Haven't eaten here in a while and had forgotten how good the food is and how authentic it is!!!!!!! Great prices and sevice
Great tasting burritos definitely recommend trying their amazing food.
Best food in town for breakfast or lunch! They make you feel like family and the food is so good!
Food was very good, service was good, love the small family owned restaurant. Will go back again!
I had the breakfast burrito and it was great. Price was low for size of the burrito. I had the "rooster" very good
The breakfast burritos are large and very tasty. Hot sauce is mild, but very good taste. Green sauce is hot and delicious. Staff very friendly. Will be back.
Highly RECOMMEND. Long story short. Best salsa EVER...ordered sliced avocado on the side no problem and got a nice serving. Unlike 3 slices from other restaurants .. Im a outa towner...and have had the Shrimp...it is Fantastic..the other seafood is so GOOD... Everything on menu is Beyound GOOD... 15 Stars...5 isnt ENOUGH
The homemade Tamales are really good, but you have to order beforehand and pick them up on Saturday morning.
Great breakfast burritos with home made tortillas. Had the torta for lunch and it is the size of a trash can lid and very tasty (I had the fajita beef) Carne Guisada burrito is also a winner.
I absolutely love this place! My boyfriend introduced me to it. It's been a favorite of his for years! Great homemade food!! Delicious!!
Wonderful food, friendly staff!! Will be back for sure!! AUTHENTIC!!
I ate here 6 mornings per week for 2 years from 2008-10; The thing I miss most about Italy... Awesome Mexican Food! Take the word of a Bordertown Gringo, Mama's es ¡Múy Bueno!
I absolutely adore Mama's Place! I've NEVER had anything bad there. It's all excellent food
Excellent food at great prices and wonderful service from friendly ladies!
The food was really good, had a nice waitress, and overall its one of my favorite restaurant... Would recommend🔥
The food is always so fresh and delicious! We live out of town and every time we visit here we get burritos.
Great place to eat, burguers are really tasty , french fries are good too! Fajita burritos, good!! The girls are nice
Very nice people, it's family owned and they only use fresh produce and meat. If I didn't live 100 miles away , I'd eat there everyday.
The food is ALWAYS amazing! It's like going home to my Grandma Rosa's at eat
Great find! A short 15 minute walk from the truck stop and we’ll worth it. Very friendly service and excellent breakfast!
They have very good breakfast. Everything test delicious. My family and I we love this place...
They are always the best and so kind !!
I loved the food. The staff was good and helpful and i loved the breakfast burrito
My friend told me about this place. It came highly recommended. The food is great. Kind of a hole in the wall, but those are my favorite kind of places. The chips and salsa were both warm and fresh, which impressed me. I had the beef enchiladas and loved them. The beans and rice were good, and the tortillas are great too. I’m going to have a breakfast burrito next time. I heard they are really good as well, and BIG.
The place is small but has some very good tacos The beans have a homey taste, I left very full and very happy. If I'm in that area, I'll definitely come back again
Delicious, quick fresh and super friendly staff!
Went for a half day road trip from Ft Worth to explore Texas. We decided as our first stop to explore Italy, TX and in searching found Mama's Place as a place that was not a chain restaurant. Got there and found that it is a small unassuming place with simple good food and great service. In the attached photo you can see, my wife got a burrito(they have many breakfast and lunch burrito options). I chose the Huevos Rancheros plate with corn tortillas. The eggs, salsa, refried beans and potatoes were great! I used the tortillas to sop up the last few bites as I cleaned the plate and I was VERY happy with the food. I would highly recommend stopping in here to eat or get food to take with you the next time you are in Italy!

