Opinions de Maharaja Bhog Houston
When my friend first suggested this place to me and i read the reviews of Maharaja Bhog, I was a little skeptical because I’ve tried vegetarian Indian thali places in the U.S. before and they often don’t live up to the experience you get back home. But the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt very warm and homely, and we received such a kind welcome. What impressed me the most was the service. The dishes kept coming one after the other with almost no wait time, and everything was served quickly and attentively. The manager in particular stood out - a very kind older gentleman who kept checking in with us, asking if we wanted more food, if we had eaten enough, and encouraging us to try different dishes. It felt very genuine and sweet. Another thing I loved was the variety in the thali. There were so many different dishes to try, and everything was served fresh and hot. Honestly, I have not had such a good vegetarian thali before. A couple of dishes really stood out to me - the eggplant sabzi was unmatched, and the palak chaat was absolutely delicious. I also feel like sometimes people expect restaurants like this to serve very fancy or experimental dishes. But what made this place special to me was the simple, authentic food that truly felt like home cooking. That touch of home is what made the experience stand out. I was surprised to see some reviews saying the place is too pricey or that the food isn’t great. My husband and I truly enjoyed the food and the overall experience. Fun Fact : I voluntarily wrote this review as I was upset about the rating of the place! We had a wonderful time here and will definitely be back.
Must try this place. Amazing. You sit down and they bring everything. Food is outstanding in quality and the experience is worth it. So unique. It's better if you have no food allergies so you can try everything.
Amazing good vegetarian food. Big plate and very Healthy platter. They keep serving food until you say no. Courteous service. All you can eat tummy full and heart full. Must try if you have appetite for yummy food..
Great food, very well curated menu for each day, something for everyone (spicy, Less spicy, Jain, etc.). The food tastes fresh!!! And the uncle is super sweet, he makes sure you have the best experience. He makes me think of my family, hospitality at its best.
I was not as fortunate as Anthony Bourdain who had appotunity to have food cooked by one of the Rajasthan ex-king so I had to satisfy my taste buds with this food which was excellent compared to Veg Thali I had else where. They even packed 'variyali' - Fennel Seeds as mouth freshener! If you are visiting Houston, this is must to do.
Great thali with plenty of Gujarati dishes. About a 20 min wait, but worth it. Excellent service and amazing staff. Pan was billed separately and tasted good. Worth the money.
The food was absolutely amazing. The taste and quality was top notch. I love the “new menu everyday” thing. It is a little pricey, around $30 per person, but the food makes up for it! Overall would recommend to any vegetarians looking for a filling meal!
Absolutely fantastic dining experience at Maharaja Bhog! This is hands-down the best thali I’ve had in Houston. The food tastes just like authentic home-cooked Indian meals — fresh, flavorful, and surprisingly light with no greasy aftertaste that you often get at other Indian restaurants. Every dish in the unlimited thali was perfectly seasoned and felt made with care. The service was outstanding — super attentive, friendly staff who kept checking in and happily refilled our favorites multiple times without any delay. The ambiance is elegant yet welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone craving high-quality, guilt-free Indian vegetarian food. Will definitely be coming back !
One of our favorite vegetarian restaurants here in Houston!!!!! Love all the varieties in their thali plate. Unlimited, tasty and worth the price (around 30$ per head, worth it) and most importantly they serve different dishes as part of their thali every day so you can give a call to their restaurant and listen to their automated menu to see if you want to go on that particular day. Definitely recommend booking reservations because it gets full quickly and it’s relatively small place for such a popular place. Also for few extra dollars they give you a pan at the end!

