I always seek out new restaurants. I was walking around in downtown #Kansas City quite famished. I had already eaten at almost every other restaurant within 10 blocks. I walked in the 🚪 and I must say the atmosphere was so relaxing and inviting. I was greeted by several staff. They were all wearing wide open smiles. Kit was my server. She was so attentive, kind, and accommodating. I ordered seafood fried 🍚. You might think that fried rice is the same all over. Let me say that it is not. My meal was so scrumptious. The flavors exploded in my 👄. I enjoyed the complexities of flavors and textures! The aroma was even more amazing. Unfortunately, they were out of the 🦞 and 🍤 spring rolls. I plan on returning soon to give those a try. What a wonderful dining experience!
This place is mine and the Hubby's date night spot! Anytime we want to get out and enjoy yummy drinks and the BEST sushi in town. We come here! The staff is always really nice and helpful and as well. I highly recommend for a nice date night or even a fun girls night out. They have a really nice roof top bar as well. Go Check it out! My favorite roll is the superman roll!
My wife and I moved out here awhile ago but never get out do to the kids. We decided to come to the drunken fish. We been to a couple others but this place was so good. We have not had food this good in years. The waiter chris was so helpful. I missed order and when I got it it was not what I thought it was but he when ahead and took it back and brought be the one I was explaining to him he was really nice. He was very informed about what is on the menu and answered all our questions. I was we could go again but that wouldn't be for a long time.
The food and drinks were awesome. It was pretty loud in the dining area but other than that not one complaint. Andrew was awesome and you should ask for him if you go.
Loved this place. Very tasty sushi, good cocktails, and great service. You order and pay on a phone which I thought was very convenient
Our waiter was spectacular and the sushi chef was so humbled by our gratitude and compliments. Drunken Fish is a special place and worth the visit!
Great atmosphere! They were able to accommodate a group of 10 girls. The sushi was delicious, mouth watering, and I can not wait to go back!!
Their Sashimi was delicious. There is no good parking near by. We had to hoof it from the parking garage a few blocks to the restaurant so we could have enough time to eat on break. The deliciousness of the food was more than worth it. I highly recommend.
We went on a Monday Night. Not overcrowded during an event. Easy online ordering app. Fast to Recieve order. Everything tasted delicious. We would love to return after studying the menu even more.
I’m giving 5 stars for happy hour because their happy hour prices are awesome for some of their tastiest rolls!! Their sushi is fresh and so so tasty!! Prices outside of happy hour are a bit high for KC but they definitely have good quality food so it’s worth it! The lobster spring rolls are amazinggg!!
My girls loved it. The Calamari was good and my spiderman roll was delicious. I would take my girls back. In fact, I definitely will!!!
Delicious nigiri dishes. The Tuna Tataki and Red Snapper Carpaccio (pictured) dishes are light, satisfying entrees with a good glass of wine. Tried their Chocolate Heaven dessert and was NOT disappointed. I’ll look forward to coming back when I’m in town next.
Bartender was attentive and very kind. I'm from California and he made me feel like not only should I move to Kansas but I should live off of eating and drinking at Drunken Fish... that's how awesome he was!!!
Beautiful presentation, great atmosphere, and knowledgable staff bring you a Japanese dining experience unlike any other.
The Bartender was so friendly and gave me great recommendations. No happy hour but I'll definitely be back.
Pretty standard sushi, but above par meat quality. Miso and green tea were just right as well.
My first sushi experience. Made to order so I could leave out avocado. I have an allergy that kept me from trying a lot of sushi. Loved it
Y'all this place was sooo good it was unreal. Even though everything was done via phone, everyone was so attentive. The food was so delicious. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
My favorite sushi place in Kansas city. Great lunch specials. Yummy drinks.
We stopped in for a quick bite. Sushi was delicious! Can't wait to go back later in the evening to sit at glowing red bar.
The food was great, the cocktail was SUPER mediocre. I'd not go there for the drinks but I'd surely go back for more food! Also our server was super great and checked up on us often. I'd reserve beforehand if I were you, especially on weekends.
