Opinions de George’s Bar La Jolla
Amazing. Had an excellent time here with my dad. Started off by being greeted by the most wonderful staff and even with reserving a table for the wrong date, they were more that willing to seat us with an incredible view. The restaurant has 3 levels that overlook La Jolla, the top being a beautiful roof, the middle is where the photo below was taken and has an open window view and bar, and I believe the bottom has a inside area. I totally recommend paying the extra $60 to be with the view as it’s one of the best aspects of the place. If you go during a non busy time(like around 4) they’ll be open tables typically at the window so it may be free the extra fee. To add onto this beautiful restaurant, our waiter was hilarious and so helpful! And if you have dietary restrictions, many if the food item accommodate for this, as our waiter informed us that our chips with guac/salsa were gluten free and my rigatoni was vegetarian! Food was absolutely delicious and WILL be returning soon!
What a fantastic place! We started with the brussel sprouts. Everyone in our group got different entrees and we were all really pleased. Ended the night with 3 desserts. We talked about how wonderful George’s at the Cove was the entire night. It’s also a wonderful place to watch the sunset!
- Excellent service - Funny waiter - Incredible ocean views - I reserved a table (for a fee) incorrectly for the wrong date. The manager kindly refunded my fee. - FAVORITE LaJolla restaurant …. and Lamborghinis parked out front
We went there in January 2026, we had a real estate conference in San Diego. The upper level was closed for renovation, yet we still had a nice view of the water and the lunch was delicious.
I would give them 6 stars if I could! Came here for our wedding anniversary dinner and they definitely made it very special. They knew it was our anniversary so they upgraded us to the terrace seating and even brought champagne on the house. Servers were quite nice and prompt to check on us, asking if we needed anything and if the food was good. General manager also came and stopped by our table twice and was quite a gem to talk to. Portobello Mushroom - just wow! I was not expecting to have loved this so much! Mushroom cap was perfect and went so well together with that Thai sauce and those shishito peppers! And oh gosh, even those cashews on the side had some flavor of their own. What a lovely combination here! Salad - could be better. Really love the concept of the pair and the blue cheese and the hazelnut, but that cabbage was actually quite a lot in volume and a bit too wrong and crunchy and some pieces were also fairly bitter. I think if the base was mostly mixed greens with a little bit of cabbage, this with salad would have been next level! Chicken - 10/10 What an absolutely beautiful dish! That chicken was cooked so so so perfectly soft and there was that avocado salsa on the side and that creamed corn and the squash. And oh my goodness me! Have everything together and one bite and it's a burst of flavor and texture in your mouth and it was just so so good! 🤌🏻 Only downside is that the piece of chicken was quite small like I think it was a quarter chicken instead of a half chicken like we were expecting. Side of Grilled Chicken Order this because there was two little chicken in the entree. Chicken was quite generally cooked and quite a large piece of chicken breast which actually also came on some pasta so they don't serve it plain. Very nice gesture. The pasta itself was extremely oily though, so we didn't really have any of it. Banana Sticky Toffee dessert - speechless! Everything was just beautiful on this plate. Really really soft sticky toffee pudding and then the bananas on top had that caramelized crispness on top like you get on a creme brulee. That ice cream had a lovely flavor of its own and then there was the sesame crisp thing and the little crunch on the side.. just wow! Definitely recommend this place for a good date night!
I recently visited George’s at the Cove in La Jolla and had a great experience overall. The location is absolutely stunning, offering beautiful ocean views right from your table, especially if you manage to get a window seat as I did. I booked my reservation on the same morning around 8 or 9 a.m. and was surprised to find availability for a 12:45 p.m. lunch. Although there was some construction noise on the top deck, the staff accommodated my request to sit by the window and enjoy the view. The food itself was great; I started with the salmon tartare and had rockfish tacos for lunch. The service was good- and the overall atmosphere was very enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend George’s at the Cove to anyone visiting La Jolla for the first time who’s looking for a great meal with a fantastic coastal view. For those concerned about local wildlife smells, I personally didn’t notice any issue with sea lions during my visit, so it was a non-factor. Overall, a great spot for lunch with a view.
