Opinions de Maxie's Supper Club & Oyster Bar Ithaca
I really enjoyed dining at Maxie's. The oysters were fresh, nicely presented and delicious. The tuna steak was crazy good. Old fashioned was perfectly made with top shelf bourbon and a clear cube. The servers tag teamed to keep the service level high. I really like that. Our primary server was friendly and engaging. Highly recommend.
Delicious food!! Great cocktails and really nice service. A gem in a small town. Can't wait to go back!
One of the best restaurants in Ithaca. Maxie’s truly brings an authentic and delicious southern seafood experience to Upstate NY. The quality of the food I had was exceptional, with a nice cozy atmosphere to go along with it. If you’re in the area, this is a must-try. I started with a dozen oysters; they were big and fresh and just delicious. I had the ahi tuna for my main course which served a perfectly-seared rare piece of delectable tuna paired perfectly with a maple butter. One of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time.
I may well have reviewed before, but Google is prompting me again and I adore Maxie's so much I'll give it a go again. Absolutely excellent Cajun food. Fried green tomatoes are a must-have appetizer. The fried chicken is famous for a reason. Truly, though, great food all around. Fish tacos, po'boys, clams, what-have-you... Atmosphere is lively and comfortable. Having had a first date here, then wedding rehearsal dinner for that aforementioned date, makes this place sentimental. But the only reason we keep choosing it to be our special place is how freaking good everything is!!!
Always delightful, if anything, Maxie's has upped their game. Had a hard time narrowing it down and still ended up with too much, but everything is so delicious. Cocktails are amazing too. The patio was a great place to eat, even in pouring rain - new canvas kept it warm and dry in there. Service was friendly and flawless. Can't wait to come back again!
I need to sing Maxie's praises for a minute here. The entire staff deserves accolades for handling our large group with professionalism and patience. I made a reservation for 6, but then colleagues asked if they could join. I called, and the staff said they could change the reservation to 8 on the same day. Awesome. Then 2 more colleagues appeared at the restaurant while we were being seated, and the staff again accommodated us. All of our orders were perfect, everyone raved about the food (all but 2 of us were out-of-towners), and we had such a fun time. Please give our deepest thanks to your entire staff. I'm so impressed with Maxie's every time I visit, and this time was no exception.
The ambiance is great and so is the music. The food was amazing but I didn't care for the creamy slaw only because I don't like that much mayo. I had the fried haddock dinner and I can't say enough about how excellent it was The server Shannon was one of the best I've ever had. She made my dining experience so much more pleasant. I can't wait to go back there. When company comes to town, that's where I'll take them.
Oh. My. Goodness. This was some delicious food. We started with some raw oysters which were incredible of course. They had three different types from NE states. Then we enjoyed peel and eat shrimp and steamed clams. My husband was drinking the juice from the bowl it was that yummy. I had their special which was striped bass and it was legitimately phenomenal. The beers and drinks were awesome to boot which made it an all around great experience. The best part though was the SERVICE. Our waitress was lovely and attentive and kind. We noticed that multiple people greeted us when we walked in, as well. The same when we were leaving. Little things like that make you want to come back again and again. Overall fantastic dinner. If you are in Ithaca, stop here!!!
My wife and I visited the restaurant last night in celebration of our anniversary. We sat at the bar and had a fantastic time! Our bartenders, Caleb and Bobby were awesome. Both were personable and efficient. We had some happy hour food, raw oysters, crab cakes, and fish tacos. Everything was delicious. Caleb even made my wife a specialty cocktail which was out of this world. Although we don't get the chance to come to this restaurant as often as we like, we are never disappointed. Thank you so much for maintaining a high standard for food and service. We'll definitely be back ASAP.
Love stopping here for happy hour! Best oysters around! Amazing peel and eat shrimp. Good drink selection. Regular menu is full of great options, too. Cool atmosphere with awesome staff! Highly recommend reservations!
Great food. Can recommend the steamed clams as an appetizer and the catfish entree. Can get quite busy but service is pretty quick on the weekdays. Other good dinner options include the fish fry and jambalaya. Don't forget to try the cornbread!
The service was outstanding and the food A1. The poboy fried oyster sandwich was delicious I paired it with a house special drink Maxie Rita It was absolutely delicious.my husband had the crab clam chowder soup with Cajun fries he also paired it with the Maxie rita he said it was also delicious. we will be returning soon.
I love sitting in the bar area, more of a city feel, not a fan of the dinning room vibe, but the food is always great, staff is always fast and kind. It’s one of my favorites in town.
