Opinions de Mario's Italian Cafe Indio
The food was excellent and inexpensive. It's hard to believe they can make money at these prices. I had the seafood manicotti, an unusual find. Our waitress was friendly though a bit inattentive despite the lack of customers on this quiet week night. Beer and wine available by the bottle, glass or carafe depending on what you want.
Best authentic family-recipe Italian cuisine ive had in a very very long time with the freshest ingredients to boot. As I type this I am fading in and out of a "food coma" brought on by their amazing Baked Lasagna and Garlic Bread. To top it off the servers were very personable and the food was on the table unbelievably fast. If you love Italian food and u visit Indio.........u MUST eat at Mario's!!!!
Not the largest wine glass ever but definitely the biggest pour! Not a bad selection either and tons of options to pair it with.
Holy cow! I’m a Texan and thought “Everything’s bigger in Texas”, but this place proved me wrong. Their portions are HUGE; you definitely get what you pay for (and a little more). Fiancé brought me here while seeing friends and family in the area, and I was so impressed with how delicious everything was. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well! I wish we had a place like this back home, but I don’t think this place can be replicated. Keep up the great job!
Was getting a tire fixed next door. I've lived in the Coachella Valley for years but had never been. I had seen the commercials and decided to give it a try. Got the hot Pastrami and an extra spicy bloody Mary. The pastrami sandwich was excellent and the bloody Mary got me sweating. I'd definitely go back, whether I'm getting my tire fixed or not. 👍
We celebrated our 60th anniversary at Mario’s while visiting the Palm Desert region. The service and dinner was well beyond our expectations. Thank You Mario’s for making our day wonderful.
We got take out - Puttanesca, Chicken Parm and a turkey sandwich. All were delicious! Thank you!
Love this place... but plan on taking food home with you. The servings are huge. Great selection and really good prices and a really friendly staff. All in all... well worth frequenting this place
Our favorite family dinner spot Diego Ortega is wonderful to have at the front we have a large family and he always has a place for us with out the wait and makes sure we get our drinks right away. Definitely an asset to the restaurant. Good job Mario's another amazing family dinner!!!!
One of the best Italian places here in the desert. There are drink specials and every order is made fresh. The chicken fettuccine alfredo is one of the local favorites, however, you will be pleasantly surprised to have the veal or any other pasta dish. They have a weekly special of a slice of pizza for less than a gallon of milk. I highly recommend this Mario's, the other locations are just as great in quality of food but I have noticed this particular location has the friendliest staff.
My favorite Italian in the valley. Great staff and always delicious food. The happy hour helps ;)
I love authentic Italian food, and this place was amazing. The dish I had was so delicious! Also the servers are very friendly. I will definitely go back there every time I visit Indio, CA.
We have been here numerous times and have NEVER been disappointed! A must is the ceviche Thursday, Friday and Saturday . Have tried a variety of dishes and all have exceeded expectations. Highly recommend this restaurant ! Staff is always friendly and courteous .
Hands down some of best Italian dishes anywhere in the valley
This place slaps. Mom's favorite Italian joint. Love you Mom.
Our ladies group meet here for lunch 7.20.2021 and we not only had exceptional food but the service was above and beyond anything we had expected or had received elsewhere. We had two birthdays in our group and they gave us an extra table for our cake and gifts and even provided take out dishes for our leftover cake.. 😃 I would give them 10 stars is I could.
Their food is delicious. Everything we've ordered at each of our visits over the last few months (about 4 or 5 visits) has been delicious. Some of their entrees can even feed 2 people. Their "Cheese Bread" is incredible!
