My friends and I came here for our last day in Texas, it was great decision. We wanted some good TX BBQ and this place was it. Michelin star not to mention. I like how the menu is set up to order. my favorite item I ordered was the white queso mac and cheese, my gooooodnessssss!!! I should have ordered some to bring some home !!! The brisket was soooooo good too! We ordered a few drinks our waiter was the bartender too he was super cool and polite , great guy!!! We had the restaurant to ourselves , the establishment is super clean and I nice spacious set up! Great time!! I will return when I make it back to TX!!!
After eating the bao buns the first word that came to my mind was perfect. That word was true for the chicken and waffles too! The service was great too!
I visited with my family (in Jan 2026) and had an awesome experience! The atmosphere was very nice, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding! Our server was Devaughn and he was the most professional, patient and kindest person ever! He made us feel at home. And our chefs behind the scenes Carlos & Felix where spot on, they served us delicious food. Will definitely come back! Great place for a date night, or just a family & friend outing. Thank you all for your amazing service!
Popped in for a bite, best thing on the menu for appetizer...The Pork Belly. The chicken fried steak looked huge, and the waiters were very friendly and informative. Lots of business people out for lunch. Definitely would come back...I didn't understand why people would stand outside Truth Barbeque when you have a Michelin Rated place like this here..loved it! We came back a second time since I wrote this review. My son had the beef rib....Best damn thing ever! The chicken fried chicken amazing, and I had oysters with a Ceasars salad..drinks and again the dessert...our new favorite place. I have told many of my clients to try the place out and they have great feedback.
Came here on Christmas Eve because I’m in town visiting family and friends and got the craving for some good BBQ. Most of the spots I looked up were closed but this spot just so happened to be open as I was passing by, ready to give up on my search. I must say I was thoroughly pleased with my experience. My waiter (I believe his name was Andres or something close, I honestly forget) was great! He was also doubling as the bartender. As it was Christmas Eve, I could tell they weren’t really running at the fullest capacity (I used to work in restaurants so I can tell the little differences), and that’s expected, but I couldn’t really tell any less service-wise. Everyone was super nice and helpful! Cocktails were great, even the mocktail my girlfriend had was awesome. We had the brisket queso as an appetizer and it was AMAZING. We shared a BBQ plate for our entree with brisket, pork belly, and pork rib, and truffle mac and cheese and baked beans on the side. We decided to get an extra jalapeño cheddar sausage because it sounded too good to pass up. Now I have to say, the brisket, while tender, was little dry, and the pork belly was a smidgeon tougher than I’d like. Andres(?) mentioned that the food may have sat under the heating lamp a little longer than expected as they hadn’t called it to be ran quickly enough, so I just chop it up to that and that’s the only reason I give it 4 stars on the food side. That said, everything, and I mean everything, was delicious. That jalapeño sausage is genuinely the best sausage I’ve ever had in my life. Truffle mac was banging, and I’m not even a huge truffle fan like some are. Would absolutely order it all again if given the chance. And we got some carrot cake to go and that was great as well. I warmed up the leftovers (brisket, pork belly, sausage, beans, and mac) this morning as a quick breakfast and MAN, it tasted even better as leftovers. I don’t know how that’s even possible but it was lovely truly. Would definitely recommend anyone to come try this place out for sure!
I travel and I eat. Usually in Texas, BBQ is what I try to get to elevate my experience but decided to change it up and try some well known Southern Comfort Food. I read the reviews and they did not disappoint. I arrived about an hour till close and was seated quickly and the services was extremely friendly. I decided on getting the 24 hour Buttermilk Chicken and it blew my expectations away! The meat was more moist than any I have ever had; the breading was light, crisp, and well seasoned. The sides: the mashed potatoes with country grave were perfection, the okra was just right, but the collard greens were out of this world and the best I have ever had. They definitely lived up to the Michelin recommendation and definitely deserve a star.
