Had a wonderful lunch with my daughter up on the patio overlookin the beach. It was spectacular and so we're the all you can eat crab legs for 30 bucks. Had desert at the ice cream shop to top it off. Awesome

Excellent location and view. I have to echo some of the other reviewers' comments as this place has much better food (and prices) than it needs to. My buffalo wrap was pretty good as was my wifes steak sandwich. Our daughter had the chicken fingers which were a tad over fried. 5 stars awarded for service and atmosphere. 3 to 4 star food, but who cares we enjoyed our selves.

I really like this place, but the service is not consistent. My most recent visit resulted in no drink order taken nor food. We went back today and were served very promptly.

Great atmosphere and Tasty food and drinks. Plentiful indoor/outdoor Upstairs/downstairs seating, and I think there are a few different bar areas within the restaurant. Nice selection of mixed fruity alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks as well as Pepsi products, juice, beers, and wines. Pretty decent selection of paninis, sandwiches, wraps, dinners, salad, and appetizers. The decor was great, bathrooms were clean, they had these very cool garage door windows that they opened up to get fresh air flowing throughout the restaurant. It gets hot upstairs for patrons and employees, so it’s nice they they have the ability to assist in keeping their employees cool while working. Whether it was the owners intentions or not. The food was a little Too salty, but overall tasty. The beach is 50 ish feet away, and going got dinner is the best, as you get to see the sunset on the lake. Employees were friendly but could be better with filling up drinks. The music playing in the background was not too loud, so you could still talk with who you were sitting with but you could also chair dance if you had a couple drinks. Comfortable seating, no wheelchair access for upstairs seating but definitely lots of places to eat downstairs. Ice cream parlor and gift shop downstairs. Definitely a good place to go for dinner or just hanging out and having drinks. No dessert menu. Great establishment.

After a summer of not attending the lovely Lake Erie shore, I decided to go to Sunset Bay Beach and enjoy the water, drinks and food at Cabana Sam's Grille. Lucky me it was the last day they would be opened this 2021 season. Atmosphere is always great and they lived up to my expectations. Best of all, my sweetheart had a smile on her face all during this last minute visit.

Love coming here, enjoy the sun! The staff is super friendly. Enjoy 2 for 1 happy hour. Prices are reasonable for the atmosphere. Go get some food and a tan while enjoying a cold one

It was Monday the 3rd. They had a small fireworks display which was ok plus the bar next to them had some and you could see Dunkirk I believe a distance away the best part was I was with a friend from work it was nice. I hope to go back again

Tons of items to choose from on the menu, excellent views of the beach and water. Perfect sunset location for the end of a beach day. Seems like they can accommodate tables of almost any size as well if your willing to wait.

We ate here on a sunny Monday afternoon. There is plenty of patio seating. I’m sure it’s place would be very busy on the weekend. Great place to people watch, very close to t he beach the foods was delicious and affordable. We had the Baja fish wrap and the chicken salad sandwich and both were very good.

We had the fish fry. It was huge and delicious! Our waitress was friendly and efficient. There was a mistake on our bill and the manager fixed it as soon as she was notified. We loved being able to have our dogs with us on the patio. The hostess even got the dogs some water when we first sat down. Great view of the beach and lake!

We were there for the big Walleye tournament Sunset Bay Walleye Shoot out The place was hopping! I even told the owner the next day how on point her entire staff was. Atmosphere was amazing. We had a quick burger and slice of pizza. Bathrooms very clean. NERDS GONE WILD played live on stage Sunday. This is a fun venue, with amazing service. Great summer fun!!

My family rents a beach house every summer, and every year we have to come back to Cabana Sam’s, it’s always been the place! 🌊☀️ They have great specials every day and such a fun, laid-back atmosphere. The food is always fresh, and the drinks are delicious! Bar and dinner service can take a little while for food and refreshments to come out, so make sure you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy. That’s my only critique, but honestly, the wait is worth it! Definitely try their drinks, we got strawberry daiquiris, and they were absolutely amazing. 🍓🍹 The wings are great, but my personal favorite is the quesadillas, everything is full of flavor and super fresh. We ate here for a full week and never once got cold food, everything came out hot and perfect every single time! Cabana Sam’s is definitely a staple of Sunset Bay, and it’s part of what makes our summers here so special. ❤️

We loved it! Fair prices with a variety offered and an ice cream parlor below. It was kind of party/ college vibes when we went but still family friendly and right on the lake. **Update after owner response we did sit up in the enclosed area which was very nice upstairs. It was a really windy day but they had coverage which blocked majority or the wind. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

