Super cute place the French toast and the chocolate Mexican coffee I got were the best!!!!! Loves this place for brunch
Recommended by a friend for a great breakfast while out of town. Service was friendly and prompt, ambiance was relaxed and lowkey. Food had reasonable portions, was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. Love that there were gluten free items clearly noted and plenty of them.
The food was excellent! It's your average brunch place (slightly higher in price) but the ingredients were great! The down side is that it gets crowded and had to wait an hour. But it was worth the wait. I had the La Jolla Benedict and it was 👍👍. The scone was great too! Probably will come back when I visit SD again!
This was our first time dining at The Cottage, and honestly, we wished we had come here much earlier than this visit. EVERYTHING we experienced when we dined here for breakfast to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary was over and above our expectations. The first thing we liked was when we checked in at the host podium in the patio, Jason (whom we later found out was the owner) took our name and told us it was a 15 minute wait, and to stick around as we'd be seated shortly. We didn't specify inside or outside since we wanted to be seated as soon as possible, but was delighted as the weather had just had light showers and unknown if we might catch a little precipitation. We told Jason we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and really took the time and spoke to us for a minute or two after seating us (mind you, The Cottage is a busy spot in La Jolla, and the short intentional conversation was much appreciated. We were served by Alonso and he took care of all our needs. We shared their fresh scone, Avocado Smash, both their Pork Belly Benedict and their Eggs La Jolla Benedict (they allow you to mix & match any of their six Eggs Benedict variations), coffee (both leaded and decaf). We never had a Watermelon Mimosa before but were hooked as soon as we tried it... Thanks Jason! PROS: delicious menu variety, Cafe Moto beans for their coffee, they leave a carafe of coffee at your table so you can top off your cup of coffee without flagging down the wait staff, they have "Ring of Fire" hot sauce (versus just Tabasco, Tapatio, & Cholula), their restrooms AND dining area both inside and on the patio were clean & tidy; their staff is very helpful, friendly, and attentive to all their patrons; the owner (Jason) is someone you'd instantly like and his likability rubs off on all his servers and busers. CONS: wish they had biscuits & gravy on their menu as a regular item but we might be the only one who feels that way. We can't wait to return and try more of their delicious offerings from their menu.
Everything about this place is divine. I was in town for a conference and ate here three times in the past four days. Service is quick. We were late getting to breakfast, and the amount of time it took to get our food was incredible. We made it to the conference on time. Great hot coffee. The hot cocoa is fabulous. Highly recommend!
We had brunch at the Cottage on 2/6/22 the eggs Benedict with salmon & prosciutto was delicious. La Jolla Benedict was good too. Portion sizes were large. My watermelon mimosa was just ok, looked better than it tasted. We placed our names on the list an hour ahead and went to check out the Warwick’s bookstore & Girard Gourmet for coffee & cookies. Street parking is limited on weekends.
I was headed back to the desert and stopped here for a late brunch. Iordered the Brioche French Toast and the Chicken Sausage Omelette. The food was superb-the scone alone is worth the trip! The French Toast was delectable as was the homemade jam served with it. Of course I also had to put some on that incredible scone; with butter! Highly recommend!
We had heard great things about the Cottage. We finally got over there for a late Wednesday morning breakfast. We weren’t disappointed. There was a 20 minute wait, and then we were seated inside. They have patio tables too, but it was very warm, and I think it was much cooler inside. I had the Italian sausage omelette. It was very good. It came with potatoes, which were excellent, and a scone, which was delicious with the jelly it was served with. My wife split her breakfast - half All American and half stuffed (with bananas and strawberries) French toast. Everything was excellent. I imagine a full serving of the French toast is more than the average customer can handle. I loved their pulpy orange juice. My wife had an ice coffee that was also very good. The staff was extremely cordial and friendly. Everyone just seemed happy to be working there. Especially our server Ariel. She was awesome. Parking can be a challenge. My advice? If you’re within 1/4 Mile and you see a spot, take it.
The food was very good, service was very good, and gluten-free friendly! We went for brunch on a Sunday, and checked in ahead of time because the wait was more than an hour. We were seated at the time promised, and the server was courteous and helpful. The Baja Chicken Hash was very flavorful and filling. The Southern California Omelet was also very good. All of this at a very good price, highly recommend!
