and jam), cole slaw which I think had cumin, an unusual yet tasty spin, bacon gravy which was SO GOOD and creamy mashed potatoes. Plenty for 2 meals. Also had hot honey on the side. Large cocktail list and delicious house wines.

Really good food. They have a two course lunch menu for $25. The portions are large and the service is good but it sometimes gets crowded so you might want to do reservations or sit at the bar or outside. It's a bit expensive but worth it.

Celebrated my partners birthday here and was our first experience with Jonathans. The service was great from all staff. We brought a cake with us and they were kind enough to arrange the cake topper and candle for us. They were very attentive and kind. Favorite dish of the night was the side of scallops. Our server was Marissa she was great and the manager also stopped by to wish a happy birthday. I would go again and would recommend to someone as well.

A group of friends and I visited Jonathan’s for brunch; there were six of us total. We loved the convenience of being able to park right in front of the restaurant - not in a garage or having to use valet, and we were welcomed right away upon entering the double glass doors. The decor is upscale, but the atmosphere is relaxed and laid back, which we appreciated. Since we don’t see one another often, my friends and I are sometimes noisy, but we felt comfortable laughing amongst ourselves. Our waiter, Roman, was personable, attentive and knowledgeable. We started with the strawberry and hibiscus mimosas - DELICIOUS! Between the six of us, we tried the bacon-wrapped scallops, the lobster tacos, the gumbo, the redfish, the shrimp and scallops over grits, the pancakes and the chicken fried steak and eggs - AMAZING! The portions are very nice; none of us finished our entrees. We will definitely be back and certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Service was impeccable in this newish location! I had the Dr. Pepper BBQ Pork Chop and Caesar salad combo - pork chop was excellent, but HUGE. Not a big fan of the Dr. Pepper Barbeque sauce, would prefer a simple grilled/smoked chop. My lunch partner had a burger and loved it!

This is my 2nd time at this particular location and they never disappoint! It was my sister’s birthday and we had reservations at another restaurant. The other restaurant canceled on us after we arrived stating the chef was too busy catching up on orders and would not accept any more customers. We called Jonathan on the Rub and they gladly took out large party and made my sisters birthday a memorable one. The food was delicious as always and the customer service was excellent! Definitely will be back!

Went last week for happy hour. Amazing deals on the most delicious cocktails and small plates. We had the sliders, the meatballs and the pork dumplings. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Really reasonable prices. Our waitress Melanie was so sweet and fun. She made the whole experience an absolute blast! We plan to come back for happy hour next week. And you HAVE to get the tiramisu. Just make sure you have like 4 people to split it with because it's gigantic.

I can't think more highly of Jonathan the Rub. My wife and I decided to try their newer location for lunch after church. We loved everything!! Our waitress was named ABBY, and she was the best we ever had. We've been to JTR before, and today, it was equally as great as before. We will definitely be back. We had a few dishes, but the standouts were the pork chop, the gumbo, and the margaritas were excellent. Do yourself a favor and try out all of their locations.

This is hands-down, the best restaurant anywhere along the memorial I 10 corridor. Is ridiculous to see some of its lesser peers receive higher rankings. The food is amazing with a good variety that keeps you coming back. Great wine, selection, and cocktails as well. Suitable for business dinners and lunches or more casual evening on the town.

My husband has been enjoying these burgers since his high school days back in 2012--and he hasn't stopped since! Ever since we moved back to Houston a few years ago, we've made it a weekend tradition to visit this restaurant. The food is consistently outstanding. From the juicy, flavorful burgers (hands down the best I've ever had) to the dumplings and chicken parmesan, every dish is absolutely delicious. You can truly taste the quality in every bite. We also want to give a special shoutout to Abraham, the bartender, who knows our orders by heart and always goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The service here is just as impressive as the food--every visit is a fantastic experience. Even my family from out of town, who are notoriously picky eaters, fell in love with their meals and still rave about them a year later. This place has definitely earned the title of our favorite restaurant in Houston. Sam is doing an incredible job running this location!