George's at the Cove is an absolutely wonderful New American restaurant located in La Jolla, California. I recently visited with some girlfriends of mine while we were in San Diego for a conference, and we had the best experience here! :-) First, the staff are amazing!! I have to give a huge shout-out to Victor (our server) and Jacob (our bartender), as these guys took amazing care of our table. At no point in the evening did we feel rushed or hurried, and they both made sure we had everything we needed during our visit! They are truly the best - I highly recommend you go see them when you visit George's! Further, the food here is amazing. We shared a number of plates as a table, and I loved their Ahi Tuna “Taco” appetizer, their Chips with Guacamole & Salsa, Cacio e Pepe Fries, and Mussels. Everything was so delicious!! They also make a great cocktail - their Spicy Piña Margarita is so fresh + yummy. Lastly, the atmosphere inside George's is really lovely - BUT, make sure to arrive during daylight hours when you go. Given that the sunset was so early during our visit, we missed the ocean views that are known to be part of the dining experience at George's. I'm so sad about this, but I'm looking forward to returning in hopes of catching those views in the future! I highly recommend this spot - go visit them when you are in La Jolla!
Delightful Saturday lunch in La Jolla! The food was delicious and delightful for the tastebuds. I was glad to see the variety of items they had on the menu as there was something for everyone. And the homemade ice cream for desserts was amazing and had such a light flavor. Thank you for the wonderful birthday surprise and excellent service! I look forward to returning again when I visit San Diego.
If you want to enjoy a delicious meal overlooking an absolutely stunning ocean view then make a reservation at George’s at the Cove We were lucky to snag a table just at the edge of the upstairs balcony, but to be honest, when you’re up there, there really isn’t a bad seat. Even aside from the incredible views, the rooftop restaurant offered a solid ambiance/vibe. The decor, fixtures, bar, etc were all trendy and clean The staff were great. We didn’t have to wait long to be seated, we ordered almost immediately, and our food came out in a timely manner. We also sat and enjoyed the views and conversation a bit after we finished eating, and our server came by to check on us but we never felt pressured to leave The menu offers something for everything. We shared the rock fish tacos and their burger. Both were hearty and very flavorful. I would also recommend the chips and guacamole/salsa. I didn’t love the salsa flavor, but the guacamole was solid Some tips: Definitely consider making a reservation and ask if you can request a table that overlooks the water. There is only street parking and garage parking. We circled around a few times before parking at the nearby parking garage. But be warned, it’s $30 to park there. But after you eat, walk down to the cost and explore the La Jolla cove, the sea caves, see the seals, and explore some of the parks along this scenic stretch of coastline Cheers!!
Shoutout to Tina for doing a phenomenal job catering and serving my family. I forgot the manager name but he also gave some great recommendations to eat. This is a special place I bring special people who have visited me in San Diego over the years. The view …..wooow the atmosphere is the same as I remember years ago when I stayed here. You see the seagulls flying waves crashing and every once in a while a sea lion shouting to the rooftop!! Food and customer service let’s just say there are levels when it comes to dining establishments. This place is a gem not just in La Jolla but in SD county Our order: George Special Soup 7 out of 5 I’m from and have stayed in some bbq places TX NC MS smoked meat this is not smoked so do not expect a smoked bbq flavor. I digress just because it doesn’t have a smoked flavor doesn’t mean it doesn’t taste good, it is Fuego! Lots of depth to the soup amazing broth flavor and it’s worth every dime Lamb Chops 5 out of 5 Crazy outrageously tender flavorful. The couscous is delightful super light and refreshing perfect I mean perfect for a summer dish. Pomegranate and plums add an element I was not expecting. Only downside to the dish was the crunch of the seed I could have done without but the freshness and playful flavor it adds is nice tho! Yellow Fish with Green beans 4 of 5 Fish was tasty and also refreshing more citrusy like flavor. Green beans were basically raw not cooked. Ooooooou but that grilled eggplant was seared and flat out delicious Great experience overall nice weather cool breeze and conversation. This spot can easily be considered fine dining but they make it feel casual and laid back like San Diego truly is!