From being greeted by the host with a huge smile to the thorough service by Devon, it was an amazing experience. I will dream about that pork belly until the next time. Perfect crisp of a sweet but spicy glaze with a tender center. Onion rings and fried okra had a perfect crisp, jalapeño cornbread was delicous, broccoli cheese risotto was very savory and creamy, bustle sprouts roasted to perfection. Fried chicken was amazing, very crisp yet tender, but some people at our table said it had a spicy kick along with the baked beans, but I call that flavor. Don't forget the peach bread pudding to top it all off! Thank you for a homey feel and amazing food, my family felt very accommodated.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Killen’s of Heights — Absolutely Amazing This place was incredible from start to finish. I started with the wings — perfect appetizer, full of flavor. I ordered the chicken fried chicken (amazing!) while my wife got the fried chicken — crispy, juicy, and seasoned just right. The sides? Mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and greens — all amazing, no misses here. We finished with carrot cake and banana pudding for dessert, and both were packed with flavor. Killen’s is easily the 2nd best restaurant in Houston (Gracie’s still holds the #1 spot for me), but wow — this meal was unforgettable. Highly recommend!
We were in town traveling and wanted to try a local spot. Got stuck behind a 5 mile long freight train on the way so we arrived within an hour of closing and this place was worth the hassle. The service was very good, our server Matt was attentive and informative when it came to our dietary restrictions. I got the brisket, smoked turkey w mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts, everything was delicious. My only gripe was that our food wasn't hot. My sprouts had more heat than the meats. We chalked it up to "indirect heat cooking" 🤷🏿♂️ but either way the next time we're in Houston we'll be back again.
Our first time visit was pretty awesome! The appetizers were the highlight of our meal, we had the pork belly and the Nashville hot wings. We will definitely be back for those. My wife had the Cobb salad, she loved it although she said the ranch tasted bland. I had fried okra and fried chicken. The okra wasn't seasoned but the texture was good. My buttermilk fried chicken kind of let me down, it to lacked seasoning and I could still taste the buttermilk, I just wasn't a fan. Oh and my bread pudding was delicious! The atmosphere was fine, the staff was friendly and there was plenty of parking.
Came here on a whim and it did not disappoint. My waiter Devaughn was VERY attentive and very helpful with questions about the menu. He greeted me with a smile and met any needs that I had. I didn't like that he was the only one really doing anything in the restaurant. But it wasn't busy at all. He kept my glass full. He definitely earned his tip. 🙌🏻🙌🏻 As my appetizer I ordered the deviled eggs with the caviar on top. I also ordered a 2 meat plate, with brisket and sides of tator salad and cream corn. I also got an extra side of collard greens. The deviled eggs were so freaking good. Especially with the caviar on top. Never had it that way. But so worth it. 🥚😋🤤 The brisket was very flavorful, a lil dry, but the BBQ sauce you get makes it so good. Definitely delicious. 😚😚 (Devaughn got me some bread upon request) Tator salad tasted a lil different as they used red tators. And they added bits of pork. I definitely recommend this side.😉😉 The cream corn was OMG, to die for. Very superb compared to other places I've tried. 🤤🤤🤤 Collard greens were okay, they were just a lil salty. The juice kind of tasted like the cajun flavored boiled peanuts you get at the gas station. Still worth the try tho. I just can't handle too much sodium. 😬😬😬 The atmosphere seemed a lil "uppity", but it was still very chill and quiet. Restaurant was very clean. I definitely recommend this place. ( I should have got dessert) 😒😒😒🤣
Southern comfort foods meets fine dining. Been here several times for their great tasting BBQ and just had their wholesome and tasty brunch today. Had to leave a review. Honestly, I feel like their BBQ is better than Truth across the street. There’s no line to wait in and plenty of cooked-to-perfection juicy brisket. Plus, they have the big-body beef ribs and gourmet sides and desserts. LOVE that there’s no valet parking and plenty of FREE parking.
