This is the perfect place for breakfast and lunch in Palm Springs. I enjoyed my experience here so, so much and can’t wait to go back. It’s full of locals and lots of families, you can tell many of the people dining there have been coming for a long time. It’s super casual but has such a wonderful, special ambiance. There was live music playing, and the patio is so well covered and shaded that it’s very comfortable. The food was amazing, the portions were huge, and it’s very reasonably priced. We had to wait about 45 minutes for a party of two at 12pm on a Saturday. Anywhere with a wait that long is clearly popular for a reason, so we didn’t mind waiting. You can also walk around the fun main store while you wait, which makes the time go by fast. Great menu selection, it was honestly hard to decide what to order because everything sounded so good. And breakfast is served until 2pm which is exactly what I want on the weekend! The service was great and our waitress was super nice and food came out promptly.
Absolutely delicious food, attentive service, and pet friendly!
We were in Palm Springs for a tournament and kept hearing about getting a date shake... we are so glad we went to Shields. The garden walk was beautiful and very well thought out. the store was nice, a bit pricey but lots of stuff to look at. The date shake was delicious, not sure why people have negative reviews on it... it was thick and yummy!
whoa! what a gem of a place. we stopped here with a large group for brunch after a birthday weekend in Coachella. we were sat quickly. the food options were great, it was tough to pick. I had the Date Me Omelet with country potatoes, and a biscuit and gravy on the side. so, so delicious. then it was fun to walk around the area and check out the shop and theater. wish I lived closer to this place! would love to come back and try more items on the menu.
We stopped for our annual date shake at Shields Date farm and decided to have lunch there. Even though it was a busy weekend day the wait for a table of 5 was relatively quick. The host and server were polite and helpful with our requests. The food arrived at the table in what I thought was a short time and it tasted as good as it was presented. They do a great job at Shields!
The world is vast, and it is filled with so many incredible restaurants waiting to be discovered. I truly realized this truth during my recent visit to The Cafe at Shields. I stopped by this gem on a long-awaited trip to Palm Springs. Recommended by an acquaintance, it turned out to be a place where the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is even better—complete with live music and open-air dining. After your meal, you can stroll through the park located just behind the restaurant. The park features beautiful sculptures depicting the major stories of the Bible. It is a perfect place to spend a deeply satisfying afternoon, walking along the path, reading the inscriptions, and capturing memories through photos. If you are looking for that perfect blend of taste and tranquility, this is the place to be.
We visited Shields Date Garden on December 26 for brunch, and it turned out to be a wonderful way to spend part of our last day in the desert. I ordered the Shields sopes with carnitas, along with a side of rice, and my husband had the chilaquiles, adding chorizo. Both dishes were excellent—well flavored, satisfying, and thoughtfully prepared, with good portion sizes overall. The only small note I’d make is that the $3.50 side of rice was pretty small, but that didn’t take away from how tasty everything was. Service was very friendly, and our food came out quickly. We sat on the patio, which was peaceful and relaxed. As we were getting ready to leave, a live guitarist came out and started playing, which added such a lovely, welcoming touch to the atmosphere. We arrived on the early side, so there were only a few other couples dining, but by the time we left it was filling up nicely. Beyond the restaurant, Shields offers more than just food. They have what they call “The Walk,” which tells the story of Jesus from birth through death and resurrection. It was beautifully done. While I didn’t quite understand the connection between the date palm gardens and the biblical display, it’s clear this is a place with a strong commitment to sharing their faith, and they do so thoughtfully on their property
We were lucky, we got there and got seated immediately but right after that there was a line. The food was great and the portions were enormous so be sure to share. They have a great menu and the prices are ok.
Went here on a whim whilst starving for breakfast. I was seated outside in a cozy patio space. The restaurant has an upscale laid-back vibe and was overall an enjoyable experience. Service was prompt and excellent. I enjoyed a glass of OJ but not so much the Eggs Benedict. There was something lacking in the hash-browns and it was a bit like chewing on plastic. The Eggs Benedict sauce had good flavor, however the ham seemed chunky and I honestly just wasn’t wow’d by it. Perhaps another benedict they offer could be better. I noticed many of the other tables were enjoying waffles, pancakes, and French toast. I would be open to giving this place another go. Overall seems like a nice restaurant.
Went here for brunch and got seated right away--no wait, which was a nice surprise. Our server was genuinely friendly and made sure everything came out quickly. They even handed my kids activity sheets, which bought us a few peaceful minutes. For food, the kids ordered the chicken tacos and the date pancakes. Both were a hit. I tried the "Date Me Omelette," and the flavor caught me off guard in a good way--savory with a touch of sweetness from the dates. We also ordered the bacon-wrapped stuffed dates, and those were packed with flavor. Overall, great service, interesting menu, and dishes that actually deliver on taste. I'd come back.
Went thinking we could walk thru the life of Jesus... however it is under construction..yes the week before Thanksgiving they were removing trees. There was a hint of Christmas decorations around that didn't look like they were in their final destination. So yes I was a bit disappointed having heard of this spot for years and this being my first trip to Palm Springs I was looking forward for the experience. With that out of the way there were 5 of us having lunch. So from burgers to Ahi Poke Tower everyone had a delicious meal. The flavors were on point. Service was a bit light the staff was busy with a private group...which in my opinion the wait staff was stressed. Even through it was noticeable our waiter was attentive. When I return to Palm Springs I do plan to go again in hope of being able to enjoy another meal and experience the walk. The price point is reasonable..
We went for breakfast and had a great experience. The Date Shakes were absolutely delicious—definitely a highlight. We also tried the green sauce chilaquiles with carne asada and really enjoyed them. There's a shop on-site where you can browse their merchandise, souvenirs, and a variety of date products. Inside the shop, there’s also a café if you’re just looking for a drink. I’d definitely return, even if it’s just for another date milkshake.
We live right behind shields and have never been there! It was excellent! They seated us quickly, server took a little longer than desired to greet us, but they were busy! The food was excellent but a little pricy for three. After the delicious meal, we walked the grounds. Beautiful beautiful beautiful! Will return!

