Oh my goodness- the food at this coffee house is so good. We ordered the “Signature Breakfast Sandwich” , the 2 Scone w/ flight of 6 Butter Sampler and a Vanilla Latte. The total bill came to $31 (not bad for the quality of food and drink). The breakfast sandwich was flavorful (bacon, egg, cheese and sauce). The bread was toasted to perfection and the house chipotle aioli sauce added an excellent touch. The butter for the scones were out of this world delicious; scones were baked perfectly. A+ is the score I’d give to this establishment.
This is one of my favorite spots in the La Mesa area. The staff is always warm and welcoming, and the entire café has such a cozy, inviting vibe. It’s also very kid-friendly and a great place to read or study, with dedicated stools and seating designed for that purpose. I really appreciate their no-WiFi table concept, which encourages community, conversation, and being present rather than glued to a screen. One thing to keep in mind is parking, it’s mostly paid street parking and can fill up quickly, especially on weekends. That said, it’s still worth the effort. Their scones always look incredible, though this time I kept it simple with a latte, and it was absolutely delicious. I love the cute little “thank you” card they give out!
Their gluten free scones and butter selection are the best I’ve ever had. Friends who have gotten the non gluten free one say it’s pretty similar and actually liked the gluten free one better! Love the coffee art and the little spark of joy notes too.
This spot is vibey and has surprisingly good food! We've been here several times and the menu is relatively small so we've tried and enjoyed just about everything on it. The staff is kind and relaxed and seem to really be enjoying themselves! This is a fantastic place to hang out and sip your coffee slowly.
A friend recommended I try the scones here, and I'm glad I did!! While my Americano was perfect, the warm scone with their cinnamon butter was indescribably delicious! A super chill vibe made this an experience I will gladly return for!
Just moved to the area and addicted to this place. Staff is all super friendly and remember your name , and the outdoor seating is perfect for people watching or just chilling… Coffee is good too!
Let me start by saying that the food and coffee is amazing. The lattes are made with pride and the food is unique and delicious. This place is busy for a reason. Its a smaller place for the amount of business they have. That is not a bad thing, it just means that you have to patient. The Uber butter and the scones are my favorite. 10/10 for creativity and deliciousness.
They are so sweet here. The coffee is so good and the shop is clean and cute. Any recommendations they got you, any food allergies they got you (pertaining to the coffee at least, there are some for the food but not all). If you don’t like something they will remake your coffee free of charge. Great people, great coffee and great environment! Thank you public square
What a wonderful place in a lovely spot! Downtown La Mesa is a pleasant, quieter setting, and it’s a joy to sit outside in a place with less hubbub and traffic. The staff was super-friendly and helpful, cappuccino was impeccable and my breakfast sandwich (with added arugula and chili oil - recommended by the cashier) was to die for 😘. Inside the shop is lovely too. Just beware that in the middle of the shop where there is a comfy couch and chairs, they are on a slightly raised platform (like 3”), which is kinda easy to trip over if you are not paying attention.
Okay so for 3 years I have been wanting to keep this a hidden gem because it gets quite packed on the weekends 😵💫🥴 but Public Square exceeds my expectations EVERY time! The menu is quite extensive. I’ve only visited for breakfast and my go to is the vanilla latte and the scone with cinnamon butter. Every time I bite into the scone I wanna go in the kitchen and hug the chef. It’s 😘EVERY TIME! The perfection in the taste and presentation gets me every time! I believe they do open mics but I haven’t gotten a chance to attend.
Public Square was hands-down the highlight of my trip! The live band had everyone on their feet, the energy was contagious, and brunch was just as amazing, fresh, flavorful, and served with the kind of warmth that makes you want to stay all day. I left already planning my next visit! 10/10
Phenomenal. This is truly a hidden gem given that it's a bit east of downtown San Diego. Not far but definitely not in my area. Anyhow, well worth the drive. I will be making the drive out there very often. The spot is super cozy, offers a variety of seating options from a large couch with equally large coffee tables to wall facing bar top stool seating, regular 4 person table seating and outdoor seating. The pizza was delicious and the Cesar salad was special considering it had tomatoes in it. I'm a Cesar salad enthusiast and I liked the different taste with the tomato. I will be back many times. I did some thrifting next door to this coffee shop. Oh yeah, they offer tomato soup but it's before 4pm. Came for the tomato soup, stayed for the pizza.
This is one of our favorite spots in all of San Diego. Their coffee is great, the food is awesome, and everyone is super nice. Highly recommend the biscuits and gravy, the breakfast sandwich, and the Carnnitas sandwich. The scones and house made butters are incredible! Great coffee house atmosphere and music.

It's our first time here at public Square. We are each having a sandwich and tea and it is really very good.\nThey serve breakfast all day
I’ve been hitting up all the trendy spots lately with my son, and Public Square in La Mesa is definitely a winner. This place is super hip and attracts a young, lively crowd. We went on a Saturday morning and it was packed, it seems like everyone had the same idea to grab coffee and scones here! Here is what we ordered: • The Scone: This was amazing. It has that perfect texture, crusty on the outside but incredibly soft and moist on the inside. Pro tip: You have to try it with their honey butter. It is so good. • Avocado Toast: Another hit. It comes on crunchy toasted sourdough with fresh arugula on top. Simple and delicious. • Hot Chocolate: Heavenly! It was creamy and rich, exactly the way we like it. • Matcha: This was on another level. Very cool and rich in flavor. Even though it was busy, the service was super efficient. You just order at the counter first and they deliver the food right to your table. Highly recommend if you are looking for a great brunch spot in the area!
The scones! Get the scones! Went here on a Saturday and Sunday bc I had to get more scones. Well the butters are really what makes the scones but still get the scones! Both days were busy but food service was fast. Drinks are delicious and vibes are on point. With all these it makes for a super busy place but staff have always been kind and helpful. Great local spot with chill vibes and yummy food! I just hate that it’s always busy

CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE!!!!! I’m so over spending money eating out when the order can’t even be made right. When I first started coming here, this sandwich was $9.95. Now it’s $13.95 because it’s supposedly “new and improved” with more egg, thicker bacon, and other upgrades. Today I decided to splurge and add basil oil ($1.95) and arugula, which brought the total to nearly $16. I did appreciate that they actually followed through on my request for lightly toasted bread (since sometimes it’s so crispy it hurts my gums). But just because I made that personal adjustment doesn’t mean the egg should’ve been forgotten. The whole point of the “new and improved” version is the egg — and it wasn’t even on my sandwich. So now I’m at home making my own egg to put on it. Honestly, what’s the point of raising prices if the basics aren’t even right? I usually enjoy coming here, but this kind of experience makes it really hard to justify returning. Updated For response: I’d usually come in for things like this to get it rectified, but unfortunately I had to head straight to work, so I had to make do this time. I appreciate you reaching out and offering to make it right, thank you for that.
I tried to give Public Square a chance to make things right privately, but they made it clear they super did not care so here we go. \n\nLast month, I went there to grab food to go before work. I o…

Sucks. Coffee is bitter and disgusting. Service is slow and rude. They need to widen their variety and improve overall attitude towards customers
