I’ve had fond memories of eating at this restaurant back in 2014 numerous times, I ate here once back in February 2018 and just ate here tonight (january 2021) and I really this is one of my favorite places to eat in downtown Kalamazoo. The service here is pretty good and there are a lot of amazing fixtures throughout the restaurant that help make it a cozy atmosphere and even tropical decorations at one section of the restaurant. For dinner tonight, I got the ribeye steak which was pretty good and I got a slice of their cat meow dessert which wasn’t too bad either. Another cool thing about this restaurant, at the entrance at the area before you get to the seating areas, there is an area where you can buy ice creams and other kinds of stuff here. Overall, I did enjoy my experience and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great place to eat in downtown Kalamazoo.

The food was great! I came here with my dad, and he said it was as good as he remembers. The service was stellar too! Our waiter accidentally spilled water on our crab cakes, and he gave us more for free! The interior is very cute as well :)

Every dish is delectable and just so well done. From the moment we walked in the door, we were welcomed with great service, a helpful server/hostess, and good atmosphere. You would not regret this experience!

This place is always amazing! The food is all made from scratch with locally-sourced and organic ingredients, the place is trendy and always super clean, and the service is par excellence! If you're in the 'Zoo, definitely make this one of your food stops!

Great farm to table restaurant. All of us at the table (8 adults and 2 kids) enjoyed the meals we got. The starters were well portioned and the mains were expertly constructed.

My breakfast dish was A-MA-ZING! I had eggs with spinach and artichoke served with a delicious orange-cranberry muffin! The service was first rate and the ambiance was great. Definitely one of my favorite Kalamazoo restaurants!

First visit and we'll definitely be back! The salmon dish my husband ordered was so delicious I could barely grab a taste before it was devoured! My Cobb Salad with steak was amazingly fresh and delicious but it's definitely something to share with the table.

Amazing place, incredible fresh entree's and their attention to detail is tops! If you have a private event, please choose this venue! Working with Megan was the icing on the cake. All details carefully planned out, great communication and incredible service. Highest praises for FoodDance!

This is a great place if you're looking for a high-end, fancy, restaurant that cooks great food. As with any high-end place, the food is more on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for that special occasion out. Since I live very close to this restaurant, I have eaten here many times for birthdays, special family events, and having dinner with a large group of friends [which they did a great job accomidating]. Each time I go, the food is consistently well prepared and tastes delicious. They have a good selection of food for both breakfast and dinner [haven't been here for lunch], and you can never go wrong. Along with the main food on the menu, they also have a front area that's a deli and bakery. Here they sell various meats [ex. prosciutto] and baked goods [cupcakes. cakes, pastries, etc.]. Although I have never purchased any meat from Food Dance due to its price, I love getting dessert from them because it's always amazing. I personally love their large cupcake, however, all their desserts look delicious. Along with food they also have some cute cooking utensils and whatnot. If you're looking for a fancy place to enjoy great food this is the place to go. Whether you're stopping by Kalamazoo, or need a fancy place to eat, there's something on the menu for everyone.

Cinnamon roll like no other French toast and biscuit and gravy was yummy. Under The Radar shared this great jewel and we will be back.💖

Lovely place with great food, drinks & staff! Everything tastes fresh and of great quality. Staff are friendly and even remember preferences you have. Wonderful place!

The food was amazing, along with the bloody mary i had. A little pricy for the portion sizes, my bloody was $10.

Loved this place! Has a great atmosphere, the food was fabulous and the service was great too. Prices were affordable, a little pricey on the desserts, but that's okay. It is kid friendly and they have a parking lot. Totally would recommend this place!

Top 5 breakfast spots in Kalamazoo. Everything is fresh and delicious. Also if you are looking for a cinnamon roll, look no further. Simply one of the best I have ever had! I would recommend the Mexican Scramble with Potato Rosemary bread.

My favorite restaurant in Kalamazoo, Food Dance always offers a wonderful meal, exceptional service, and DESSERTS! I really appreciate the transparency on where their food comes from. On busier days we try to get there early and expect a slightly longer wait for our meal to arrive.

Fun restaurant in downtown Kalamazoo. They have a nice, varied menu; several vegetarian options which was great. They also do a great job of sourcing food locally too. We had a party of four on a Saturday evening; they take reservations, which we had, and I'm glad we did...it was busy! Service was good, plenty of drink options, overall a really great dining experience. We will definitely be back.