What a great find. We sat outside (a little in the sun) but I would recommend that over siting inside as it seems they don't have AC inside. The weather was great when we came so no issuers. But now for the real question your here for: the food was egg-cellent! The egg sandwich was pretty much perfect and the salmon hash was very tasty. I also loved that they brought my own carafe for my coffee. Service was quick and friendly. We will definitely be back!
Came here for brunch on a Saturday and the service and food were both amazing. Everyone from the hosts to the wait staff, bussers, and food runners were so friendly and made it a great experience. Definitely recommend the Stuffed French Toast, Ahi Tuna Salad, and Tangerine Mimosa. Worth the wait, will be back! 😊
This place is a local breakfast favorite! Very good and generous California style dishes, sandwiches, and some very good healthy alternatives also. We recommended that you go there early, specially during the weekends and the busy visitor season because the wait can get long. One of our favorites is the Benedict with avocado, check them out and let us know what you think. Enjoy!
Excellent breakfast/brunch spot the food was amazing and the portion size was enough to share the staff was also amazing the owner I believe checked on every table that I could see and helped us figure out some plans while we’re visiting San Diego would recommend outside seating to enjoy the scenery. They even did a sweet valentines day treat for each table.
The Soy Chorizo is so good. The bowls for my hash were perfectly crispy and the potatoes, man, them potatoes were something outta this world. And the Scone was a perfect call by my girlfriend, it was perfectly crusted and crumbly yet crunchy and sweet. We will be back because that stuffed french toast looks absolutely insane and i have to try it.
We came in for late breakfast and they were very busy. It took less then 10 min to get a really nice table. The host and the whole team was friendly, helpful, great service. We enjoyed our breakfast with eggs Benedict, homemade lemon ricotta pancake. Espresso and latte are great too! We would love to come back.
Amazing breakfast. My bf and I weren't too hungry so we decided to share a plate and get a pastry and coffee. We mentioned we were sharing and the staff proactively split our dish into two servings. That's great service. The coffee was great, the tortillas were amazing and every component of the dish was super tasty. My bf really liked the beans. Friendly service, expect from the guy who received us at the entrance, but I noticed that's just his very straight forward persona lol Highly recommend!
My favorite place for muffins (Lemon Coconut Lavender or King Kong) and coffee. If its too crowded, I'll walk to a nearby bench overlooking the ocean and eat there. The meals are large and tasty too. I have been a patron for over 30 years and found the owner and staff to be friendly and efficient. Street parking can be tough and it’s easier to be seated inside than out. Kid-friendly (ask for the Wiki-Sticks). The recipes for many of the delicious items can be found in the Stern’s 2004 cook book entitled “Southern California Cooking from the Cottage: Casual Cuisine from Old La Jolla's Favorite Beachside Bungalow.”
Next level brunch. The owner was very nice. The server made us feel.at home. The tangerine juice was clearly fresh. The food was insanely good. Best Rueben I've ever had. Salivating just thinking about it. The French toast was awesome. Great flavors and not too sweet. The atmosphere was bright and happy. Loved it.
It was our first time here and we started off a little rocky; 30 mins after ordering our food it was discovered the order did not feed thru the computer to the kitchen :( Our server and the manager, Chris, both offered outstanding service and turned this snafu around; had complementary coffee cake delivered to our table while we waited for our order to process second time around. So now to the food. OUTSTANDING! We had the pork belly Benedict, lemon blueberry ricotta pancakes, and the stuffed French toast. I have a sweet tooth but typically don’t order sweet things for breakfast so when I couldn’t decide my server suggested I do half stuffed French toast & pancakes which was perfect so I had a good balance. A full serving would have been too sweet. The pancakes were fluffy, had a nice complimentary lemon flavor & not overpowering at all. The pork belly Benedict was on rosemary bread (no cheesy English muffin here) with sautéed spinach & garlic. Charming establishment, delicious food and definitely worth visiting.
