Akafuji is highly praised for its Omakase, especially the premium and luxury options, offering great quality and quantity for the price. Customers rave about the fresh sushi and friendly service. Some mention potential MSG and variable Uni quality via delivery.
Tip: Consider dining in for the freshest Uni. The Luxury Omakase offers a wide variety of dishes at a good value.

overall: 8.5/10 Insta reel: @rach.foodie food🍣 My first omakase experience! So grateful that there’s an affordable omakase spot right here in oc. Akafuji in la habra serves premium & fresh omakase. They start you off with the house salad, miso soup, & chawanmushi. Then onto the 16 piece premium sushi. I appreciated that every piece was handmade carefully by the chefs. My favorite was the black cod and I love that they have a dropper for truffle ponzu. It really elevates the taste of the sushi and adds a little unique touch to it. And the a5 wagyu beef was heavenly. It was soo tender and just melts onto your tongue. Towards the end, they brought out a tempura set which was such a warm & savory palette cleanser after the sushi. And of course we always need a sweet treat after a good meal! (Yuzu Ice cream + egg bread) service🤗 Everyone here is so respectful and kind! They’re always checking up on you and making sure the finished plates are cleared after each round. The chefs put a lot of care and effort into making each sushi a delicious experience. ambiance✨ Came as soon as they opened on Friday at 11:30am. The seating is mainly bars because it’s an omakase house. Interior was very clean and modern, however I do wish the music they played was a little more relaxed. I had a hard time hearing my brother when we were eating.
The fish is always fresh and high quality! Have been coming here for years and everything on their menu is excellent! Love the presentation.
A really good spot for sashimi, nigiri and all things sushi! Great interior! Love the atmosphere they’ve created. Chefs, waitresses and host are friendly. As for the menu I do find that the fish quality tend to be better on the weekdays, but do consider that I’ve only been here a few times. I will say the quality is still exceptional even if you visit later into the weekends. Overall, it’s a nice little spot for sushi with a calm and laidback vibe to enjoy sushi.
I recently celebrated my birthday at Akafuji and opted for the Omakase experience. It was an exceptional meal that exceeded all of my expectations. From the moment we sat down, we were welcomed by the friendly staff. Every piece of sushi is expertly prepared and presented. There was a good variety of fish that showcases the chef's skill and creativity. The experience was not just about the food but also about the atmosphere and ambiance. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had a serene and calming energy that made for a truly enjoyable dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend Akafuji for anyone looking for an exceptional sushi experience. It was the perfect way to celebrate my birthday.
Tried the house chirashi bowl and it was delicious! Friends tried the premium omakase, for $95, you basically get 20 pieces and 5 other dishes! I would definitely try this next time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
So glad I tried this place! Best Omakase in the area. There were three tiers depending on how much you want: Standard ($55), Premium ($70), and Luxury ($95). I got the Luxury and it was awesome: Miso soup Chawanmushi egg custard Salad Sashimi platter of 4 fish Ankimo Monk fish liver Japanese Abalone with liver sauce Seared Black cod Madai Sea Bream Bafun Japanese Uni Fried Amadai Tilefish Bluefin Tuna Kinmedai Golden Eye Snapper Shima Aji Striped Jack Nodoguro Blackthroat Sea Perch Seared Mentaiko Japanese scallop Toro Tuna belly Wagyu Hokkaido Scallop Nigiri Kumamoto oyster Snow crab with Bafun Uni and Osetra caviar Kanpachi Amberjack Cooked Miso black cod Awaebi seared blue shrimp Nigiri Negitoro roll Tempura Clam soup Dessert - Lychee or Yuzu ice cream Was so full I had to take the Tempura and clam soup to go. They also have a $2 Kirin draft special with dine-in. Will def be back!
My son who just turned 12 loves sushi& sashimi and he has a very exquisite taste since he started to like sushi from very young age. He wanted to try Omakase and I picked this restaurant as his bday supper and it was the best bday surprise for him. He enjoyed every pieces of premium luxury Omakase course + additional complementary dishes. When the chef found out we booked the restaurant for celebrating his bday, he served the delicious Lychee sorbet with candle (how sweet!) In addition to that, I was impressed by their modern interior that provides a casual and intimate atmosphere. Also, their drink selection was great or you can bring your own favorite champagne or wine (additional charge may apply. I am not sure how much ) I will definitely come back here for my bday dinner 💙. Don’t forget to try your piece with black salt they offer. It will guide you to another level of experience 🤫.
Wow! I think Akafuji has been offering fantastic Japanese foods. I ordered Omakase Premium today. The Sushis 🍣 are really good. It was melted in my mouth. Also, Shrimp Tempura 🍤 and Beef Udon 🍜 are good too. Interior is clean and neat.
Best Omakase we found in OC. We ordered 2 omakase (one premium and one luxury); the quality and quantity with the prices are really good. We got plenty of small dishes from luxury omakase and they are very delicious.. too bad that I didn’t take enough photos.
Very very good place in Brea, CA for Japanese Handrolls🍣🥢. I try their scallop roll and blue crab roll. Both tasted great. The only draw back now is chicken Karaage. Very juicy and chunky, but I tasted burn on the outside. The chef said they will make adjustment. They are really good at hand rolls. And I will definitely come back and tell my friends.👍
Best Omakase I've had in a long time. Surely the best in La Habra ... Love it going back.
Excellent service and food ! I didn’t expect omakase this good at this price .. Black cod sushi was impressive 😋 I will definitely come back for it !