Great Cajun fusion food here! I really like the ahi tuna and the cornbread is also quite delightful. If you like oysters they do have a raw bar and raw bar happy hour with $2 half shell oysters. It can get pretty packed so I recommend making a reservation
Absolutely fantastic. Service was lovely and the food arrived quickly. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! It was heavenly. The cornbread is so good. Our server was kind and in a good mood, and the atmosphere was comfortable.
Maxi’s Supper exceeded our expectations! We started with the fresh oysters, which were absolutely delicious. The highlight of our meal was the tuna dish—it was cooked to perfection. Our waitress, Kristy, was incredibly friendly and attentive. She truly made our dining experience special. Highly recommend!
Waiter Benny was excellent and personable. Good oyster and clam prices with early dinners. Southern cooking oh yes!
We went to Maxie's on a busy Friday night (Concert down the street at the State Theater) and the inital impression was somewhat chaotic, but the staff had it well managed. Our server was prompt and quite pleasant given how busy the restaurant was. All three plates we ordered were outstanding -- the shrimp and grits was rich and tasty, the blackened rub red trout special was perfectly prepared, and the collards were the best we've had. The only knock I'd give the restaurant is on their mixed drinks. My ol fashioned had far too much ice in it, and my partners Bloody Mary was average, with now rim, and not enough spice. But, we would happily return, order beers, and enjoy the delicious food!!
Our favorite restaurant to visit in Ithaca! The oysters are always amazing. The creole style food is delicious. I had the shrimp and grits last time I was there and it was really good. They always have a good local beer selection and the service never disappoints. If you're visiting in the summer months just beware that there's no air-conditioning. They do bring in extra fans on really hot days though.
Really good food and feels New Orleans. Best place in the area for sure. Service was wonderful. You have to check it out to get it. I like the decor. It’s very old schooled. But I do think they can update the place a little bit and make it cleaner.
Our recent visit to Ithaca after an extended absence was a delightful experience. We were pleased to find Maxi's Supper Club still operational. The culinary offerings, particularly the oysters, were, as always, exceptional. The ambiance and service were also of the highest quality. Our gratitude extends to Benny and the entire team.
My boyfriend and I loved the nova Scotia oysters! Amazing service top tier
Super fresh oysters and clams. We sat at the bar and got right in. The staff was so friendly! The menu is unique, great atmosphere- almost reminiscent of places in the French quarter in New Orleans (but better!). Maxie’s is an Ithaca gem.
Had a great meal of oysters, steamers and shrimp. Absolutely love that they use freshly grated horseradish, it makes all the difference for the oysters. Our server was very attentive. Would love to go back the next time we're in the area.
We are from New Orleans and our hosts were worried that we would be disappointed. Not so! Food was terrific. Great sauce on the ruby red trout and the horseradish cake and mashed potatoes were delicious.
For our last night in Ithaca, we went to Maxie's and left completely stuffed. I had a crabcake appetizer and a special (ruby red trout) that was great. My husband had a bowl of gumbo and jambalaya (not his best decisions since both were rice-based). I had a tipsy gardener drink that was phenomenal. This was a good change of pace during our road trip.
The fried oysters are amazing. Nice raw cold water oysters as well. No wait early in the day. Staff was friendly, accommodating, and attentive!
Went on a Monday night, nice and quiet..we had drinks with a friend and the service was great
Went back to Maxie’s tonight to give it a try and when I tell you it was fantastic that would be an understatement. Phenomenal service, amazing food and just a great experience. The server was so nice and the food was tasty from the crab cakes all the way to the warm bread pudding. I can’t wait to go back because it’s now one of my favorite places to eat in Ithaca. Bravo Maxie’s!
My boyfriend and I stopped here on a whim looking for something good to eat. We were immediately seated by the host who was super welcoming, and greeted by the rest of the staff. The food was amazing, we started with broiled oysters and crab & corn chowder (Both a must-have). The meals were also amazing and the gravy was out of this world. Our sweet waitress was very attentive and the service was impressive. We’ll be back for sure.