Jonathan’s the Rub has become my go-to dining destination, and for good reason. Its convenient location, outstanding service, delectable dishes, and delightful drinks make it an absolute favorite of mine. Located a mere 4 minutes away from my home, this restaurant has effortlessly woven itself into the fabric of the Spring Valley community. One of the standout features of Jonathan’s the Rub is its impeccable service. The staff's attentiveness and genuine warmth create an inviting atmosphere that makes every visit feel like a special occasion. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with a smile and taken care of throughout your meal, making the dining experience truly exceptional. The culinary offerings at Jonathan’s the Rub are nothing short of exquisite. Having tried an array of dishes, I can confidently say that each visit is a journey of flavors and textures. The fried dumplings are a delightful starter, bursting with flavor and perfectly crispy. The sweet chili shrimp is a personal favorite, offering a tantalizing balance of sweetness and heat that's simply irresistible. And who could forget the beautifully presented glass of prosecco, a refreshing companion to any meal. Beyond these highlights, the lemon drop cocktail, lobster sliders, and crab cakes further exemplify the culinary prowess of the establishment. The lemon drop is a zesty and invigorating treat, while the lobster sliders and crab cakes showcase the restaurant's dedication to quality seafood, prepared to perfection. Jonathan’s the Rub isn't just a restaurant; it's a cornerstone of the Spring Valley community. Its consistent excellence and diverse menu make it a gathering place for friends, families, and food enthusiasts alike. Whether it's a casual get-together or a special celebration, this restaurant effortlessly rises to the occasion, leaving an indelible mark on all who dine here. In conclusion, Jonathan’s the Rub has won my heart with its outstanding service, delectable dishes, and inviting ambiance. The fried dumplings, sweet chili shrimp, and accompanying prosecco are culinary delights worth savoring, and the lemon drop, lobster sliders, and crab cakes maintain the high standard of excellence. This restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it's a cherished asset to our community, enriching our lives one plate at a time.

Food was absolutely FABULOUS!!! Started with the crabcakes. Ate before I could take a pic. Lol.... They were absolutely delicious!! Brussel sprouts were devine. Caribbean shrimp was sooo tasty. Dumplings were perfect. BEST margaritas EVER! Food was flat out perfect! Service was a bit slow. That's why I'm not giving it 5 stars. We sat for 20 minutes before we flagged someone down to help us. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Overall, FABULOUS!!!

We decided to try Johnathan's The Rub because of Houston Restaurant Week. First Impression: Johnathan's is a nice restaurant. The bar area is nice, with granite counter tops with high back bar stools. The dining room is classy yet causal. We love the open concept cooking area.. We did not have a reservation so we sat at the bar. The server took our orders quickly and our food arrived hot to the table fast. The gumbo with super meaty with actual crab in the soup. It was really tasty. The Chili Shrimp were good. The wedge salad was excellent. The crab cakes were average. The Chicken Pamassean was excellent, however it was so huge. It will take days to eat it. The shrimp & girts were savory and cooked to perfection. They ran out of white chocolate bread pudding, so we had brownie sundaes which were delious and one slice of Nutella cheese cake it was ok. Yes, we would definitely return. I took a star away because everything was so good, I high hopes for the crab cakes, yet they were a disappointment. Give Johnathan's a try. Delious ❤

Curiosity satisfied about this restaurant. Location is excellent, right off I10. Service is friendly but perfunctory. The mussels were really flavourful, the shrimp was nice. The chicken fried steak was also good. It is a bit pricey.