This place was next level. I had been looking at coming here for a while, as it was one of the most acclaimed breakfast places in La Jolla. It lived up to every single level of my expectation. Like a lot of the local restaurants, I had a hard time choosing because they have such an awesome menu. I ended up going with the Salmon Hash and the Stuffed French Toast (as a side with the rest of my table). All of it was absolutely incredible and contained very high quality ingredients. Will be coming back for sure to try more of the menu items!
Got in line on Yelp first; highly recommend! I got the special and it was phenomenal. Beautiful atmosphere, fair prices, great portions, great food. Fresh and delicious. They even had free coffee set up for all of us waiting to be seated. Also the guy and the girl hosts up front were very kind and efficient at their job and handled all the craziness well👍🏼
We had a great breakfast here. I had bacon and eggs, over easy, that were cooked just right. It came with a scone that tasted great with my coffee. We also had a stuffed French toast that was filled with bacon, eggs and cheese. She loved it. We came during the week and were able to get outside seating right away. We were told on the weekends there is a long wait. We think it would be worth the wait.
I was visiting the general area with my two best friends and one had heard about the fabulous food at The Cottage, so we went for breakfast. The recommendation was spot on! The stuffed French toast was out of this world and be sure to try the candied bacon. All I can say is “wow!” The portions are HUGE so you’ll be eating it for leftovers, for sure. Aside from having amazing food, mimosa and a really nice atmosphere, the wait staff and the manager could not have between nicer! The Cottage is going to be an “every visit” stop from now on. It's a 10/10!
This breakfast was incredible. I chose the spot for my family on vacation the morning of and we were met with a fairly long line (30 minutes) so we took a little walk. When we came back out was even busier but our table was nearly ready. The breakfast was really memorable because the food was really good, offering both lunch and breakfast options with indoor and outdoor seating. Some photos are attached.
A good brunch in La Jolla. Busy on weekends and holiday mornings but are with many seats on weekdays.. Lots of friendly dogs and people gathering here. Fruit bowl, Benedict Eggs are good 👍 The Egg La Jolla is tasty with Benedict Eggs, Canadian bacon, spinach and some diced potatoes, which makes me really full. The French toast gave me such a surprise. Avoid Mexican coffee ☕ which seems to be too bitter for me to taste. The Cafe Au Lait is perfect with steamed milk on the coffee.
Came here for breakfast- stuffed french toast was amazing! Our server, Alonzo, was extremely personable and friendly. Excellent service, very fast!
Went for breakfast and the wait was for about an hour, but it was because it was raining and people wanted in doors. We asked if we could be sat on the front patio, they dried off a table and we were sat in 2 minutes. There are a lot of umbrellas covering the patio. We ordered watermelon and orange juice. They are freshly squeezed and very refreshing. Braised beef hash and the Cottage Sandwich. But the best one was the braised beef hash for sure! It had so much flavor!!!
Love the food here! Probably the best American breakfast I ever had. We ordered half order stuffed French toast, egg Benedict, and a salad. The French toast is my favorite, feels like having some premium cake. The mild sweat flavor in the salad was refreshing. The sauce and the crab meat made a great combination. Highly recommend.
The Cottage never disappoints! While you may have to wait in line to get in, it’s totally worth it. The service is great and the food is even better! My go-to’s are the Lemon Ricotta pancakes and the Eggs La Jolla Benedict. I highly recommend stopping by! Pictured is the Eggs La Jolla Benny & Stuffed French Toast
Amazing place. Came here for brunch during a friend's birthday weekend. Though there was a bit of a wait for our large party, they were able to accommodate us (though we had to split into two tables). Everything looked delicious, but I eventually decided on the soy chorizo hash (pictured below) and the lemon coconut lavender muffin. The presentation of the hash was nice, looking like a taco bowl, and it tasted great to boot with a sunny-side-up egg. We had also ordered baked brie, and everyone mistook the muffin for the brie and started sharing it. Once the brie came out soon after, the server realized what we were thinking and brought out another muffin free of charge (one for me since I had ordered it and one to share). They also brought out creme brulee and a cheesecake since we were celebrating a special occasion. Wonderful service, and I would definitely bring people here if I was visiting San Diego in the future.
I’ve been coming to The Cottage La Jolla for about 2 years now, and it never disappoints! The breakfast is always amazing — fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious. The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff are always friendly. Definitely one of my favorite spots in La Jolla!