We were visiting from Ohio and wanted to check out a local spot. It did not disappoint! Beautiful scenery, amazing food, on point staff, everything was exceptional. We chose to sit up top and the waiter was so kind every time we asked for something that wasn't available up top. So sorry to the gentleman that had to do stairs today. Unfortunately the food was so good I only managed to take a pic of the leftover appetizer . Lol

End of Summer..September 14. All you can eat crab moved to Thursdays in Sept. I opted for the Mango Grouper Salad. It did NOT disappoint. The blackened fish had a little kick, but the cool mango balanced it out. Our server was attentive and friendly but did not hover. A great night and I recommend checking it out.

Went here for the 90s party and stayed for the beach. The place is in a great location and the beach is magnificent. It’s a bit dated and the restrooms smell a bit, but it’s a beach bar… I didn’t go there expecting much. I only gave a 4 star because they do business with DJ RanKan, who is bro tool. The actual party was sad with about 30 people actually showing up.

Always a nice place to have supper. View of the beach and sunsets. Hamburger is delicious and consistently made. Cans of beer are pricey, but hey, you are right on the beach and there is no competition. They may know they are the only game in town but they make your experience unique and memorable.

It is a very good place to hang out and have dinner at the end of a beach day. They have volleyball courts right on the beach. The menu is large but mostly has fried food. I went with my friends and they set up a large table and were very accommodating. I would recommend to a friend.

The views are spectacular during the summer. In 2025, they had wonderful servers. Their homemade chips were a bit over-seasoned and salty for my taste, as well as over cooked. At least they weren’t oily. I wish they didn’t finely chop the bacon (?) in the California wrap. It was okay. The music was way too loud for that early in the day.

Great view and the best beach in the area. We stopped by for a quick lunch on a boat day. I have not been here in ages so didn’t have any expectations. We were seated quickly and since it was Sunday we were offered a brunch menu in addition to their standard menu. Overall the prices on the menu were reasonable. And the offerings were casual, lots of bar food, sandwiches, salads, burgers, some entrees, etc. We ordered some of the brunch specials drinks which were advertised as $3 for a Bloody Mary or a cabana cooler which was vodka, oj and sprite. For mains we had the steak and seaweed sandwich and the coconut shrimp dinner. I ordered the shrimp dinner because I was told they had sweet potato fries. The server came back out shortly to tell me they don’t have the sp fries. I should have changed to the appetizer sized menus item but my significant other had enthusiasm to try the onion rings. Overall the food was just ok. The steak in the sandwich was over cooked, and I’m told the fries were very good. The coconut shrimp was cooked well but didn’t have a lot of flavor. The pina colada sauce looked like a condiment cup full of mayonnaise. It didn’t taste like much, didn’t taste like mayo, and was slightly sweet. I used a tiny amount to eat my shrimp so they were not dry. I got mixed reviews on the onion rings. Someone said they were good and someone else said they were standard and nothing special. I also got a side salad with the dinner which was also standard, bagged iceberg lettuce variety. The bill came and the brunch drinks were $4. Not a huge deal but update your menus. Another friend ordered chicken fingers which looked very good. They were large and there were quite a few of them. I’d try those if we came back again. I would say this is a great place for drinks and a view. They have a lot of live music which is also a plus. Nothing terrible happened but the food was lacking.

The view of the water was great. The food was mediocre. $10 should have bought two decent quality crab cakes, but the breading to crab ratio was 2:1 at most. I couldn't taste crab at all... disappointing. The staff was friendly.

We sat at a table for over 1 hour with waitress all around us, but because we did not go to a hostess no one waited on us. We went inside to get our own drinks. Later when drinks were gone still no services from anyone there. Not even a hello, how are you tonight. My husband went inside to bar and asked how to get service at the table. He asked if we seen a hostess, do we have to go through a hostess. Answer was No you shouldn' t have to. My husband then asked to speak with manager. He told her what had happened and she could tell he was not happy. This has happened to us 3 different time we have been here. Despite going thru a hostess I would hope waitresses would be nice and at least friendly and asked if we needed anything.

I'm not a fan of the place. To me the best thing is the location! Who doesn't love the beach? The food is mediocre, the service, even worse. We had to get our own napkins, silverware even after asking the server! Not in a hurry to get back.

