This was our second time coming for breakfast and it was great. I got the breakfast tacos both times and they were really good. My husband got the breakfast torta and said it was great. Parking is a little tight.
Food was absolutely delicious. Tacos were made fast and fast. Tortillas were filled to the brim with pastor and fajitas. Salsas offered were great as well. Definitely recommend stopping by for tacos.
I saw an article in the Chronicle about this place and had to try it. The tacos were really good, especially the pastor. I probably would not order the barbacoa again because it was a bit too fatty for me, but that’s likely a personal preference. Everything else was great and the dining area was very clean and the staff friendly! You can even get margaritas to go!!! 😃
Wow! This was an excellent find while visiting Houston. The food was so good. It was ready within minutes and we enjoyed outside dining. A fantastic casual dining experience!
Delicious tacos. Best barbacoa I’ve had. The fajita is good as well. The pastor was good but there are better. Exquisite homemade guacamole and the margaritas are great.
What a great spot! My husband got the breakfast tacos and pastor tacos and said both were some of the best he's ever had. As a plant based/ vegan eater I had bean and avocado but they also have soyrizo on the menu! They have plenty of lot/street parking, marga, beers, pops, water, etc. everything was super fresh and had house made salsas for the table. Everyone was so nice and they have a gourmet coffee stand inside! I got a delicious espresso beverage and was thankful they had oat milk Would definitely recommend you check them out and we would totally return !
I absolutely loved the atmosphere, I felt like I was stepping into an establishment in Mexico. I grabbed 2 breakfast tacos de papas con chorizo en tortillas de harina and a small agua de Jamaica for $12.99- the portions were well worth that! I really enjoyed their pickled onions and salsa verde as well, 10/10!
Came across this hidden gem in google maps while in the area. After seeing the amount of reviews and actual rating, I had to stop by. Their menu is small which I really like. (Tells me they do a few things very well.) We ordered the taco platter which included 4 tacos al pastor with rice and beans. I also ordered the chicken tacos. I think the pork could use a bit more salt, but it's not to say that they were bad. They were very good with that bit of char el trompo typically gives. The chicken was very flavorful and yet still juicy. We were caught off guard. The salsas were on point and the onions with habanero were spot on. Love that they double up on the corn tortillas. They give generous portions. Only downside is that they have a small parking lot and not very many tables. I will be making another trip to try the barbacoa and fajita. We are officially hooked. 😁 Update: came back after a small hiatus. Decided to drop by on a saturday evening around 630pm. Not many patrons which we actually liked. Service was quick as usual. Food was on point. I don't recall beer being sold on my last visit, but if it was that was a pleasant surprise seeing the beer cooler up front. Fair price as usual. Keep up the good work! ❤
Barbacoa was more greasy than my liking but the fajita taco was great. Great portion size. Get them on corn tortillas. One bad thing - Wait was terrible! I went on Saturday morning and ordered 4 tacos. Nothing complicated and waited over 30 minutes for it. I hope that was a rare occurrence.
My partner and I have been meaning to come to Tio Trompo for a while now but don’t get to this side of town often. We were in the area today and stopped by for lunch - the food was incredible! The vibe and menu reminded me of Mexico City. We got two pastor tacos and a pastor quesadilla - both were absolutely delicious and came out very fast. The restaurant was very clean, with a calm, relaxing atmosphere and kind staff. 100% recommend!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Tio Trompo, and I can confidently say it’s become my new favorite taco spot! This vibrant taco stand transports you straight to Mexico, capturing the essence of street taco stands with its authentic flavors and lively atmosphere. Whenever I can’t hop on a two-hour flight from Houston to Mexico, this is the place I will turn to for a taste of the motherland, a nostalgic, flavorful, and truly reminiscent of the bustling street vendors south of the border. The portions are generous, and every bite is packed with “mucho sabor”, bold, authentic flavors that show the care and effort put into each dish. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Paola and Jonathan, the coffee barista, their warmth and hospitality made the experience even more memorable. The food, the vibe, and the friendly service have definitely won me over. I’ll be returning soon adding this to my “must haves” list. I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re craving genuine Mexican street-style tacos. This spot truly hits the mark for anyone looking for a delicious, flavorful, and authentic Mexican taco experience!
