The service here is outstanding. Everyone from the guy in the valet service, to the waiter is an amazing person. Have in mind that there is a dress code here, so don't wear shorts if you come here! I recommend you try the lobster and the scallops. Just about everything we had was great. Also, wine and beer selections are pretty good. 5/5.
Marine Room has been one of our favorites for years for several reasons. The ocean views are spectacular. The service is efficient, personable and welcoming. The vibe is upscale without pretentiousness. The food is delectable. On this visit, we received everything we expected. Here are the dishes we ate: Amuse Bouche - a rich fishy flavored type broth that excited your palate for the next dish Lobster bisque - rich, creamy and sapid. The pieces of lobster were perfectly cooked. Peruvian Crudo - gorgeously plated with the variety of colors of each component and the textural difference each piece added to the dish. The fish was fresh and the dish was light. Seared salmon with fettuccine - as my daughter described her dish, “the fish is cooked perfectly. The outside seared and crispy while the inside is still soft and juicy. They also seasoned it really well.” Snake river farms filet mignon - tender and cooked to the right temp. The mashed potatoes were pillowy and paired well with the demi. Local bluefin tuna - another beautifully plated dish with its different shapes and pops of color. Tuna was cooked well and I loved the variety of sauces. Truffle yuca fries - this was the only dish that missed it for us. Flavor was fine, but it was too hard; difficult to eat. Lemon lavender cake - this was brought out to us with a candle for our celebration. The cake was moist and flavors well balanced. Chocolate lava cake - satisfyingly decadent. For my cocktail I ordered, Thank you Sonny Chiba which is a Japanese whiskey with aperol, grapefruit, orgeat and lemon. It was light and paired well with my dinner. We paid approximately $484 (with tip) and we would absolutely come back.
I absolutely fell in love with this restaurant! If you are looking for something for a special occasion or even to just treat yourself, or whoever this is definitely the place to go to. The moment you walk in the door it is so captivating and the ambiance is absolutely incredible definitely succeed my expectations! Overall absolutely wonderful! My boyfriend and I had came here for our anniversary and it was both our first time here and the service exceed our expectations exponentially! I was all smiles the whole time because of how lovely everything is and it smells so nice as soon as you walk in you can most definitely tell that there is thought into every single detail in this restaurant which is so nice. The view is not only captivating but the food that is served here is so delicious and I find it so admirable how the staff has so much knowledge of The Marine room and when reading the menu they explain everything perfectly and even the science behind the food which I absolutely love ! As for the taste of the food I had ordered a Wagyu steak and as soon as I took the first bite it was like a burst of flavor and emotion in my pallet and the food had made my pallet dance. My boyfriend had ordered steak and lobster (I cannot remember what it was named on the menu) and it was absolutely delicious as well. We were also given a complementary dessert that we were told was off menu and it had made the experience even more memorable since it was my boyfriends and I anniversary and that was the absolute sweetest thing a restaurant has ever done in my experience and I will always remember the feeling that this restaurant has gave me. I’ve been talking about this place nonstop since and recommended to people I know and which also, inspired me more to write a review. There is so much more I could say but I’d just be rambling on this review lol. Thank you to the Owner and Staff for such a wonderful experience I will most definitely be looking forward to another experience <3
I have to say, this restaurant is the most memorable part of my trip to San Diego. Super nice view of the beach and especially, the food is DELICIOUS. I am a fine dining person, I like the experience but I don’t often say the world “delicious” but this is exceptional. Their dessert wine is also great if you a sweet wine person. Staff is very friendly
Hard to beat the view especially at sunset hour. We made reservation for my birthday to eat at the lounge thinking we could order dinner here but came to find out the lounge reservations are only for drinks and appetizers/small plates. So for those that want to enjoy dinner, book the dining room. Nevertheless we had a great time and highly recommend this restaurant for those special occasions. The appetizers were delicious and staff very helpful and kind.
Maybe the only place in San Diego where the food outshines the view. What an experience. The service and food are world class, on par with Michelin level dining. Our server Jonathan and his team took great care of us. Chef’s amuse bouche of cream of garlic soup was a delight. The bread service was in the top 3 I’ve ever had as was the Caesar. I had the Sablefish and my wife had the filet mignon. Both exceeded our expectations, which is hard to do with a filet. If going for a special night out, this place will not disappoint.