Food was good, and brought out in a timely manner. The only issue I had was after the bill was brought out. Waited 30 minutes before I finally got up and talked to the bartender to pay my bill. Our waitress seemed to have disappeared, and it wasn't even busy. The reason we went here was to have a meal, and walk the beach as the sunset. That didn't happen because of the lack of prompt service.

We went to eat yesterday afternoon at this place for the first time, we wanted to sit on the terrace, but even though there were hundreds of people, the hostess wanted to give us a table inside, we asked outside and she said she would investigate, she took us back to the podium and finally took us to the terrace where there were many empty tables, she didn't seem very happy that we preferred us outside, the waitress was very kind, attentive and with super service, the food was cold, not warm, it was cold, we couldn't eat it and we asked for it to go. This was our experience, maybe it helps you improve

The place view is absolutely beautiful on the lake. The crab cake was very delicious but the rest of the order was not done well. We ask for gluten free for my husband's food but the chicken came breaded. We asked for no hot spicy in my wrap and came spicy and over salted. They were nice to take off the bill because I refuse to eat it. The waitress was average. We enjoyed other places more than this one.

When we arrived, the experience started off poorly with the bouncer at the door. He was incredibly rude and denied my brother entry due to having a vertical ID — even though he’s 22. He claimed it was “state policy,” which simply isn’t true. As someone who works in the industry, I understand the importance of checking IDs to keep your establishment safe, but I also know that vertical IDs are not illegal or automatically invalid. If that were the case, the state wouldn’t issue them. The bouncer, who seemed about the same age as us, honestly came off like he was just enjoying the power trip. It would’ve gone a lot differently if he had simply said it was the venue’s policy to only accept horizontal IDs, which is totally their right. But the attitude was unnecessary. Inside, our waitress was super sweet and did a great job, but unfortunately the food was disappointing. The wings were the only thing we enjoyed — everything else just didn’t hit the mark and seemed like it was straight out of the microwave but not in a good way. Overall, it wasn’t a great experience. Between the unwelcoming entry and subpar food, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re headed straight to the bar and there to enjoy the music.

Went on a Friday sat outside to have a drink and a few appetizers for happy hour. We got onion rings and deep fried pickles and tater tots. Love the tots very hot and crispy onion rings were delicious and my daughter liked the pickles but prefers the spears these were chips our waitress was friendly and very informative. We got our drinks at the outside bar guy wasn't friendly and acted weird towards me when I told him I wanted a different drink when it had a bug floating in it he didn't see it when he handed it to me! Nice day and beautiful views

Not impressed. Also, very windy but they can't change that obviously. I made reservations for a Friday during the summer and we had no problems with that. Drinks were ordered, they do not take out of state licenses which is a little weird, bring your passport if you look younger. Drinks were overpriced for what they were. Maybe it depends on who is making them. Food was overpriced for the seafood options for what you got. Overall, everything was overpriced for the quality of the food. Fries were pretty good. Nice breading. Probably wouldn’t come back

There was a 30 minute wait time. The bar was only open outside, the table was sticky, once seated asked for drinks and did not get for over an hour. Ordered deep fried pickles and they were shriveled up hanging out of the beer batter in the basket. We both ordered specials at first started out okay and wanted to enjoy, but burger was charred on outside and pink in the middle. I have been before and highly recommend cross fries, wings and coconut drink they are known for. They were selling Chinese laterns which people lit and when in the sky at dusk were amazing!

Went yesterday for the first time, very disappointed. First the outside table we liked but the floor under it ( where we put our feet) had something spilled which didn't look appetizing so we had to move the table and chairs. When the waitress brought our drinks she didn't hold her tray and someone's meal went all down my son's left, staining his brand new clothes, then when she brought our meal she spilled butter on me and it of course stained my skirt. Our food was good but it was 20 minutes and I had to ask for utnesils. Our bill was over $200.00 so you would think the service would have been alot better and was given no discount, so for an evening out it has actually cost a little over $300 as I have to replace my skirt and my son's pants and shirt.This was our first time and will be our last and will not recommend.

The service was slow. The waitress was rude and clueless. I ordered a drink with a souvenir mug and got a plastic cup instead. The view was nice but next time I'll just sit my butt on the beach and save $60.

We've been here a few times previously and always had a good experience. However, yesterday we hope was an exception. We were seated quickly but then took a very long time to have a server come to our table. We gave him our drink and food order at the same time as we had the time to decide. Drinks took 20 mins to come to us. Food came out quickly. Our server said it was his first day so to let him know if we were missing anything. We were missing sauces for the fishermans platter so we tracked him down standing around in the wings and looked very annoyed we asked for the sauces. He never came back to the table and we had to track him down again for a to go box and the check. Once again he was in the wings standing and talking. As a fellow restaurant worker I do have sympathy if you are new but not if you are just standing around ignoring the two tables you have in your section while the other servers upstairs were very pleasant and attentive to their tables. Food was ok. Standard fried fair but we come for the sunset view. Hope the service improves.