Early morning breakfast, I came with friends at 8:30am and was only the 2nd people here...by the time I left it was completely full, no tables by 10:30am. They have plenty of parking with overflow parking on the east side of the parking lot under the palm trees. The service and our waiter were amazing, we were served fast, and our server was attentive to our needs, there was 8 of us, so we used 2 tables. Breakfast was good, nothing fancy, just good breakfast. The grounds are beautiful, and the weather was nice for an early morning breakfast with friends...side note....it is Fly season and they were out in abundance trying to catch a bite so be aware of the pesky things.

We love this place for breakfast. It's very nice outdoor atmosphere. The food is good. The service is usually good. We enjoy going there and taking friends there when they come to town.

Our two plates came out room temp, rice just a tad much on the garlic. My pancake could've been warmer as well. The date jam was actually tasty, but the cut dates were a lil harder then I was expecting. Service could've been a lil more attentive as well.
I’m gonna be honest, I had high expectations for this place and it just wasn’t very good. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. When we arrived (Saturday lunch time) it was a full house and we were told it would be a 20 minute wait, it was only 10 so great start. Our server was good and attentive and the outdoor space was well shaded with live music playing. We ordered the stuffed dates. They were decent. We also ordered the date burger and the pulled pork sandwich. Our serving plates came out still dirty, which wasn’t great but these things happen. Our food came out and looked mediocre, and didn’t taste much better. I don’t know if we just came on a bad day but the burger was pretty bland, and the pulled pork just tasted weird. Also, the ketchup on the table tasted weird but maybe I was just hating at this stage. Overall, just not very good food. When we left, we decided to grab a date shake, the younger male at the counter must’ve been having a bad day, he threw my straw onto the counter in front of me, again nothing crazy but enough to cement a not very good experience. The date shake was decent. I don’t often leave bad reviews and I don’t think this is necessarily a bad review, but this place certainly missed the mark when it came to dining experience overall.
We didn't actually dine at the cafe, just ordered date shakes and sat at the counter. I'd been coming here for years but it's been about 25 years since my last visit. Wow, has it changed! Expanded into a sizeable gift shop, etc. That's all good, but the main reason to come is for a fresh date shake. What a disappointment! The shake is so sweet like straight sugar. I asked, and the server pointed to the date sugar crystals in a container on the bar counter. They no longer mix fresh dates into vanilla ice cream. It tasted nothing like the old fashioned shakes I remember.
I came to try their Dates milkshake, and buy some Dates. The 2Ib was for $25 so i passed. The milkshake was not make to order, I was supervised when he handed to me almost immediately, it was really frozen and hard to drink, it was for $9.95 and that was more than the average, and there was nothing special about it. They sell different made in house syrups and sauce and some cake. I did not try them I felt that they were overpriced. There was plenty of parking
Horrible service. Sat there for 10 min and watched the waited walk back and forth completely ignoring us, not even a glass of water or the greeting was offered.
Visted this Cafe on 3-20-21. For approximately 15 minutes, we were completely ignored. We were not acknowleged, brought water or anything. I finally had to ask the hostess, if we were going to be…
