Nestled in the black land prairie. You will find a down old hwy155 Holman' Valley Steakhouse! What a find!!! The place harkens back to the German roots in the area, so for appetizers, we started with the fried bacon and the fried sausage and sauerkraut balls. Don't say no until you try it. They're amazing. But we are not in a hurry, thank you. The salad took a wee bit longer to come out because they were "making the blue cheese" dressing ! Making ! My seafood Deluxe plate was about the best seafood plate I've ever had. The fried shrimp was very lightly dusted. It was just perfect and the fish had such a thin cornmeal crust. It wasn't over breaded. It was perfect. The stuffed crab was top-notch with a lovely sweet crab meat forward. Pair that with mash potatoes, salad and perfectly done squash casserole and you can't go wrong. Now to the steaks - done to order and generously sized. Very nice. Now to desserts!!!! These are mostly all home made! We chose the coconut buttermilk pie and the mudslide. Boy howdy!! Get ya some! OMG!!! So good. I won't say more to not ruin the wonderfulness of their desserts. We will definitely be back!!!! *** This is such a local favorite *** reservations are recommended.
We are coming back here! We are started our meal with the Sauerkraut and Sausage Balls. Excellent! Great battered crust, moist inside and flavorful. Then I was surprised by my dinner salad. Ice cold and homemade croutons. The croutons were a fit for us. We had to share these out of a common bowl. The croutons disappeared. Then we had a couple Porterhouses and one Filet. (We ordered the last two Porters) All of our steaks were cooked perfectly and enjoyed every bite. My youngest son was already asking when we could come back since we don't live close by. Then we had another surprise. That Buttermilk Pie, fresh from the oven. Perfect is all I can say. I'll be placing an order for a whole pie a few days before out next visit! The atmosphere is great. This place is Texas. It's over 100 years old, has a porch and screen door. I'm sold. We'll be back, save us three Porterhouses next time! It's worth the drive!
The service at this place was great! Very friendly and helpful staff (they even secured us one of the last pieces of pie before it was sold out!) The fried mushrooms were very juicy and a hefty portion for sharing. The steak’s selling point was the seasoning, they pack a lot of flavor into them. Would recommend a visit for the food and the adjacent outdoor venue with live music looks like a ton of fun, even though we weren’t able to stay and participate.
We came to Holman Valley all the way from Katy, Texas. The food and service alone deserve a 10 out of 10, but the atmosphere is a plus. It gives Gruene Hall vibes, but with food.. Miss Wendy gave my father a tour of the dance hall where they occasionally have live music. I highly recommend this place, and I will definitely be back.
Location is off the beaten path, about 6 miles from Weimer and 13 miles from La Grange. This is a 100+ year old General Store that's been converted into a restaurant and dance hall. Only open Thursday - Saturday for dinner and Sunday's for lunch. The screen doors as you enter remind you of days gone by as do the latches on the bathroom doors. The have a good selection of wines and beers and the food reminds you of Grandma's cooking. Look up on the chalk boards on the wall to see what soups, sides and desserts are being served. The chicken fried steak is delicious as was everything we tried. A must try is the Sausage Sauerkraut Balls and if you like yellow squash - the squash casserole will hit the spot. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. The owner swings through the dining room ever so often to make sure her guests are being taken care of. It looks like she oversees the kitchen as well. Almost forgot, the Buttermilk Pie is just like Grandma's too, crust and filling! Enjoy & Bon Appetit! 😊
Love this place. Down home country cooking. Frequented by locals and weekenders alike. Great food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere.
The food here is excellent. Anyone who hasn't eaten here is missing out. This restaurant is a local favorite. I ordered the seafood platter for the first time and it was very good. There was enough for two meals!
Good food, beer and a dance floor. What more do you need. Awesome owner, great staff, great food! Must go!
Great place to eat and dance in an old Texas dance hall.

Hidden gem outside of La Grange! The best sides and desserts that rotate, so be sure to check out the board for what's on the menu that night! Bottles of wine are reasonably priced. If you're coming during a busy time, pack your patience and order an appetizer. Friendly staff and cozy country environment. 10/10 always recommend when family and friends come into town to visit!
Came here for dinner since we were in LA Grange for a wedding. The steak was amazing and it was so cozy inside. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. I wish I lived closer so I could come back again
Found this place while one a tour of Dance Halls. So impressed with Wendee and her work that came back to eat a few months later. Made a reservation which I highly recommend as it gets very crowded with locals. They had our table ready and we were quickly seated and giving our drink order. We had the special of the night which was 8oz sirloin with 2 sides. Perfectly cooked at med rare and wonderfully seasoned. The squash casserole was delish. We ordered dessert and they were huge servings. I had mudslide and my hubby had peach cobbler. We could have shared either they were so big. Everything is made in house. By the time we left it was packed. We saw a few groups of 8 and a side room that can accommodate twice that. Love this place and will come back.
We called an hour in advance coming from San Marcos, they stayed open late for us. Amazing food great service. Felt like eating at my nanas when I was a kid food tasted just like hers. Highly recommend checking this neat place out Also bonus points for adorable lil kitties outside
Really good food. Try the Chicken Fried Bacon from the appetizers. The Chicken Fried Steak is a choice of small or large ... The small covered half the plate. Nice selection of sides, but no baked potato. Dining room gets quite noisy when full. Waitresses are attentive and friendly, even when very busy. The building itself was a country store on one side and a beer joint on the other side when I was a child. My sister and I always got a root beer on our way to visit our grandparents.
This place was AMAZING!!! We were in town visiting and decided to try this place. The restaurant is located away from the hustle and bustle. The drive to the restaurant is beautiful. The decor was simple and cute. The food was awesome. Our group had corn flake chicken, chicken fried steak, tomato basil soup, squash casserole, green beans and mashed potatoes. Everyone kept saying how it was so good. We ALL ATE EVERY BITE! We also each got a dessert and shared. The buttermilk pie and carrot cake were homemade and delicious. 5 stars all around!
Their cooking is top class!! Everything is done well. They have some value items then also nice steak or seafood. The German appetizers were so good.
I live in West Point, this is the best steak in the area and it's not too far from La Grange! Go check it out.

The food was excellent, The steak was a little thin, but beautiful taste. It was amazing. Fried mushrooms mind blowing. It's good place to eat.
Food was great Ball’s we’re tasty Stop it! Ribeye was very good Only negative was the cold potatoes and gravy. Definitely be back.
First visit a few years back was the steak I've ever had... my last visit not so much. Poor cut a little overcooked and a very little seasoning. Salad dressing tasted water down and the sides seemed to old.
Great place but need to get new cooks. I ordered medium well steak and it was barely cooked I sent it back for Re-Fire 2 times and still Rare. The sides are tiny as well as the salad. Service was Not what I would call great.

First time there and it was a bust. Took an hour and a half to get our meal. My son ordered a 10 oz ribeye when we finally got our food his steak was about a quarter of an inch thick looked like a chicken fried steak without the breading. Chef was too busy to come out and address the issue. Won’t be back
Make sure if decide to dine here that you do so when you have a lot of time on your hands. Also come in very early because they run out of menu items regularly. The food is hit or miss. We have had excellent steaks and other times it has been flavorless and dry despite having ordered a rare steak. Maybe they took dry aged literally. I feel sorry for the waitstaff having to deal with hangry folks. Tho alternatives are limited they are available in Columbus or Schulenberg.