It was fun to sit near the water and people watch. The food is not very good. They served our dinners before our appetizers. I ordered steamed clams, they were so large and over cooked. The waitress asked us what type of potatoes we wanted with the burger and then charged us extra without telling us. Go for drinks only

Scenery is nice. Eating outside on the beach is nice. Quality of food is not great. Party of 2, $59?! Philly steak sandwich w/ tots, grilled chicken sandwich with chips, appetizer of coconut shrimp, 2 mich ultras and 1 diet pop. Way too expensive for the quality of food, chicken wasn't even a real chicken breast...frozen processed meat reheated. Most likely won't be back.

We're annual renters here, and yesterday was our first ice cream run of the year to the ice cream shop right next to cabana sam’s. I ordered a caramel toffee crunch sundae and a homemade ice cream sandwich, but I got a sundae with peanut butter instead of caramel (caramel is literally in the name) Plus, the girl making the ice cream sandwich wasn't wearing gloves when she handled the cookie that i was going to eat! While I was waiting, I saw another employee making a chocolate custard for the customer behind me. She literally stuck her bare finger into the top of the custard to flatten it I've worked at an ice cream shop for years, and that's totally unprofessional and a health code violation.

Went yesterday for the seafood fest. The shrimp was sad. I don’t even know how else to explain it. Crab legs were not worth the extra $20. So tiny and just no care put into it at all. The burgers have to be frozen patties. And the sesame chicken “strips” are chicken fingers. Idk why they don’t just say that. Overpriced food but it’s pretty much to pay for the view. My waitress was amazing!

Very bad experience the waiters were very rude. we were the only African American family and was being watched by the manager after we ordered 2 $69 orders of all you can eat crab legs and they didn't want our 8yr old kids to share any with us although the adults was not sharing. Just over all rude and judgemental based off of our skin color no oth family was treated this way and plenty of other families were sharing no one sai anything to them.sad we can't come spend our money like everyone else

Extremely disappointed! Website said they had all you can eat crab on Tuesdays.THEY DID NOT! So.. being a huge crab fan I ordered the "2lbs of crab for $55". Puny, skinny clusters, only 4 of them!!. Low quality. No way = 2lb. Shredded coming out of the shell (& I'm a professional crab leg cracker). Left hungry.

The service was one of the worst that I have received in a long time. Took forever to get our drinks (they were made but the waitress said she was one of only two waitresses). Not true cause I counted at least (5) downstairs. She messed up our order, and they wouldn’t let us use an umbrella. So we left, because of the sun beating down on our foreheads and getting burnt to a crisp.

Went last night. Got luke warm microwave chicken. Sent it back, got slightly warm chicken, fresh from the microwave. Needless to say, I don't feel good today. We go there because its on the beach, but the food is always bad. Also, my son got shrimp with a hair fried in the breading. My wife got a pint of beer, which is supposed to be 16 oz., in a 13 oz. plastic cup (the cup was marked). I recommend going to the place on the corner as you turn into the bay, just before the railroad tracks (Sunset Bay Restaurant).

My boyfriend and I went out to dinner here during the summer and my experience was disappointing. The food was good but the service was terrible! I was sat directly in the sun and my waitress didnt care to fill up my water. I asked her multiple times for a refill but she never came back with the drink (she only came back for the check) which can really expain the restaurant's priorities. I will never eat here again just because it's too over priced for a restaurant with terrible service.

This place has poor communication. I called at 3:30 to ask to be on a wait list. The woman said there should be no problem. There should be no wait. I explained I have kids and and cannot wait. I get there. It's a 1.5 hour wait. All they had to do is have good customer service and put me on a list.

