Opinions de Le Fou Frog Kansas City
Incredibly unique and welcoming experience. Highly recommend this for an intimate dinner for a couple or small group. Drinks were fantastic and they even give samples of certain items to make sure you find the best thing for you. The French onion soup is a must. Everything else on the menu was fantastic and we will for sure be coming back. Our server Lindsy elevated our experience that much more.
I’m one of those people who likes to carefully examine menus online and pick out what I plan to order when I get to a restaurant. And every time I do that with Le Fou Frog, I find myself lured away by one of the specials on the chalkboard. As all the food here is expertly prepared and thoroughly delicious, deviating from my plans has never been a mistake. They do a particularly good job with seafood. On my most recent visit I had scallops and gnocchi that were excellent. The drinks here are also quite good. I admit I’m not completely crazy about the quirky French cafe atmosphere. But I recognize that’s a matter of personal taste, and I’m sure a lot of their customers really love it. And the lighting makes it hard to get good photos of the food, as you can tell from the pictures accompanying this review. But that’s completely beside the point when the food is this good.
My wife and I enjoyed Valentine’s Day at Le Fou Frog. The food and service were excellent, the atmosphere was pleasantly unique, and the entertainment provided by the staff, from dancing to signing and beyond, was very entertaining. We will definitely be back.
Our server Chloe was fantastic! Our food was even better. Service was incredible. Barbara & the team were responsive & fun. Incredible dinner! Eclectic vibes. Cannot wait to go back ASAP!
Eccentrically decorated and beautiful. French rolls are warm, crusty and unbelievably good (just like all French bread should be). My waitress Natalie pulled the rolls right out of the oven. Wow. Their Country Pate was likely the best I've had since we were in Normandy FR. Pork medallions were wrapped in bacon, perfectly cooked, and very succulent. The large portion was a great surprise. The mushrooms served with the pork medallions were spectacular. I'd like to say they were marinated, but I'm totally guessing. Best to say they were sprinkled with magic spices 😉. They gave me a wonderful truffle for dessert that was on the house. Looking forward to our return visit.
The service was amazing and our main waitress was the sweetest! She explained the menu very well so the dining experience ran smoothly. The people, the atmosphere, everything about the establishment was incredible. It seems like everyone is family at Le Fou Frog. To top off the night it was paid for by a stranger! 10/10 experience! You will not regret coming here <3 <3
This place is amazing everytime. The owners are amazing always there with their staff. The service is perfect everytime. And the food is just outstanding. 10/10 everytime.
Had a nice birthday dinner here, the service was spot on and staff were so attentive. Everything we ordered from the seared duck to the fresh halibut was well prepared. The goat cheese salad was my favourite dish of the night. You could taste the freshness and good cooking techniques on everything, however I thought both proteins were under seasoned, and the sautéed vegetables needed more love. This is a charming little restaurant that doesn’t feel very snooty, even though it’s very pricey. Great location.
I've never had French food and this was an amazing experience! The food and service was amazing. They really made out anniversary feel special!!!
We had a magical meal at Le Fou Frog. We had the French onion soup, escargot, filet, scallops and baklava cheesecake. Absolutely everything was delicious. The ambiance was fun and our waitress, Jill, was lovely. Easily our new favorite restaurant in KC!
Food was delicious and the drinks were great! Our server was very attentive and very informed with the menu. She had some great recommendations!
This French kitchen doesn't look like much from the street, but the decor is eclectic and the food is fantastique! I enjoyed the escargot (in the requisite indulgently rich garlic butter), the French onion soup, and the stuffed bacon-wrapped chicken. All was delicious. The service was attentive but not overbearing, which was wonderful. If I had to come up with a critical comment, it would be that the chairs on the patio need a little more padding. Should you find yourself craving French cuisine in KC, you won't go wrong with Le Fou Frog.