7/25/22 Amazingly beautiful food presentation and taste. Staff was very kind and attentive. You can dine here anywhere from $100 to $600 for a table of 2 depending on your budget. We will definitely eat here again. 7/25/24 We did eat here again. Amazing atmosphere, Jonathan was also our server again and awesome. Food was amazing. They gave us a complementary dessert for our anniversary. Highly recommend this place!
The Marine Room is one of the premier dining spots in all of San Diego for a reason. The view and location are nothing short of amazing. The service rivals no one as they are clearly in a class of their own. The food, we’ll that is the best part and I thank the chef for excellent selections and fabulous flavors. Yes, I’ll be back!!!
This is definitely the spot for special occasions. Stefano provided great service throughout and other staff was very attentive, but don't fill up on bread! I doubt you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The food tastes as good, if not better than it looks. View is gorgeous. Go if you can!
The Marine Room is truly a treat when it comes to fine dining. The service was pleasant and professional. The cuisine was spectacular! If your looking for an upscale restaurant with panoramic views this is perfect. You’ll want to make reservations in advance and take note of the dress code. You can expect to spend at least $50 per person. We enjoyed our evening so much we would most definitely recommend and plan to return in the future.
Amazing place and a 10/10 recommend. We made reservations a couple weeks in advance after hearing about the place online. Figured it was a good place to have a nice dinner on our vacation - and we were right! Our waiter, Kevin was absolutely wonderful and later told us it was actually his first day off training - would have never guessed. We had amazing apps, highly recommend the Brussels sprouts. And the filet mignon was like butter, the flounder was out of this world as well. And forget the view!! Such a relaxing dinner. Also recommend stopping by The Lounge (their bar area) before dinner if you have time. We were able to sit at a table and grab a few drinks before our reservation time. Drinks were 10/10 as well! This place is pricey, you’ll likely end up spending 100+ per person after apps, entrees, dessert, and drinks but honestly we found it to be very worth it for the service, food and ambience. not an everyday place for us but perfect for a special occasion.
Everything incredible from the fantastic view to the friendly staff and tasty food. We ordered porterhouse for 2 that give us a option of one side which we picked mushroom. Honestly steak was overcooked but still juicy and delicious. View is super gorgeous and breathtaking, if you are looking for some fancy place with great view highly recommended marine room.
2024 Update: Celebrated my daughter's birthday here. Seems like the quality of the food and experience has gone up a notch. Everything we order was awesome. Heavenly delicious. Surely Michelin star is incoming .... 2019 post: Great view of the ocean and beach at the Marine room. Good selection for high tide breakfast
One of my favorite places in La Jolla. The view is beyond amazing, especially when it is high tide. The service is superb 👌. Everything is done with providing the best quality to the customer. We came for our anniversary and the meal was fabulous. We stopped for a night cap at the bar. Tony, the bartender, is one of the best.
I must admit I had been staring at the reviews for weeks before finally going. It was definitely a great way to celebrate ourselves. The experience was superior. The server was great. The food was such a delight. It was delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly. I love the fact the menu is always changing. I highly recommend experiencing this facility.
Fantastic experience! We went for our anniversary and it was the perfect choice. Phenomenal food and service, and we even got an off-menu dessert as an anniversary gift. You can't go wrong with any dish, and the views are so lovely, especially if you're facing out into the ocean. Would recommend for any special occasion. Definitely make your reservation early if you have a specific day in mind
The Marine Room offers a premium dining experience where the price is certainly justified by the exceptional quality of the food. Each dish is expertly crafted with fresh, flavorful ingredients, and the stunning oceanfront setting adds to the overall ambiance. While it’s on the pricier side, the exquisite taste and impeccable service make it well worth the splurge for a memorable meal.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the chance to visit one of the best dining spots in San Diego—The Marine Room. Saying it has an incredible ocean view doesn't do it justice. It’s almost indescribable. The unique experience of dining right at the edge of the beach, where the waves nearly touch your table, is something special. But don’t worry—you’re safely behind glass, so you can enjoy the stunning view and the food without getting your feet wet. We tried the lobster bisque, scallops and trout, but what truly stood out was the side order of mushrooms. If you're ordering a dish, I highly recommend adding that side—you’ll enjoy it the most. The staff was friendly from the moment we walked in, making the whole place feel upscale, as if you were a VIP guest. What left the biggest impression on me was the bartender, Tony. His drinks were delicious and made with real care. We ordered several rounds and savored every drop. Tony elevated our experience, being so attentive and genuinely interested in how we were enjoying the food and the overall experience. We ended up staying by the bar longer than at the table and until closing time! He’s definitely someone who cares about the place and ensures that people want to come back. If you visit, I highly recommend starting your evening with drinks at the bar while you wait for your table. You won’t be disappointed.