If you are looking for a yummy brunch spot The Cottage (specifically in La Jolla) is the place to go. The service is great, and be prepared to have a little wait but the food and lattes are so worth it. Chilaquiles were packed with flavor and paired well with egg whites. It had the right amount of spice that I was looking for. For the table we ordered a sweet, the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. For lattes please be sure to try the Mexican Mocha. I cannot wait to go back.
The Cottage in La Jolla is a gem! The food was absolutely delicious—fresh and flavorful. I tried their famous lemon ricotta pancakes, and they were heavenly. The service was excellent, with the staff being so friendly and attentive. The outdoor seating was perfect, with a relaxed and charming atmosphere that made the whole experience even better. Whether you’re a local or visiting, this is a must-visit spot in La Jolla. Highly recommend!
Perfect spot for breakfast. Had Joe's special. Scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, veggies, potatoes on the side, and a killer scone served with a strawberry cinnamon jam. Sat outside, watched the world walk by, and was happy.
Went there 2 days in a row on my visit to SD. Love the owner (his name is Jason) and the coffee and orange juice were delicious. I loved the crab and prosciutto benedict and the fruit bowl which came with a strawberry yogurt and would recommend adding the house granola. The salmon hash was ok but a little too much food for me. Dog friendly and you can sit indoor or outdoors. Great service!
I’ve come here since since 2008. Visited again today after many years. Excellent. Great food. Healthy options and delicious.
This thoughroly made my tummy tingle. It was a perfect blend of rizzy food. It upped my aura like crazy. Im very grateful for the crazy aha servers who were very noice and kind. They were rizzlers. My primal food desires were filled and now I can successfully hibernate fir the rest of summer. Thank you for the scrumdiddlyumpcious meal. I hope Diddy never finds you and you live happily ever after.
I have been coming to The Cottage in La Jolla for 20 years and it is always amazing. This past weekend I was lucky enough to be able to hold my wedding dinner here. The food is incredible, staff is so friendly and the management is so organized and helpful. Jason and Una are truly a pleasure to work with. I was excited to hold my event here because it is such a sentimental place for my family, but I was truly blown away by how accommodating they were. I will always recommend The Cottage. Thank you!!
Believe the hype because The Cottage is everything you've heard it is - INCREDIBLE! We stopped here after kayaking during the week for a late brunch and were in such a rush to get there before they closed (our kayak tour took an hour longer than expected) because we had been looking forward to eating here all week! We apologized as we walked in knowing we were within 30 minutes of them closing, but the waitress that assisted us was so gracious, never once making us feel rushed. We started with the pretzel, having no idea it was a GIANT pretzel lol, but thankfully we were hungry from the calories we had just burned so we munched on the warm and yummy dough while we waited for our entrees. I ordered the Chilaquiles and my Husband ordered the Roasted Vegetable Omelet scrambled. Holy cow! Our dishes were incredible, even with coming towards closing time, the food was fresh, crisp and so tasty! We will absolutely come back as we were beyond impressed by the food and the service!
Stuffed French toast and the Benny were amazing. The breakfast sandwich was good. Place is always packed but use the wait-list to make it an easy brunch adventure. This place is a staple breakfast and brunch joint in SD. Good mimosas here. Excellent service. Everyone should try sitting on the patio once. I prefer the inside as it doesn't feel as crowded.
Sooo yummy for a birthday breakfast. Sat down right away on a Tuesday morning. Espresso bar was delicious, juices were fresh. We recommend the stuffed French toast, the smoked salmon hash and the Benedicts. Large portions. We had lots of leftovers! they also gave me a slice of cake for my birthday and sang. So lovely. Manager was very nice.
The best breakfast you can find in La Jolla! All the items on the menu are delicious and you will like it! Make sure to try their Benedicts, wild mushroom omelette, and French toast! The best French toast I have ever had. Their Mexican hot chocolate is great! Not too sweet! If you are with a large party make sure to get there early, otherwise you may end up waiting for more than an hour. The service is great and they have a friendly team!
