Opinions de Bagel Café Isla Vista
had "the melt" on tomato basil with mozzarella and it was so good my knees buckled and i fell where i stood
The most amazing place in Santa Barbara for bagels!
Bagel Cafe has excellent bagels. I have strong opinions on bagels and these were very good, some of the best bagels in southern California for sure. Also my sandwich was just incredible. It was a great combination of ingredients. Worth a detour for sure. Make sure to order ahead on the SpotOn app.
Completely stellar bagel crafting from Lucas Ogburn
My experience was fantastic super easy to order from the app, great vibe in store.
Quick and easy. Very good, big bagels with lots of cream cheese.
The vibe here is great! Just what you would expect from small storefront loved by local college students. The employees are happy to serve you, suggest a favorite, make some jokes and keep everyone smiling. BUT, what really makes this place great is the bagels! Their bagels have that wonderful thin crust that is not crispy but still has a slight crunch as your bite into the best chewy, tender ring. Add a slather of one of their flavored cream cheeses or load it up with toppings or turn it into a sandwich. So good!
My favorite breakfast stop along the drive from Orange County to San Francisco. Incredible freshly made sandwiches worth the 5 min detour from the freeway
Always get a bagel here. They are the BEST!!
I ate here during college a while ago, now whenever I'm in town I'll stop by. Still such good food, we'll) good prices and overall the staff is friendly. Really fast and accommodating when it comes to delivery/pick-up.
Iv bagel cafe is an absolute gem. Located at the heart of Isla Vista, IV Bagel Cafe is the perfect place to grab a delicious morning breakfast. With their diverse menu and wide variety of bagel choices, you are bound to find something that will brighten your day. Feeling tired? Their lattes have got you covered. Don’t drink caffeine? Do not fret, for they have the best orange juice in the city. The seating outside is great for early morning or midday debriefs, as you reminisce about your wild night in isla vista. Don’t get me started about the staff and their quick, friendly, and incredibly efficient service. They work cohesively to get that warm delicacy of a bagel into your hands in less 10 minutes and they never fail to play great tunes while they are working. Bring your mom, bring your sister, bring your crazy aunt for all I care, just come and enjoy everything they have to offer as a the NUMBER ONE bagel spot in Isla Vista.
I ordered today via food delivery an altered version of the Melted Bagel, Harvey Keitel. I adjusted it to a poppyseed bagel, butter, honey and Swiss cheese and it was amazing. Nutty Swiss cheeziness, with a hint of sweetness. I also enjoy your Sex on a bagel which I love as well. Thank you for the taste experience and the flexibility for creating just what your customers want. Keep up the good work! 🤩
Luke Ogburn is the best at customer service and efficiency!
Best Bagels 🥯 ❤️ If you are looking for a local shop that your family can all enjoy variety of flavors I will definitely recommend stopping by here! The strawberry cream cheese is to die for and other breakfast bagels are very flavorful. My husband who usually doesn't like greens loved the avocado bagels with no meat on them and that says a lot! The ones with the breakfast meat are very tasty as well! They do get busy so you may have to wait a bit but definitely worth the wait!
We were told it was one of the best bagel places in Santa Barbara and I believe it! Go eat here! The coffee was good too. The only reason for the low atmosphere rating is that there's streetside seating and nothing much to talk about... But you should go here anyway! 🙂
I am a Bagel Cafe girl until I die. I come with my roommate at least once a week and it has got to the point where the workers memorize our coffee order! The workers are nice, and not to mention, absolutely gorgeous. With how busy the cafe gets, the service is great and the food is always bomb. My order consists of either the irish special or the international without onion and an iced coffee with whole milk and extra vanilla and it NEVER FAILS. I have also tried a slammin salmon and it really does well on a hot day. Overall, this place deserves all the love and kindness and i can’t wait to eat here for the rest of my time at UCSB!
Omg! This bagel shop is really for the locals and the UCSB gauchos but when you're on a vacation and find it, joy! These bagels are enough to last you through lunch if you pick the right one. The habenero sauce is bomb. I don't know where the turkey lived before it was on my sandwich but she lived good. I could taste it! Bravo IV Bagel Shop
I got the galaxy double roasted with extra cream cheese and tomato, a cinnamon glaze with blueberry cream cheese and an onion bagel with bacon, egg and cream cheese. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommend.
Delicious bagels. Cream cheese was fluffy, flavorful, not too dense. And generous servings of fluffy, flavorful cream cheese. Try Super Emma even if you're not a big fan of local organic sprouts.
amazing jalapeño bagel, my food is EXCELLENT every time. i've had the super emma - replaced the pesto cc with jalapeño cc and added extra jalapeños -- best thing ever. i've also gotten the sicilian which is pretty fire as well. half a bagel is filling enough for me honestly. i <3 iv bagel cafe 🥰
I think the bagel is the best in Santa Barbara! There are tens of choices that you can have, and you can even choose your favorite bagel flavors. I love the bagel with crunchy and soft texture. All in all, the cafe is nice for everyone.