I consider this one of the top 10 restaurants in San Diego. View is top notch. Food is outstanding - beautiful and delicious. Service is dependent on who you get - for a fine dining restaurant, service levels were mixed. Irma was the one that ensured that we left feeling welcomed and treated well. When it comes to fine dining - gotta have ambiance (5*), service (4*) and good food (5*).
Had a great experience at The Marine Room. Me and my friends went there for my birthday from Houston, Texas and I must say their food, atmosphere, service everything is amazing and professional. They even had custom made menus that had my name on it . So unique !! Tom assisted us with food and everything. He was very professional and answered all of our questions. He also suggested some great places to visit at San Diego. Shout out to Tom. Will definitely be back .
When my friend came to visit from out of town, I knew The Marine Room would be the perfect place to showcase San Diego’s charm. I made a reservation well in advance, specifically asking to seat us close to the windows. I’d heard so many great stories about the views during high tide, one friend even claimed to see fish hitting the windows (probably just a tale😂!). Unfortunately, I didn’t time it perfectly, and it was low tide when we went. But the experience was still amazing. The ambiance was cozy yet elevated, the staff were super friendly, and the food was delicious. I also loved the cute touch at the end: favors in the shape of seahorse chocolates. Even without the dramatic high tide, the setting was incredible and we enjoyed our dinner immensely, and I’d absolutely recommend it for a special night out. Just a tip: check the tide charts when booking if you’re hoping for that high-tide magic!
We spent about a week in Turk and Caicos visiting family with family and traveling from one of the island to the other eating everywhere this place is a standout top-of-the-line best place on the island and maybe the Caribbean everything is fantastic including the staff and the food is unbelievable the best lasagna I've ever had this side of Italy or anything including
This was our first time dining at The Marine Room. Atmosphere, 💯. Service, 💯. Food, 💯. It was our anniversary and they pulled out all the stops to celebrate with us. We both had the filet mignon with a side of the wild mushrooms. The cocktails were also delish! And beautiful views for days!
It's one of my favorite places to go for food and ambiance. The food experience is out of this world. The flavors are on point. The servers are very attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is like no other. I highly recommend you spoil your spouse on that special occasion. If you can find a better all-around restaurant, please let me know. I will be returning when in town.
Absolutely loved coming here for mine and my husband’s first wedding anniversary. The staff really made us feel special and both Stefano and Marissa treated us as if we were the most special guests (even tho it was a packed house!) that kind of service is hard to find. The food was amazing, steak and fish were so tender and flavorful. Great recommendations from Stefano and Marissa. A front seat to the ocean just adds to the ambiance. Will definitely be back!
Atmosphere (5/5) Beautiful and unique atmosphere! I loved the soft and organic-shaped couches and the long dining hall lined with huge windows looking out at the beach. Service (5/5) Very courteous and professional. Came to take orders after an appropriate wait, had helpful suggestions, and the food came out at a good time. My only criticism was that we had to wait for a little while even after arriving at our reserved time. Food (5/5) The quality of the food matched the elegance of the surrounding. The lobster bisque indeed earned its place a classic signature of the restaurant, as the waiter described. I also liked the selection of desserts—the ice cream cake (“Cobblestone pie”) and caramel mousse (“Caramelia”) were both very nice.
I had the pleasure of dining at The Marine Room and was thoroughly impressed by the exemplary standard of service and cuisine. From the outset, the staff demonstrated impeccable professionalism, offering attentive and courteous service. The atmosphere was refined and elegant, creating a perfect setting for a sophisticated dining experience. The menu was thoughtfully crafted, showcasing exceptional ingredients and culinary creativity. Each course was presented with great attention to detail, and the flavors were memorable. I would highly recommend it to those seeking exceptional cuisine, outstanding service, and an elegant setting.
