We visit this restaurant along with some friends frequently. It is wonderful. The staff are amazing and friendly. So you get excellent service. The food is delicious. They have a good variety to choose from and great portion size. Pricing is very reasonable. I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice cold margarita and phenomenal food.

We had a group of about 25 walk in at 1:00. They were packed with lunch crowd. **FYI. they DO NOT take reservations on weekends, no matter what the person on the phone says.** They actually were able to accommodate us in less than 30 minutes. The staff were great. Every one raved about their food orders. Will be back!

We went here for lunch. We all got something different, and it was all good. The meat on the beef street tacos was very good. I got the light plate with a taco and tostada. I added some sliced pickled Jalapeños and it was just awesome. My husband loved their salsa verde. He put it all over his beef enchiladas as well as eating it with chips before the entrees arrived. They had great chips, too. Service was awesome. We will be back!

El Mexicano is nowhere near our usual haunts, and we were delighted to find it on Google search. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant. All of our food was good from the requisite chips and salsa, the margaritas, and my tasty shrimp and spinach enchiladas. Midway through the meal, a 3 man band came in to sing. The music drowned out our conversation, and one band member came by our table requesting tips. I did not appreciate that action, but it was the only glitch in our visit. We'll be back.

Theres not a better way to end the night! On the way back from Waco to Dallas, I searched the nearby cities along the route on Google maps and found this 💎 along the way. I've tried molcajete plates, but this 👌 was the best, it was topped with melted cheese and a red sauce that put all the flavors together. Oh and it also came in flames 🔥📛. My compliments to the chef, those charro beans were on point by the way . They have an extensive menu, all the kids got something they wanted. They also have a bar (therefore the name cantina), and a good atmosphere. The Playlist machine just kept playing good music 🎶 and we all had a lot to be thankful for. My Friend and I went to Waxahachie on an awesome motorcycle ride from Cleburne on Saturday the 24th of May. We took the most scenic route: Hwy 4. As we walked around, we came across this restaurant. We knew this was the place we would be having our lunch. El Mexicano Grill did not disappoint. The ambience was good, the service was great, the food was fantastic, and the portions were phenomenal. My friend and I ordered the same thing: Carne Guisada, except I added a little twist to mine. I added nopales and grilled jalapenos. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We had a blast!!!

As a mexican myself, I 100% recommend! The enchiladas are my favorite! I love how authentic and good the food tastes. The service is great although when we ordered a margarita our waitress forgot. The place is a little small but not very. It’s nice and clean! Definitely one of my top ten favorite mexican restaurants

What a great and affordable restaurant to eat at! My coworker told me about this place and a month or so later me and my boyfriend has eaten here two times in one week! Three times within a month!! We arrived almost 30 min early befor our party. Luckily the ladies there were so sweet to get our table ready early for such a large group. I was able to order some guacamole and queso and drinks while we waited. As soon as the rest of our party arrived we ordered our food and it was served pretty quickly considering how big a order it was. Thank you so much for making our Aunts/Nieces day a little bit more special.

Everything about this place is fabulous. I live an hour away, but it's worth the drive. The staff, atmosphere, and food makes it a great, comfortable spot to relax and enjoy.

My order was complete, delivery was perfect AND I received a large bowl of what I think is caldo de res beef soup in a reusable bowI that I did not order. Not sure if the additional soup was a gift or mistake, however, it was a nice surprise given the current weather conditions. I have dined in and ordered to go/delivery for over a year.. zero complaints. Awesome food and service.

We really enjoyed our food here. There was two different salsa (one fresh and one cooked) and the chips where delicious. We ordered the fresh guacamole that was made at our table that was good. Every dish that our family got, they enjoyed them. Some of the best Mexican food that I have had in Texas. The refried beans had a smoke flavor that my daughter didn't like, but I thought they where good. Our server wasn't very on top of taking care of us and we had to hunt her down a few times. Other than that, I would totally go back.