It was a good experience, but food was not so great. Varieties could have been better for the price charged. Service was good, the hotel needs some cleaning as well. Overall - doesn’t justify the lunch thali price that is charged
This place is good for pure veggie food when ur in mood for it , who love to try authentic thali style. They have good number of options but can improve in variety as we were here multiple times , may love few different options to try . Their serving of chaas for the combination is really good . They serve how much ever we want which makes me best worth for the money. Good one 👍 in houston area.
Delicious Indian cuisine with a wide variety of flavors and textures. I enjoyed every item I tried and highly recommend this to anyone who wants explore the flavors of vegetarian thali cuisine. There was a wide variety of flavors ranging from salty and savory to light and sweet. I would definitely eat here again.
One of a kind experience I would say. I always heard about Indian thalis. This time I experienced with my friends. She recommended me trying something totally new. Well the location and parking was good. Place was clean. They have several cleaners working as soon as a table is empty. The floor needed extra attention I would say. Then the food comes one after another. First they give you this customized plate with 8 small bowls/bati. The. The servers walking with ‘Quad bowl’ walks around and refills your bowls. They go around and refill upon request. They asks customers if they need anything extra. The food was very tasty. Each item was different from the other. They also gave 2 different desserts. The rutis were too good too. One thing i didn’t like was when the other older kids wanted to sit by themselves next to us the manager told them to sit with their mom. I thought that was totally inappropriate. Older kids can have their own space and can sit anywhere as long as they are behaving. And they didn’t go far. They were next to us. Our tables were just not attached. I also think the poeple running the restaurant should smile and greet customers. They had a very stern look and no greetings too. Even the servers didn’t seem warm too. I asked a question about the ingredients and she had no idea. Kept saying it is dessert !!! My Goodness. Nevertheless if you can ignore these then you will enjoy it.
Hands down one of the best meals I've had in Texas. Maharaja bhog offers a premium vegetarian unlimited thali. They have a set menu and you can get any number of servings of all the items in the menu. All items are served at the table. The taste was just amazing - we lost track of the number of times we asked for some of the items because they were addictive. A very tasty and enjoyable meal and totally worth the price. I am still not able to give 5 stars mainly because of their crowd management which could be way better. On weekends the restaurant is extremely crowded which meant we had to wait outside for almost 30 minutes. It wasn't too hot but I can't imagine doing the wait during Texan summer. Given the high weekend crowd this restaurant gets, a waiting area would be great instead of having us stand outside for a long time. This is still understandable and I'm definitely not complaining for not having a waiting room- just a suggestion. What did not make us feel great were the staff. The staff were getting frustrated because of the big crowd and were being rude. While I understand that a huge crowd can be frustrating, it's not a great feeling to have a rude reception staff welcome us. Couple of waiters were also a bit rude and frustrated. Some of them were very sweet to us so big thanks to them. The manager also seemed frustrated. So while Maharaja Bhog scored extremely well in their taste, they did lose a few points from my side for the rude staff.
The lunch thali is good with lot of sides. The service was great and the ambience is normal. A very good vegetarian restaurant who want to try the bigger thalis.

This was my first time here. I haven’t had vegetarian Indian food before so I’m comparing it to meaty Indian food. When you sit there is an empty tray with 8 empty containers. Servers come quickly to fill everything and as you eat they return to fill the things you want to eat. Is all you can eat. 1. There’s a fried battered vegetable that’s topped with a sweet white sauce that was good. There’s 2 types of roti: white flour and whole wheat. I preferred the former. There’s a green and red sauce but I didn’t use it much. There’s also salad. Also a bland rice sponge cake. 2. 8 containers: -Paneer in a butter “chicken” style sauce. My favorite because of the flavors. -potatoes in a yellow curry -3 types of lentils: sweet, salt, sour -sweet milk with rice. I really liked this and treated it as dessert. -2 other things I forgot what they were 3. A buttermilk drink. It was too funky for me. Overall a great option for vegetarians and vegans, but not for me. I found it too bland with mild flavors.
While the restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and good service, the food is a bit short of flavour for me. Many dishes lean towards being bland, lacking the depth and flavour you would expect from authentic Indian cuisine. Some savoury dishes have an expected sweetness that overpowers their intended flavours. While it is not a bad meal overall, the flavour balance could use improvement to elevate the dining experience.

The ambience was good but there was a lot of chaos in the restaurant. Food was good but would not say WoW as compared to other thali experiences I have had and especially in Maharaja Bhog in Mumbai…
We dined in on Saturday night and tried a variety of items. The appetizers included Dahi Bhalla, Dhokla, and potato pattice. For dessert, we had Rabdi and Jalebi. The main spread consisted of their standard offerings: dal, kadhi, potato sabji, chole, paneer sabji, and undhiyu. I am always impressed by the service and speed—both are consistently excellent. However, after spending $33.50 per person including gratuity, we left feeling deeply disappointed. While the food was served fresh, it lacked flavor across the board. The overall taste was not just basic but felt low to mid-grade. The potato pattice, in particular, was a major letdown—it was overloaded with cornstarch, rubbery on the inside, and completely lacking in taste. The mild thali flavors seemed to rely heavily on canned tomato puree, which took away from any depth. The undhiyu was also unevenly cooked, with disproportionate textures. For a restaurant known for authentic Gujarati cuisine, the menu felt overly ordinary. Dishes like potato sabji, chole, and paneer are everyday household foods, and for a place like this, we expected more exotic and traditional Gujarati preparations—especially when compared to restaurants like Maharaj Bhog that truly showcase the richness of the cuisine. Additionally, the restroom was very poorly maintained and had an unpleasant odor, which further added to the negative experience. Overall, it was disappointing to say the least. With their reputation, they could absolutely elevate the experience by offering more distinctive, traditional Gujarati dishes and improving basic upkeep.
Unlimited thali place, but quite heavy on the pocket for the quality and taste offered. The food feels more focused on quantity than flavor. None of the dishes met expectations especially the vegetables, which lacked flavor and felt more like fillers than well-prepared items. The menu combinations felt poorly thought out. Serving paneer, kadhi, dahi bhalla, basundi, and buttermilk together made the meal feel heavy and uncomfortable, which was disappointing for a place representing a traditional Indian thali. Seating is very cramped, with tables placed extremely close to each other, offering no privacy and making it feel like you’re sitting with the neighboring family. The staff and manager were polite and attentive, but the serving team seemed unsure about the sequence and timing of dishes, which made the service feel unorganized. Overall, the experience was not worth the price considering the food quality and overall setup.
The good news is the meal is all vegetarian. You can ask for vegan, gluten free, nut free options. The food tastes mediocre. The reviews are hyped, I will agree this is an all you can eat at the table. Except for the paneer side all others were bland and below average. I like rotis, so I had that twice. Chas (buttermilk drink) was good.. The so called kichadi tasted like an unseasoned pongal. Pulav was about average. As far as the sides gravy with besan dumplings, potato sagu, Daal, kadi were below average. Bindi Curry was soggy and then the other Daal was watered down and too sweet. Shirkand was too sweet for me.. Halwa was quite dry.. There was another serving of what I think was Daal batti, was a disaster.. It costs $30 per person and does not justify the cost. It is ok to indulge once.. as my spouse states 'you need to dine out once in a while to appreciate the home food'. Now I crave for the homely meal. We have done our trip to MB, so I could write my feedback. Seating, serving, and how quickly they refill is a good team work. Kudos to the staff!! Well organized.