My husband and I had a great time. We had made reservations for the Rising Tide Dinner and we got such a great table by a window. The view was absolutely gorgeous, skies were clear with wisps of clouds and we enjoyed seeing the sunset and the waves. Food was incredible, presented well and it was delicious. Three course meal was so good everything sounded great. We got the Crudo and Steak Tartare to start. 2nd course we got the Chicken with gnocchi and the Spotted Sea Bass. AMAZING. The desserts were so yummy...Strawberry Cheesecake and the S'mores were great. Had a couple drinks each: Sumac Sunset and Rum for the Hills and overall it was such a relaxing outing. Valet wasn't even that expensive $15, well worth it. Will be back for sure!
We got a last-minute reservation and they were able to accommodate with a table with great views. The food was better than what I expected, and we started with beets salad, followed by tuna dish, and their famous branzino. We didn’t try any cocktails instead ordered a glass of Prosecco. Also desserts are so good. Overall pricey, but worth it. Fantastic experience and can’t wait to come back for sunset views.
My partner and I had dinner at The Marine Room last night, and it was an incredible experience. We dined in the dining room, where the atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the view of the ocean is absolutely astonishing, it really adds something special to the evening. We especially loved the Peruvian crudo and the Beef carpaccio, both dishes were fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. To top it all off, the team surprised us with a complimentary anniversary cake, which made the night feel even more special.
Worth every penny. From the posh neighbor it sits in next to the Tennis and Beach club to the decor to the food and of course we all go to sit in the lounge and watch the waves. Book for high tide and after the sunset. This gives less reflection while taking photos. Place is amazing. I had the blackened swordfish with an amazing cocktail made with green apples and Grey goose
We visited there 21 years ago and we excited to bring our friends for dinner. I made reservations for 14 a week in advance and was able to get in for a sunset dinner. Located in the beach in LaJolla it is a great place to dine. The service was wonderful and atmosphere was elegant. I had the filet mignon and Cesar salad.
Was amazing experience and good food. We love our time there. I ordered oysters and my husband ordered tuna both was amazingly cooked. We celebrated our anniversary and they offered us a complimentary sweet. Love the sunset time if you book your reservation and hour before sunset you should be good.
Took my boyfriend here for his birthday. Lovely atmosphere and food. Worth it. The Bunny Slope drink was to die for. I can’t stop thinking about it. Both tartare appetizers were phenomenal, specifically the steak. The caviar was lovely, just melted right in our mouths. I ordered the Japanese A5 Wagyu and it was phenomenal. No words can describe. Boyfriend got the Australian Wagyu; tried and it was tender and juicy. 10/10 recommend.
Outstanding! Big meaty lobster, Japanese 4oz wygu was more fatty than meaty. Had better wygu other places like Animae but didn't try Australian wygu here cause Japanese is normally best! Shrooms tasted amazing. Couldn't taste speckled truffle on potatoe puree but squash was good with pomegranate seeds. All their mixed drinks were presented nicely in Small cups. Drinks like cast your spell and ain't talking bout pumpkin were our seasonal go to. Great view of ocean and waves. Tried going during king high tide, but even at max peak, waves didn't Crash up against the windows like they did last time for us. $300 for 2 people with our order above, could've definitely doubled that with a bottle of wine or escargot or oysters.
Beautiful setting! Waiter was very knowledgeable. Food and service were exceptional. Extensive wine list. Started with some focaccia then trout tartare which was excellent. Entrees included the ahi tuna and seared scallops both outstanding. Dessert was the apple spice cake as the base with cheesecake mousse on top. Very light and satisfying dessert to hit the spot. Ending with 2 complimentary chocolate truffles.
We visited The Marine Room in La Jolla for a special date night, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The ambiance is exceptional — candlelight, ocean views, and an intimate atmosphere that makes it perfect for a meaningful evening. It feels elegant without being overwhelming. The food was outstanding. The tuna dishes were incredibly fresh and beautifully plated, with bold yet refined flavors. The seared entrée in the rich sauce was perfectly cooked and full of depth. The cocktails were equally impressive — balanced, refreshing, and crafted with care. Every dish looked like art and delivered on flavor. Our server was amazing — attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. The service made us feel welcomed and taken care of from start to finish. The Marine Room offers more than just dinner — it delivers a complete experience. Highly recommended for a special evening in La Jolla.
30th Birthday for my youngest daughter. Dreamy! The waves crashing against the floor to ceiling windows was epic. Curry blue crab soup was divine. The lamb roast was heavenly and the lobster melted in our mouths. Exceptional service as well!! Worth the price!!