My favorite place to eat in Kalamazoo. Service is always very good and I like how the interior is bright and well-lit. The proteins on the menu typically stay the same, but the preparation changes from time to time, and their fish specials have usually been good as well. They have a diverse enough menu that people with common dietary restrictions have more than one or two choices. Great drink menu, too. It does get busy on the weekends, so reservations recommended.

Great food! You definitely get what you pay for. Portion sizes are fairly large. The roasted chickpeas for an appetizer are a must. The homemade salad dressings are light and refreshing. The bread and butter was delicious. I had the feature pasta and it was perfect. Definitely enough for two meals. My husband had the loaded macaroni and cheese and it tasted fresh and amazing.

I hope they decide to open (darn pandemic). This is my favorite restaurant since they opened many years ago. Many family special moments celebrated at Food Dance. The menu is unique; food is consistently delicious; cocktails and wine the best. The staff are fantastic!

Delicious food, cool ambiance, and attentive service. The cheese appetizer was amazing! The cheese, almonds and herbed crackers were something we have never seen, or tasted before, to this quality! Just coming into the area for the weekend and we were so glad this restaurant was open late. Flat bread, lettuce wraps and salmon salad we're top quality in ingredients - definitely fresh and seasoned perfectly!

Absolutely fantastic service, delicious food and wonderful ambiance. Had the roasted brussel sprouts, fresh tomato soup, gorgeous hamburger and topped it off with and affogato and some apple crisp. Kirsten was an excellent server, consistently checking to see if anything was needed. Definitely a must stop for food when in Kalamazoo.

Interior decor is on point, whimsical and intriguing. Food is always good. Always. Wait staff are usually prompt and friendly, as well as knowledgeable about the food products they are serving. The dessert case it's die for. The meat and cheese selection is decent and there's a just a menagerie of little cool acoutrements for the larder in general. The food is fresh and a lot of it is locally sourced, which is pleasing. A bit on the pricey side if you're on a budget, but well worth the spending if you want a good dining experience!

Tonight was our first time we went to Food Dance but it certainly won't be our last. I got the creamy tomato soup and duck breast and my wife got the Bacon & blue burger with fries. The food was incredible; it tasted very fresh and was perfectly seasoned. The icing on the cake was the service we were provided. Our server, Cody, went above and beyond his duties as a server and make us feel very well taken care of; in the 5 years we have been married, he provided some of the best service ever. I hope he realized how much we appreciated the amazing job he did! A visit to Kalamazoo without dining here would be a sad one indeed! I highly recommend it.

What an amazing place! Fresh local ingredients, original dishes tasty and flavorful, great mixed drinks, one of few places that serves fresh squeeze OJ, I willing to say that it doesn't matter what you order, you can't go wrong. This will definitely be a regular place to dine at, plus service was excellent attentive and helpful can't wait to go and have another job incredible meal. Thanks!

The "farm to table" concept is done so well here. The food is delicious and the service is always friendly, fun and on point. The chick peas on the appetizer menu are worth a try - excellent and unique. One of the many terrific downtown dining options, make sure it is on your list to try.

We were incredibly impressed with the friendly, knowledgeable staff... But even more so with the quality of our food. The Whitefish Special and the Pasta Special with the fennel chicken sausage (which was 'orgasmic', according to my wife) we're both top shelf meals!

S

Really great food, great choices especially for vegetarians. They even make their own ketchup and mustard, both quite delicious. Service was extremely knowledgeable, even recommending the proper method to reheat the Mac-n-Cheese, which shows a thorough knowledge of food and ingredients. Top it off with Michigan brewery options, and a huge hit. My caprese was a bit too oily for my taste, but still delicious. Fries were great, small shoestring the way my wife likes them. It was our first time as we don't go to Kalamazoo at all, but I'd be willing to return for this restaurant alone. Great job.

Great restaurant that serves a wonderful breakfast/brunch with locally sourced products. They have a great mixologist who's created super yummy drinks and cocktails too. I'm sure the other meals are great too, just haven't tried them.

I loved this! I had the duck, presentation was beautiful. The tart cherries tasted like sour candy. The service was awesome. The drinks were great. The food was the best. I loved the decorations with all the hidden fairies. The fact that it all comes from local farms is the icing on a very delicious cake! This deserves all the high ratings it gets. Oh and the blueberry face in the men's bathroom made me laugh out loud.

We visited last night. In our opinion, the sign out front was kind of an eye sore and was a little misleading about the type of restaurant but once we got inside we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was nice and friendly. We weren't very hungry so my husband and I decided to share the pad Thai with a side of pomegranate wings. They split the pad Thai in the kitchen for us which was nice of them. We LOVED the pad Thai. Great flavor and a perfect amount. My husband loved the wings too but they weren't my favorite. After dinner we checked out the shop that's connected to the restaurant. A little expensive but nice things. Overall we loved our experience. The staff was very friendly and the decor was unique as well.