If you’re looking for a place for lunch or dinner that is slightly more upscale without going too far in that direction, then a good choice is Jonathan’s the Rub, an American food restaurant with Italian options. This local chain has a few locations in the greater Houston area and this one, on Campbell road right next to Interstate 10, is the one I have visited the most times and each time has been pleasant for multiple reasons. I usually visit here for lunch because the location is very convenient to my job. The lunch menu consists of sandwiches, burgers, salads, Italian foods, and an assortment of other items that include everything from shrimp to porkchops. Whatever taste you’re craving, there is bound to be a food option to match. The dinner menu is similar, with just a few adjustments. My favorite lunch item to get at this restaurant is the Rub Burger. It’s a large burger topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and jonny sauce. It’s well- seasoned and served with a side of fries. It’s a filling lunch that will satisfy your appetite all the way to dinner, and perhaps beyond. The burgers all include eight ounces of meat, so you are almost certain to leave feeling full, and you might even need to ask for a box to take some home. For dinner, there are many excellent items, like the chicken parmesan, Denver roast, blackened pork tenderloin, and others. They have vegetarian options as well, and a full bar so that you can find just the right drink to pair with your meal. I have had good experience with the service at this Jonathan’s location, too. And if you like dining outside, they offer that option. Jonathan’s the Rub is a little pricier than other restaurants. But the slightly more upscale vibe, the attentive service, and the portion sizes make it worth the money. I like the open kitchen concept, too, because you can watch the food as it’s prepared. It’s a good restaurant option overall, and one I recommend for lunch or dinner.

The restaurant has moved from the tiny spot I remember 15 or so years ago. Easy parking… nice bar and restaurant atmosphere. The host and our waiter were extremely friendly and attentive. Food was good. The bacon wrapped scallops were delicious and grandma’s cheesecake was just as I remembered it! Family style sides allow for easy sharing the prime ribeye oscar and filet were good!

This food was very flavorful. I got the bunker hill I believe it was the chicken and shrimp pan seared it was a little spicy and the Denver roasted which was savory and sweet. Our side was the macaroni. The service was slow our drinks didn't stay full, we had to wait between our appetizer and order our entree. Overall it was good.

Small cozy restaurant with great food and a bar. Was a little noisy but not to the point qhere were couldnt hear each other. Was easily accessible for a person with a walker. Service was fantastic. Had the double cut pork chop that was fantastic. Tender and juicy. The red fish was excellent and the chicken picata was delicious. Would recommend making a reservation through open table.

Food: I got your shrimp and grits to go. The fish was so yummy and I particularly liked the grits but overall, the salt was way too salty! Service: even though it was to go the greeters were really polite and helpful.

I enjoyed the food so much but the service left so much to be desired. Ignored us from the moment we sat down... Its a good thing we weren't in a rush. He seem attentive to ALL his other tables. Just not us... Didn't even get his name. The guy with the man bun needs more training for sure.

This was my first time coming here. I was surprised that they had happy hour on a Saturday. So, with that being said, we ate off the happy hour menu, starting with the Sweet Chili shrimp & Buffalo chicken tenders, which were delicious. We also had the dumplings and campechana, and that was good too. The only thing that was not good was the BBQ shrimps and the mash potatoes balls 😏. The drinks were on point and good. Overall, the customer service was very good, and I will come back to try the entrees.

P
Paul

We had a party of 12 and the dinner went well. Appetizers included bruschetta, meatballs, and dumplings both steamed and fried. All of them were decent portion size and tasted great. Chicken parm could be best in the city, chicken alfredo was very good but not served with typical fettuccine noodle, Dr pepper pork chop nice and tender, mashed potatoes on the side where good but nothing to rave about, Denver pot roast was received well with a very rich sauce, crab cakes disappeared without comment, as well as the salmon. Service was very good however I wish they could have cleared our plates faster. Overall a very good experience and we will return.

R
Roni

Totally overrated. The chicken and sausage gumbo was good. The pecan crusted trout was not seasoned at all. So, I had to add salt. The cheese sauce on the mac & cheese was too thick. Thankfully the bacon helped provide some flavor. The brussel sprouts were still very hard and not seasoned. The snickers pie was still frozen. I was barely able to eat it with a fork.