This place was delicious! We dropped in later on a Sunday morning after looking at a bunch of breakfast places, but they all had long wait times. No wait time, served right away, huge portions! Best charro beans ever! We had the al pastor mini tacos, menudo, tacos al carbon, and queso flamedo. All were on point and so good! Try the mixed tortillas, a combination of flour and corn!

What an amazing hole in the wall restaurant. Nothing flashy or elaborate but they make up any unsightly appearances with their amazing food, salsa, fresh corn tortillas, and insanely tender/ flavorful steak. Was blown away by every bite I took. Me and my wife looked at each other and cannot name a Mexican restaurant we have tasted better food at. Highly recommend to anyone in Waxahatchie.

The chicken nachos paired with the chicken tacos were absolutely amazing — flavorful, fresh, and perfectly portioned. The food prices were quite reasonable and offered great value for the quality. However, I found the cocktails to be just okay — nothing particularly special, and the prices were on the higher side compared to the rest of the menu. If you're going mainly for the drinks and are price-conscious, you might want to keep that in mind.

We had such a great experience at El Mexicano Grill! The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the space was clean, comfortable, and spacious — perfect for a relaxed meal. The live guacamole was a fun touch! It was made fresh right at our table and completely customizable. We asked for no jalapeños, and they happily adjusted it for us. The burrito was massive and packed with flavor — definitely come hungry! The chicken and steak fajita combo was another standout, with both meats cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Plus, it’s a protein-lover’s dream. And let’s talk about the chips, queso, and salsa — hands down the best I’ve had in a long time! Just moved to town, trying out one of the few places listed as open on a Sunday. When we walked in, we were greeted immediately, told to sit anywhere and the server came over to take our drink order. We got the drinks quickly and some chips and salsa, we ordered some queso for it as well, I enjoyed the queso, my fiance said it was missing something and scooped in some hot salsa and said it was better. I was complaining about lack of pineapple earlier in the day and low and behold they had a Hawaiian fajita on the menu so I ordered that and my fiance ordered a steak one. I asked for no beans, just the rice and it came out exactly as I ordered. The meal itself was good, the pineapple hit the spot, there was some good char on the meat giving the perfect amount of flavor addition. At first I was questioning why only 3 tortillas, as there was definitely more than would fit in them in the cast iron skillet it was served on. But I probably could have stopped at 2 and been fine. But I will admit I ate all three. My fiance liked her food and she saved enough for dessert of fried ice cream. Fried ice cream isn't my normal cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. We will definitely come back to try some other menu items, first time out the food and service was great!

We eat at this location alot and have for the past 5-6 years. Good salsa, 2 types. Service is usually good(the last time it was someone new and was kinda rough) they fixed any issue was had. Good food. Fajita special on Thursday as well as discount longneck bottles. Quality chips too.

First impressions were good. Waiter didn’t pay too much attention to us, it was lunch time so it was busy. When I got my food it wasn’t too hot which was disappointing but it was okay. The flavor is there, but it is hard to get to through the oil on the food. The rice was very flavorful. The service was pleasant, but the server lacked detailed knowledge of the menu. The Chips and salsa were hot and fresh. I wanted to give them more stars, but I also wanted better food. This review is my opinion.

Been eating here for years and good and service is always good. My most recent visit when receiving the check, it seems they like other Texas busines have decided to pass along what should be a business expense to the customer and charge a fee for using a card vs cash. Prior to 2018 this was illegal to do in Tx and was considered a business expense for accepting cards. As far as I know its still a tax deductible expense, yet business have figured out they can actually make a little money off charging customers a fee for usimg a card, b/c not every card assesses the same fee. As usual, I tipped my server in cash, bit I decided to pass the fee along to her, so her 20% was $7 less than due to the fee the business charged me for the card usage. I'll still eat here, I'll just remember to bring cash next time...