Great home cooked meal! Highly recommend Mama's Place!
DIOS MIO! This is the best local Mexican food in Ellis County, in little ol' Italy, TX. Three of my former students run Mamma's Place with Mayra's cooking, and her sister's Wendy and Claribel delivering the fresh, hot plates of authentic comida. The homemade flour tortillas are perfect especially when wrapped around the fresh ingredients--beef or chicken fajitas, fresh guacamole, cilantro, whatever you want on a burrito--just tell them. Breakfast burritos are the way to start the day with egg, potatoes, cheese, bacon, etc....whatever you want, the three sisters can deliver. (Mamma is actually Mayra's mother-in-law who started the business when the girls were in high school.) Burritos are not the only bill of fare. Enchilada plates, beef and chicken fajitas, street tacos, carne guisada are served up with refried or regular beans, Spanish rice, and two types of salsa: traditional red and dynamite green (I LOVE the green!) I'm not sure but I know in the past they have served several traditional foods such as menudo and lengua but I have never tried it; not sure it's still on the menu. Their hours are like 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. We are so sad they don't stay open for dinner/supper but they have families too and can't work constantly. If you go by in the late afternoon you'll see them making those homemade flour tortillas and oh my God...they are huge and they melt in your mouth.
Best burritos I've had hands down here in Texas thus far, and they make their own in-house tortillas, which either makes or breaks a burrito literally, lol. Will definitely be back!
Went out of town for the weekend and our family wanted to do lunch in italy. The people were very kind and gave a very home like and pleasant atmosphere. After a reasonable wait time for our meals, which indicated everything was made to order. I ordered the rooster burrito and was very impressed. Mostly by the potatoes being cooked to near perfection. Will stop by in the future for the enchilada pie.!!!
Super great bean and cheese burritos and egg bacon potatoes and cheese breakfast burritos (havent tried anything else but im sure its also good), hands down the best tortillas out there that I have ever gotten to eat. The service is really quick but the food still holds it’s quality I really would suggest trying this place out if you havent somehow already.
Very friendly hostess with excellent customer service. Facility was clean and the food smells delicious even before we came inside. This is a mom and pop local establishment and not your run of the mill chain restaurant. The food is cooked to order and piping hot! Do not pass this place by!!! Delicious!!
Very nice experience! Food is fresh, service is good, and prices are humble! For a small town this place I'm sure brings many smiles. Thank you for a great breakfast.
Great food. Great service. Great price. Great place to eat.
Mammas Place serves amazing homemade Mexican food which includes homemade tortillas and sauces. The flavors are authentic and as close as you can get to experiencing true Mexican food. The breakfast burritos are huge and incredibly tasty. They have several choices and my favorite is the chorizo, egg, potatoes with their green sauce. My personal favorite lunch menu plate is the shrimp tacos. They are made on homemade corn tortillas with shrimp, cilantro, onions and fresh slices of avocados. The refried beans and rice are perfect and Mammas take no shortcuts in their food preparation. We've been going here for 20+ years. The service is very friendly.

Great true Mexican food fixed from scratch only down side is during hot summer days the interior gets pretty warm forcing the window units to take the edge off. Also they recently took Lengua off the menu because it cost too much to make it and make a profit at the price they felt fair to charge for the street tacos or burritos. Do your taste buds and stomach a favor and get yourself some great food
Authentic Mama's food. My husband and I had the mixed fajitas; large gulf shrimp, tender steak, and moist chicken. I would have given this place 5 stars but the salsa was too watery, but was served hot and that was yummy.
I visited Mammas on a Saturday for lunch. It was busy! Parking was difficult. The service was friendly, but a little overwhelmed. I received my chips, salsa, and drink promptly. The food took a while. It was all very tasty. All I can recommend is, don't be in a hurry. Momma prepares all the food from scratch, and that can take time. 😋

Pretty good burritos! I prefer potato, bacon, and cheese. The eggs are kinda eh. That being said, although the actual business hours state they open at 0600, they're usually there early so you can order sometimes as early as 0540.
What a great find! We were driving and saw a sign for Italy and got off the highway and found this cute little restaurant that looked like it was a place where mostly locals eat. It definitely is a local restaurant and super good food, though mediocre service as our server never returned after bringing the food to our table. After sitting down with menus, our server took our order. I had the shrimp taco plate with rice and beans. The shrimp tacos had onion, lettuce, and avocado in a soft flour taco shell. Delicious! The rice and beans were also good and the rice seemed different than any other rice I've had in any other Mexican restaurant. My mother had a street taco plate with beef fajita meat in corn tortillas since she has a gluten allergy. Her food came out quickly and was good, though her beef seemed a bit dry and needed a sauce. The lime slices helped a little bit. Overall a good meal and a needed stop! Highly recommend a stop if you are passing through the area and suddenly need food, stop here at Momma's Place.
Only one cook, so it takes a bit longer for food but otherwise, good.

Me and my family came here for breakfast one time. Don’t think we’ll be coming back. The service wasn’t so good, the food was ok, not great but ok. And it took FOREVER for our food to arrive.
Actually 0 stars... Salsa tasted like canned and the queso was just watered-down canned cheese sauce nothing added and the tea tasted like they put a pound of sugar in it. Worst place ever... Very slow service
I did not get my food! I only ordered a burrito! No refill on coffee, waitress was rude! I waited 15 minutes, 4 customers came in after me and had breakfast eggs and potatoes! They received their food prior to us! Not friendly and rude waitress!!!!
I took my family there for breakfast & had the worst food, worst service I’ve experienced from a small town Mexican joint. They charged us $55 for 2 adult plates and a kids plate, when the total off the menu should have been a little over $30. When I asked about the absurd total, she denied me a receipt. Truly felt cheated and robbed
Breakfast: Terrible service. She Wouldn’t make coffee. Waited long. Two tacos. Cheese/bean; egg/pot/bean on small flour tortillas. Dr Pepper ; water. $14.50. Extra 1$ each for flour!!! Not noted on menu. I think she was just changing charges bc didn’t like us. Not local. Waitress rude and didn’t want us there. Served after others who came in later. Shameful. Do not stop in Italy Texas!!! Waste of $$$ and time!! . . And you’re treated disrespectively.
This PLACE IS HORRIBLE AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE RUDE I WOULDNT EVEN GIVE THEM 1 STAR .!!!!!! $40 for 2 adults and 2 KIDS THEN 2 tacos itty bitty tiny and they didnt wanna give the money back flat ouT RUDE DO NOT GO HERE LIKE EVER