Amazing taco place!! Very authentic tacos you can get them for 3-5$ each and two will definitely fill you up. It’s super cute and has a the vibe of a real taco joint you’d come to in Mexico. I recommend the guacamole its one of my favorites in houston, made super fresh and with limon. They have breakfast tacos and a surprisingly large vegetarian menu as well. If you’re wanting tacos or a quick bite, Tio Trompo is definitely the place to go.
Nut allergy friendly! No issues with anything here that I noticed. Some of the best tacos in Houston! They are a bit pricey but absolutely worth it. I've tried the Pastor, Barbacoa, Fajita, Oriental, and the Samuel here. The Samuel is amazing and my favorite, and I would say the Oriental is a close second, but I've never gone wrong with anything here. I will usually eat 3-4 tacos as a meal. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
Absolutely a favorite breakfast taco place for me!!! Tacos on corn tortillas are spot on. HUGE and full of flavor! The salsas are really good mild and spicy but not just heat, great flavors! The horchata latte was really good and I haven’t seen it offered anywhere else. Loved it. Overall a really nice place! Clean, nice staff and good eats. :).
I was blown away by Tío Trompo! I heard great things about this place from many people and decided to drive up here and be their first customer of the day. The experience was worth the drive as the team was friendly, atmosphere was casual, energy was relaxed, and the food was incredible! The breakfast tacos I had were elite. For those wondering about the tacos themselves…The tacos are cooked in butter along with the eggs. The tacos are generous in their fillings. I ordered three for myself and three for my wife. The tacos were so generous that I was only able to eat two and she was only able to eat one. This place serves Amaya Coffee, thus you can rely on fresh and locally roasted coffee. I strongly recommend everyone give this place a try and definitely know that this place doesn’t compromise on quality.
It’s rare to be able to go to a place and CONSISTENTLY get the best experience of your life taco wise and man, this place has delivered. Not only are their tacos the best but they serve some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. Service is fantastic, facility is always clean and this place is somewhere I look forward to visiting on a weekly basis (bit obsessed)
This is one of my go to happy taco spots. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly, and the owner Ricardo makes taco dreams come true. Whether you are up for an all day breakfast taco, pastor, or barbacoa, you can get that here - along with some delightfully spicy salsas. Additionally, Jonathan makes a solid coffee; an oat milk latte hits the spot!
We didn't like the queso or the bag of chips they served us. The breakfast tacos were made with fresh real honemade tortilla . The tacos just didn't have a lot of flavor. I don't think the salsa was homemade either. The atmosphere was great and very loud. This is not authentic taqueria.
I went to Tio Trompo in Houston after specifically looking for a spot that serves trompo tacos, which are cooked on a vertical rotating spit. According to their website, trompo tacos trace their roots back to Middle Eastern immigrants who settled in Puebla, Mexico after World War I, blending shawarma-style marinated pork with Mexican tortillas and salsas to create what many consider one of the most iconic Mexican dishes today. Tio Trompo has both indoor seating and an outdoor patio. I ordered takeout and brought the tacos home. [TACOS] +Taco Al Pastor (Red Pork Trompo Meat) for $4.00 – I ordered three tacos, all on corn tortillas, each served with two tortillas to prevent ripping. They come topped with onions and cilantro, along with lime and two salsas on the side. The meat was already cut from the trompo when ordered, not freshly cut straight into the tortillas. Each taco was individually wrapped in aluminum foil, which kept them warm, but it made them extremely oily and messy. These tacos are good, but I wish the salsa was spicier. I also wished they served pineapple on the side or on the trompo itself. Still, solid al pastor tacos overall. - 4/5 Overall, Tio Trompo delivers a good version of al pastor tacos and clearly understands the trompo tradition, even if it’s not the pineapple-topped version I was hoping for. I’d come back, but with the hope of bolder salsa and a cleaner execution next time.