Marissa was so amazing!!! We celebrated my sisters 21st and she went above and beyond for us!! (we are picky lol) She made the night so special!! No complains at all whatsoever! SERVICE WAS AMAZING! If you go please request Marissa she will make your dinning experience the best! Only complain would be the host ruined a surprise bday after we told them the birthday girl will be coming in a few minutes please don’t mention the party size just say for 2 and she told the birthday girl “party of 6?”
The service was impeccable and the food was perfect, including flavored, consistency and presentation. Excellent wine selection by glass and by bottle. I enjoyed glass of Etna Rosso, which is red that is quite versatile to pair with endive salad and fish. I was dining by myself but around were tables of small groups and couples. It's a mix atmosphere where some my come for a romantic dinner. And some for friends or colleagues to catch up over a nice meal.
This is one of the best restaurants we have been to. Not only is it by the ocean and the views are amazing but the staff far supersedes expectations. They are simply amazing and friendly and the food was first class. Definitely recommend and would return when back in that area.
Some of the best food and the best service. We had the crudo, oysters on half shell, caviar, ribeye and risotto. Sides: mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. The focaccia bread was possibly the best. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. Drinks were tasty as well! Never had to ask for anything. Superb.
Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in La Jolla. Beautiful views with delicious food! Highly recommend for anyone visiting La Jolla to go enjoy a lovely dinner with an amazing view of the beach. There is also a dress code.
This is such a magnificent restaurant experience. The marine room is situated on the water and at high tide the waves come crashing right up to the windows! We went at the evening high tide and even though it was dark out, it was still very enjoyable. The food was exquisite, but I do feel like the service quality could have been better. In comparison to the way he served our table, I feel like our waiter was much more engaging to other parties around us and that did dampen the experience some. It’s definitely a restaurant I would return to as the food and views are great, hopefully the service quality will match the rest of my experience in the future.
Our waiter was amazing!!! I wish I remembered his name. Anyhow, he was probably the best waiter I’ve had! We had breakfast day one, special orders… the next day, he greeted us by name and asked if we wanted… he repeated what we had the morning before even with the special parts! He kept my coffee full and hubby’s drink full as well. Great food, view, and TOP NOTCH waiter!
I had my bf's Birthday here today and the staff was very attentive and Rick was great! He was really informative about the menu. Our waitress was very professional and nice! They definitely made this evening very special for the both of us as first timers! We tried the lobster bisque, the West Coast Oysters, Korean Steak Tartare, Tasmanian Ocean Trout and Local Bluefin Tuna Tataki! All great and Amazing service! The Views — oh my radical. Whole experience, chefs kiss 🤌🏽🙌🏽! Appreciate the awesome experience, will return for that Tomahawk Steak!!
Thank you for a lovely birthday dinner. This is a romantic, upscale, and modern spot. Try the oysters, they were remarkable and I'll order a larger portion next time. We had a roasted lobster tail and that was fresh and well made, with only a small chewy bit. The other fish dish had an amazing flavor and spice, and was perfectly cooked. The bread is fantastic, I loved the Hawaiian salt but as there's already sea salt on the crust of the bread we did not add much, however that might be nice to add a smidge to a steak. There's is some free street parking available, although consider that some streets are narrow, hilly, or busier during the day and at sunset. The restaurant does have valet parking available on sight. Reservations are highly recommended. The bathrooms are incredibly clean thank you for that I love a clean bathroom, and the powder room is mod, chic, and worth striking a pose. The dessert gets a special comment as the lemon cake hit right on every note, moist, soft, fresh, sweet, lemony, tart, smooth, again it was excellent. The ocean view was lovely and you can see the ocean waves at night. I'm looking forward to updating my review with comments on the surf and turf for my next visit.
Lovely restaurant with a gorgeous view. I came here with 2 friends for a little birthday celebration. We had a reservation for the main restaurant but we really wanted to have a better view so we sat at the lounge area and got a more restricted menu. We started off with drinks and asked for 3 mocktails. They were okay. Mine was a bit bitter and they offered to make it sweeter which was nice. For the food, we ordered 2 octopus, 1 lamb shank and a side of truffle yucca fries. The octopus was very good and the yucca fries were delicious. The lamb was okay. They then brought us a creme brûlée cake for my friend which was very nice and it tasted very good. They also gave us truffle chocolate when we finished dining. We ended the evening by watching sunset after dinner and it was so beautiful!