Finest place with amazing staff to celebrate an event. Bryan was super helpful in recommending the popular items. Lamb chops and branzino were juicy, tender. The restaurant itself is cozy and welcoming. In the cocktails, transfusion and espresso martini were balanced with quality ingredients, just stunning.
Going to Le Fou Frog is always a delight. It's intimate and upscale without being pretentious. It really does transport you to a Paris-like atmosphere sans the obnoxiousness. It has become an anniversary tradition for my wife and me. The food is absolutely incredible. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered. Seriously some of the best food in Kansas City. The wine list is a thing of beauty, the special cocktails are fun, and the servers are always appropriately attentive and pleasant. If you haven't been, go. You will thank me.

Beyond amazing. I never would have found this place but on a recommendation we went, and I couldn't have been happier. Right off the bat, the staff were so warm and welcoming, and the feel of the place is very mellow. We ordered several different dishes, each one a work of art and so tasty. Throughout dinner, we were attended to perfectly, not too much, not to little, and each bite was an experience. Please check this restaurant out, you will not be disappointed.
First visit, but not our last! It's quaint & relaxing. The servers are very welcoming and professional in an easy-going way. Best of all... the FOOD IS AMAZING! We had the smoked duck salad with raspberry vinaigrette and smoked trout with toast points for appetizers. Entrees were rosemary seasoned lamb chops with polenta and seasonal vegetables, as well as tiger shrimp with a (to die for) champagne vanilla sauce and risotto. Don't forget to try the desserts. All dishes were prepared to perfection and just simply scrumptious!
In all my years of coming to Kansas City for work, this is my first time here. I had a great time. The atmosphere and the staff were top notch. The food however, was another story. I had the Onion Soup and the Sea Bass special. My soup was so salty. I mean, inedible salty and I eat super salty food….I’m SE Asian and soy sauce runs through my veins, so I understand salt. I told the waiter and got a shrug which I found very interesting. No comment, just a shrug, lol. The Sea Bass…what can I say. It was sea bass. But, what I did love about what they did for me is they made the fish with all the sauces on the side. The sauces were delicious and paired with the fish, it was a great dish. None the less, I still had a great time there. Perhaps it was the great company I was with, but I think it was everything. I’d come back again for sure. I’ll try something else and hope that the overly salty food. All of that said, I’m a big foodie. I still think the food was just average. I tasted the dishes of my throuple and it was more of the same. Delicious, but nothing was overly memorable. The atmosphere and service was memorable, but the food was not.
Perfect intimate atmosphere for a date night, or special occasion. Welcoming and attentive staff. Our waiter, Chris, takes the trophy for best service at this gem of Kansas City. The quality and presentation of each of the dishes we ordered were top notch. From appetizers to desserts, both the standard and du jour menus challenged our ability to choose. They have a very nice selection of wines to pair with any of their scrumptious entrees, or simply enjoy the very creative cocktails. Flavors on our food selections were expertly balanced and surprised our palates with every new bite. Table visits from the owner and chef completed our wonderful dining experience. Most definitely will come back! Bonus pic of a whole Galette Des Rois/French Kings’ Cake served on Three Kings Day.
I've eaten here twice now and it's become one of my favorite restaurants. The food is fresh and savory and the decor is lovely. This restaurant is a 10/10 for me.
First time in. Sat at the bar side table. Excellent drinks. We ordered several appetizers. Beet salad. Smoked trout. Oysters. All delicious. The pasta with truffles was amazing. The desert. I don’t recall what it was by name. But it was pretty much the best, ever. I will return. And the service was excellent. What a fun date night.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. The service was absolutely top notch. We were very impressed with our waiter’s knowledge of both ingredients and menu offerings. The lemon gnocchi and French onion soups, along with the various cocktails and entrees we ordered were fantastic. Many unique things to choose from that you won’t find other places. Dessert was no exception either. We tried the crème brûlée and a lemon blueberry and almond desert that was divine. We also loved the live music and bubbling fountain out on the patio. Perfect for springtime dining. If you are looking for a fun, tasty dinner experience- this is the place.
