My son requested Harry's for his bday breakfast. I can't believe I had never been here before! I use the word 'cozy often when describing the really great spots...this is one of them! Just a proper diner-style joint with delicious food. We were instantly greeted by friendly staff and shown to our seat. The service just kept getting better after that and the waiter "rolled out the red carpet" when he found out there was a birthday. Mini pancakes with dipping syrup and whipped cream! Sometimes it's the little things.
2/8/26 This place is magical—truly. I’ve been in the restaurant industry since I was 13, and I’ve never had a dining experience this lovely, nor have I ever seen a resturant run this flawlessly. From the moment you walk in, the staff is incredibly welcoming. If you take a look around, you’ll see hosts genuinely chatting with regulars and servers working together seamlessly to make sure every table is taken care of. It’s basically an assembly line of joy?? And the food? Amazing. The whole experience felt like stepping back in time—to a place where people were excited to be alive, to work, and to eat; where life moved a bit slower and people actually connected with their community. This is a truly special place. To management and ownership- hats off! I hope you deeply appreciate your FOH staff, they couldn’t be doing a better job.
Very warm staff and great food at a fair price. Stopped by on the way from San Diego to Orange County and learned from the photos on the wall and staff about the Café history then by chance mey Harry's wife which was very friendly. A wonderful gem this café is in the city of La Jolla
We went to Harry’s Cafe in the morning for a birthday breakfast and they absolutely did not disappoint. The food came out fast, hot, and the portions were huge — definitely heaping plates and everything tasted delicious. You can tell they care about doing the basics really well. What made it even better was the birthday surprise they put together for our table. It was thoughtful, fun, and made the morning feel extra special without being over the top. The staff was friendly, attentive, and kept checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. Great food, great service, and a great way to start a birthday. We’ll definitely be coming back. Thanks for making our 6 year feel so special 💖
Styled like an old 60's Brooklyn diner, the menu was diverse and the atmosphere is fun. Our breakfast was a treat! Giant, thick, fluffy pancakes were served with fresh fruit and nuts. There was a 20 minute wait to be seated and another wait on line to pay our check.
Visited Henry’s Coffee Shop last August and had a lovely breakfast experience. The hash browns were absolutely delicious, and the chocolate pancakes were generous in portion, served with honey and butter. The coffee was good, and the hot chocolate was comforting as well. A cozy, satisfying spot for a relaxed breakfast in La Jolla.
My 11 yr old phrased it perfectly. "This is the best breakfast ive ever had." Dude, yes. If you are in La Jolla do yourself a favor and come by for breakfast. Mimosas, bloody Mary's, milkshakes, no notes. These were the thinnest crispiest waffles ive had in ky entire life. Eggs, hash browns, all of it, amazing. My wife who is incredibly picky with chilequiles said these were some of the best she has ever had. Im not sure there is a bad dish to be had here.
My partner chose this place for breakfast, one morning in La Jolla, as we attempted to pass a little time, hoping the all-encompassing gray clouds would burn off, at the beach. Harry's Coffee Shop is like walking into a Time Warp, of pure Americana. It has that perfect diner vibe. Vintage pictures line the walls here. My favorite, was of the owner, standing alongside Willie Mays. It was a huge booth to ceiling black & white photo, which reminded an old timer like me, of my days of listening to baseball on the radio. Now on to the food. I loved my breakfast here! The hash browns were amazingly crisp-both sides, and had that strived-for golden brown color. My chicken-fried steak was a decently-sized portion, with a nice floured & fried coating, plus it was smothered in a distinctly different & delicious white gravy, with hints of rosemary. My scrambled eggs arrived to my table hot, & had a creamy texture, with buttery flavor. Our server was attentive, & friendly, bringing me a stainless steel carafe of coffee, after I plowed through my first cup. Near the end of our visit here, service lagged, & our server was slow to get our check, & to-go boxes. For this reason, I gave 4 stars for service. Everything else about our time here, was perfect. This place has been here, since 1960, & after eating here, I can certainly see why. The prices are decent, & the menu choices, abundant. My partner loved her Veggie Omelette, & she chose a Pancake, for her choice of bread, which was delicious, as well. There are 2 small lockable all gender bathrooms at Harry's. Both are in the same general area. 1 is located down a long narrow hallway, by the back door. The other is outside the restaurant's back door, then just to your right. The restrooms were tidy & clean. There is a large parking lot behind Harry's Coffee Shop, & that's good, because street parking in front is limited, & tough to come by. I loved this quaint coffee shop, which serves old timey vibes, & excellent food.