The atmosphere and the service is why you go to this restaurant. Yes the food is good but just know, it's old school. Simple steaks and seafood, which is delicious don't get me wrong but as an ex-chef, there was nothing on the menu that the casual home chef couldn't execute to a similar level of execution. Again, food is delicious, just not the star of the show. The star is by far the atmosphere. I'm not good at pictures. Also should note, they did give us a free anniversary desert which I wish they hadn't, it was a fantastic gesture but the cake was stale and we had our eyes on a different desert. Our server Jonathan was a rockstar, very pro, very kind, very professional.
Me gustó
Good location, great view from the window. The view from the window is the main reason to come. The food is really delicious. Good, polite waiters. But I didn't like the moment with the fact that we wanted to book a table specifically by the window, as we had a wedding anniversary and we wanted to feel a romantic atmosphere. We called but no one answered the phone. When we arrived, we were not seated by the window, but literally a couple of minutes later a table by the window was vacated, we asked to be moved. The administrator replied that this table was booked by some man. After they put 2 girls there, it means they lied to us. It turns out that they lied to us and simply did not want to transplant us. On the plus side, they let us in with our dog without question. When we said that it was our anniversary, they brought us dessert as a gift. Above average prices
The Marine Room offers an undeniably beautiful setting. Our seats were incredible, with sweeping ocean views that made for a truly memorable atmosphere. The ambiance alone is worth experiencing at least once. When it came to the food, however, the experience didn’t fully match the setting. I found the small plates to be more enjoyable than the entrées. The Thai curry soup and the perfect caviar bite stood out as thoughtful and well-executed. My partner ordered the filet mignon and lobster, but unfortunately, the filet was overcooked. I had the wagyu, which was underwhelming and lacked the depth of flavor I expected at this level. While service was decent, it didn’t elevate the overall experience. For a $700 meal, I had hoped for a more refined and consistent dining experience. The Marine Room is worth visiting for the view and ambiance, but I’d recommend setting expectations accordingly when it comes to the food.
We celebrated our anniversary at Marine Room and made a reservation a week in advance, requesting a window seat, but were told it couldn’t be guaranteed. Parking was $15, and we were seated quickly by polite staff. The service was good, and we received a complimentary appetizer, though I didn’t enjoy it because it had onions. Unfortunately, the scallops I ordered had sand in them, which really ruined the dish. At the end, we got two complimentary scoops of sorbet with a candle, which was a sweet touch. When we got the check, it was $100 more than we were supposed to pay — if we hadn’t checked, we would have been charged way more.
We visited this restaurant to celebrate our one year anniversary, and while there were some really lovely touches, the overall experience didn’t quite live up to the high expectations, especially given the price point. On the positive side, the team customized our menus with a sweet anniversary message, gave us a beautiful window seat with a view, and never made us feel rushed. The service was decent, and the overall vibe was calm and upscale. That said, for a bill that came out to over $700 for two people (with tip), I expected a higher level of attention to detail and execution. I ordered the surf and turf ($157) with my steak medium rare, but it came out medium well. I typically don’t send things back, but at that price, I wanted it done right. To the restaurant's credit, the waiter apologized, had a new steak prepared, and removed the lobster tail from the bill. Still, it left me feeling underwhelmed. There were other small misses, like the yucca fries my partner and I ordered to share. They came out with truffle oil on them, despite us asking for it on the side. Not a huge deal in isolation, but again, for a high-end experience, I expected more care. Maybe it’s my bias coming from the NYC area, where even mid-range restaurants often deliver a wow factor. While this place might be worth it for a one-time special occasion, I personally left disappointed and wouldn’t rush back.
Food was amazing and the atmosphere was great as well. I realize this is Turks and everything is a bit expensive and we are willing to pay extra for the experience- but we also have teenage children with us - this restaurant charged us for every Coke and Tea refill - we had $30 in Cokes and refills - that is a money grab to me. A restaurant of this caliber can do better than that.
I went last night to celebrate my engagement and we were disappointed. We usually get asked if we are celebrating anything and we didn’t the couple next to us go there 15 mins after us and got asked by the same bald older waiter if they had allergies and if they were celebrating anything , they got there food before us they were done eating by the time we got out food. They got a complementary cake for the girls birthday and the couple next to us did as well. It just felt like everyone else’s service was so nice except ours we came here expecting really nice thoughtful service we didn’t get that which we did last time. After my fiancé was upset he directly told him it was our engagement dinner and he did bring us some wine to celebrate but like eh. The only reason we tipped 80$ was we really liked irmas service I don’t think we will be eating here again not over the food tho
This was my first visit there and we were celebrating my birthday. The restaurant ambience and obviously the location being on the la Jolla coast were nice along with top notch services. But their food and quality/quantity they served were way below an acceptable level as we were expecting in such a restaurant. Their $115 steak dish was fatty and low quality meat. Their fish dish for $60-70 was barely a couple of inches long, without any side vegetables. Charging $8 for a cup of tea. Although I must say that we enjoyed their table tasty bread. But they stopped that after the second piece. I am not sure if they actually charge us for that as my son paid for the meal.