Beautifully tasty and interesting bagels. Super friendly staff. The place was always crowded with new customers but they are fast to process the food
I love bagel cafe!! Jonny and Brad are the best and they make the best coffee in town!! Love Bagel Cafe!!!
Stopped here on a very quick trip to my hometown because my husband used to eat here all the time when he was in college. He's from NY and super picky about his bagels. Wanted to see if they were as good as he remembered and they were. Would stand them up against a NY bagel any day or the week. The place hasn't changed in decades, doesn't need to. Super nice people there to. So glad it lived up to the memories.

Fast service and good sized portions. Very friendly and accommodating staff and the menu has something for everyone. The bagels are a little dense for my taste, but the toppings are great. Good tomatoes and a reasonable amount of lox on the Hampton and the Slammin Salmon, both of which are great. If the bagels were as good as my wife's, this would be a 5 star review...
This is a long-overdue review...so here we go! For some odd reason, finding a decent bagel is close to impossible in Santa Barbara. Perhaps we are too far from the East Coast metropolitan areas and largest Jewish populations? Who knows... Thankfully, within Isla Vista is this tiny Bagel Cafe. While I can't lie by saying they're spectacular, they're the best in the area. According to Spoon University list, they were rated one of the best best breakfast spots on a college campus. What makes them more enjoyable is not just the variety of bagel flavors (about 21 to choose from), but their sandwich creations. No matter if you stop by for breakfast or lunch, they've got you covered. My personal favorite sandwiches are the Eggle Plus, Super Emma, and The International. I will say that the one downfall is the inconsistency of orders given that the staff is predominant undergraduate students who simply need a job. Yet, if you can get over this one complaint, you'll quickly become a regular like myself. Join their Spot On Rewards Program for deals and discounts. I suggest ordering online which allows you to skip the long line by taking out.
The bagels are fantastic. Love all the flavors and sandwich options. The only drawback is the service speed. I’ve been going here for over 10 years and it’s always taken so long to get orders out. If you want a good bagel, the wait is worth it, but maybe reconsider if you’re in a hurry.
The bagels are great. Every time i have gone, it's a wait, even with an online order. They do have the best bagel meals in town.
This place is a HOLE IN THE WALL. It ain't much to look at, but the employees were really nice and the food was decent. It kinda weirded me out that they cooked the eggs in the microwave but they don't hide it. It's all prepared right there in front of you. And it makes the egg the proper size for the bagel. They made a mistake on one of the bagel sandwiches apologized and insisted that they remake it so it was correct. Very nice. And the bagel sandwhiches were very good. If you are just looking to jam in and pick up a quick bagel or bagel sandwich this is a good option. I definitely wouldn't stay there to eat. Though they do have like 3 tiny tables outside on the sidewalk where you can sit and eat. We had iced mocha coffees as well, which were good.

Food is hit or miss. Normally tastes good but can be sloppy or poorly made. Service depends, they are nice but often forget your order if you have more than one item then act like it’s your fault for asking for your item.
i love bagel cafe, like any good ucsb student, but lately they just haven’t been doing it like they used to. if you ask for lox on half your bagel, they’ll literally charge you more than if you get lox on the whole bagel, and then they’ll serve you a barely made disappointment (see photo). this was $9.75! wtf! get it together bagel cafe!
Vegan options available! No vegan cream cheese unfortunately. How can you have vegan options except for the best bagel topping?! Please get one if possible! Tofutti and Miyokos both have a great vegan cream cheese! This is the perfect spot for college kids looking for a decently priced bagel. I wanted something savory so I got a garlic bagel topped with avocado. I wouldn’t have minded paying more for the avo (even though I already paid extra) if I knew they’d apply barely any. Another sad thing. If you’re going expect a wait of 10-20 mins. Thanks for the bagel. The non-vegan ones looked great!
Pretty tasty, I had a bagel sandwich with egg, bacon, cheese, and green peppers. Coffee was good. The staff were friendly so I would rate three and a half stars if I could add a half star for that part 😁
I understand that this was a large order placed during a busy morning, so I arrived prepared to wait a bit longer if needed. While I was fine with the extra 15–20 minutes beyond the estimated time, I had hoped that the order would at least be completed correctly. Unfortunately, two of the orders were missing the extra add-ons we had requested. I'll be sure to ask next time if they were added. The bagels were still good, but the experience left me feeling that placing a large order for our office may not be the best choice in the future.