Ordered chicken alfredo and chicken Caesar salad and for a bowl of noodles(no chicken or sauce) and a bowl of lettuce and croutons(no chicken, chez or salad dressing). Called in and the lady was the rudest person I ever met and insisted on lying to me saying there's no manager at her store. Then said I can call back in the morning to talk to someone.....I'll never go in or order from this location ever again. Worst marios cafe location ever......<UPDATE> Ty to the owner Betsy who made sure the issue was taken care of and I was taken care of. The remake of the food was awesome and I'm happy to have met Betsy in the store. Very nice and friendly. Ty Betsy
We were just passing through and wanted pizza, google and Mario's popped so we ordered Togo, to me the most important is the dough and sauce and cheese you can have premium topping and bland sauce and you have bad pizza, We ordered the Mario's special it was primo the crust was done perfect the sauce delicious the cheese just right. And just the right amount of topping ,the service was as expected, it does take a little time to make pizza, maybe waited 20min, my favorite topping is anchovies but not with my wife, definitely will be back
I cannot tell you what a wonderful time and experience my group had at Mario's Cafe tonight. Our server Nancy made our trip. Just read of all the wonderful charity work they do. I wish this business all the carma they deserve. Until next time. Pat Sandra, sandy and Stephen.
Been here a couple of times so I guess that says it better than a lot of fluff. Our friends even suggested it, so yeah, it's worth going to. Friendly staff, portion sizes that are not stupid, and not so loud that you can't have a conversation around the table. Yep, we'll be back.
My friend and I had dinner and drinks at Mario's and everything was wonderful! The food was delicious, the ambiance was great and very upbeat, and the service was first class. Loved everything about the evening, and we will be back again soon!
Happened to be there on Mario’s Birthday this year which also is my Birthday! Great time , great food , great people! And let’s not forget about the great cake !
Used the recommendations online and tried Mario's on Hwy111 and was not disappointed! Had the chicken piccata and chicken marsala, they were delicious! Place was clean, prices were reasonable and staff was friendly! Definitely will return, when in this area. Thank you!
Mario’s is right around the corner from my home. Good solid cuisine that never disappoints. Generous portions. Always an easy go-to. What I think really makes the restaurant great is the service.
My family and I recently ordered from their catering menu for my son’s birthday. We got 1 full pan of Chicken Alfredo, Penne with Meat Sauce, and their House Salad. Everything was delicious and the portions were so generous! Our guests enjoyed the food and kept coming back for seconds. We were very pleased with the service. Best part was they deliver for a small fee. We will recommend to our friends and family for future events.
GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE, AUTHENTIC ITALIAN Waitress: Vanessa!! Thank you Vanessa for the laughs, wonderful service, keeping our wine glasses filled, and remembering us from visit to visit. You ROCK! Menu: Great and varied choices. If you like "made like mama's" authentic food, this place is for you! Everything is cooked to perfection. A Personal Favorite: Chopped antipasto salad (no mushrooms!) And I have to add the $5 (up to the top of the glass,) house Chianti. Can't go wrong with this choice....
Came here for quick bite to eat before heading to Stagecoach. The smell of delicious Italian food hit you once you walked in. Service was awesome and the food was even better. Our new spot for food before we go the venue.
Excellent service and supper here. The pizza and ceasar salad were delicious. Pizza crust was crispy and not greasy at all. The Portions are big and the glasses of wine for $5 were huge!! The service from Vanessa was OUTSTANDING, she is one of the reasons why we were recommended to come to Marios, and we were lucky to have her service. We can’t wait to return. Thank you for amazing service and delicious food.
Outstanding food will definitely go here again
Stopped on our way thru town and had a very pleasant lunch with my mom. The food was delicious and the portion sizes generous! That $5 glass of wine was FULL to the brim! The restaurant was clean and the service great. I will be happy to come back if we're in town again one day.
The waitress was very on point, she made sure we were happy with our order and she made sure our food was served just as ordered! Love Mario's all their menu dishes are excellent and very delicious! I highly recommend it!! A+
If you are looking for the family owned Italian restaurant of your memory, this is it. Decor old enough to be vintage, waitresses who have been with them for years, recipes consistent with the original ones... it's a step back in time. I had the lasagna and a salad. Generous portions, loads of cheese. Good experience
Great place! Great food, portions and service. Just stopped to grab dinner on our way to AZ. The Chicken Marsala was so tasty! Thank you!!
This is our go-to Italian in the desert! The Alfredo and garlic bread are amazing, and we love going for the pizza special on Tuesdays. You have to get the biggest glass ‘o wine in the valley 🍷 🍝 Staff is friendly, too!
We were so pleased with Mario’s and highly recommend it. While visiting from Arizona we happened upon a Mario’s. Jumbo Alfredo was very delicious. The bruschetta was to die for. Service is very attentive and decor feels dedicated to small town mom and pop im Italy. We would definitely go again next time we’re passing through.