Cozy and softly lit, this place is a hub of exciting noise and wonderful smells. no wonder it's packed on a regular night. ordered the raw oysters to start, and was delighted with the choices available(it rotates). fresh, flavorful, and came with three options for dipping! nice. the cocktail sauce has a little spice kick, which i enjoyed. tha jambalaya was my main dish. the rice was cooked perfectly, seasoned very well, and with a beautiful burnt orange color. the shrimp were beautifully tender and plump, chicken charred to perfection, and the sausage was, of course, the star of the flavor show. with chunks of pepper, tomato, and onion, the dish was a huge hit with me. lastly, the chocolate cake. holy butts. one layer of cake, and a thick spread of chocolate ganache, covered in shining chocolate glaze and served with raspberry sauce and cream, this is an incredibly rich dessert. chocolate lovers will love it, i sure did. all in all, Maxie's is great for family dinners, birthday meals, and date nights, so long as you enjoy the ambiance of a bustling business with plates of tasty heaps(my serving was pretty big, not that i'm complaining). the staff are lovely, friendly, and non pretentious, treat them well!
If you come to Ithaca and skip Maxie’s you’ve missed out big time. This place knows how to cook! Delicious Po boys and cold seafood. The sauces are nothing short of divine and the service goes above and beyond to make your visit perfect! Our server Bennie was top notch! If you’re lucky enough to be served by them you’re guaranteed a five star experience! ENJOY!
Just had an absolutely fantastic meal here! The oysters were so fresh and some of the best I’ve had. I got a special Cajun ruby red trout dish that was cooked to perfection with an amazing meld of flavors. My partner got the tried and true shrimp po boy and grits which was also delicious. Service was fantastic and atmosphere always great. Looking forward to going back.. kudos to the chef!!
Comfortable and worn in in all the right ways. Had a pan-seared Barramundi special that was too notch, including all of the included sides. Wasn’t sure what to expect from this place but it turned out to be a wonderful spot to spend our last night in Ithaca. ❤️
Great blackened fish dish and unique drinks. Comfortable atmosphere in a historic building.
We have been up and down the east coast enjoying oysters for yearsss. When I tell you they have the BEST oysters I've ever had in my entire life I am not exaggerating!!! Everything we had was FRESH and absolutely spot on. We will always come back here when traveling through! Service was amazing as well and the happy hour prices can't be beat for the stellar quality. Cannot wait to return!
Such a cute place the food was amazing! We had the gumbo, the oysters, fried green tomatoes and the fried shrimp every dish was so good! Only disappointed that they no longer had music but the food made up for that!
Food was fantastic. Service was great. Only complaint is it is just a tiny bit too dark. A little candle on the table would be great. I had the Jambalaya. Loved it. Huge portion
Delicious seafood at a very nice establishment with fresh food and great service. The oysters were delicious and relatively affordable for fresh caught at 3.50/ea. We tried the special of the day which was a Barramondi and the Fried shrimp special, both of which were delicious and generous portions. A great vibe with awesome seafood and plenty of options to choose from, worth checking out for sure.
Had been wanting to try this place and it did not disappoint. Food was outstanding, such great flavors. Service was perfect, and patient. Can't wait to go back!
Babyyyy, I would give 7 stars if I could! I absolutely lovedddd my blackened catfish sandwich, the cornbread, the very friendly and helpful service, ooo I had a great time (alcohol-free)! I was so inspired, I went to the Wegmans every day I was in town to get catfish and made sandwiches in the Airbnb. Wish I were closer to give them all my money!
So I’ve traveled up here to Ithaca a number of times for my daughter’s swim meets over the last 2 years and have struggled to find a good dinner joint that wasn’t a chain. Tonight I wandered into Maxie’s......finally found that Gem in Ithaca!!! The staff were great, the food was awesome and the place had a good vibe. I had the oysters on the half shell (Blue Points from CT, Beach Plums from MA, & Spindrifts from MA), the Jumbalya, accompanied by an Ithaca Beer Co. Apricot Wheat Beer and an Old Fashioned. The oysters were fresh as can be and shucked properly (not like those places that leave chips and grit behind), and the Jumbalaya was littered with shrimp, chicken, and andouille cooked to perfection. My only criticism is that the drink was a bit small and skimpy on the whisky. All in all this is not only an ok for dinner spot but one I’d make sure to hit if you’re in the area!!! EXCELLENT!!!
Excellent comfort food in Ithaca. My friends loved the Jambalaya, Gumbo and Big Pig Gig 😅 They do half portions for most dishes which was very convenient to try more dishes The Sazerac Sazerac cocktail was delicious. They do have vegetarian/vegan options. But I was disappointed with the under flavored Vegan Jambalaya 😥
We went to Maxie’s Supper Club for happy hour that turned into dinner. Everything was lovely, the welcoming, the fresh oysters, clams, freshly grated horseradish, cocktail sauce and mignonette, and the classic Louisiana cuisine. We definitely will stop by again the next time we’re in town.. extra points for very attentive service, good music at just the right volume, and an excellent Makers’ Mark mule!