Another mediocre experience in San Diego. We arrived on time but we were asked to wait for the table, which took almost 15 minutes despite the fact that the restaurant wasn’t full. They eventually gave us a tiny table, which was very low and wobbly. A cocktail table instead of a proper dining table, in the lounge area. We asked to move to a bigger table in the same section, but still it felt a bit improvised. No table cloth, unlike the rest of the restaurant. View was very good. The menu didn’t have many options. I managed to find something I liked, which in the end was good enough but nothing to write home about. The food made me sick, and spent the night feeling unwell.
After rude wait staff 30+ years ago I was talked into returning here for dinner. The food was good and the view, if you happen to get one of the good tables which we didn't, is amazing. The cocktails were well made. The lobster bisque was terrific with ample lobster bits. The Caesar Salad was good with nice citrus notes. The Sea Bream was surprisingly good. Unfortunately the wait staff lived down to the past, but in a different way. They were polite this visit vs my youth when I swore never to return (took a date here before a formal dance - mistake!). This time - Empty water glasses, bread after the course, taking silverware away before food arrived, etc. They certainly aren't spending their 5% labor surcharge on staffing. Expensive for what you get. Plenty of better food with service to match prices at other places in town. If you get a view table worth going for that but not much else.
We visited the Marine room today for the view mainly and it was quite nice. If you want to come here for celebration it’s very suitable as long as the weather is nice and you come before the sunset. Service was nice and atmosphere was great overall. However, the food was okay but the portion/quality were not matching the price tag, we ordered one appetizer two main one side and one dessert which sum up to around 240 after tip . Though I do understand there are some mark up for the food given the location/view. Worst experience is the valet, we don’t get to choose to self park so we had to valet and it is 15 dollars so I expected this to be a flat fee since we didn’t have a choice. After the driver picked the car up for us, he specifically checks whether we paid on credit card and asked us why we didn’t pay a tip, proceeding to say “I park 45 cars and could be serving others instead of you. You shouldn’t choose to valet in the future if you don’t tip”. I wasn’t given a choice to valet and probably won’t comeback because of this. And this service doesn’t even deserve 15 dollars. I would say the restaurant staff service were all great but the valet service really ruined our experience.
I dined at The Marine Room with high expectations, having reserved a chef's table experience with “guaranteed optimal seating.” The promise of a prime seat was the main reason I chose to drive to the restaurant while on vacation. However, upon arrival, I was given a seat with a poor view, far from the 'optimal' experience I was promised. This initial letdown set a negative tone for the evening, which the food unfortunately could not redeem. While the restaurant itself has a great ambiance and potential, the dishes and cocktails served were mid-level at best—certainly not worth the drive or the hype. Overall, The Marine Room comes across as a place that relies on false advertising to lure customers in for their High Tide Chefs Table dinner, only to deliver a subpar experience. Despite the appealing setting, the combination of broken promises and average food made this visit a disappointment. May the restaurant address these issues to ensure future guests don't leave with the same sense of dissatisfaction.
DIDN’T GET THE VIEW, GOT COLD SERVICE INSTEAD! NOT WORTH THE PRICE. We were really looking forward to our evening at The Marine Room. With its fine dining reputation and oceanfront view, we made a reservation and arrived with high expectations. We had specifically requested a window-side table to enjoy the view. While we understand that window tables may not always be available, what felt disappointing was that two window tables right next to us remained unoccupied and clean for 10–15 minutes. We politely asked our server if we could be moved, but no effort was made to accommodate our request or even acknowledge it. Eventually, those same tables were given to guests who arrived significantly later than we did. As a brown couple, we couldn’t help but wonder if we were being overlooked. We’d like to believe that wasn’t the case, but the lack of effort and engagement from the staff left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. The food itself was fine, but overpriced for the small portions — it felt like most of what we were paying for was the view, which we ultimately didn’t get to enjoy. To end the night, our server simply dropped off the check with no effort to ask how our experience was or whether we enjoyed the meal. The service felt cold and impersonal — not what we expected from a restaurant with such a high-end reputation.