Was quickly greeted and sat at the bar. Friendly greeting and was impressed by the specials list as well as the great recommendations from the bartender. I cannot speak highly enough of how great the service and food was. Such a good experience to be able to visit here and eat some amazing food paired with drinks of the highest quality. I came in expecting to try certain dishes and was led to some others that made the whole experience one I won't forget. I recommend if you are debating where to grab a meal from, you don't miss the chance to stop in. You will not regret it. My next visit through I will have to make Le Fou Frog a must stop for whatever the occasion might be.
Le Fou Frog is our favorite! Our waitress Claire made our recent birthday celebration here very special. The food, service, and atmosphere are always amazing. Can’t recommend Le Fou Frog enough.
It’s always a fantastic time at Le Fou Frog. The ambiance is spot-on — cozy, vibrant, and full of character, making every visit feel special. The food is consistently delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of rich flavor. And those dessert martinis? Absolutely irresistible — the perfect way to end the night and a reason on their own to keep coming back.
Every weekend they have one of the workers sing and put on a mini show. He does local shows as well. This place is really good and would recommend anyone check it out.
I realized when we left that we were leaving a different dimension, a cultivated experience of amazing food, expedient service, live music, all solidified by the red lighting that transported us to this lovely place. I enjoyed the live music (singing) that added to the classy atmosphere. The pappardelle with truffle is possibly the best pasta dish I’ve ever had, its quality only rivaled by dishes I’ve had at Gordon Ramsay restaurants. The noodles were cooked absolutely perfectly and I loved the flavor. I’m still talking about it days later. We also loved the Bisque de Homard and the caesar salad with calamari. I wish we would have visited here sooner. I can’t wait to return!
Wow! Let me just say wow. I've eaten at a handful of french restaurants in the KC area. This is definitely my favorite after my first visit. We started with fries, and they were incredible ! The server then told us they were voted best in KC, and I'll agree! The tortellini was tasty, and the baguette was on par with what I had in Paris. The atmosphere did remind me of Paris. One thing, though, you wouldn't receive butter in France. 😂 I'm sure people here have complained in the past, so it's been added. The Dover Sol was incredible. The risotto was wonderful. My wife gave me a bite of her lamb... Wow! This was the best lamb I've ever tasted. Definitely definitely definitely recommend you try this place!
One of the best restaurants in Kansas City. Arguable, the best! Thanks so much for your wonderful food and hospitality.
The food and wine were excellent. Authentic French cooking in KC!
My boyfriend and I have been talking about coming here together for almost 6 months. He’s been a few times before. It’s safe to say I’m obsessed. I wish I could remember my server’s name because she was literally the best I’ve ever had. I ordered the Baked Brie, French Onion Soup, and The Strip steak… and the crème brûlée. It was all amazing but I’ll be thinking about that soup for months, until I come back.
Went here due to several recommendations and was not disappointed. We were lucky to get a booth, I can see where people might not like sitting close to others in the middle tables. Our waiter was awesome, he even sang. Food and drinks were good. The power went out towards the end of our dinner (city issue, 1500+ went out in the area). They were still able to make food and accommodate. Will be back again.
Had a wonderful date night celebrating my wife’s and I 10th anniversary. Great food, Great wine selection, and our server was attentive and helpful. Price is reasonable. Definitely will come again
This was my first experience at Le Fou Frog. I have eaten in fine food restaurants in the Kansas City area since moving here 15 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised with this gem of a restaurant. This is my now my go to restaurant when I want an excellent meal and service.