Tried this place out for the 1st time because I was in the area & it had good reviews. Seemed like a nice local place to eat. Everybody was nice & cordial. It took a few min for us to get our waitress. Our drinks were served fast, but then after that it took 38 min to get enchiladas, tacos & quesadillas. We watched everybody around us get their food that had sit down after us & before us. After we got our food it was all seasoned well. The drinks were also really good. We got got our food but we were missing tacos that we also ordered. The waitress said that the runner left to go home at exactly 3pm & that's why it didn't come out. We're gonna chalk this experience up to a bad day. We'll be back to try again some time down the road.

Went for lunch in November 2025. The restaurant is cozy. The service was good. The food was average.

The first time we came here was for lunch on a Saturday morning. Slow service, waited over an hour to get our food on Wait staff never asked if we needed more drinks, never updated us as to why we were waiting so long for our food the food was good. Today we had lunch the service was better However, the good was horrible I order a tostada and Gordita both were horrible it didn’t look like a real tostada or Gordita the meat had a weird taste the Gordita had a weird shape and was super greasy I’m very disappointed will not eat there again.

Heartbreakingly bad “Mexican” food. The “queso” is velveeta, the salsa is sweet and the chips are from HEB. One salsa that is like habanero flavored is pretty good. My “enchiladas” really shouldn’t be called that. They basically consisted of their fajita meat rolled up in a flour tortilla. Ugh. I asked for corn and the tortillas weren’t even warm, much less baked as enchiladas should be. The refried beans were water thinned and tasted like the can. The rice was ok with salsa on it. My husband had the chili rellano and he said it was edible. Oh gosh. It’s really a shame because the atmosphere is great and the service was excellent. I honestly felt bad for the good and hard working staff. Our server was kind, professional and overall very friendly.

This was my first, and last trip to this establishment. I have worked for years as a server and have the utmost respect for the work that they put in, I start with a baseline 25% tip barring very bad service. It is no exaggeration to state that this was some of the worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant. First, ordered a bowl of queso and Guacamole as an appetizer. We received the queso, and when the server came to take our orders I asked if the server had heard (because of the noise) that we had ordered an appetizer of Guacamole to which our server simply nodded in response. By this point, all of our drinks were empty, but the server had brought the table waters in place of the beverages which we ordered. We never received another refill. When we received our food, we still had not received our Guacamole appetizer, one entree came without beans, one came with charro beans despite having ordered refried, the fajita skillet came out cold to the touch, same as the meat on the platter. There were no tortillas delivered with our fajitas. After our food was dropped off, there was no check in to our table for over 5 minutes, at said point I had to go to the server station to ask for tortillas wherein I expressed we needed flour tortillas, afterwards we were brought corn tortillas to which our server tried to tell us they were flour which they were very clearly not. At this point, I decided it was worth bringing to the attention of the manager. I waited at the bar for a few minutes (completely understandable on a Saturday night) and the moment I attempted to explain to the manager what all had gone wrong I was told "no, you're wrong that never happens - which table are you at?" I gestured to the table and then the manager went to our table and proceeded to tell us that we didn't order the things we did and that all of the mistakes were our fault and were offered nothing further. Upon receiving the ticket, where a lemonade was ordered it was charged as an aqua fresca which was $2 more than a soft drink. We asked the manager about this and were told that the prices for the drink were the same and once again we were mistaken. At this point we felt the two dollars was lost and the best course of action would be to never patronize this establishment again and warn others.

I ordered “chicken fajita” tacos, and got this….wet, cold, wrap with dry, flavorless chicken, and was charged $15. What a waste

We went there for dinner and had horrible service. The restaurant was not busy and it took a long time to get refills and our orders. To pay the bill, we finally gave up on waiting for the server and walked to the unattended hostess table to try to pay there. Don’t recommend this place at all.

So the website says they close at 12am on Friday. I get there at 11:15, and I’m turned away by one of the servers saying that they close the kitchen at 11, and only the bar is open. They need to reflect that online if true. However, I honestly feel that he lied because he didn’t want to serve me. There was a table that another waiter was taking an order at and they didn’t have food yet and was placing an order to get food. I usually don’t leave reviews but I had to because I’m tired, frustrated, was looking for something to eat to take home after work and to find this place was open, drive there just to be sent away was very upsetting. Especially when others are being serviced. Almost felt sort of like discrimination as well. Again, I usually don’t leave reviews but I had time tonight.