The food was very good! The host who seated us was so helpful in explaining their ordering process, it’s all done on your phone. Service was good and our servers were very attentive. My friend and I had not seen each other in months and because the patio was not crowded ( just us) we stayed to catch up and just enjoy each others company. It was hot and humid with a small breeze and after getting two refills on our water they cut us off☹️. We had paid our tab so I guess they didn’t want to be bothered by us any longer. The restaurant wasn’t busy, it was about 1:30, and no crowd so I’m not sure why a refill on our water was 🙅♀️. I do recommend this place, but don’t try to overstay your welcome 😅 I did get a reply to my review that I thought was very sincere. (It’s captioned in the photos ). Therefore, I added another star. Next time I visit I’m sure I’ll give it 5 stars
Good, but neither I nor my husband was all that impressed for the price. Sushi was good, but didn't seem any different from other places (I don't get sushi often though, so who am I to be a fair judge). I would maybe go back, but my husband didn't care much for the steak and rice plate. I also wasn't a huge fan of the flavor when I tried it. But didn't tastes for different people.
It was SOOO good. Have been driving by this place for awhile now and thought Id give it a go. I wish parts of their menu were a kittle more descriptive. I had gotten a combo plate with a side salad. The dressing was not really a dressing it looked more like shredded carrot pulp. On the flip side it was sweet and tangy. Had a small kick I couldn't put my finger on. And was so glad I didn't turn my nose up. Restaurant was very clean. The sushi... mmm. We got the fried tempura philly and the California Roll. Then we got a few pieces of the tuna, salmon, and white fish. All very fresh. The downside was while we were one of the first 10 people there, they were steadily growing busier. There was only 1-2 people prepping, what looked to be 2 people in management, and two servers. The line was steadily piling up out and filling the lobby. We also waited quite a while for our food due to this. By the time we got our food, I didn't take any pics. Haha. I liked the decor. Overall though, I would go back, hoping they were staffed more appropriately. And feel super bad because I understand that in food service things can be unpredictable. So I am all for another chance to eat here. PS... the staff that was working was AWESOME!
Loved the sushi! Forgot to take a picture prior to eating some. There was a lot more in the take out box than this. Can't wait to actually go and sit at the restaurant to get the whole experience. Sushi was very fresh tasting and the nigiri was delicate and flavorful. Will definitely be going back again and dining in.
They have an elegant dinning system; everything is handled over your phone: your payments, orders, the tips. Wait staff are readily available to assist you and stop by check on you. The food was fresh, the place was clean. Our temperature was taken upon entry and masks were required until we were actively eating and drinking. We were socially distanced from others who were dinning. Not only would I recommend this place, but I would also go again - more than once!
Very cool location. The sushi is good, though I can't help feeling that it's a "food chain" recipe. I honestly did not care for the order-by-phone approach, but that's a by-product of the pandemic. I will return.
The first table they sat us at sat too low for the high chairs, so we had to move. The floor was sticky and gross. But the food. Oh, man. The food made up for everything. Would definitely recommend.
Had dinner with a friend after a night at Comic Con. Ordered with their QR code menu but they are attempting to return to physical menus. All the staff was polite. Everyone has their masks on accordingly. Ordered our food as depicted in the pictures (although we had some of our delicious potstickers already!) Great experience aside from us never receiving our side order of sauces (Sriracha for me and spicy mayo for my friend) and still being charged for it. Enjoyed the food, hoping it's just a small oversight.
The service was a little slow but it was overall a very good place to eat and worth the wait! I loved the ability to customize my sushi (I don't like avocado and I could opt to remove it) and the appetizer and dessert were fantastic!
The drinks were really good and the food was good but really not what we expected. I guess we went in with high expectations but really not the best sushi ever.
It’s a nice and quiet place for a date night. Their sushi was decent, but not the best in town. However, their drinks are overpriced for what you get eventually.
The food was delicious but the experience lacked a personal touch by having to order through your cell phone. The food was slow and the sake was even slower.
Everything was great during our visit! Our server was on top of everything and other server kept our water filled at all times. Our server recommended her favorite which was the lobster spring roll and it was AMAZING! Thank you! I loved this place, great patio, service, sushi & sake! 2nd visit 5/31/21: sushi is yet amazing once again! 👏 for the kitchen staff! They are on it and consistent. Server (blonde/pink hair), however was absolutely horrible...couldn’t figure out if she was high or just completely out of it...I understand bad days but this service...no reason for it. Our sake was never brought to us after ordering, I asked her to check on it twice...still never got it. Instead we watched her to continue to go back and take sips of her water and wipe down tables right after I asked... Keep in mind, they were not busy...she just apparently couldn’t remember to go get it or check on it. Bad service really kills restaurants even if they have phenomenal food!
