My son turned 6 while we were on vacation and a family member bought him a donut cake to celebrate, which was a new (and delightful) to us experience. A week later back home, we hosted a birthday party for him and his friends and also wanted to celebrate with a donut cake. We love Johnny's Donuts and contacted Kim to ask if they were able to do this special order which she was excited to do in spite of the fact that they had never made one before and was willing to try it out. Apparently you need special machinery to make them but we appreciated that they took on the challenge and freehanded the design!! Kim called the day before the scheduled pickup to confirm. Upon pickup, they even gifted the bday boy with his own donut and was just a delight to work with. We are loyal fans, and will be ordering donut cakes again in the future!!

Behold—the perfect apple fritter. I never used to like apple fritters. My mama always said that if you don’t like a food, it’s probably because you haven’t had it prepared the right way. And boy, was she right—especially when it comes to these apple fritters. Normally, apple fritters are doughy, overcooked, dry, and suspiciously void of apples, let alone apple flavor. But that couldn’t be further from the truth here. Just look at these beauties: the crispy golden-brown exterior, the ideal thickness, the perfect size—pure perfection. The flavor? Out of this world. These fritters are bursting with apple goodness. The first bite greets you with a satisfying crunch, softening as you work your way toward the center. All along this delicious journey, your palate is treated to a harmonious blend of apple and cinnamon, elevated by the perfect amount of REAL apple pieces. If you’re anywhere near the East Bay, you owe it to yourself to stop by the best doughnut shop around. Johnny’s is a Lafayette institution, crafting doughnut perfection for generations. I can’t recommend it enough!

I ordered off two good to go and the workers were extremely friendly and for just 5 bucks we got two full bags of donuts (around 10 donuts and plenty of donut holes). The inside is really cute as well. Will definitely be back!

When a donut shop has a line out the door, you know it's good! Drove out of my way to get donuts from here and it was totally worth it. Only bad thing- cash only, but CVS is right next door for a cash back purchase.

I used to come to Johnny's when I was still in high school. It was a mainstay of my young adult life. I came back today while in town to visit family and got an ube (Japanese yam) glazed donut. The folks behind the counter threw in some extra donut holes. So nice! So tasty! A mainstay of Lafayette! Keep up the good work!

Great donuts and great people. They have a pretty unique maple flavor compared to most places (been to over 50 donuts spots from all around the Bay). It has a roasted, buttery flavor that isn’t overly sweet and makes you crave another one. They also usually have donut holes on deck for those who like their holes and sometimes cronut holes available.

The staff are super nice. The are always so kind and friendly to my kids. The doughnuts are excellent, best doughnut spot around

Welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. I grabbed a quick coffee and donut to-go while on a morning walk with my dog and the staff added a donut hole to the bag that I found as a little surprise for her when I sat down on a nearby park bench to enjoy the snack. Great donut and great coffee from friendly staff. Five stars!

I'm so glad I finally tried Johnny's Donuts, which is now my new favorite donut shop in Contra Costa County! I went in around 10am on a Thursday with two people ahead of me in line. There was a good selection of donuts with everything I was hoping for, plus a surprise of seeing they had Ube donuts (5/5)! I LOVE Ube so I had to get one. All the donuts were fresh. I also bought a chocolate glazed (5/5), vegan chocolate sprinkles (5/5), and gave my parter a maple bar, which he enjoyed. The owner was so nice and even gave me three free donut holes with my order. I needed to make the $10 minimum to use my credit card so I also got a Vietnamese coffee (4/5), which was strong and tasty. I sat at one of their booths to enjoy my coffee and Ube donut, and enjoyed the old school, nostalgic atmosphere. I look forward to coming back to try more of their donuts!