This was our first time at this location because the other Waxahachie location was closed, which is way better. Our waiter was good but the fact that I could see everything that was happening in the kitchen was a little disturbing. My Mexican Cocktail sat under the light for about 7 minutes and then was brought to us. I saw mine and my husband food get put up to come to us but another waitress and our waiter were fighting over my plate and needless to say she took my plate to her customer. So our waiter came over and told us there was a misunderstanding and my food is being remade. Remind you my husband food is still sitting under the lamp. So 10 minutes later, we both get our food. My sour cream enchiladas looked like they had sat out and then microwaved. It was completely nasty. It had been warmed up so much that the sour cream had burned around the edges. Told our waiter and then the waitress that took my food came over and asked if they could make me something else. Told her no because she took my food to someone else and at this point I was done. She didn’t have a response. So needless to say, I will not be back to this location.

To start out the service was horrible with the waitress we got!! Other folks came in after us was getting there food before we even got drinks. When we did get drinks have of them were wrong and had to wait even longer to get that corrected. We decided when she came back with drinks we would order. We ordered and once again the order was wrong for half of us, due to her being slow and bringing the wrong stuff we decided just to eat what they brought. After 20 mins sitting there waiting for our check we decided just to walk up and pay. When asked how dinner was we advised them and was told we were the first to complain.

I had order delivery I ordered cheese enchiladas platter and ended up receiving dry chicken enchiladas I ordered guac and it was horrible I'm not the kind of person to complain and very easy to please not picky at all but I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy I paid 30 something dollars for this meal and apparently should have just made a bologna sandwich for dinner if you're on a very tight budget such as myself please don't waste your money on this restaurant

Great presentation of cocktail but it took forever and The paloma tasted like Sprite. Be sure to tell them no tajin if it's not your thing because it was covered it in. I ordered 3 tacos but only got two. 😕 Asked if it came with guacamole and server said yes. It did not. 😒 My order came out at least 5 minutes after the rest of my party (1 shrimp taco, 1 marinated beef). The shrimp was high quality and fresh BUT they charged me extra for beef without telling me in advance. Went after an event at the Texas Motorplex and maybe it was just bad service because it was the end of the night. I'll never know.

Hole in the wall with bad food. The enchiladas were good but good lord the queso might as well have been water. The salsa tasted like beans like why?!?!?. The chips eh. Def recommend somewhere else.

This place is a bar posing as a restaurant. Music so damn loud i couldn't hear the waitress,was so cold you could have hung meat in there.whoever runs this place needs to decide if they want a bar or a restaurant. And by the way my wife barfed up her meal before we left.dont know how this place has the reviews it has.

Place was very busy , we saw an empty booth and asked if we could sit because there was no host , when we asked her they ignored us . Finally we sit , ask for margaritas but we forgot our IDs so we weren’t served . Can’t blame them on that because we just turned 21 anyways . We decided to get our tab and see we are charged for salsa they gave our table without request . I asked them if they could take it off simply because we didn’t ask for it and we didn’t eat it . They said no because we sat inside they have to charge for it . Still tipped our server more than half the bill simply because christmas is coming up and i’m also a server I hate working near the holidays .

I've been coming to Mexicana Grill for awhile. We got seated but after eating somesalsa & chips, I saw a large dead cockroach on the floor. I told our waitress who was talking with the busboy & another waitress that we are moving tables bec of dead cockroach. No help in moving us. No one took the dead 🪳. I was paying & I told the waitress that I'm surprised no one took the dead 🪳. She said she thought I said I was moving bec the table was moving. I said now the table is occupied & there's still the problem of dead cockroach. I will not come back to this restaurant again. This was not pleasant. I did not see a mgr.