I visited Food Dance for brunch with my Dad and we were both very impressed with our meals and the outstanding service we received. I enjoyed a homemade macaroni and cheese meal with a cinnamon roll appetizers and apple cider mimosa. Food dance is a welcoming, talented restaurant and I am looking forward to coming back soon. My dad said many times that his breakfast was the best meal he's had in a long time.

Excellence in dining. We both loved it. Perfect bloody Mary, great selection of beers. I had the fried chicken and it was real good. He had the rib eye and it was cook perfectly seasoned perfect. Service was top of the game and we were very well taken care of.

Love the atmosphere of Food Dance. So happy there are back open! One of the best brunch places around! Look forward to any more weekend meet ups for brunch here! Service is always great and friendly. Always relaxing and never feel rushed to get in and out.

My daughter and I went to Food Dance for lunch last Saturday. It was my first time there. The service was fantastic! Adam, our server was very attentive, as well as the other servers. Our glasses were kept full, and the dirty dishes didn't sit on the table long at all after we were finished with them. The food was delicious as well, but these days it's hard to find a restaurant that takes such good care of their customers. I would definitely recommend it.

We visited on Valentine's Day, so take that in consideration with this review. The decor of the restaurant seemed more fitting to a breakfast or lunch location, lots of greens and browns; Less moody, more earthy. Which felt off during our dinner. We were able to select a shared cheese and meat plate that was very good, allowing us to pick from several unique options to form our perfect dish, each a varying array of prices. The only negative part was the provided "cracker" wasn't that spectacular. It was a little too crispy and came in several large sections. Our meals were small, which isn't necessarily a negative on its own, but mixed in with a $20+ price tag it was a little underwhelming. Although it's important to note that I'm not much for fancy dining. I personally feel that a cheaper meal from a simpler place would have been much more enjoyable. Overall the food was good, the drinks were tasty, and the staff was friendly. I would say it was a great experience. Unfortunately, I just don't know if it was quite $80 great. I may return to try their lunch menu instead.

We enjoyed a great evening at Food Dance and it was our first time here. The servers were very friendly and timely with our needs. We really enjoyed the crab cakes as a shared appetizer. We ordered the Pad Thai and seasonal pasta dish and they were fantastic. I highly recommend Food Dance as a great place to eat and enjoy the evening.

The latter was so good. The fries and the home made ketchup great.

Visit usually 2 times per month as we're from Battle Creek. Food and servers are top notch. Would give 5 stars if not for the pricey entrees. Easy to drop $80 plus for dinner, dessert and coffee for two. I'm sure alcohol will bump it up more.

Good quality, tasty food. Our kids look forward to stopping here when we pass through. Our servers are always lovely; knowledgeable and friendly. It is loses a star because it is trying so hard it makes itself miss sometimes. They use lovely fresh bread they should be proud of, but to make sure you notice they cut it uncomfortably thick (on the sandwiches). Or use a lot of filling to be generous, but which makes whatever you're eating structurally unsound. It makes eating more of a challenge than I like. But I imagine more people like the feeling of quantity, so I'm sure it works out for them.

Food Dance is quite possibly the best restaurant in the region. Their food is always excellent and nontraditional, and they even manage to prepare it relatively fast. If you need something custom, they'll handle it, and they'll never disappoint. The food is flavorful, diverse, and organic. In my experience, the breakfasts are better than dinner/lunch, but they're all wonderful. What really sets Food Dance apart is its staff, however. I am not a "regular" because the restaurant is a bit pricey, but the last time I came in, a staff member treated me to a dessert on the house. I always tend to customize my food a tad for nutritional reasons and I have an addiction problem with the bread that they serve with meals, but the staff doesn't miss a beat. I highly recommend Food Dance to anyone looking for a nice, healthy, and nontraditional meal or baked goods.

The food is amazing, and the service is excellent. My only complaint is that the chef on duty Saturday evening and I had a very different definition of 'rare'. My first steak came to me medium. I sent it back and got medium rare. Still not the rare I ordered, but the rest of my party had finished their meals and were deciding on dessert, so I kept it. Everything else was top notch.