Within just two blocks of walk from Prospect Street in the upscale neighborhood of La Jolla, The Cottage restaurant is a local gem that promises a delightful culinary journey through classic American and Southern California cuisine. With a string of foodie awards under its belt, including accolades from ZAGAT, Epicurious, and San Diego’s Luxury Lifestyle Magazine, it's clear that The Cottage has earned its reputation as a dining destination worth exploring. During our visit, we indulged in some of their signature dishes, each living up to its award-winning status. The Stuffed French Toast was a standout, featuring perfectly preserved strawberries and luscious mascarpone, all served with ample butter and syrup. The freshness of the strawberries elevated the dish to new heights, leaving us craving more with each bite. For those craving a savory option, the Crabcakes Egg Benedict did not disappoint. We opted to add pork belly to the already enticing combination, resulting in a heavenly marriage of flavors. The crab was impeccably prepared, complemented by the rich hollandaise sauce and a hint of heat from the provided hot sauce. Accompanied by perfectly seasoned breakfast potatoes, every element of the dish was executed flawlessly. Aside from the exceptional food, our experience at The Cottage was further enhanced by the efficient use of technology. Utilizing the Nowait app allowed us to join the waitlist remotely, minimizing our time spent waiting for a table upon arrival. The accuracy of the app's wait time estimation ensured a stress-free dining experience, even during peak hours. To top it all off, the Mexican hot chocolate was a decadent treat that served as the perfect conclusion to our meal. Rich, creamy, and indulgent, it encapsulated the essence of comfort in every sip. In summary, The Cottage in La Jolla is more than just a restaurant; it's a culinary institution that delivers on its promise of award-winning cuisine and exceptional service. Whether you're craving a leisurely brunch or a satisfying lunch, The Cottage is sure to leave a lasting impression on your taste buds and your dining experience as a whole.
Located very conveniently near popular Prospect Ave and walking distance from the ocean. Parking can be challenging. Food was delicious! Vegetarian friendly. The waiter helped accommodate vegetarian diet. My favorite picks were the mushroom ravioli and the lemon ricotta pancakes. My brother loved the chilaquiles.
Amazing breakfast stop! I love the variety of drink options. Smoothies, juices, coffee, signature mimosas, etc.! We sat on the patio and received excellent service. We had the Lavender Mimosa, Brioche French Toast and Chilaquiles. Unfortunately, the bathroom was not as clean and I was expecting. If you’re in the area, definitely check it out.
The food was incredible and the service to match. We took a trip over to La Jolla, and Googled some places to eat, the Cottage was highly recommended and it absolutely delivered. We ended up going there every day during our visit! Ask for Chris (manager, tell him you saw this review 😉)
I was at La Jolla Rec Center in the morning for the dog Halloween event. And I was so hungry after and seeking for a nice lunch spot. I found here! I got a nice seat for myself and I ordered a baked Brie, it’s very delicious! I definitely love the combination of Brie cheese with some pickled tomatoes, Spinach and mushrooms. The potion is nice as well. It’s perfect for one person. The service here is awesome too. Only thing I want to complain is the bathroom, their water tap is very difficult to sense your hands to get the water down…
I usually wait until I get home to write reviews, but wow!!! This couldn’t wait. The food at The Cottage is absolutely delicious and full of flavor. They even served a warm scone with fresh jelly, which was such a nice surprise. Simple, comforting, and truly memorable. Definitely coming back.
One of our favorite spots in the area and close to the beach. There’s almost always a wait, so plan accordingly. The service was excellent and attentive. We had to try the lemon ricotta pancakes, and they were incredibly fluffy, perfectly balanced, and absolutely delicious. Pro tip: add blueberries, they take it to the next level. We ordered the freshly squeezed orange juice, which was refreshing and surprisingly flavorful and a mimosa which was equally good. The veggie omelet was fresh, and flavorful. The only downside was that the bathrooms weren’t very well maintained.
Took my visting Mother and we had a really good overall experience. Only real gripe, which was out of their control, was the weather. It was extremely windy and the umbrellas needed to be taken down, which they did promptly, and the staff did an excellent job on still providing great customer service. Food was good and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend and will be back.
A perfect spot for brunch. The food was very tasty and well prepared, and the coffee was equally enjoyable. The seating arrangement was comfortable and pleasant, making it a great place to relax and enjoy the meal. Overall, it was a wonderful experience with great food, nice ambience, and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely a five-star experience and a place I would happily visit again.