Easy 5 star review. Literally everything I ate was delicious.

Warm greetings as soon as you walk in. It's not a large menu but what they do offer is all excellent. The fish is the freshest I've had in a long time, the beer is cold, and the rolls are made one at a time ( meant for immediate consumption). I can't say my wallet could handle frequent trips, however I will definitely be back!

Worth trying if you are looking for a budget-friendly sushi experience ✨ We ordered the Luxury Omakase. Cost is $105 per guest, averaging about $5 per item. 🥢My favorites were the amberjack, bluefin tuna, scallop and oyster. The amberjack was my encore sushi pick… encore and the lychee sorbet were a great way to end the meal and earned this spot the fourth star :) Some of the missing items from photos below were the various soups and the chawanmushi.
It terms of value and quality for omakase, this is an incredible deal. It’s not an interactive experience which IMO takes away a bit. The atmosphere is casual and not the typical intimate setting of higher end omakases. I will say this is the first time I’ve ever been full from the amount of fish!
This place famous for good omakase deal! The luxury one lit have like over 20+ dish and price is not over 100$ , thats a crazy price in America. I was worry the quality wont be good, but actually the sushi are all pretty good. All the seats indoor are barcounter seats, and sushi cheif wont really talk to you so enjoy the talking with friends. The server can be slow and busy sometimes. The sushi can take some times to come out, we ate around 2-3 hrs. They have table outdoor seatings My friend order some rice don , we didnt like it. I also didnt like the sidedish that come with the luxury set that much, personally i will order the second one next time. But if you want misosoup and feel overwhelemed def try the luxary one for the first time.
Update: they might use a bit of msg bc my mouth was quite dry and constantly thirsty after eating Pretty good spot for reasonably priced omakase! I think the omakase special was $50 that’s 8 nigiris and a hand roll which in todays world isn’t really that bad. And for the quality, I’d even dare say this is on the cheaper end of sushi but good. I did some research before going to La Habra since I couldn’t find much to eat but Akafujis sushi looked fresh and quality. Nigiris were all fresh and nicely seasoned with garnish/sauce, blue crab hand roll was also packed with blue crab, friends salmon truffle roll was a+ and the fried calamari was also a banger. Overall, I’d def return and recommend it to my friends. Some of the reviews seem like they’re derived from unreasonable expectations and even then, I thought this was a solid spot for the price. It would be nice if they had an appetizer included in the omakase special but oh well. The server wasn’t the friendliest but I honestly don’t really care as long as he is able to service our table promptly and professionally which he did. Also it was kinda nice to sit outside to eat too and todays weather was perfect. 🫡
Good sushi spot and prices reasonably for what they are serving. My only gripe is that they seem to really like using the pre-chopped wasabi which ends up adding way too much salt even without soy sauce. If they are going to be using that they might as well use the fake wasabi instead and would be cheaper for them too. The chopped wasabi they are using is good meats other than fish. Takes away from the subtle flavors of fish the fish.

I recently visited Akafuji and while the service and ambiance were superb, I have to say that the food was a bit pricey. The staff was exceedingly polite and attentive to our every need, and the ambiance of the restaurant was great - it really had a nice vibe to it. However, when it came to the sushi itself, I was a bit disappointed. While it was definitely fresh, it lacked flavor and didn't quite hit the spot for me. Although the food looked good, I started feeling sick after eating it. I'm not sure if it was a combination of ingredients or something else, but I definitely felt nauseous. Overall, I'd give Akafuji a 3 out of 5 stars - great service and ambiance, but the food could use some improvement.

When they first opened food quality and service were very good. Unfortunately since then noticed a gradual decrease in food quality and service. Currently, Akafuji is same as any other very average sushi place.
If you order Uni on Ubereats, they'll just give you the old and not so fresh ones as compared as the ones they serve to in house customers. Uni should be bright orange/yellow, got dark orange and bitter ones instead sadly