You know sometimes you gotta zonk a place and sometimes you can’t. This is one of those restaurants that just HIT. Also for more insight come see my YouTube channel Steven Reactz The views at this establishment can hardly be beat. Wow. The food was on point and our waiter was great. We will definitely be back and this place isn’t a secret since it was packed after 5pm. It was a good thing cause it adds to the environment. To my opinion you don’t have to waste your time with the top level cause the second level is legit. Speaking with the locals they say the same thing. The views are amazing so just come on through. This place doesn’t miss
George's at the cove was recommended to me by a few locals and after going to experience it for myself, now I can clearly see why. There's something about the bright, airy restaurant serving incredible food topped off with views of the seals out playing in the ocean below! The hostess was very friendly and the service was quite attentive. I too could recommend this place to anyone visiting the area looking for a unique dining experience!

We recently visited Georges at the Cove and were absolutely blown away by the newly renovated Ocean Terrace. The fresh look of the space perfectly complements the iconic La Jolla views, making it easily the best rooftop vibe in San Diego. The menu has some incredible standouts that made our night: The Drinks: The cocktails are top-notch—innovative, refreshing, and the perfect pairing. Beef Tartare & Bone Marrow: This appetizer was a highlight; served with sourdough, it was rich, savory, and perfectly executed. Local Spiny Lobster Spaghetti: The combination of red chili, charred onion, and lemon cream with fresh lobster was decadent and full of flavor. Spice Crusted Local Swordfish: A fantastic main course—the spice crust paired with herbed farro and yuzu yogurt sauce was a unique and delicious take on local seafood. Between the stunning new terrace and the excellent kitchen, this is a must-visit in La Jolla. We can’t wait to come back!
We visited on a busy holiday weekend but we're greated nicely and seated immediately which was a nice suprise without a reservation. The food and views were excellent and the famous soup definitely didn't disappoint, very good!
Always enjoying George’s and this time was great as well. We always order the Famous Soup. Cocktails were wonderful and chocolate desert was fantastic. View doesn’t disappoint. However, the city really needs to clean the pelican droppings from the cliffs below, the smell is out of control. Thank goodness the wind changed before our food arrived.
Go for the view, food maybe! They have the right combinations, right ideas however food sometimes felt like it missed the mark. Cocktails are decent. I would recommend the spicy pina margaritas and you cannot go wrong with the watermelon feta salad. Optimally priced for California standards.
Beautiful rooftop and restaurant with the best ocean view. Food was so delicious and service was wonderful. The only complaint is the smell of sea lions on a warm summer day. I don’t know if the inside dining area might be shielded from the foul smell. The rooftop was definitely smelling it!

Pricey but you're paying that price for the view. Food was just ok, the best dish was probably the mussels. Would only come back if it was a great day to bring friends that are visiting SD

Very average, touristy restaurant with a beautiful view of the ocean. The food was average and the drinks were not great. Might be a good spot for a drink before going somewhere else.

The service was good and the staff was friendly. However the $44 flat iron was a disappointment. It was not tender and even bitter because of overcooked and black surface. The $38 pork was also a bit salty. The taco was good though. Overr food quality did not meet my expectations of a high end restaurant with good sea view.