I came to visit from the mid-west and let me just say this place was by far the highlight of my trip. My food was absolutely delicious! I have a dairy allergy and the crew was so amazing with working around it, they even made it possible for me to have french toast dairy free. The waitress was so kind and informative! Definitely a place that will make you smile, enjoy a good meal, and be happy you came!
Really great spot for brunch. We had a seat inside and as soon as you walk inside you are instantly smacked with a sugar high from all the beautiful sweets and baked goodies. Staff is have attentive to everyone including each other. Even if you don’t have brunch here would recommend stopping in to get some tasty and fun desserts or baked goods.
We recently hosted our daughter’s wedding reception at The Cottage and it was nothing short of spectacular. We had the entire restaurant to ourselves (40 guests) for under $5000 -that is hard to find in La Jolla. They created a wonderful food & drink menu for our guests that included appetizers, entrees, beer, wine and 2 specialty cocktails. The food was phenomenal—fresh, beautifully presented, and raved about by all our guests. The atmosphere was warm and elegant and the service throughout the evening was flawless. The tables were decorated beautifully, the layout was perfect -we even had a space to dance! From the moment we started planning, the staff was attentive, professional, and genuinely invested in making the day special. We are so grateful for Una, Jason and entire staff for helping us create such a magical and memorable evening. It was everything we hoped for and more.
Staff were very friendly and very helpful. Had 3 different people help me out if I needed anything. Smiles all around and attentive to everyone! Una was especially friendly and helpful. The food is amazing here. I highly recommend the Crab Melt with salad. Perfect amount of food to fill you up, and absolutely delicious. The coffee cake is a nice add and super good. Recommend to split between a small group. Sitting outside on a beautiful day is great. They do have some heaters if you do get cold to, and umbrellas to block out the sun.
This place was highly recommended to me, and it didn’t disappoint. The cinnamon swirl pancakes, which were a must-try, were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a sweet treat. I also tried the Morning Glory sandwich, which was recommended by the staff and was quite high on the menu. The service was great, and the hot sauce they gave us was incredibly spicy and flavorful. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area.

Sooo Yummy!!!! The eggs were so fluffy and cooked to perfection. They have plenty of gluten free options, including the best gluten free pancake ever. Best breakfast in San Diego, hands down!

The Cottage never disappoints. Great breakfast! French toast with bacon, omelette, juice coffee all excellent. Timely, friendly service. Nice atmosphere.
Excellent breakfast and great choices. The scones are fabulous and the service great. It is a nice and quaint place to sit outside. We are there several times during our stay.
This was a cute brunch spot that our family randomly found online. We were sat immediately outside under their huge umbrellas and requested a high chair for one of the kids. Staff was very friendly and accommodating to any of our needs especially when we needed more shade or kid menus. I thought the French toast was delicious. I did order the all American breakfast which isn’t pictured and a side of French toast. Tbh this felt like a normal side of French toast but I don’t remember what the receipt said. Regardless, their portions are very filling and pretty good breakfast food. My cousin got the cinnamon swirl pancakes and said they were delicious and filling. It was more sweet than he wanted but he usually doesn’t like sweets. Next time I am in town, I would definitely come back and recommend others to stop by. Def make this a spot to eat at!
Found this place while staying at La Jolla for a short trip. Located around a residential area and walking distance to the seaside. The best dish was the French toast, the rest are just like any other breakfast/brunch cafe. The cafe can be pretty pricey, all of these for $72. You can be the judge if it is worth it to try.
Great breakfast and lunch place I've gone to over 25 years. Great food and a relaxed atmosphere but this time I got the worst service ever. A dog with a wagon tied to his tail would have been better but I will go back
Came here to visit my niece in San Diego when she was studying her last year of college, so wanted to visit her while she was in this lovely and beautiful city! We stopped to have some breakfast at this place and it was really quite good place was quite clean and just really cute to come and sit and have a really really nice breakfast! We both ordered some and we quite enjoyed it! Highly recommend this place if you are in the La Jolla area of San Diego enjoy! Crab patty panini was delicious and the portion size was big. The fries were extra crunchy. The picante sauces they provide work great as dipping sauces. The eggs Benedict were not so great - hollandaise sauce was flavorless and bread was very tough. Definitely recommend the sandwiches!