The Infamous, The Marine Room . Where do I begin…..I read mostly good reviews on this establishment. The hostess, not great but tried. The bread guy amazing, the waitress nice. If you want a perfect view, this is your spot. The food 6/10, portions 3/10. This was a 400 dollar meal. YES I have paid less than this for better food and service. I have no problem paying a lot for good meal/ service but my god. This was not it. I was so excited about this and it was ruined when we walked in the door….
Just went back to the Marine Room recently, and quite frankly, the experience left nothing but a sour taste in my mouth. We made a reservation for 4:45 PM to watch the sunset and requested window seating, but we were seated in the back even though plenty of window tables were still available. We were a bit disappointed, but we didn’t want it to ruin our night. Then came our waitress, Marissa. When we mentioned that we had dined there many times before, she immediately—and quite rudely—told us she didn’t remember ever seeing us. We may not visit often enough to be considered regulars, but there was no need to embarrass us in front of the entire restaurant. The food was also disappointing this time. The scallops lacked texture and tasted boiled rather than seared. The $244, 28-day dry-aged tomahawk ribeye was the chewiest and driest steak I’ve ever had. I’ve had 45-day dry-aged steaks that were less dry, and regular steaks that were far more tender. Overall, there’s no reason for us to ever come back again.
Not quite the definition of a fine dining experience I had expected. Took my girlfriend here for her birthday and didn't even get as much as an acknowledgement even though I specified it on my reservation. Mileage may vary and could very well just have been the result of an inexperienced or seemingly grumpy server. All the tables around us got offered bread. We did not. Two other tables near us had birthdays and anniversaries and got free desserts with candles. We did not. Our empty water glasses were left empty the entire 2 hour dinner. Food was ok, but nothing to write home about, and pales compared to the price tag. Highly disappointing. Can get much better food and service elsewhere for that kind of money. Also doesn't help we went to Truluck's the night before which was phenomenal, had amazing food and amazing service. Go there instead.
If I could give the food 0 stars, I would. I’ve had better cafeteria food at my workplace than the dishes we were served for a prix fixe menu. The server was great, the dining room does have beautiful waterfront views but that’s where it stops. Every sauce was flat or mayo like without flavor. Everything was under seasoned. Even the focaccia was raw dough in the middle. My halibut was a dense dry block of frozen fish that was browned on one side. The filet mignon was ordered medium rare but was cold and raw in the middle which may have been OK if the meat had tasted like beef at all. It did not. We didn’t even stay for dessert which was included in the courses. The staff were again very nice but that’s not enough to justify a $400 meal for 2 that was worse than airplane food.
I booked this restaurant because the photos with the ocean view and waves were excellent… But the expectations and reality didn't match at all. It was our wedding anniversary, I booked a table a month ago, and we arrived exactly at 6:30 PM, but we had to wait 15 minutes with a hungry child in our arms while they prepared a table for us… We saw a couple of ready tables downstairs in the main hall, but for some reason they didn't give them to us. In the end, we got a table in some kind of room (like a basement), with only 2 chairs instead of 4, and it wasn't even properly set, even though we had waited so long!! It wasn't at all the table we expected. Yes, it was by the window, but it was dark on the beach, there was low tide, and the ocean wasn't beautiful at all. The waitress didn't even bring a menu or offer water. We waited another 10 minutes for the menu! And when we saw it with only a couple of items and prices starting from $60, we were completely disappointed! There was nothing to choose from. And we certainly didn't want to pay that kind of money for such service and view! So we just left. Thank you for ruining our evening…
I was very excited to try this place, however it didn’t meet my expectations when it came to hospitality and accommodation. Unfortunately, I feel that racism played a factor which was really disappointing in this day and age. When we were told our table was ready, the waitress didn’t call us by name and said “excuse me your table is ready”, but everyone else, she called by name. This set the stage and made us uncomfortable, and no one apologized for this. We requested a window seat for our table and were told we cannot get one because we were 15 minutes late. After talking to other guests, there were some that were also late and received a window table. The manager didn’t seem apologetic at all and honestly I’d rather spend my money elsewhere. There’s a reason the reviews are declining and there wasn’t a single person of color eating there. Do better marine room. Will not be returning!