Visiting the area for the weekend and I’m glad we stopped here! If you like seafood packed with tons of flavor, then this is your place! Food was delicious and the service was top notch. Be sure to make a reservation ahead of time as you will need one. Highly recommend. Great spot!
The wife and I went here on a Friday night early (4pm) glad we had reservations because this place was hopping moments after we arrived. Incredibly attentive service from the moment we walked in. As far as food goes.. wow. Clearly fresh and quality ingredients used with all of their dishes. My fish fry was easily one of the best I've had in years. Nicely battered, not too thick and great taste. Fries are hand cut which means they are already 100times better than most out there. Great corn bread to start as well. Can't say enough good things. This is a new place on our list.
The best food in Ithaca hands down (and the only good seafood). I’m from Alaska so my bar for fresh seafood is high and Maxie’s had some of the freshest oysters and fish I have ever had! Cooked to perfection and the ambiance is so nice. Delightful experience. Do yourself a favor and step outside your comfort zone here. The shrimp&grits and jambalaya are delicious but their fish dishes (Ahi, specials, etc) are where they really shine.
My wife and I started with the oysters, which is why we chose Maxies. Not only were these delicious, sweet and briney, the horse radish was grated, fresh and tangy, adding to the taste. Our staff was attentive and very much on top of their game. Dinner was the best we had on our trip. Maxies should be on your list when you travel to Ithica
The fried tomatoes were really good, they were a little bit on the salty side but the lemon on the side helped. I got the bbq organic tofu po boy, my only complaint was that there was too much on top of the bread to actually be able to close the sandwich and eat it properly. It was very messy and inconvenient. The spicy Cajun fries were tasty, not crunchy but the seasoning was good. The sauce was also a great pairing. We also got the grits and gravy. The grits were cheese grits and gravy was on the side. Very good. The maple braised collard greens were the only thing that didn't pair the best. It was too sweet when the rest of the dish was savory it was almost as if it was meant for a dessert. At one point we were served a piece of cornbread and that was probably on of the best pieces of cornbread ive ever had. Service was also great. Worth coming back to again.
If you are visiting the Finger Lakes area do not miss this place!!! Truly a gem of a spot that transports you to New Orleans with southern comfort dishes like shrimp and grits, clams, corn bread and a raw bar!! 10/10 experience all around. Our kids loved the beads they had throughout the restaurant too- a hit for us all!
Highly recommend Maxie's for their oyster happy hour and expertly cooked seafood. The oysters were so fresh and the mignonette and cocktail sauce enhanced the flavor. We also got broiled oysters. The sauce was garlicky and herby and paired well with the grilled bread. For dinner we got the catfish meal and shrimp and grits. Everything was perfectly cooked and had amazing flavor. The shrimp and grits had more of a risotto texture than southern grits(just a note). The sauce was unique and really good. The catfish was seasoned well and the greens had a hint of sweetness from the maple. Would absolutely return!
Delicious food, fun and friendly atmosphere! If you find yourself in Ithaca, this place is definitely a must stop for food. The fresh raw oysters are a must try seafood lovers and their vegetarian dishes are exceptionl. If Creole style meals are your thing then you definitely want to check this place out!
I finally tried this spot for an early dinner. The food on the menu sounded so good, I was interested in trying it. On this visit, I ordered a hurricane cocktail. It was ok but I think I’ll lean differently next time. I wanted to play up the NoLa vibes, but I’m more of a whiskey girl. At the table, the first thing they give you is a small couple pieces of cornbread with a honey butter. The cornbread is served cold and it’s very dry. The honey butter was nice but it couldn’t save that cornbread. We had some raw oysters and fried green tomatoes as starters. The oysters were delicious and served on the half shell with ice and accompaniments of mignonette, cocktail sauce, and fresh shaved horseradish. The fried green tomatoes were served beautifully golden brown and crispy with a remoulade on the side. They had a nice flavor. While we were initially eyeing classic favorites like shrimp and grits or jambalaya, the evening special of barramundi was impossible to pass up. I’ve never eaten barramundi before, which was a perfect chance for me to try it. A quick phone search told me it’s like an Asian sea bass. I’m very familiar with Chilean sea bass, but not this kind. It was seasoned beautifully with a flavor profile combining herbs and butter in a light flavor letting the fish really shine. It was served on a bed of sautéed spinach, alongside a crispy potato cake (the potato cake is similar in size and shape to a crab cake). The sautéed spinach was delicious and garlicky. The potato cake was excellent, with a crisp outer crunch and an internal texture a little smoother than a hand mashed potato but not quite a purée. I was so glad I tried this dish, it was excellent and very light tasting. The potato made it a filling dish, which meant we didn’t go hungry. A great meal and the first of many!