The stuffed french toast was EXCELLENT, easily the best french toast I ever had. I sat inside which was a nice break from the sun but the seating outside is preferred. I also got the pork belly Benedict which in mg opinion wasn't good, I would give that meal a 1 star out of 5. I would come back for the French toast alone.
The head manager of this restaurant is so kind and welcoming. Thank you for being awesome, we keep coming back because of you. Love the fresh squeezed juices and smoothies, coffee is always on point too. For some reason, every time we ask the food runner for something, they always forget but it's okay because they have good bottled hot sauces so make sure to get those and don't forget to season your own eggs and potatoes 'cause the kitchen goes light on the salt and pepper. I like that the food isn't greasy and I feel good when I leave.
Food was good, and service was good in terms of attentiveness of the server, but food took forever and we only ordered three simple items. I think that may be a kitchen problem. We ordered sparkling wine and it was neither cold or bubbly; we sent this back with no issues. No reservations but seating was fast, even on a Saturday at 1pm. They have tables indoors and outdoors. Overall, worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood, but I would not make a special trip, and skip the drinks. Dinging half a star bc the sparkling wine was warm and flat, and food took forever. The food was good though, so that redeemed a star.
Nice little brunch spot. We dropped in Friday morning and it wasn’t busy at first but the place filled up quickly. Service was great and the food was very good but could use a little more seasoning. I had the house Benny which looked great and tasted fine but was just a little bland but still very good.
I came here on a weekly day thus it wasn’t too busy when we arrived. We got seated right away (it got busy later on). We sat on the patio. There were seats inside. It’s a casual place. We had mimosa. It had more oj taste, could use a bit more champagne. There are many sweet and savory items to choose from. I couldn’t decide between crab cake or pork belly Benedict so the waiter was able to do half and half for me. The crab cake and prosciutto Benedict was a bit salty for my taste. The pork belly was really good. I also liked cottage potato. They were well seasoned. We also ordered an antojito Benedict. It’s also very flavorful. The service was good. The waiter came by to check on us a few times. The price was on the higher end but it’s expected for the area. Overall, it’s a nice place for brunch.
Great atmosphere and service and the food was almost excellent, I had chilequiles that were perfect except the scrambled egg was terrible and overcooked like a slab. The chips were crunchy and fresh however, and I was able to add brisket which was wonderful. The hot sauce was also delicious and spicy and the buttermilk biscuit was heaven. The smoothie was delicious. Great cappuccino also, the atmosphere was cozy and they treat guests like family. Definitely worth visiting but be careful with the eggs!
Great atmosphere and service. It was not crowded on a Tuesday and seated promptly. The atmosphere was good! Seated under the shade. The food was average, but the different menu options were good. The spiced lavender mocha was super tasty! Unfortunately, they had a disappointing stuffed French toast. From prior google reviews, they had a lot more fruit. The toast was still tasty, but I was hoping for more of a stuffed feel than a few pieces of strawberry. It looks like the quality changes day to day so be aware. The pork belly eggs Benedict was pretty good, pork was a bit dry. Overall a pretty good experience with friendly staff.

Terrible food. Ok service. Very pricey, I don't get the hype! \nAverage pancakes eggs don't taste real but from bags.
Great service, yummy breakfast and nice ambiance! \n\nA nice man who greeted us and sat us, really set the energy, glad we came

The atmosphere was pleasant and cheerful, wait staff was pleasant, and I received my order quickly. I ordered the California omelet and the Cottage Club. The food was a little "goopy" for my taste.
Lemon ricotta pancakes are great! \nUnfortunately they don't have a mix plate as mistura, so at the end I couldn't finish the pancakes but I needed to order a salty side

I can't believe this is the #2 restaurant in La Jolla?! I had my worst meal of my trip here. Inedible asparagus in my veggie omlette, plus it was missing items. Bad service. Flies all over the plac…

Male host was not nice Food and wait staff were very good. Had to wait quite awhile to be seated. Long wait to use the restroom.