We dined at George’s at the Cove over the weekend with family and friends, bringing along our 10-month-old and 3-year-old. It quickly became clear this is not a kid-friendly spot. They didn’t have a standard high chair — only a booster seat, which arrived filthy and smelled like vomit. I sent it back to be cleaned and saw the hostess visibly roll her eyes in my direction. When it returned, it was still wet. The ambiance was much louder than expected. Our toddler found it overwhelming, and it was genuinely hard to make conversation across the table without raising our voices. Food-wise, everything was just… fine. Nothing stood out in a good way, and everything was noticeably too salty — the lobster pasta, the mussels, even the broccoli we ordered for the kids. The positives: we lucked into the best seat in the house at the roof corner with incredible sunset views, and our server was genuinely lovely and understanding, even if some of the other staff were less so. Overall, between the cleanliness issue and the mediocre food, it’s not somewhere we’d return — especially with kids.
The view? Absolutely magnificent, like a postcard you’d actually want to live in. But the food… well, let’s just say you have to try really hard to mess up guacamole, and they managed it. It was a mountain of it, just not the tasty kind. The margarita was decent enough to make you forget your culinary disappointment for a minute. And sure, the shishito peppers were okay, and the salads were… salads. We stuck to appetizers because the main courses just didn’t look like they’d be worth the splurge. In a nutshell: come for the view, maybe have a drink, and then go find your guacamole fix somewhere that doesn’t rely solely on scenery.
Extremely okay food in my opinion! The waiters were kind and the atmosphere and view was phenomenal. The focaccia dipping has a weird combination like tajin flavoured syrup and it has cream around it. I didn’t like it, it was okay. I keep the Evian water caps cause they were nice put something.
Food was OK. atmosphere meh beyond the window seating. Menu limited. I would not recommend if you're a foodie.

I’m not a local from San Diego. The two times I visited this place, everything was underwhelming from service to food. 1. Food - Salmon from the main entree, is not properly seasoned. I guess it is cooked thoroughly, but I am not tasting any seasoning other than bland potatoes and some dill. $38 for mediocre food is just really not worth it. 2. Additional Service fee of 5% is just unacceptable. I’m not sure why some restaurants in San Diego charge 5% of your total bill. 3. Views are great. 4. Please locals drop some good food recommendations. I’m so tired of bad restaurants in San Diego.
The place has a nice view — really the main reason we decided to try it. Unfortunately, the overall experience didn’t live up to expectations. Just a few minutes after being seated (before we even ordered), we asked to switch tables. The manager, Sasha, refused, saying it’s their policy not to change tables once guests are seated. While policies are understandable, her approach felt unnecessarily rigid. She came across as cold and lacking any sense of hospitality. The food was underwhelming. The chips seemed straight out of a bag — definitely not fresh. The crab spaghetti was okay and watery. Our server didn’t introduce herself and had a dry, unwelcoming attitude, as if she didn’t want to be there. She never smiled, barely acknowledged us, didn’t check in during the meal, and never offered to refill our waters or suggest drinks — mocktails or cocktails. Service overall was poor. The server essentially just took our order and disappeared. No attention to the table, no effort to create a positive dining experience. They also automatically added a 5% service charge, which felt unearned considering the lackluster service. I had added a note to our reservation that we were celebrating my sister’s birthday, but no one acknowledged it. No greeting, no dessert, not even a simple “Happy Birthday.” We just paid and left with a disappointing experience. For a nearly $200 tab, you’re better off going elsewhere. We were deciding between this place and Duke’s La Jolla — definitely go with Duke’s. The service and management here are unprofessional, unfriendly, and clearly inexperienced.

George's Bar: Where La Jolla Views Meet Unexpectedly Great Food
You know, when friends ask me for a spot in La Jolla that's got that quintessential California feel, George's Bar often comes to mind. It’s perched right there by the Cove, and honestly, even if you’re just popping in for a quick bite after a long journey – like some folks do, straight off the plane and battling jet lag – it just works. Most people are drawn in by the views, and for good reason. Seriously, looking out to sea from George's is more than just 'nice'; it’s truly beautiful, even sp...
