My happy place that I slip just down my road to, when I'm too lazy to make my own breakfast! A mix of friendly wait staff and awesome breakfast choices, makes the East Shore Roadhouse a place where you want to bring some of your closest friends, for good comfort food! I don't know too many places in Ithaca that serves biscuits and gravy like the Road House does! Simply delicious. ~ Jack

If you're looking for a breakfast or lunch place, this is it. Serving mostly locally sourced ingredients. I don't like breakfast food, but they have options for breakfast, which is great for a person that doesn't like breakfast food. They also have vegan and gluten-free options. If you're enjoy hot sauce, they have a lot of different types. Which I really love.

We stopped by for brunch on a sunny Sunday on the advice of our neighbors, and had such a blast we’d probably move in if they took boarders! The home fries, pancakes, and french toast passed the toddler test with flying colors, and we parents loved the infinite-feeling filling options for the omelette. What isn’t made in house is thoughtfully sourced—copper horse coffee, wide awake bread, well you get the idea. But the real key for us was how parent-minded the place was: clean booster seats, board-books available in a nearby corner, cute sippy cups, and lightning fast service. For us not a question of when we’ll be back, but probably more whether it’ll be weekly or bi-weekly.

Fantastic place to go for great food and service. Went to breakfast with family for my wife’s birthday and it was great. Becky was very accommodating with our large group of 14. Service was great and well organized, food was hot and very delicious. I would highly recommend the Road House to anyone looking for great food, atmosphere and friendly service. Thanks again Becky!! First time trying this place for breakfast. Friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. My husband and I ordered French toast, bacon and scrambled eggs, omelet and hashbrowns with a coffee and cranberry juice. I am very picky about French toast being too mushy, but this was one perfect. My husband enjoyed his omelet as well. Would definitely recommend for breakfast! Can't wait to try for lunch.😊

Excellent service and the atmosphere is great too. As an establishment that uses fully local ingredients, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to dine here! Definitely a place to bring family and friends over.

The food is AMAZING. Had a Cubano and it was the best one I've had. The bread had some buttery toasted goodness with the top flipped and coated with cheese. The pork loin and the ham were thick and juicy. The sauce was killer, something sweet n tangy that paired great with the mustard. I highly recommend you stop at East Shore Roadhouse

Thoroughly enjoyed lunch with friends today. Being a Friday we opted for the fish special with the option of fried haddock sandwich with fries, or fried haddock dinner with choice of two sides. The fish/sandwich was huge with a tasty light batter that wasn’t greasy, fries and onions were plentiful. Their mission here is very clear: Serve good food at a reasonable price in at atmosphere that is clean, warm and inviting. We will definitely be back and spread the word. Cheers to a great meal!

We are visiting the area from out of state. Googled places to eat breakfast and East Shore Roadhouse came up to try. We will definitely return. We visit this area annually and had never been. Wish we knew about it sooner. Even the coffee was delicious. Service was friendly and welcoming.Food was unbelievably good.

B

The best breakfast in the area and it's not even close. They use local whenever possible and keep a chalkboard up of the local sources. I can't call it a diner because it's so much more. After the first time I had an omelet here I knew where I was having breakfast again. Huge fluffy omelets with so many add-ins to pick from. Local breads, fantastic french toast and perfect pancakes. Coffee is also local and excellent. Great options for lunch as well. They also have a nice tap selection of microbrews from the general area. Can't wait to go back each time. I've never had a bad meal here. As a warning, It can fill up fast as it's relatively small.

M

This place is such a gem. The food is phenomenal, and everything seems to be made from scratch. The atmosphere feels so comfortable, and it's certainly kid-friendly! I have never in my life had breakfast food this incredible at any other restaurant. I highly recommend this diner! <3

J

Absolutely fantastic food at great prices. I’ve never had anything off the menu that I didn’t like. They are striking a unique balance between sophisticated farm-to-table food at diner prices and classic Americana staples that scratch all the itches while still using local ingredients. Every detail of their food, down to excellent local hot sauce and freshly ground pepper and sock salt on the tables, is thoughtful without any degree of snobbery. The space is casual and comfortable and has the feeling of a place you want to become your “spot.”