OMG!!! Killen's Southern Restaurant on Heights Blvd is the real MVP, serving up crazy-delicious eats that'll make your taste buds do the happy dance. Great customer service, outstanding food, and an amazing staff. The menu is like a party in your mouth, with dishes like Ronnie's 24 Fried Chicken, Mash Potatoes with Gravy, Collard Greens, Twin Bone In Pork Chops with Gravy, Broccoli no and Cheese Risotto, and Peach Bread Pudding - each one a masterclass in culinary wizardry. We left feeling like stuffed turkeys, and we're not even mad about it. 😁
We were here for Sunday brunch. The chicken fried chicken was phenomenal. The accompanying white gravy was delicious. Well worth the calories. The pork belly appetizer was great. We also tried their BBQ platter with our choice of 3 meats. We went with brisket, ribs and sausage. The ribs were tasty and the brisket had great flavour but a touch dry. The Mac and cheese side was to die for. Our rubber arms were talked into dessert which was the warm carrot cake - amazing. It’s the best carrot cake you’ll ever have. Service was attentive and friendly. Shoutout to Matthew who took care of us!
Killen’s offers a fantastic dining experience filled with Southern charm. The staff is exceptionally friendly and provides excellent recommendations, enhancing the overall visit. On a beautiful spring evening, I enjoyed an early dinner that started with deviled eggs—rich and flavorful, with a pork belly topping that added an extra depth of taste. The main course featured their famous fried chicken, perfectly crispy on the outside and incredibly juicy inside. To finish, the warm peach bread pudding delivered a satisfying balance of richness and freshness, rounding out the meal beautifully. For an authentic Southern culinary experience, Killen’s is a must-visit in Houston.
We stopped by Killens for lunch on a Saturday and were really impressed. The place was busy, but we got our food pretty quickly. We started with the wings and Brussels sprouts – the sprouts were amazing, seriously some of the best we've ever had. For the main course, we had the brisket and pork belly. Everything was cooked perfectly, really moist and flavorful. The Heights location has a more modern, slightly upscale vibe compared to the original Pearland spot, which is more rustic. It's definitely a different atmosphere, but still comfortable and inviting. Overall, it was a great lunch and we'd definitely go back.

We visited for brunch. Our server was very soft-spoken and had a strong accent, so he was hard to understand. He wasn't very outgoing. We ordered the shrimp and grits, the enchiladas, and a breakfast sandwich. The sandwich didn't come with any sides, which was odd. The shrimp and grits tasted good but only had 3 shrimp in the whole dish. For $26 it definitely was not worth it! We ordered the creme brulee cheesecake and the peach bread pudding which were both delicious!! It was very loud in the restaurant so it was hard to hear conversations. I would like to try again, but I wouldn't get the shrimp and grits!
If the line at Truth BBQ intimidates you (or if you are bringing the kids along) Killen’s is a good spot. Not sure if it’s Michelin star worthy but the first time my mother and I came we had a big beef rib that was really good. The second time we tried some of their BBQ but was underwhelmed. The sides and the bourbon drinks were good though and the carrot cake was fantastic. Took about 10 minutes to get waited on both times.
Killen’s at The Heights delivers a solid Southern dining experience with well-executed dishes, attentive service, and a bright, open atmosphere. While the food was good, it lacked the wow factor, and for the price, I wouldn’t go out of my way to return. The buttermilk fried chicken is cooked to order, ensuring it’s fresh and hot, with a crispy exterior and juicy meat. However, the seasoning was lacking—no real internal flavor, not salty enough, and overall, a bit bland. While the texture was perfect, it took about 15 minutes to arrive, which is understandable but worth noting. The chicken fried chicken was the better deal. Being boneless made it easier to eat, and it came with more gravy than the buttermilk fried chicken, adding extra richness. If you’re choosing between the two, I’d recommend the chicken fried chicken. The sides stood out—the mashed potatoes and gravy were perfection, with a smooth, buttery texture and excellent seasoning. The Gouda macaroni and cheese was another highlight, super creamy and thick, definitely worth trying. Service was excellent—water glasses were always full, staff was quick and attentive, and the specials were explained well without any pressure to add sides or desserts. The interior has a bright, open-concept layout, making all four sides of the restaurant visible. The rustic wooden design gives it a casual yet polished feel. Parking is plentiful and easy to find, which is a major plus, especially in this area. Overall, Killen’s offers good Southern food with great service and a comfortable setting, but the lack of bold flavors and slightly high prices make it hard to justify a return visit.