I had the lobster and crab cannelloni on fettuccine alfredo w/their amazing $5 glass wine (cabernet sauvignon), completed by a most delicious dessert of tiramisu...and it was all incredibly sublime. It's been about 25 years+ since I have been to Mario's, and now I regret waiting so long. The food is made to absolute perfection, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. Overall a complete A+ Italian dinning experience.
Italian music... checked! Italian vibe... checked! Italian food... YES! First time in this place, and it won't be the last. The salad was good, the garlic bread was amazing! The chicken alfredo, although a little runny, was good. The pasta was al dente and not overdone. The sauce was tasty and with parmesean cheese added it was good. The staff was friendly and attentive. A good place to bring a date with the wine specials and dimmed lights...check them out!
Mario's is the best! Great food, specials and that tall glass of wine! He also gives back a lot to the community. Try the pizza and salad lunch specials. So good!
Stopped by for pizza and it was delicious. They have a lot of options and I'm looking forward to our next visit so I can try different items from their menu. A must try!
I love this place! I also love the $5 glass of wine where I can sit and just relax for an hour, and the staff members are wonderful.
Beyond the best Italian restaurant in Indio. $5 glass of Burgundy wine and baked lasagna with minestrone soup! The best dinner meal Combination ever ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dinner was absolutely delicious. Had the Chicken Alfredo over Fettuccine and my sister had the Chicken Milanese. For desert had the in house made tiramisu. Service was great and atmosphere. Thank you.
Took a while to be noticed & get menus. Service ok but donner fabulous! Huge serving too!
I was visiting Indio to see some family. We decided to eat at Mario’s.. from the moment we walked in, we felt at home. The friendliness of the staff, the ambience and the cleanliness of this place was the best first impression I’ve gotten from any restaurant. I ordered the chicken piccata. And the flavor and the seasonings were the only word I can use to describe is perfection. I highly recommend if you want great food with the friendly staff and a great ambience you should definitely go to Mario’s. And I even got to meet the owner Betsy she was so kind and hands-on. You can tell that the staff really enjoyed working there.
The food was great and plentiful. The service was attentive and friendly
AMAZING! From our incredible server Vanessa, to the kitchen staff, to the insanely delicious food! AMAZING! They accommodated our food allergies with kindness & wonderful options. We will make this a place we stop, each time we come through Indio for sure!

I had the St.Louis Ribs it was GREAT! my son had the spaghetti in marinara sauce. Sadly the sauce didn't have a good taste. It was very bland. Other than that they've always served us good food.
Traditional Italian fare in casual setting on hey 111 in Indio. Good garlic bread, and pastas. Lasagna is popular, the ravioli and spaghetti is good, the pesto was lacking and essentially a bowl of linguine in a pool of olive oil. Big glasses of wine are a draw here, with average food to follow.
Just to be clear. I have never eaten at this restaurant but I am a delivery driver for such platforms as GrubHub, ubereats, Postmates etc., but the service from the employees are very welcoming. I always have a good experience when picking up orders from this restaurant. I also see The Smiling Faces from the people sitting outside of the restaurant enjoying the food.
We aren’t sure why Mario’s only has 3 stars on Yelp. The pizza and pasta were delicious with generous servings and no wait. Prices are more than reasonable. The desserts are scrumptious! I had cannoli and my husband had the spumoni. The wait staff works as a team so the service was excellent.
I really liked the pizza but beware. I paid $26 for a 10 inch pizza with two toppings. Otherwise it was fine.
Thursday evening 6:45pm. My first time to eat here. Hostess couldn't care less, ice cold, she's probably having a bad day. Hostess took my drink order brought it to the table. About 15 minutes later I get to meet my waitress and she to has the same demeanor as hostess. While waiting for my food 10 minutes, I had to remind waitress I ordered an ice water. Food arrives, waitress slides the dish in front of me without a single word spins around and walks away. SMH I had the Baked Mostaccioli and a glass of Burgundy wine. My food was delicious! 👏 Complements to the chef 👏 I looked around the restaurant and observed 2 other waitresses smiling when they interacted with their customers, I envied those customers 😄 I'll probably go back because I really enjoy Italian food and this place has a large menu with a lot of variety.