Kitchen sanitation is not up to par and as for the bagels themselves, I’m not expecting Brooklyn level out in the middle of Goleta but I would expect at least 1/10 of the way there.
$27 for two bagels(!!) and they messed up my order (didn’t add an ingredient I payed extra for and kept an ingredient I wanted removed). Food was incredibly bland — I’ve never had smoked salmon with so little flavor. Came with huge globs of cream cheese that I ended up scraping 75% off. Very disappointed for the price.
They’re sooo slow here. I’ve been here 4 times. Someone who ordered the same thing I did got their food before I did. Chai Tea is pretty good, but the bagel and Dark Chocolate Mocha w/ Oatmilk tasted pretty bad. I waited about 20 minutes for 1 bagel and 2 drinks

My husband and I got food poisoning here. I’m sure that you know your turkey was spoiled. This was so suspicious that you put turkey to bagel which mustn’t have the turkey at all. We wanted to return this bagel, but we left and we didn’t have enough time to do it. It was last time I order here. Thank you for the night and morning in the toilet. Because of this, I won't be able to come to work today. I still feel bad
if i could give less than one star i would. i waited over an hour for two bagels, i ordered online and the estimated wait time was 10 minutes. I was order 189 and over an hour later they were calling out order 300, they hadn't even started on mine yet. after an hour the guy working there asks what kind of bagel i wanted instead since they didn't have what I originally ordered. there was a girl working there who was making the bagels who had her hair down literally in the food, not pulled back at all. she was brushing her hair back with gloves on and preparing the food at the same time. absolutely disgusting, how are you going to run a place that sells food and not have your employees pull their hair back!? employees were rude, ignored me when i asked where my bagel was. online orders are absolutely a joke, so disorganized, not a single thought went into how to run this business.
Asked for one of my bagels to have jalapeño cream cheese and one regular cream cheese. The guy who was working put my order onto the table but didn’t call out the order and I didn’t want to grab someone else’s food, I ended up standing there for almost 10 minutes waiting. While I was waiting I saw one of the girls eating the bacon used to make sandwiches with her gloves on(disgusting) Neither of my bagels were toasted, and the jalapeño cream cheese I ordered wasn’t there. These college students should take a class on how to work a basic job. It’s scary that these people are allowed to vote and drive cars.
Usually this place is pretty solid, but today we were in a rush so we called to place an order. They said they can’t take orders on the phone and that we need to order online. So we do that, hoping the bagels will be ready when we get there 20 minutes later. We were the only customers and the guy had obviously not started with our order at all. He told us it would be 4 minutes (though we had to wait 10) and then the order ended up being wrong in the end. So overall terrible experience. Don’t go if you need food quickly
Food was very sub par. For a $17 bagel I'm expecting flavor and good ingredients. The "added egg" was basically some awful smelling styrofoam looking/textured "steamed egg" patty which absolutely came from some egg solution. No actual eggs being cracked. And the coffee was disgusting. Burned and not drinkable. Went straight into the trash. Nasty all around. And the service is slow and with an attitude - especially the "couldn't be bothered" girl at the register.
i waited 40-45 minutes for my bagel and i just assumed they were backed up and waited until they were 10 orders ahead of me to check up on it. i asked and the worker said he'd make it right away and the ticket was on the service line in front of 4 workers who were working on other orders. i waited 10 more minutes and it still wasnt out so i asked for a refund and didnt get an apology throughout the entire process except for the girl who knew it shouldve been out already (thank you to her). i finally get it and the order is burnt and looks so skimpy. definitely not the best interaction and food for $10
The worst food I’ve ever had from a restaurant period. The “hollandaise” sauce is that pool of yellow liquid you see in the picture. The ham tastes like the cheapest slices you could buy and so cold. Completely inedible. Also the one wrapped in paper was literally OPEN when we got it in the middle of Covid. Exactly like in the picture that’s how we got it just barely crumpled up more at the top but still completely open. Also we didn’t get the drinks we payed forThe door dash guy just said oh wow that’s pretty terrible sorry report it on the app and left. Inedible.I can’t believe this cramping was looking forward to eating and I can’t eat this trash. I payed 40 dollars for trash. Also no answer when we called to complain.
Stopped in for 3 bagel sandwiches for myself and coworkers. Watch the person making then stop many times even though there were plenty of people working. She microwaved the neat multiple times after getting back from other tasks. I was charged extra for the bagels in the bagel sandwich. I payed for egg and cheese on all 3 sandwichs only to find it was not there once at work. 37$ for 3 bagel sandwich is insane. 20 minutes for 3 sandwich seems excessive when the place was not busy. Coworkers indicated they thought everyone was high there and they did not go there either because of service. Lesson learned. Never again. Over charged for items not received. Order placed at 8:35 I was bagging the bagels myself at 8:55. Keep your money, go somewhere else.

Jonny and Aiden should not be in customer-facing roles and I say this as someone who works in hospitality. Their lack of basic customer service skills and fundamental common sense is insane. This establishment took my order, debited $10.54 from my account, and then made me wait 15 minutes - only to completely forget my order. No communication. No acknowledgment. No accountability. Just negligence and attitude. When I requested a refund - because I refuse to patronize a business that operates more like a social club - the “manager,” Jonny, became combative and dismissive. He showed zero remorse and treated the situation as though it were an inconvenience to him rather than a failure on their part. Instead of correcting the mistake immediately, he forced me to jump through hoops with my bank to recover my own money. Over $10.54. It was unnecessarily humiliating. Customer service is not complicated. You treat customers with respect. When you make a mistake, you apologize and fix it. That’s it. You don’t project your bad attitude onto paying customers. Mistakes happen. Indifference, arrogance, and blatant disrespect are choices. Never ever returning.