First off - great food, drinks and staff! Although I've had several great dinners here over the years, the real hidden gem here is the bar's Happy Hour. Star of the show are the raw oysters / clams for the best price in town. They even have the fresh root for freshly shaven horseradish if you like it and a fantastic cocktail sauce on the side. Don't overlook the chilled / steamed peel-and-eat shrimp - honestly the best I've had without hearing the ocean while I eat them - they come well-dusted in Old Bay - perfect for auto-seasoning while you peel. While you're sitting at the bar, they have a great tap list and I highly recommend the only Hurricane I've found in town. Always friendly bartenders that are fast to shuck and pour! Shrimp, raw oysters with a Hurricane and I get a tropical vacation without leaving town. If you're not in the mood for Happy Hour, their Chicken-Fried-Chicken is great and they're famous for their Jambalaya.
Visited Ithaca from Rochester to catch the Wallflowers concert. We had dinner at Maxie's before the show. The food was excellent! The fried green tomatoes were a hit. The fried chicken meal with mashed potatoes and collard greens was out of this world. We also ordered a trout dish which was a daily special that came with a cheddar filled potato cake and it was so good! Definitely worth a visit.
We loved the atmosphere and the food. The reviews didn't steer us wrong. We thought the cornbread with sweet cream butter was delightful, but the shrimp and grits stole the show. It was an absolutely unforgettable dish. The peel and eat shrimp was also really tasty. We would highly recommend this cute establishment!
For appetizers we had fried green tomatoes with a remoulade and the steamed clams. The fried green tomatoes were incredible, crispy and a touch spicy with a flavorful remoulade. Clams were steamed in a garlic white wine with herbs and I wish I could've taken a bath in that broth. My dinner was a fried chicken po'boy on soft bread with lettuce & tomato, and a side of spicy cajun fries with a spicy mayo. The fries and mayo were fantastic, though I wish they'd pulled out the tiny nubs that were too overfried. The bulk of them were great. The fried chicken sandwich was crispy and... okay? But the breading wasn't seasoned and I feel like it didn't get salt out of the fryer. Draft beer was great-tasting. If you go during the summer, be prepared if you sit in the open sections of the dining room, it is WARM. But overall this wasn't my first time here and will not be my last. Fish tacos I had last time were to die for, but they were out this time. Highly recommended, but maybe pick something besides the fried chicken po'boy. Sad that the rest of the menu was so flavorful, it was kinda lifeless.
We enjoyed dinner at Maxie's on a Wednesday night. The service was wonderful and the food was solid. I can't say it was the best I've ever had, but it was tasty and I enjoyed the jambalaya. The cocktails shined as well, I got the Sazerac and a mojito - those and the Cajun fries were my favorites. It's a small restaurant and unfortunately we sat next to a large loud group, which definitely detracted from our experience, not the restaurant's fault of course. I would come again!
Oysters were excellent. Disappointed in the NOLA BBQ shrimp as they are nothing like what they should be. Seemed to be in the same roux as the shrimp and grits. The shrimp po boy was excellent but half the size it should be for the price. Service was excellent.
Very crowded during the Ithaca College family weekend. Reservations recommended. Great food, and wait staff were very attentive despite the rush. We enjoyed our meals at reasonable prices. Recommended to us by a former student employee, and did not disappoint.
I'm going to be honest. The boarded up top window of the building had me concerned, but they had great reviews. Bar area is the nicest part if the restaurant. Dining area and outdoor dining less formal. Service was outstanding and food amazing. Would absolutely go back. My husband said the seafood was super fresh and best shrimp and grits he ever had.
Great place to get some delicious soulful food that will leave you feeling good from your head to your toes! The salmon special is dynamite, the pulled pork is perfect every time, and the cornbread.... the best I’ve had from a restaurant. The only thing keeping me from giving this restaurant 5 stars- is that it’s difficult to eat in. In all fairness they are great at communicating, as the website does recommends to make reservations, they aren’t kidding!