Steady decline in food quality, cleanliness and staff! Have been renting a cottage close by for years and have noticed a huge change in every regard. Went this 4th of July and started off by returning our first drink at the bar, not sure what it was but definitely not what we ordered, possibly because bartender was doing too many shots with the patrons. Ordered dinner and returned my steak salad because the bits of steak were hard burnt pieces. The waitress did apologize and replace with better ones. Sat close to the patio entrance and viewed “security” smoking and giving a first terrible impression. Waitress told us we just missed a fight in the dining room and someone smashed a plate over someone’s head. Didn’t surprise me by the lack of tolerance by management. Bathroom was filthy and to top it off we spent $130 on dinner, we’re finishing our drinks and the waitress came over started clearing our glasses and told us they need the table, only to say sorry i thought you were squatters I didn’t know you ordered dinner. What?? I was insulted and upset. I guess that’s what their used to?? Why would you say such a thing?? Oh yeah and forgot to mention that the busboy intentionally dumped the water off of our clam plates right onto the floor next to my shoes so he could carry them easier. The staff are all inexperienced and acted like they could care less. Again very poor management, no one watching over them. Don’t see any sort of respectable or decent clientele wanting to experience this whole chaotic atmosphere. You get what you tolerate. I don’t see a bright future for the owner, sorry to say. I’ve loved this place all those years but it is falling apart.

Cabana Sam's (the old Calico Jack's) in Sunset Bay. It was absolutely horrible. Inedible. We brought the meat home for our dog and left the rest. The rolls were stale package rolls. The butter was old and absorbed odors from other items in the fridge. It was absolutely inedible. Nothing was seasoned. Mushy frozen veggies were cold. We weren't even sure what really was on our plate. We had 15 Friends and we weren't even seated together inspite of calling ahead of time to arrange. 1 waitress to serve 15 people. She was sweet & tried her best. Not her fault. They need new management. Inedible!!! Parking is very limited.

Tried to attend a party on the upper patio at 6pm. Place was so overcrowded 100% sure was way over any safe occupancy rating. Nothing like people smoking and being so cramped you can't move or relax. Left after 20 minutes. Feel bad didn't even see the birthday guest. Really should plan for the right size space for safety reasons. Very sad

Bad service. Bad cold food. Waitress carly kept screwing up drink orders and screwed up food orders or forgot. Are party couldn't eat all at once. Didn't give us plates or anything to eat on to share appetizers. Our app came with my salad entree that wasn't correct nor was I given correct dressing or plates to share app. Never ate it. We didn't say anything but she apologized and shared she spoke with manager about all her screw ups. But then proceeded to charge us all norm price and then when we all payed our bills, she insisted we didn't need change. She was a kind server but food, service & experience way better at mickey rats. Dumbfounded by the experience at cabana sams.

I have Celiac Disease, and after going back and forth with the waitress to confirm getting a completely gluten free meal I was served something that was cross contaminated in the fryer and immediately made me sick. It’s an auto immune disease and allergy and they still served me making me incredible ill for days.

I had a disappointing experience at Cabana Sam's Sunset Bay Grill. The wait for a menu and a server to take our order was uncomfortably long, and the food quality did not make up for it. The chicken fingers were soggy and tasted stale, and there was an excessive amount of salt on the French fries in all three orders we had. Even the fish and chips were let down by a coleslaw salad that seemed off. I was so disheartened by the entire experience. Based on this visit, I'm afraid I can't recommend Cabana Sam's Sunset Bay Grill.

This place just wasn’t good and the owner seemed snobby to her workers I honestly wouldn’t recommend eating there nether the less working there she has very young employees who don’t seem happy, one of my favourite employees was the parking guy he was this young kid we talked he said he played ball for north collins and he was very enthusiastic about everything including his job and made people laugh there was also one girl working in the deli and she was the most polite person I’ve ever met most of this place wasn’t worth it but if I could come and talk to just those staff and maybe a few others I’d do it again

Went to the bar during a rain storm. Were greeted and served a drink without issue. Decided to order food and another drink and the bartender was too busy visiting with her friends in the corner. Tried to wave her down. She walked past us to get a drink for someone she was talking with and no luck for us. After waiting patiently for about 15 minutes, we left without leaving our tip. We did notice the people sitting next to us were sitting without drinks as well. It's a shame, as she is older you would think she would know better but she had zero cares.

This place has declined. The food is over priced for the portion size as well as the lack of quality. I ordered a Cesar salad with shrimp and grilled chicken. It came in a small plate, was basically 1 layer of lettuce, 4 small shrimp, and what looked like a frozen skinless chicken piece...not even a whole piece. The end cost for just that salad was almost $25. My husband's Pittsburgh salad was similar...atleast his came in a bowl and had a bit more lettuce, but there was very little steak and the fries were just regular frozen stick fries...also over $20. They seem short staffed and over packed. Just not worth it anymore. Maybe good for drinks and to listen to a live band, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this place to anyone.
