Pinpoint Cafe

This is a small and somewhat hidden cafe that boasts bigger-than-life views! You feel like you are in a hidden forest with a distant yet dazzling view of the ocean. The atmosphere is very relaxed with many coming here to study or read.

Such a beautiful location. Look at the scenery. I will continue to come here. It’s wonderful. I really recommend lemon bread cake. Delicious.

Beautiful, small cafe on UCSD's campus. Parking is street parallel parking, with a one hour limit. Perfect time to grab a bite and do some work while enjoying the view. I saw the line get a bit busy, but I came and had no trouble finding a good seat at 8am and noise never was an issue. Used my laptop and the free wifi to get some work done, watched the waves, saw some pups, and left before I stayed too long. Would definitely come back!

Amazing hidden gem. Unbeatable for anyone visiting La Jolla!

Super cute cafe in paradise. The drinks are very tasty and it’s so relaxing to walk along the biological grade listening to the ocean while sipping. I had the iced Mexican decaf mocha with water only (no milk), I only wish I’d gotten a larger size! This is not the cheapest coffee spot but you’re paying for the views.

Easily one of the best I’ve had in San Diego. The vibe of the place is cozy and welcoming, and the barista was incredibly friendly, making the whole experience even better. Whether you’re a coffee enthusiast or just looking for a chill spot to relax, this place is a gem. Highly recommend—5 stars all the way!

Matcha is a little too sweet, the views are incredible though.

The highlight of this coffee shop is the view of the La Jolla Shores Beach. The actual coffee shop is okay but a bit pricey. Also, there are not many places to park around the shop. You can definitely tell this is part of a college campus.

It’s not a coffee shop, it’s for students. But you can drink a coffee with the sound of the sea. I don’t think that is a good coffee, just like a normal or regular coffee

Located on Biological Grade in La Jolla above the Scripps Pier, this outdoor cafe has beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. You order at the counter, find your table, and pick up your food at the counter. They have multiple tables/chairs. Some tables have umbrellas. Parking is difficult to find because a lot of the spots in this area are permit only. We had the chocolate chip banana bread, nutella banana toast, avocado tomato basil toast, and an iced vanilla latte. We enjoyed hearing the ocean waves and watching the surfers.

The coffee was really good and the views are special! Getting a good spot can be a challenge but if you wait enough or come at an odd time this would be a non issue. We struggled to find easy parking close enough to the place. As mentioned in the other reviews this place doesn’t have a restroom so plan accordingly!

Decent coffee place with amazing view.

My experience was consistent with my last trip, though the food leaned average again. This time, I tried the açaí bowl and banana toast. The açaí bowl was fresh but unremarkable, with standard toppings and no real wow factor. The banana toast was decent but felt basic—lacking a unique touch to elevate it. Reflecting on my previous visit, the smoked salmon dish I had then was noticeably better, with more flavor and care in preparation. The cafe’s outdoor-only patio seating, with partial ocean views near Scripps Pier, remains its biggest draw. It’s a great spot on nice days, but you’re out of luck if the weather turns. Service was friendly, and prices are fair for the area. Parking’s still a pain near UCSD, and the 3 PM weekday closing (with no weekend hours) limits flexibility. Pinpoint’s fine for a casual stop in good weather, but the food’s hit-or-miss—stick with the smoked salmon if you’re craving something tastier.

Being new to San Diego I am always in search of eateries/cafes with an ocean view. The view is really pretty, however the tables and chairs are very dirty and covered in bird poop 😩 I can’t comment on the food because I only got a coffee and it was ok. I really wanted to work from here but I was unable to fully relax because I was trying to sit in a way that I wasn’t touching the bird poop and I didn’t want to put my laptop out on the table. I want to come back if they are able to maintain the seating areas a little better. One thing I’ve noticed in San Diego is a lot of places seem to rely either on their aesthetic or just the vibes rather than really being simpler but maybe more quality.

The employees were very nice, but the cafe bar seems a bit dirty. I ordered an ice latte and found it to be very watered down and nothing special, more like subpar. I think the best part was the view but there wasn’t much else notable.

The view is awesome. The music at the cafe is too loud and disruptive. It is meant for a bar not a peaceful seaside place like this