It's normal Italian fare. Warm comfort food for the price. 4 of us enjoyed our food except for one whose chicken Alfredo was missing most of the chicken. For better fair I would go to the restaurant on 111 in Palm Desert where they have singing wait staff. Name escapes me
Big portions and delicious food. Definitely coming back if on Indio again
Food is reliably good. The only thing I've been disappointed by is I recently tried their calzone and they used Thai Basil in it. I hate the taste of licorice and the thai basil made it taste like I was eating a licorice calzone. 🤢
I recently dined at Mario's Italian Cafe when I visited my family in Indio California. It was my first time eating dinner at this location. We all had a very pleasant experience. We were greeted with a smile. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Our food was very tasty, plentiful and hot. I enjoy drinking wine with dinner. Mario's offers $5.00 glasses of wine. Happy Hour is $4.00 a glass until 5:30pm. We did not feel rushed. The restaurant was full. I noticed many carry out orders as well. The music was enjoyable. There are also several TV's in the restaurant. There is plenty of free parking available. I recommend Mario's Italian Cafe in Indio and look forward to returning on my next visit to California. Our table ordered calamari (not pictured) as an appetizer. We all agreed it tasted great!
Mario's is definitely a place that has it's regulars in Indio, and it's for good reason. The food is really good and the atmosphere is very comfortable. The traditional Italian dishes are very good here, and surprisingly the hot wings are very good as well. This place is nice for a romantic dinner, or lunch with the family.

Food is always consistently great! Service yesterday was the worst ever!! Seriously did the two waitresses even acknowledge us, give us menus, take our order, smile or ask about us at all!?!?
My review only encompasses their Pizza. Was expecting a pretty decent Pizza since I saw a good reviews on all other Italian items. What I ended up getting was a pepperoni pizza that had way too much grease and then a barbecue chicken pizza which seems like it had are you ladle of Crock-Pot barbecue chicken poured on top of it. Legit I probably should have needed a straw to eat that pizza from all the moisture coming off of it. All I have to say is if you go here, do not go for the pizza. I definitely want to come back and try other items on the menu and update my review when I do. Update: haven't gone back yet, but updated from a 1 star to a 3 star based on the excellent owner response to my review. I have learned that eating out isn't just about the food, it's the people. Hope to visit again soon!
Lasagna was greasy and so bland compared to previous visits. My wifes chicken picatta had hardly any sauce. I usually sing praises for this company but this one in indio was disappointing
Normally I would give this place a higher rating -- the food is amazing. On this visit, however, our service was horrible. We came with a large group (restaurant was notified hours before our arrival). I ordered 3rd out of 30 people, and was the LAST to receive my food. My order was spaghetti, so not difficult. Insult to injury, the guy beside me ordered same item and his was the last order taken, yet he was served before me. When we asked Erin(our waitress), she said "well we only have 2 cooks and that's the way it came up". Love the food but will never go back to this location.
My chicken was pounded too thing and was tough. Not much flavor (chicken parm). Service was good. But they started their nightly cleaning of washing off the tables while we still eating, and they used a very strong disinfectant. Made for an unpleasant experience.
Dated decor lots of plastic plants. When you walk in you are ignored. The whole time we were there the manager leaned on a desk close to the kitchen. Wine prices are low for large servings. Ceasar salad was good. Pasta meals lacked seasoning. Bill was presented before table was cleared and no desert offered.
I went there for lunch. It appeared that they were short staff because it took a while for them to bring water to the table. I ordered the pizza lunch special . I received my salad and garlic bread before my pizza. The garlic bread was cold, and I had to send it back three times, and each time, the garlic bread came back cold. The garlic bread was not so good, salad was ok. However, the pizza was really good.