L

We chose to sit on the patio as the restaurant felt a bit crowded. Plus, it was uncharacteristically pleasant outside for a Houston afternoon. Our waitress Gizelle was awesome, understanding & helpful. Food was pretty good...ordered the chicken fried chicken 😋

S
Samaria Herbert

Food was well prepared but everything lacked seasoning. The mussels were fresh but needed salt and pepper. I don't really like hot sauce but they could've used some major flavor. The pasta was cooked well but also lacked flavor. The drinks were good and the service was great but overall, not worth it if you're looking for food with flavor.

a

I prefer the Memorial location over Campbell. The RB pork was one point, the mac n cheese cold and flavorless. Service was slow, very slow we had to ask the bartender for utensils, since we "lost" our server. This was a Sunday afternoon around 130pm.

I looked over the menu online before stopping here to have a nice dinner by myself. I was excited to try the Julio Soup which is supposed to be a jalapeno cream based soup. I also intended to get a grilled chicken sandwich. When I got there, they gave me a menu that did not list these items on there. There was a Soup De Julio, which was described as a poblano cream base, not jalapeno.I still thought maybe it was the same soup. I asked the server if the menu online is different than the one on-site. He said I may have been looking at the lunch menu, but they can still prepare those items for me if I want. So I ordered the Chicken Sandwich and Julio Soup. I asked that no rice be added to the soup. Looks like there is definitely a difference between Julio Soup and Soup De Julio. The server did not mention it when I ordered specifically "Julio Soup" and not Soup de Julio, but I could have communicated what I wanted more clearly as well. The soup had absolutely no spice to it, and also there was rice in it... It was a complete disappointment... The Chicken sandwich was tasty, but I would have expected better for $18.

I seriously thought I was going to have a nice evening and I was in between going back to the Heights or going to Jonathan‘s. I’ve met the owner before and I’m sure he would not have been pleased with what I experienced tonight. I first started going to his restaurant when he was in that very humble beginnings of a little restaurant by the park. I just kept my mouth shut tonight. I mean seriously I get better service at McDonald’s. I purchased a filet mignon that was not as good as what I could get from a bar with a steak night contractor called meat Mojo. The filet was subpar. I patiently waited for someone to come by to refill my glass of water (that never happened). I do not partake in Alcohol consumption or sugary drinks. The server kept trying subtly to push me out the door and get me to pay while I was still eating my dinner which was irritating the heck out of me , there were many other customers watching the World Series so it’s not like I was the only one there. They’re where several other couples there. And he wanted to know twice if I was ready to pay. When it was time to leave, he throws a clear clamshell container at me and wants me to put all my food in it. I did order the broccoli with the blue cheese sauce and I had an order of brussels sprouts and an 8 ounce fillet that I still had 4 ounces left and I’m like you’re not gonna box it up for me ? what ? and I’m thinking like is this McDonald’s? why do I want to mix my blue cheese sauce with the rest of my meal when they do serve it to me separately ? so he brought out another container with a lid on it so I could put my dish in it and not spill it all over my interior of my car ….and get this. I still had to box it myself and I’m like OK I see you really don’t want a Tip do you? I still tip 20% even though the service sucks and the waiters know they give a poor performance/ service. I don’t treat people like waiters treat their guest that they stereotype may not tip ( I know what’s happening) .. I expected a lot more from this restaurant experience tonight. If I had known this, I would’ve went to Ben Berg’s restaurant steak 48 or Savoir on Yale. . Then I’m trying to figure out my bill and all it shows is this one final total amount with tax included and you don’t pay tips on Tax .it did not show an itemized bill and I just did the math in my head for 20% tip. On the pre-tax price which made me spend a little bit more time calculating a really easy bill. Yes, I’m mathematically challenged.. the waiter who checked me out asked me if I enjoyed my meal I said “mehhh it was ok ‘ which he replied. I hope you come back sir and I’m like it’s not gonna happen. I’ll give 30% tip for someone to box up my mail for me put it in the bag for me and I get a smile.. and I can get a better cut of meat over at Ben Berg‘s for the same price. With top notch service. Yes when I go out, I like to get pampered I like to get treated nice I Tip nice I’m nice to the waiters. I don’t treat them like they’re below me. This was my reward night for an exceptional week . It went very well with my new assistant at the office