C

Absolutely lovely staff and delicious food. The moment I walked into the establishment I felt like I was inside someone’s home. I highly recommend ordering the usual and the sourdough bread with the blackberry jelly. Everything is locally sourced and the food is fresh!

Every time I’m in a Lansing I try and stop in to the East Shore Roadhouse. I’ve been trying something different each time as I work my way thru the menu. I find myself wanting to order everything I’ve already tried- why get something else if I’ve found things I like and want to eat again? Well, because everything I’ve had is so good. Places like this are hard to come by and the ownership works hard and are good people. Worth the drive for sure. Keep doing what you do, it’s working!

Becky and Brian's place, The Eastshore Roadhouse is a perfect example of what breakfast food is supposed to be. . . Local farmed agriculture and produce, and what I prefer in a restaurant (a warm comfortable environment and local entrepreneurship). The pulled pork burrito was delicious, the pancake fluffy with real maple syrup and the sausage gravy over the hashbrowns was awesome. I will definitely support this local, to Ithaca, establishment next time I'm around.

D

I was in the area for the day, and decided to have breakfast based on other’s reviews. The excellent reviews were spot on and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Becky was very welcoming and extremely helpful in helping me decide what to put in my custom made omelette. They specialize in using locally sourced meats, vegetables and cheeses, including locally produced goat cheese. Thank goodness I decided to go with the small omelette, because that and the excellent home fries was more than satisfying. It’s definitely a place I highly recommend and will not hesitate to return when I’m in the area.

This is a privately owned small business. They strongly support local businesses for their products. The food served is exceptional with dishes you might not expect. This is not a fast food restaurant. The food is prepared when ordered so you may have to wait. All diners are served in order. We've been to this charming little place several times. Highly recommend. BTW: you will see many loyal locals there. Give it a try.

K

Excellent visit and will definitely be back. The space is welcoming and the owners have done a very nice job with renovating from the previous business. It is light colored and a rustic vibe which is cozy and airy. The breakfast menu felt very diner like with a high quality flair for those we are looking for something a little more upscale. Food was fantastic, great local items included and advertised as well as local beers on tap. We loved everything we ate. Service was friendly and quick and the prices were excellent. We were a group of 3 adults who each had a meal, plus one side of delicious Wide Awake Bakery Bread and jam, 3 coffees total, 2 local craft beers total, and a mimosa and the bill came out to $56 before tip! The food is clearly homemade and done with care. Highly reccomend stopping in and getting a meal. Side note: they use very lightly processed, unbleached flour to make their biscuits and pancakes which is healthier and easier to digest for people that deal with the issues of American Gluten products. They also had oat milk available for a non-dairy option if people need it. All in all, 5 star, can't wait to go back!

East Shore Roadhouse is a cozy, refreshed spot for breakfast and lunch—bright, welcoming, and a little more polished than your typical roadside café. It’s got a relaxed, friendly vibe and feels like a local favorite without being too “diner-y.” We stopped in for breakfast and loved it. I had the breakfast sandwich, which was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying, and he had the omelet with bacon and home fries—everything was cooked just right, with crispy bacon and golden, well-seasoned potatoes. Portions are generous, and the coffee is solid (and refilled often!). If you’re looking for a casual but nicely done breakfast or lunch near the lake, East Shore Roadhouse is a great pick—simple, tasty food in a space that feels both homey and up-to-date.

They're still working out bugs (it seems). Service was a bit slow (had to ask for a coffee refill rather than being asked if I needed one) but the food was VERY good. A little pricier than I had hoped for 3($50 for a family of 4) , but they're shooting for more of an upscale breakfast experience rather than a family experience.