Different experience that’s for sure. I’ve never been to a barbecue place where I didn’t see the barbecue beforehand. A few things Saturday 2 PM service restaurant was about half full. Waiter was quick and got an appetizer of pork belly in quickly. It was delicious. Main order was ordered and unfortunately, it took about 30 to 40 minutes before we actually got our plates. Mind you, there was an eight table across the way but again restaurant 50% capacity. My son had the buttermilk chicken. Delicious. My spouse the chicken fried steak also delicious. I opted for the three meat plate to try the barbecue golden triangle. Brisket excellent. Jalapeño sausage good flavor. I’d put it maybe 8 out of 10.. short rib ribs, well, unfortunately, they were drier than beef jerky from the convenience store. I’m not sure what’s going on, but I was a little taken back that they even served it to me like that. Thin dry and you could tell it had been sitting for a bit. First red flag for me on ribs is sauced ribs. Typically not needed and I’m always wondering what you’re covering up. If I want sauce, I’ll put it on there myself. Anyhow, I made a little bit of a mention to the waiter about the ribs while complementing everything else. Evidently there’s a story behind it. I won’t elaborate here. I think that all could be prevented by actually seeing the barbecue before you buy it. Like I said strange concept to begin with. If it weren’t for the ribs, the wait would’ve been tolerable.
Michelin should come back and rethink their reccomendation. It does not have half of what their on line menu has on it. Was suppose to be home favorites and they most of those were gone. The hostess was telling us about great specials that were from Valentine's day a week ago and our waiter had no idea what she was talking about. No need for a reservation restaurant was only a 1/4 full.
Michelin Star??? We got two Cheddar and Jalapeno sausages , brisket with baked beans and Potato Salad. We also got a dessert: Banana Pudding. That all came out to 35.00 (one plate). Let me start by saying I am from Memphis and I heard so much about Texas BBQ and I consistently heard this is the best Houston has to offer. So I came in with high expectations. The food came out in less than 10 minutes. First, the sausage is the best thing on the plate, the first bite was flavorful and juicy BUT, by the halfway point it tasted like a giant Slim Jim. The potato salad, is not GREAT, the ingredients are chopped so finely, even the potato chunks are small, if you looking for old fashioned taste, this is a NO. The Brisket was NOT very Juicy, even though they ASKED us if we wanted Juicy. The Baked Beans had an intense tomato flavor, almost like spaghetti rather than the classic sweet and smokey we all love. Lastly, the Banana Pudding, its not great, not terrible, but it is mostly whipped cream and the cookies were still crispy which is a NONO. All in All, I would say this is just a place to go, if you wanna feel fancy and still have a chance at enjoying your food somewhat. BUT if you want BBQ that is truly satisfying for the price? I say Avoid it.
Me and colleagues were in town for a conference and ate here for dinner one evening. The service was awesome and it was easy to get to with or being right near downtown! The drinks and okra and chips and Queso were so yummy! Our server was awesome so attentive and nice. There was a group of 6 of us and they made sure to remain proactive of our needs. Honestly, the meat could have been better, it was just OK and we all agreed we slightly expected better flavor in the meats. The sides were delicious. I’d probably try another bbq place next time because there are so many in Texas dang are yummy.