I have been here 3 or 4 times. This was the worst food that I have had here. The steak was tuff and very salty. There were a lot of wait staff and yet I had to ask them to remove the salad plates. I don't know if I'll ever go back.

We came here for lunch with some colleagues and the atmosphere was great. Really inviting and a good spot to catch up with the team. They also have a great-priced lunch menu, which was a nice surprise. That said, I’m giving it two stars based on the food. I ordered the pork chop and unfortunately, it was so dry I only took two bites. It just didn’t hit the mark. To be fair, everything else about the experience makes me want to give this place another chance. I’ll likely be back to try something different on the menu.

First visit to Jonathan’s…was very under whelming. Hostesses were nice, setting and ambiance were great. We were excited to try a place our neighbors have told us about (and a new location opening soon down the street from us) so we made the drive. Unfortunately it stopped there…food was not up to our expectations: red snapper was rubbery, steak was tough and shrimp was so salty it was inedible. We were clearly disappointed, but our young waitress only knew how to say ‘I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your dinner’. Being that it was my wife’s birthday we kept it positive and I talked to manager: he acknowledged we didn’t eat our food, took steak off tab and apologized. At end of day…tab was $148 not including tip and tax. I think there are 20 other places we could have tried for this night with better/great food, service and equal ambiance, can’t say we will try the new location either.

If I could only put a zero star I would. I invited my husband to dine at Jonathan’s the Rub restaurant at Katy Frwy location because I used to love this restaurant since college.. not anymore. So disappointed because I brag it to him only to feel discriminated. The service was horrible they didn’t feel like sitting us up or even waiting on us- I even told my husband if the server doesn’t come to our table in 5-10 minutes we are leaving. There is one person behind us who was waiting for his party to arrive but it turned out his party changed their minds but the server keep asking him what he likes and if he is ready to order. She Checked on him and other table except us every 2-5 minutes; chatted and laughed with him and so on until he was ready to leave. On the other hand she saw us sitting and looking at the menu and decided what we want to get.. she just glance and just pretend we didn’t exist I guess. she finally came to the table I was hungry so I order the fastest on the menu since it was almost closing. She brought waters without a straw and said nothing but went to the other table and offer them water and straws. She doesn’t talk or check on our table after the food was served. my husband ask again for the straw but I was so thirsty I couldn’t wait- I don’t know if she forgot or something. She finally brought back the straw and didn’t say anything and just took the bill. It was the most unpleasant experience we had. Maybe because we are asian and everyone else was caucasian is that it? I wish this restaurant abundance but I would not recommend or ever come back to this restaurant. To sum this up! If you ever get hungry go somewhere else. I usually don’t leave reviews unless it’s way way unpleasant.

I’m sorry Johnathan’s I love y’all’s restaurant, and I rarely do this. But how does a cook, let a burger like this pass through the hands of a server, then to a customer. I asked for a burger Medium Well… and got a $20 raw beef patty that had been on a grill for maybe 1 minute on each side. Hadn’t eaten all day and was so hyped to get a Johnathan’s burger, I’m just glad I didn’t get the chicken.