Dined here about a year ago and it was so good we ate there twice on our last trip but this time not so great for some reason. The same great glass of Chianti but have had better meatballs and better Marinara Sauce . It just didn’t taste that good . Better luck next time maybe
This was our first time ordering from Mario's Italian Cafe in Indio. I have to admit that it was an underwhelming experience for my husband and I (however, our children liked it). We ordered two pizzas: the Vegetarian Special and the Margarita. I have to say that the most disappointing part to me was that there was a significant inconsistency between the two pizzas. The vegetarian was wonderfully well-dressed with toppings. The margarita, on the other hand, had large portions of uncovered crust spots with no cheese. The crusts were dense, on the dry side and had a lot of loose flour on the bottom, which coated the bottom lip. Our son and I liked the vegetarian the best of the two (but definitely not better than pizzas from other establishments), my husband didn't like either, and our daughters liked the margarita. I didn't think to take photos until after some slices had been taken, but think they still illustrate part of my description. I had hoped for a better experience at $23 per 14 inch pizza. I will say that just because the experience at the Indio location wasn't fantastic, it doesn't mean that we will feel that way about all locations. I have preferred locations of restaurants with multiple locations and am hoping that we will like another location better. I haven't given up yet.

Decent food with large portions so arrive hungry. Enjoyed the spaghetti with marinara sauce and 1 large meatball, garlic toast and side salad. Service was excellent....will return.

I came here cause I was told I have to try the pizza. The sourdough bread was awesome, salad awesome. But the pizza dough was raw up to 3 inches around the center. And we waited 20 minutes which I'm not to mad about other then the pizza was still undercooked(rather wait longer and have it taste good. Toppings were on point as well as the sauce but the pizza being super undercooked was disappointing. Little ceasers is better
The first time we ordered pizza, it was AMAZING. the second time we ordered pasta... it was OK. The third time we ordered pizza again.... the dough was burned with chunks of coal on it. For some reason the cheese just fell off the pizza when we tried to eat... it was a Mess...I wish it was as good as the first time but it wasn't.
I haven’t been this disappointed by a meal in a really long time. Mac n cheese from a box tasted twice as good, and the vegetables in the minestrone soup were mush. The service was good though.
Went for the lunch special salad was alright pizza had a good amount of cheese but the sauce and crust were garbage
Mario's used to be our go to restaurant. Linguine with clam sauce, veal parmigiana, chopped antipasto salad and the weekly prime rib were consistent and amazing. However lately we have found the service staff to be quite lacking, to the point to being rude and sarcastic last night. My prime rib was 40% large chunk of fat, potato cold and undercooked. The waitress was so rude and sarcastic I did not dare bring up our disappointment with the prime rib dinner. We may go back to a different location (other than Indio, Hwy 111) but certainly avoid prime rib. Sad, used to be our #1 go to restaurant
I ordered a half order of Chinese chicken salad to go. Usually the salad has a good helping of dressing on it, but for some reason my salad was very bland. Are you cutting back on your recipes since the economy is taking its toll on everyday life ?
Shrimp scampi with breaded!!! shrimp and too much oil and burnt garlic. Just awful. Veal parmigiana was absolutely swimming in meat sauce and not in a good way. Would not return

Food was unfortunately awful and service wasn’t much better. A simple caprese salad should just consist of 3 ingredients basil, mozzarella and tomato not difficult. I could go on about the other bad meals but I would b here all day. Please avoid!!!!!
We had reservations so we were seated very quickly. But the service was horrible we had to wave down our server a few times. It took what seemed forever to get our food. Their server apologized she mentioned they were short handed that evening. After waiting so long the food wasn’t so great.
Was our family’s favorite Sunday Dinner For the past 4yrs. Sadly the host/cashier disappointed my family and myself very rude, impatient , horrible experience tried calling and asking for manager hanged up 3x. So sad.
my family and I arrived at 8:45 pm last night to eat. we had no idea they close so early on a saturday night, which is 9pm. the attendant then tells us he’s going to “check” to see if they can serve us. he comes back and says no, it’s too late. this was maybe 8:50 now. if you’re not going to take customers when technically open, then close at 8:45. totally changed my perception of mario’s. bad customer service too.
It took forever to get our drinks then it took forever to get served. The margaritas were not very good. It was like something was missing. I had the shrimp alfredo and it tasted like it had gravy over it instead of cheese sauce.