Before covid the food choices, variation, n taste was very good. Now every thing is low n the price is high. Not good value for money. Will never go to this place again.
We have been regular customers for a long time, and this has always been my daughter’s favorite place to eat. Unfortunately, over recent visits, we have noticed a consistent decline in both food quality and service. In addition, the behavior of a gentleman who often wears a suit has made our dining experience uncomfortable. He repeatedly appears to monitor guests and seems to pressure diners to finish quickly. On several occasions, it felt as though normal conversation at the table was being discouraged. When choosing a sit-down buffet and paying a premium price, we expect to enjoy our meal at a comfortable pace and in a relaxed environment. We value the experience as much as the food itself, and recently that experience has not met the standards we previously appreciated. We hope this feedback is taken constructively, as we would like to continue visiting and recommending your restaurant, provided these concerns are addressed.
Disgusting, horrible, tasteless food. Not a single curry out of the 10 was good. The food is sweet with no spice at all. Genuine disappointment in every item. Only give poori and roti and rice. Rice was cold. Scam of a restaurant shame on them for serving such bad food with terrible service. Never have had this bad Indian food. My whole family left without eating anything. This place does not even deserve 1 star.
Wow, I normally don’t do reviews but utter buckwass this food was and the service was even worse. My family had gotten their renown thali and the food lacked much substance and flavor. Their service was not true to what I have seen in these reviews as I am left hungrier than before I came into the store and extremely disatisfied. Please understand before you enter the store the value of your money and to place it into restaurants who do wish to serve you properly and would like to put heart into their food as a passion, not for money. Terrible 👎
Genuinely biggest scam of a restaurant very overpriced for the disgusting food they are giving. If you are south indian avoid since there is no spice or even decent flavor to the food. They are calling this PREMIUM restaurant but it's so beyond horrible. My spoons were not properly washed and service is horrible. No spice or flavoring in the food and workers don't give lots of food quantity. The food itself is mediocre since there is NO taste at all whatsoever. All the curries are sweeet and watery and gross. My entire family left without eating most of the terrible food. I would never reccomend this garbage to anyone. The Lady at front of restaurant said she would charge children price when we specifically asked and then claimed that it was only for children under 10 Years old When given the bill. So disappointed in every food item given and it kept getting worse and worse throughout the time we were there. Added pan without telling us there was a charge for it. The management is poor and tried to rush Us into leaving when we are still trying to eat the overpriced, disgusting curries and roties. Was around 200 for 6 people and we didn’t eat 95% if food on the plate. If i could rate this negative stars I would.
Maharaja Bhog used to be a genuinely great restaurant, but whatever made it special is completely gone now. • You’re greeted by a guy whose attitude is so bad it feels like he’s doing you a favor just by letting you walk in. • They serve one round of food and then basically vanish. You sit there waiting endlessly for a simple refill while the staff pretends you don’t exist. At some point you just give up out of frustration. • The food is average at best — nothing to complain about, but absolutely nothing to praise. For a place that once had top-tier quality, this is a huge downgrade. This used to be my guaranteed stop on every Houston trip. After this experience, I can confidently say this was my last visit. Maharaja Bhog has completely fallen off, and I won’t be wasting my time or money here again.

Houston's Maharaja Bhog: Thali Dining Fit for Royalty
Hey Houston, let me tell you about a spot that's truly redefined my Indian dining experience: Maharaja Bhog. Nestled here in our city, it’s a place that consistently delivers an experience that feels both authentic and incredibly special. What immediately stands out is their embrace of the thali concept – a time-honored tradition and, frankly, the oldest form of vegetarian Indian dining. It's not just a meal; it's a spread, a culinary journey presented on a single platter with an array of smal