My husband and I are new to the area having moved from the New York City area and have been trying out various restaurants trying to find our favorite spots. We've tried The Antler Room and The Restaurant at 1900 among others. Le Fou Frog -- hands down -- is the restaurant to beat in our minds. I had been disappointed that the atmosphere in other places wasn't quite what we were hoping for. If you want vibes and atmosphere: Le Fou Frog is the place to go. It's charming meets hip meets comfortable. We would have felt like we fit in if we were dressed up (which we were as we were headed to Swan Lake at the Kauffman right after) or in jeans. On top of that our server, Claire, was incredibly warm, personable, and helpful. The food was incredible to top it all off, and we appreciated not feeling like we were being rushed out the door. Hats off to this place. We'll definitely be returning soon.
The 2 best meals I've had in my life have been at Le Fou Frog. The 1st time was about 10yrs ago. My fiance took me for my birthday last night for the 2nd time and it was just as good as it was 10yrs ago. I'm excited my fiance loved it just as me because that means we'll be going again sometime!!! This is now our fav restaurant for the food, atmosphere, service, all of it!!!
We went for dinner and the atmosphere was very cozy and intimate. The service was great from all staff members we interacted with and the food was amazing! I definitely recommend this as a special occasion restaurant and hope to be back soon.
The decor is very cute and cozy. The lighting really sets the mood and makes it a great date night spot. The lamb chops special with couscous and ratatouille was cooked to perfection and the rosemary adjusted seasoned it perfectly. The prices are fair for a fine dinning establishment. The quality of service was spectacular. Our server was delightful and helpful with navigating the menu and specials since my wife has some dietary restrictions. 10/10 we'll becoming back.
Everything was 10/10. Service, food, and atmosphere were perfect. Kathleen, our server was incredible. I could recommend this place to literally everyone. It's one of my new favorite places in town. I would tip the chef if I could. The food was so good we took some home for later.
I love this restaurant—the ambiance, the people, and the food. I’ve tried many of their dishes and appetizers, and hands down, this is my go-to spot when I want a nice night out. I’ve never been disappointed here. I’ve been coming for years, and I truly love it. I would recommend this place for any special event—birthdays, celebrations, anything. I love their escargot and their scallops. Their sides are always good. Honestly order whatever and you won’t be disappointed. It’s just depends how you want your meat to be cooked.
What a fun experience! The simplest stuff is made in the most exquisite way. The French onion soup was incredible--sweet, savory and rich. The osso bucco was velvety tender and perfectly flavorful. The filet and lobster was such an amazing pairing this diehard seafood hater thought it was excellent. The cocktails were delicious. And the dessert coffee I had (had brandy, orange, and vanilla in it) was something that I want to learn to make.
Our first time dining at LFF did not disappoint. We were celebrating our anniversary so the intimate setting was perfect. The food and drink options were plentiful and our server was so knowledgeable. We ordered the strip steak and filet. They were cooked to perfection at medium rare. Creme brûlée was a wonderful way to cap the meal. Delicious. Great experience. Won’t hesitate to come back.
Kitchy is the only word. Food was amazing but service was sooooooo slow. Should be le fou turtle. I think it took 2.5 hours. Bastille day we will say was the reason? So maybe I'll give it another shot? Especially since one of the waitresses is for sure a cutie that keeps popping up on a fb group I'm part of? 😂 but I digress... My mom said the filet was one of the best in her memorable life sooo there's that. I got stuffed Quail and it blew my mind. Drinks sucked though > it was like basically swallowing spoons of sugar. I don't need that much sugar, I'm sweet enough. Anyways, you should go here. Food is great. But probs should wave down the waiter/waitress way early for non-cocktail drinks or you'll go thirsty and sit there a while. Great date spot though cuz your date will get trapped talking to you while you wait and grow Grey hair. Overall though really loved it. Lobster bisque (No meat in it), escargot (Not routinely served with bread itself), filet (with dauphine puffy potatoes), stuffed Quail.