Pros: 1) Beautiful Italian restaurant - most beautiful exterior and interior Italian diner I've ever been to. 2) Wonderful efficient staff 3) Great salads - very cold CONS: 1) Unfortunately, the pizza was horrible. This is why I give it a one-star. The owners need to visit a pizza place called D'amores Pizza in Malibu, CA. Everyone thinks this is the best pizza in So Cal. The main problem with this pizza was it was NOT New York style, but thick, chewy, dry, and very little tomato paste. How is this possible? Especially as a place that puts 'pizza' on the outside of their restaurant and claim it's Italian? My wife and I would have LOVED if we could have paid them to just sit there and eat Dominos. Dominos pizza is 100x better pizza than this place. Sorry my rating: 1/10 even with all the pros. God bless and hate criticizing.
Stay away from the Carbonara. This dish lacks flavor and meat. They basically served me spaghetti in a sea of bland white sauce. They obviously don't know how to make a correct carbonara. It was absolutely horrible. I won't be back.
Ordered pizza and pasta for delivery, pasta was fine nothing special, my issue was the pizza. Pretty much inedible, so soggy Im pretty sure the dough wasn't cooked. Had a couple of bites in center, mid, and edge. Couldn't finish one piece, was disgusted. Waste of money.
A can of Chef BoyrDee is better than this place. Disgusting so called Italian .both Mario’s and Ciro’s are horrid. Pizza is beyond bad. Their Chicken Parmesan was a joke like a frozen Swanson meal
My family ordered takeout from here. We requested a large pizza with half salami and jalapeno, half pepperoni, and an antipasto salad. However, we found that the salami on the pizza was moldy, the pizza dough was not fully cooked, and the dressing for the salad had a strange smell. I called the restaurant to inform them of our concerns. The lady who answered the phone offered to remake our food if we returned to the restaurant. However, I requested a refund for the order instead, as we did not want to risk receiving another poor-quality order. The lady informed me that the Manager would need to contact us the next day to arrange the refund. We kept the food to show it to the Manager if necessary. However, the Manager never contacted us, and we ended up throwing the food away. This experience left us feeling dissatisfied, and we will not be returning to the restaurant since they did not show any concern for their customers.
Price for pizza and wings $40 should be a crime ! I love the food but I hate how expensive it is when dominos is doing $7.99 any medium pizza.
I ordered the chicken parmigiana with penne pasta in a vodka sauce, fried zucchini with marinara and tiramisu. The chicken was not white when you cut into it. It was brown. I’m not sure what the sauce was but I can tell you this it wasn’t good. The garlic bread that comes with the pasta was stale. The fried zucchini was fried in old oil. It was as if they used old product and fried it. The marinara was brown in color which it should be red. The tiramisu was warm. Like it was sitting out on the counter for a long time. I called the restaurant to let them know of the bad quality of food that has been served. The manager or supervisor on duty did handle this complaint well. She refunded the whole amount. The kitchen staff needs to be retrained in the kitchen on how to cook. The only good thing from this place is that they refunded my money.
Little Caesars pizza is better than this and a fourth of the cost. I ordered the "10 pizza. The dough was almost undercooked and very bread-like, not a great pizza crust. The rest was just ok. For a $20 10" pizza, I expected more. I also ordered the lasagna; it was not only small and bland, but also. Just as expensive. The service was not good, server was mono-tone and unfriendly (like a prison release program). I can't believe this has 3 locations..

I ordered the chicken parmigiana with penne pasta in a vodka sauce, fried zucchini with marinara and tiramisu. The chicken was not white when you cut into it. It was brown. Do yourself a favor and listen to the negative reviews. Bland with a crap ton of garlic. Inattentive service even when empty. What a sham. Go to Olive Garden or make it at home.
We went there because of the reviews and as we walked in we saw the awards on the wall. Our table ordered lasagna, eggplant sandwich, and one of us ordered the Greek salad. It was such a disappointing the lasagna looked like someone's vomit. The eggplant sandwich was soggy and I couldn't see any eggplant anywhere it was just the sauce and cheese on top of a bread. The salad was bathed in vinegar. Everything was so disgusting that we didnt eat it.The only reason I payed was because I didn't think they would believe us and I didn't want them to acuse us of trying to get a free meal. Sorry I didn't take any pictures. Eat at your own risk.