Look - I LOVE breakfast, brunch, brinner. Pancakes can be served ANYTIME. What I mean to say is I have been to a large number of places for breakfast. This place reminded me of an elevated (insert generic diner name). There are pros, the service was fabulous, you can mix up your Benedicts (I got the crab and veggie). Cons - potato’s were under seasoned and a few bites were cold, I didn’t bother finishing those. Crab Benedict def had a seafood smell which I did not love. There is the smell of fresh seafood and there is the smell of canned or previously frozen seafood. This was the latter of said smells. Veggie Benedict was great! The balsamic paired well with the hollandaise. They shouldn’t have bothered with the watermelon quarter, it was mushy and ready to be compost not my breakfast. Coffee was decent, a dark and smooth roast. I almost got a cinnamon roll but I think I was forgotten about in that part of my order. So, instead of reminding or asking someone else I just paid and left to begin my day. Food was a 3 star at best, the service was 5/5. Waitress was so accommodating and checked in often but not too much. I wouldn’t go back unless someone insisted we go.
Honestly wanted to rate it higher. I Think this might be a breakfast place. My dinner was nothing to write home about at all. After I finished I waited what felt like 20 minutes for my server to bring a bill. Finally had to track her down and ask to close out. Wasn’t even busy. This ruined the experience for me. Update: Came back for breakfast as this was highly rated as a breakfast place, overall it was better than my dinner, but still not over impressed.
Hmm, probably there is too much hype for typical brunch food. Don’t get me wrong, the food was good but it wasn’t the wow I was expecting before I dined in. This was just a typical brunch experience for me. No dishes wowed me. Wait was about an hour on Sunday at 1:30PM. Parking was enough, many stalls with 1hr or 2hr. Reason for 2 stars: My wife ordered Stuffed French Toast. She is allergic to strawberries, which is included in the french toast and when she asked the waitress about it, the waitress said that they’ll substitute strawberries with bananas. However, when I got the check, it had $1.75 additional fee for taking OUT the strawberries and ANOTHER $1.75 additional fee for bananas. If the waitress had said that they were going to charge us more for my wife’s allergy, we wouldn’t have ordered stuffed french toast. This was extremely frustrating and it really was a negative experience to see that this restaurant doesn’t care for the customers’ allergies and then proceed charge additional fees for them without letting the customers know. There were also flies inside the restaurant and we had to swat them away every now and then from our food. There was a long wait for the restroom, and people constantly lined up inside the restaurant for them. I felt bad for the people who were seated near restroom. Overall, this was not pleasant experience.

If I can give them a zero I would but I can’t so I’ll give them a 1. My sister and I came to this place with high hopes from Arizona. When we got there no one paid any attention to us. We were passed by several times by the employees without any recognition. We were in comfy clothes and we are also Hispanic so I’m not sure if they took us serious. But that doesn’t matter, I’m very well off and could afford to be anywhere. We were finally sat down. And then they forgot about us we waited another 20 minutes and no one came. We were given water. Shout out to the young gentleman. We saw them take care everyone but us so we left to the next door to place called Blue Whale. 10/10 service there.
Do not make the mistake of ordering any of the juices or smoothies. The way the Ruby Root juice is described makes it sound like it’s made at the cafe, right? Wrong! they literally pour out an Evolve juice (same name Ruby Root) into a cup and hand it to you. They even copied the name! I can’t believe I paid $12 for the exact juice I can get at the super market for $5!!
Extremely disappointed, me and my bf always come to San Diego to visit every couple months and we always come down to La Jolla to try new places to grab a bite. Today 12/11 we decided to try the cottage since we seem it has pretty good reviews. We got seated around 11:50 or so and waited for at least 30 mins. There was two ladies ahead of us that got seated first then right after we did yet the two ladies got there order taken seemed like drinks first . We eventually decided to wait to see maybe someone will come but no…. We decided to leave around 12:20 is when we walked out. This place needs to do better with communication if they were to busy they could have at least told us there will be a wait we would have appreciated it but we felt very much ignored.
I ordered the crab benedict. The eggs were bland and the cottage potatoes were too salty. My husband had the buttermilk pancakes that were just ok. The orange juice was the best thing that we had. For $54 (for just 2 people) it should have been a much better dining experience. Won't be returning. Very disappointed.