Comprehensive menu including local farm-to-table specialities. We came here for weekend brunch, there is a cute bakery before walk into the restaurant. I ordered a tofu pad Thai and it was flavorful. Lot of different veggies. Although it's not authentic but its flavorful. My husband had a FGT stack which is fried green tomatoes with thick cut bacon cover with eggs and sauce. It was YUM, great mix with texture, savoy from the bacon and aromatic from the green tomato. It was a great combination. Def will come back and see what's the next new menu they will come out.

I have had some of the best dishes in Kalamazoo here and I have also been disappointed with the value. Today I have a $14 drilled tuna sandwich that was something I could get at a deli for $6. It was simply tuna, mayo, and some cuts of celery. Though it was good it is grossly overpriced for being so simple. That is one reason I never have brunch here. The portions are too small, the food too simple, and the price is too high. The things that keep me coming back is that is it almost always open, you can usually get a table, and the service is good. Other than a burger I don’t recommend much here regularly because it has been a few years since I have truly been happy with a meal here. I did have a halibut soup with my tuna and it was pretty good. My wife also got a $4 side of pesto with her omelet which was really tasty but again it’s a value issue.

After all of the raving reviews, I went there for the first time to have breakfast. I’d say it was an “okay” meal- got the eggs and home fries. The sausage patties that came with it were visibly pink...wasn’t sure if they were supposed to be cooked that way (it was a diff kind of sausage meat or what), but I was iffy eating it. The ‘toast’ was so hard I could only eat the very inside. I ordered a Bloody Mary, and it was NOT even close to being worth $9. I’ve had $3 bloodies that were much better. Service was “eh”. Seemed like they were attempting to be fancy with the food, but the looks did not match the taste at all. Maybe their lunch/dinner is better...probably won’t go back to try it.

We had a pretty disappointing meal on this visit. The dining room was about half full so we didn't expect too long of a visit, however, the meal took a long time to get to the table. The flank steak was so cool that the butter pat on top didn't melt at all and the potatoes were undercooked and pretty crunchy. Our other plate, the Pad Thai was dried out on the outside almost like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for >10 minutes. The staff did offer a free desert due to the wait on the food, but the food still just wasn't as great as we had expected. The baked feta appetizer was delicious and the market in the front of the store looks like it has a great selection.

J
Joanna McAfee

The food was ok. Kind of trying to be upscale and hipster. The birther was good but not $14 good. The fries were horrible. If you like that type of place then you'll love it. Service was very good. If I had to rate it on dessert alone it'd be 5 stars!

Great please if you are vegan / veggie, since it has a few "green" options :) Drinks were good. Reviewing based in our meals: Food (3 plates) was pretty salty, everything had 15%-25% more butter than what is expected / normal. Dessert tasted like a grocery bought one. Overall, we thought this is a little overpriced for the quality. We really wanted to like this place, since this is a " must go" in downtown Kalamazoo... But it didn't happen.

Normally, I do not write reviews if there was a problem, I just don't return to the establishment. This is different, I put my trust into their product for my special occasion. I ordered a tuxedo cake for my wife's birthday. The person who took the order was pleasant and professional, she included the "happy birthday" lettering on the cake, I appreciate that.It was ready on time, and it appeared to be in good order. The texture and taste however, were completely unacceptable. The cake texture resembled whole wheat bread crust. I'm not sure how to describe the taste, except to say that it might be able to pass for chocolate. This cake was not the first we've had from this establishment, some were better than others, but none were downright bad, until this one. Unfortunately, I will no longer recommend the tuxedo cake to anyone again. The only thing that saved this review from a one star was the customer service.

I left this place, once again, feeling the food quality didn't match the price. I ordered the sockeye salmon special. The salmon was overcooked and the fried green tomatoes that accompanied it were soggy in an underwhelming odd sauce. My dad ordered the pasta special that looked like a bunch of ingredients drowning in butter with mushy veggies. Our bill ended up being around $160 for 4 adults an an 8yo. No alcohol. We all felt disappointed with our meals and bummed we didn't enjoy our food. I am going to try to go again for the breakfast menu after I distance myself from the last experience. Hope I enjoy the next experience there because I do appreciate how they support local farms using local ingredients. What they support I give a thumbs up. Food Meh.

Upon arriving we were quickly seated, and had good service. The problem is the food, it's way over priced for what you're getting. I had the bacon and blue hamburger, and the blue cheese was so over powering I scraped it off. You couldn't taste the other flavors of the hamburger. The fries that came with the hamburger were burnt, soggy, and just tasted gross. The only thing that was good was the ketchup and the French soda they serve. We also decided to purchase a small cake. The cake was super dry, but I will say the make a great frosting. Overall not the greatest place it's so-so.