First experience here and it was amazing. The ambiance/ atmosphere made it feel classy without having the pressure to dress or act a certain way. The inside is a surprising difference compared to the exterior! Overall, all of the dishes that we had were delicious! I really enjoyed the mussels, apple tart dessert and cheese board. There were just a few dishes that were slightly more bland than expected. Paying for a $62 order of wagyu, I expected it to have more flavor for the price. The price and lack of flavor of certain items is the only reason for 4 stars. Everything else was a great experience and our server was so kind and made the experience even better. If you can afford it, this would be a nice place to check out.
I have been to Le Fou Frog three times over the past several years (first time was in 2012), and the experience has always been about the same. The building exterior and interior is small and quirky. I like it a lot. The food is pretty good, mixed reviews between me and my wife, and it's also very expensive for what you get. I believe you're paying mostly for the experience. The service has always been weird and/or pushy. I am guessing that the servers are asked to be strange, which is okay with me; but for some, it is probably a bit off putting. The little old French man who works here has been rude twice, and I wonder if this restaurant thinks Americans all expect French to be rude. No idea. My wife is European, and she is not impressed with this restaurant. If you want a very unique experience in KC, this is a good place to check out.
This had been my favorite restaurant for years. But I think I've grown as a food connoisseur. I wasn't as impressed with the food as I was on my first few visits. It's been years since I've eaten here. Our server was amazing. I love that its a small, kinda hole in the wall. The meals are decently priced for a French restaurant.
We picked this restaurant solely based off the reviews and atmosphere. I made a reservation online which was simple. As you walk in it feels very tight from the get go, we were sat at a table in the bar area and I kid you not we were within a foot of the couple next to us. I could hear their whole conversation the entire dinner, which really killed the whole anniversary vibes. Our cocktails ended up coming out before our waters did because they were out of pint glasses? Never heard of this happening at a restaurant before. The salad we got was amazing with fresh beets and a delicious dressing that I would definitely pay for again. My girlfriend got the seafood medley, which I thought was far better than my bland tasting filet. I ordered my filet medium rare and it came out medium, granted I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to be that patron and complain. Overall it was an ok experience, I wouldn’t come back but I would encourage everyone to try it at least once.
It wasn't bad, but nothing special.. the tables by the bar are just sad. You have to sit side by side so difficult to converse. Lots of traffic and you must stare at the backside of servers for your meal. Barely enough room on the table for your two plates and drinks. Server must constantly juggle items. If you go, ask not to be seated here.
The staff was personally my favorite part about this place. They were all extremely welcoming and friendly! It was absolutely delightful seeing them all come out in their swan lake interpretation to present the bottle of wine to the table next to us! They have an extensive drink menu. My partner loved the lamb chops he ordered with a ratatouille side. They were cooked as ordered and paired excellently. There were no vegetarian appetizers to enjoy, so I picked one of the 2 vegetarian options. Plating was beautiful, but it was salty and the flavors clashed more than complimented eaxh other. Nothing was unique tasting about the desserts, although after your check, they gave a wonderful chocolate truffle which turned out to be my favorite thing to eat from there.
Firstly, this was my one and only visit to this restaurant so far. It was for my birthday. I love the space and the atmosphere; it possesses a lot of interesting and romantic ambiance, especially with the red lighting. The food did end up being really good, but my main issue was this - the service. Our waitress, Sabrina, was beyond rude and she kept trying to crack jokes that simply did not land. I am a long-time vegetarian and they DO have vegetarian dishes. However. When asked if mushrooms could be removed from something, she laughed and said 'probably not.' She did go and check and came back and said that she couldn't make that change and that they 'really like our meats here.' She then said that they could make a pasta with red sauce and I told her I didn't like red sauce. She laughed at me and again said something rude, "Wow. It must be really hard for you." She was very pushy and my face was so hot from how enraged I was; I've never been disrespected so much in a restaurant. Considering I have heard only good things about this place, the service was a slap in the face. Those were only a few examples of the repeated rudeness that my partner and I endured. Likely not returning.
