Opinions de Mary'z Houston
This is our favorite Mediterranean restaurant in Houston. Best hummus, bread, and hookah! We love sitting out on the patio that has accommodations for the cold and hot months. Note - not for a quick meal as it does take a while to get your food & your check. The set up is for you to take time to enjoy your company and your meal.
This place is fantastic!!! The vibe is modern, relaxed, and nice/casual. I had a mix of the shawarma plate with baba ganoush, hummus, and seasoned, grilled potatoes. Delicious!
The only reason for 4 stars on service is that they close a bit earlier than you’d expect for a place that offers hookahs. I think they would kill it if they closed the kitchen after 10, downsize staff, but keep the bar open for drinks and hookahs and maybe hand-food (tapas basically). Their food is absolutely delicious and the service from the people is fantastic! Another recommendation is to get rid of the “fancy”-looking hookahs and replace them all with Khalil Mamoon. That brand smokes the best and would raise their quality/experience significantly. But overall, wonderful place!
One of my favorite restaurants, the food is 100% fresh and delicious each time. I highly recommend to all my friends, great place to meet, enjoy your friends with fabulous healthy food. 100%
Very relaxing spot... Good outdoor patio... smooth hookah... I go with the blueberry mint... staff is very attentive... the beef skewers are very well prepared... amazing (homemade?) vanilla ice-cream... it's good... A-plus place to chill out with a couple of friends...
Can't speak much to the service since I didn't dine in but got take out, but omg let me tell you this is some of the best Mediterranean food I've had in a while! I ordered the chicken kabob sandwich (was in a wrap) the yogurt with cucumber and Greek salad and all of it was amazing! You can tell they took the time to plate it well (even if it was in Togo containers) and also was very flavorful and not soggy with sauce. The fresh pita I got as well was amazing. 10/10 would def go again
Came here on my lunch break and shared a hookah, hookah was tasty I got the lemon mint and at one point had to have it checked because smoke was barely coming out and the guy in charge of the hookas took care of it right away, can’t say much about the food but my coworker said the sausage entree was mid, I’d definitely would come back during my lunch again
I truly enjoy their mixed grill, and the waitstaff consistently provides excellent service. While the shisha may not be their strongest offering, I find everything else to be wonderful.
Mary'z has a friendly albeit understaffed crew, that is extremely helpful, but can be slow being stretched too thinly. Everything we had was delicious and fairly priced. The portions can be very large for the cost. They had the best Texas Quail I've had in the state, very tender, well seasoned and beautifully charred. Some staples like the Hummus were a little underwhelming, and the patio needed a little extra cleaning attention (they do hookah outdoors, so there is a lot of ash on the ground). But we will be back.
This place need to be close . Not a very busy place and not a big place. Average food quality but its ok if you consider the price . Their Hukkah is $14 for regular head. Close early with not too many people. I would not not recommend this place but if you lived close than it’s up to you . Our waiter Milan was superb. But overall you will not enjoy here . They start closing an hour before their closing times and force you to leave .
My first time and Last time! I’ve never waited so long for service. Just for a water……. I was seated waited 20 mins and timed. No one came to great me or anything. 3 other couples came in and was seated and even got their drinks and hookah before me. Also the couples were a different …. Nevermind it’s terrible at the location on Washington AVe. Okay ByE!
Mary’z Mediterranean claims a full-service bar, but what they actually serve is disrespect, favoritism, and sweltering Houston heat. I asked for a Dark & Stormy and rosé—both were “unavailable”—while other guests the staff knew got rosé without issue. The Citrus Splash tasted like disinfectant, the Pinot Noir was mediocre, and the Mixed Shawarma was just okay. Air conditioning is nonexistent, so we had to sit outside in Houston heat. I lost my appetite, and if it weren’t for the mandatory large-group auto-tip, the server wouldn’t get a dime.
The food was delivered cold, stale, and the meat was hard and tasted old. The cauliflower tasted like it was cooked two days ago and the reheated in a microwave. Tonight’s meal was $50+ dollars (no joke) for the small amount of food you can see in the picture. Way too much money for such bad food and in such small proportions. We have visited here a few times in the past and they are always understaffed and overpriced with bad service. Tonight’s door dash order was kind of our last straw. I called them and they promised a free appetizer when I come to visit next… riiiight. The staff is always friendly, but they just don’t have it together. They are a restaurant that I want to like so much, but can’t.
5 stars for the location, vibe and how clean the restaurant is. No stars for the food; the prices do not match the taste nor how much food you get. You can't even add any leafy greens to the pitas. The size of the pita is absolutely unacceptable. Isn't Mediterranean cuisine based in leafy greens? I couldn't add anything to the pita. The hummus tasted like nothing, or as if it's a powder and they added water...far from the homemade taste I'm use to. The Grape Leaves were terrible. I didn't know that was possible. I've had Grape Leaves from a can that taste better than these. I can't comment on the salad nor the other sandwich because that was my cousin's food. I'd rather spend almost $100 at Cava, I would get way more food and it would taste better. I firmly believe Mary's Mediterranean is paying someone off for the awards they so graciously display. $7 for a frozen drink when the menu clearly says fresh juice is not the mid blowing part...but the size of it is... I understand and respect inflation... however this was beyond disappointing.