Our inexplicably disappointing experience here this evening has left a lasting bad taste in our mouths despite us loving Jonathan’s on Memorial. We’ve always have 5 star service and food there. Thinking this location was a sibling restaurant to that one and upheld the same standards, we decided to check it out. We were mistaken. First off, the fine dining experience you are used to at the other location is a 100% miss here. Don’t waste your time our outfits, please come in tshirts and cargo shorts. Second, the menus is not the same. Many key menu items we are used to being serviced are nowhere to be found on this menu, but rather replaced with many pasta dishes. This is a steakhouse not an Italian restaurant. There is also no black table cloth service or baked bread. You will be sitting at tables identical to the ones at Applebees. The service was nonexistent. Had a staff member loitering one area of the restaurant for the duration of our stay, looking at me like I ran her dog over. But this was noticed among many of the staff, just standing around on their phones, hanging out. If this is going to be an Applebees experience they should charge appropriately. It’s offensive to charge the same as the memorial location with the standard of this establishment set so low. Oh and they had a bowl of fortune cookies at the door. I thought we had mistakenly walked into a Chinese restaurant. It’s the weirdest place. Spend the same amount of money and drive to the other location please. Also our waiter spilled my wine; didn’t utter a word or apology about it. It was also 9:37 and vacuums were being ran, trash bags were being replaced, floors mopped and swept. I’m sorry but I’ve worked at dining establishments and we wouldn’t have dared done these things before closing. Especially when diners are still eating like we were!

This location charges higher prices than the Jonathan rub on navigation do not go!!! Manager has no concern about customers. Also the food they do not taste the same as the one on navigation. I spent 13 dollars on a small mac and cheese and it was horrible

Updating in response to Sam...Yes, the 2nd sweet chili shrimp was ordered because it replaced the ceviche we sent back. My review is addressing the waitress not so much you. I didn't even mentioned how she was to apply a $50 gift card to each bill but instead she applied the $50 without actually deducting it from the bill. My mom had to bring it to her attention. We dine out at least 4-5x per week so we shouldn't have to ask for small things to be done to make our night special nor or we looking for anything free. All we ask for is great food and customer service. Honestly, you seem very remorseful and I will update my star based on that. A group of eight visited for my mom's birthday, but our experience was disappointing. My nephew found a blonde/brown hair in his pasta and while the manager offered to remake it seems like there was attitude from the waitress after that. The house bread bread and garlic bread are okay. The sweet chili shrimp were pretty good. The mac and cheese was dry plus lacking seasoning. We actually ask for a side of fettuccine sauce to put on the mac-n-cheese. The chicken fettuccine lacked seasoning as well. The Caesar salad was really good. After paying, we had to ask about birthday desserts, which the waitress confirmed were available--something she should've offered. Sitting by the kitchen was uncomfortable as there was always 2-3 girls standing there staring while speaking Spanish. After awhile it was awkward and we felt like we didn't have any privacy. Overall, the food and service were less than mediocre, and we do not plan to return.

My husband and I arrived and were seated at a table with a clear view of the kitchen and order station. After 30 minutes of being seated, no staff members had approached our table to offer assistance or take our order, even after making eye contact with kitchen staff. We observed multiple staff members, including individuals in black uniforms, a man in a maroon shirt, and a woman in a green jumper, walk past our table multiple times without acknowledging us. Contrary to our experience, the restaurant appeared to be not busy, though the bar area seemed lively. It was only as we were preparing to leave that a waitress inquired if anyone had helped us, at which point we indicated we had not been served. We noted other tables, specifically mentioning families with lighter skin and less tattoos, being attended to while we were overlooked, which suggested an issue of discriminatory service. The wasted time and poor service, especially on what was intended to be a relaxing occasion, have left us unwilling to return to the restaurant.

Noisy and not a relaxing place to eat. The priority was for 130 burgers for the highschool, ...(looks like the kitchen was crazy...)not for the patrons in the restaurant. The food was made without care to taste, freshness, or asthetic on the plate or seasoning. Why serve salad on a small plate, with the salad falling off onto the table? I had to ask for a bowl to contain it. My husband wound up with food poisoning thinks it was from the free dessert they sent out to "make things right." Never again. Avoid this place at all cost !