I went to this place on a Wednesday around 11 a.m. so parking was easy to find and the wait was not too wild. I did notice the service was very quick. It took a while to get our bill and to pay. But, the food came pretty fast. I odredered the california burrito and it tasted pretty good. I did not feel a lot of carne asada, but who knows. My favorite thing was the cafe mocha !!! I thinkt he items were well priced given the fact the the portions are HUGE! You could definitely split a dish with someone. I will go back to this place because there is quality, it is something different.
We stopped her on our way to La Jolla Cove and it was worth it. Old school feel inside and excellent breakfast dishes. The hash browns are wonderfully crispy and the coffee was great. My daughter got a breakfast burrito and it was generously large. Best part is they have their own parking lot in the back, so you don't have to pay to park or hunt for a street spot.
The nostalgic diner atmosphere is so cute. We had a wonderful time sitting outside and enjoying the breeze. The food is phenomenal. Talk about a sweet and salty cure for the breakfast hunger. The BW benny is a nice breakfast to start your day If you’re in the area stop in it’s so worth it.
There is a reason why this place has been in business since 1960. The food was great and on par with every other breakfast restaurant price-wise. I got the BW Benny's and it was delicious. My aunt and mom split the oatmeal pancakes and really enjoyed theirs as well. Our server was even better than the mesh.
We visited during our spring break vacation, and it was one of our highlights. It did take a while to be seated, even when half the restaurant was empty, but we did visit on a Thursday morning and it seemed like they had limited staff. Once we were seated, we had a great experience. The staff was incredibly engaging with our kids, and we really enjoyed our food. Our kids shared pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream, and didn't leave one crumb behind. We also ordered a carne asada breakfast burrito, the salsa on the side had the perfect amount of spice kick to it. Everything on the menu looked great!
We ordered: - breakfast burrito with sausage 9/10 you can change the sausage for bacon and other stuff - chicken fried on top of a thin waffle 8/10 - corned beef hash & eggs 9/10 - original waffle 8/10 - original pancake 8/10 - hot cocoa 10/10 it’s made with water and it’s amazing The food was pretty good but they took forever to give us our plates, for real like 45 minutes. The diner is a little filthy, the rug is not clean, the restrooms are not clean. I’m not from San Diego and I’ve been there twice, it’s really different from the first time I was there it’s like they stop caring.
Awesome food, service, and price. There is a good reason why this place survived for over 60 years. Coffee was decent, too. I loved the oatmeal pancakes. Fruit parfait, or fruit bowl with yogurt and granola was excellent and generous. Tuna melt sandwich was delicious and even had a gluten free option! Our server Shelly was friendly and actually smiled, which I find are becoming rare these days. Street parking in the front and more parking in the rear.
Delicious food, cozy feel, and sitting at the bar was fun interacting with the staff!

I've been there twice twice. The place is not very clean and the food is OK easy to get in and out to have a parking in the back.
Honestly was disappointed. The chilaquiles had a strange taste due to the oil that the hashbrowns were cooked in. Wasn’t appetizing at all and I left most of it uneaten. I definitely expected much better taste and experience for how expensive the dish was.. mocha Coffee was alright, a little more on the sweeter side than what I have had . I just feel it wasn’t worth the $40 spent there on coffee and chilaquiles.
Pancakes taste like plastic, as if you are chewing gum. French toast wasnt fully cooked. Eggs are ok. Place has a very old carpet that seems like its never been cleaned. Wouldnt recommend unless you are going for something salty and you dont care about how dirty the place is.