Service - Amazing!! Corn Bread- Out of this world Oysters - Delicious RIBS- Delicious Pulled Pork - Pretty Good Pork & Beans - Alright Jambalaya “Me-Oh-My-A” - very Spicy, too much tomato sauce, Tasty but I couldn't finish it. Maxie’s Deluxe Crabcake - Delicious... Not really enough to share... only one decent size patty
Not what I was expecting but my meal was good. We specifically came to this establishment bc I found it on the Find me gluten free app. The majority of the food in the gf menu is no longer available and they informed me the "gluten free fries" were cooked in the same fryer as breaded food. I did get the only safe option if gluten free fish tacos. Tastey. The food was expensive for what we got but we were filled.
We miss the crawfish popcorn! The food is great but the seating in this place is terrible unless you like eating your food like a T-Rex Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes and the crab cakes. We used to love the New Orleans bbq shrimp but this time they gave us much smaller overcooked shrimp and the sauce has changed...perhaps there is a new head chef?
Loved this Southern spot! Ordered a lot of food but loved the gumbo, clams and the fried chicken -- the latter wasn't too oily and was delicious. The raw platter was also super fresh and tasty. Didn't care for the crabcake, but everything else was great. A little pricey but came away very satisfied.
Hands down the best food I had while vacationing in Ithaca. My mushroom meal & the coconut banana crème pie were both incredible. The only downside is we were seated in the back area which was an enclosed patio type room & it was SO HOT. They have a fan running but it didn’t help much; I was sitting there sweating.
Gumbo had a slight burnt taste, most waitress were nice. However, one of them was a bit rude and threw down our utensils. Also a very squished restaurant Overall a decent experience.
If I had to use a single word to describe the whole experience here it would "mediocre". Food was okay. Not exceptional. Nothing poor. Service was friendly and attentive.
We came here with a group of 8 with a reservation and were not told that there wouldn't be A/C. The restaurant has a cool section and not cool. We were told there wasn't space for 8 inside but I later saw a table of 8. Restaurant seating: Section without A/C was full of flies and hot as hell on a summer day. It made it impossible to enjoy the food. Food review Appetizers were good. Gumbo and crab corn chowder were hits. Entrees were a bit and miss. Seared ahi tuna was a miss. While the side dish of potato cake was the star the $34 tuna was completely underwhelming. The only way to eat this dish was mixing potato with the tuna itself to mask the tuna taste. Crab cakes were ok. Fried Chicken was a good option, shrimp and grits looked small but tasty. Ordered whiskey mule. I wasn't impressed. If you have a large group confirm if you can get ac on the inside
A lively place with fun vibe. The section with live music was too loud since its space is limited. But the other size was acceptable (still quite noisy though). We had a mixed experience with services and food here. One waitress seemed like she was in a really bad mood. The way she refilled water for me was so aggressive that water splash on my body. The other waitress, however, was very friendly and considerate. My friend left her take away box and this lady ran outside of the shop to stop us and give it to my friend. That was so nice! When it comes to food, my Cioppino was great. The crab's quality was high, certainly the best I've had in Ithaca. The bread slices was very delicious too. The soup and clams weren't particularly special. But with that crab, I finished the whole big plate in no time. Nevertheless, my friend's fried fish (no photo) here was unbearable. Not only that it was too salty (as if the whole box of salt was dropped by mistake), the fish was terribly burned. It felt like an extreme version of chacoal-grilled salted fish. Since our experience was mixed, I felt that it would be okay to go again on weekdays when the queue wouldn't be too long.
This was our first time going to Maxie’s after living in Ithaca several years. It was OK… Searing was a little cramped but the atmosphere was warm and cozy. We had 2 $12 cocktails, each of which was quite good and generous on the strength. Some of the food was good. We liked the collards (excellent). Chicken was good but the fish lacked some flavor. We did not have oysters and I think this is what a lot of people go for, so read some other reviews for that. Service was exceptional and the online reservation system meant our table was ready as soon as we arrived.
Service okay, staff was friendly, worst fish and chips I think I ever had. No seasoning, a bit greasy and they left the skin on the fish. 🤢
Food was terrible. Overcrowded and so dark almost needed a light to see menu. Staff was friendly
I was super excited to try this restaurant and was craving a fish fry but was unable to go in person. I tried to place an order for pick up over and hour in advance to give them plenty of time and was told I wasn't allowed to place an order because they MIGHT be busy when I wanted to pick it up. My fiance called them as well and they told him they just decide when they do or dont want to take orders for pick up. When he told them their website and Facebook clearly state they take carryout orders they just said they couldn't help us. We will never be going or trying again. This is not how you run a business.