Sushi and sashimi presentation was not super appealing, some of the sushi rice was not properly prepared or perhaps had sat in the warmer too long, however overall, the fish was a decent temperature and was very edible. Venue is okay for bite and a drink, but this is not an elite sushi destination. I lived in Asia for 5yrs and ate sushi every day of that time, so I am surprised by all the phenomenal reviews.... Then again, Midwesterners think of rolls when they think of sushi, so I probably shouldn't be surprised at all. The host Julian was kind and smiled a lot and our waitress was great as well. I will likely visit again, but will have these expectations in mind when I do so.
I really love sushi and the rolls we got here were delicious! I will say though once I walked in the door the smell was pretty bad but we stayed anyway because we heard good things about this place. I was so glad to see that they had tempura fried rolls too! I'll come again to try their dessert menu as well.
The food is subpar. Nothing too great now. It use to be decent even when they had a happy hour. Just recently coming here to enjoy some sushi and some drinks. They have menu out for happy hour but didn't serve it. Which is fine, we order some rolls. The white tiger roll, mango roll, and starburst roll is always a fav, along with caterpillar roll. The drunken fish roll was mediocre, the sprouts didn't taste or look so fresh on the roll. Lately, the food just doesn't seem as good as they once were and too overpriced for this quality.
They forgot to include the Tonkatsu sauce. 😡 I had to buy my own sauce and eat the Chicken Katsu a few days later. It was delicious, just wish I could have eaten it when I ordered it.
I wanted to love it 🥺. The drink I ordered was yummy. The staff was friendly but the food was just ok. Price was too high for the sushi received
The chicken was bone dry, I could barely eat it. my boyfriend ending up eating most of it for me. The sushi was amazing so I give that a 4.
Came from the Omaha area to KC for the weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were seated immediately (my husband made reservations) and he must have told them it was our anniversary, as they brought over 2 glasses of complementary champagne. Very nice touch. It was our first time here, & ordering on the website was easy, but it would have been nice to see a full menu to see all that was available. Service was great and we were checked on several times. We ordered 2 rolls, sashimi, nigiri & a noodle bowl. Everything was fresh & tasty. Why only 3 stars? It was sushi, it was good, but they are a bit over priced for what you get, & it’s not anything special. I’d eat there again, but they didn’t win me over, as my new, must visit, KC Sushi spot.
This place is a shadow of what it used to be. They’ve replaced waiters with a phone app. Items are seemingly impossible to customize and flagging down help from the lady that cleans the tables is only made worse by her lack of care. Our appetizers came out 10 minutes apart even though we ordered 2 of the same item. It’s dirty inside on floors and surfaces and bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. The food quality was just OK. Service has vanished from this restaurant so it you’re wanting food from a machine this is your place. For a nice date, move on. There’s a reason this place is empty at noon on Friday. We won’t be back
The service was great and the atmosphere was also good. However the ahi tuna look old and I have the feeling I might get sick after eating it.
The service was almost non existent. Sat at the bar and even the bartender was not attentive at all. The food was good but not amazing. The building and interior was actually very modern and cool.
Our waitress was friendly but mostly absent. I assume it's the fault of inadequate staffing. We would see her always busy, but so busy she had very little time to give to any table. The sushi was very good. We had 2 dishes from the kitchen. One was good, the other was not. We returned it and they took it off our bill without a hassle, which was nice. It seems the dish may have sat too long before being delivered. Overall, considering the price of food here I will not be back. But you may find great service on a different night.
Visiting from out of state and figured I'd check this place out since it had such great reviews. I didn't get their sushi, but their noodles were awful. It's basically doused in oyster sauce and sugar. The cabbage tasted raw. Presentation was lacking.
Overpriced and NOT the best sushi in KC by far. The sushi is decent at best. And honestly, who doesn’t include chop sticks and soy sauce in a delivery order? Ridiculous!
We sat at the bar and were asked to place an order on our phones. We did although we requested paper menus. We sat as our drink tickets printed and then waited another 15 minutes for a server to come back and acknowledge our drink ticket. The drink wasn't terrible but I had trouble with having 3 strawls served in my martini. Food was OK at best. I dropped my chop stick and found multiple cockroaches near my feet as I bent over to grab it.
Worst experience ever. We ordered Valentine’s special and when we got home and opened the box there was a cockroach in it! The Valentine’s Day dinner was ruined of course. We complained to the management, they apologized in a professional manner, but we will never go back to that place again.
Ordered the Jalapeno house salad. Look at the menu picture compared to what I received. Yellow parts of iceberg lettuce is not even close to what is shown in the picture. Horrible.