This was our first visit to the Roadhouse. As usual, I will preface that I'm a hard rater. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast during a very busy Sunday morning at the restaurant. The staff was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions based on our comments and preferences. My wife ordered one of the specials that day, the spinach Florentine with hollandaise sauce. It was very tasty and she finished every bite, except for the one I took. I ordered off the menu and chose "the usual" aptly named as it is what I usually order. Two eggs (mine were perfectly cooked over medium), home fries, local bacon (sooo good) and marble rye toast in place of the day's fruit or veggie. We also had decaf coffee that was very good. The creamer was a bit light for my taste. All in all I highly recommend the E.S.R. for breakfast. We'll have to stop by for another meal, which I'm sure will be yummy as well.

Stopped in for breakfast Sunday morning. It was nearly full. We got seated quickly. Waitstaff is nice and friendly. 😊 There's space to move about and it's not too loud inside. We got our drinx quickly, but it took a bit to get our food. That was fine. The food was good/OK - typical diner fare. The prices were perfect. It's nice to have a good choice in the area for breakfast.

First time we went, service good ,food amazing, 2nd time ,took forever to be acknowleged, food still great, 3rd attempt no greeting or acknowledgement for the line forming at the door, the staff seemed irritated to have customers. We, like others before us left.Customer service is as important as the quality of the food.

Out of town Customer Review: We recently came here for breakfast and overall had a good experience, with a few areas that could improve. When we arrived, the place was full, which wasn’t an issue at all. We waited about 20-30 minutes. The wait itself was fine; however, as tables started to open up, they weren’t being cleaned promptly, which delayed us being seated. That first impression was a bit frustrating. Once seated, we were not given a menu right away however we placed our drink order. Just a heads up—there is no hot chocolate, and it’s not on the menu. That said, the juices and other drink options were great and very refreshing. Our server truly stood out. She was kind, friendly, super polite, and very attentive. She gave thoughtful recommendations and made us feel welcome. One thing that was pointed out at the table was the eggs. They appeared to be organic, which was a nice touch. The feedback was mixed though—one person felt the eggs were delicious, while another didn’t enjoy them as much. I personally didn’t order eggs, so I can’t speak to them myself. I had to step out before eating, so I got my order to go (blueberry pancakes). The two people I was dining with said their food was very, very good. When I later tried my pancakes, they did not disappoint at all—great flavor, and I can only imagine how amazing they would’ve been fresh and warm. I also used the restroom and noticed how warm and cozy it was, which really highlighted the comfortable atmosphere they’re creating. The only reason for the 3-star rating is the initial seating experience. A couple arrived about 10 minutes after us, and the same staff member (owner) immediately offered them multiple table options—even a dirty one, saying it could be cleaned right away. We’re hoping this wasn’t intentional and just an off moment. Overall, great food, wonderful service from our waitress only. We’d like to come back and hope to be seated in a more timely and organized manner next time. Blessings to the business and continued success to the team.

Visited East Shore Roadhouse with a friend on a busy weekend morning. There was a wait for tables but open seats at the bar. We were allowed to sit immediately, yet told we could only order beverages until our name came up on the waitlist—despite having no intention of taking a table. We sat at the bar for about 45 minutes before being handed menus and allowed to order breakfast, all from the same seats. From a restaurant operations standpoint, bar seating is typically used as a fast-turn channel to relieve dining room pressure and improve throughput for small parties. The approach here felt unnecessarily rigid and inefficient. The popularity and quality of the food are clear, which is why it’s disappointing that process, not demand, ultimately undermined the dining experience.

Honestly I love the food here but every single time we come the service is awful. Similar to many other reviews here, the staff barely acknowledges you even if the place is not busy at all. It takes 30 minutes to finish the interaction of just getting water, menu, and finally getting our waiter to come back and take our order. I understand when things are slammed, but I notice the same behavior when it is not that busy which honestly made me feel a bit frustrated. Our waters always stay empty because they never look in our direction. I think if this place just worked on having better customer interactions, I would suggest everyone to come here but because I always leave feeling a bit like I intruded on their time it prevents me from doing so. I hope they take these reviews to heart and change because I really want to continue to support these kinds of local restaurants.

Back of house can whip up some mean food. Front of house really needs to work on their bedside manner. My table received attitude, I wondered other tables receive attitude. Really dampened the whole experience

Service was subpar at best. If I could give it no stars for service I would. There is nothing worse than feeling like a bother to the staff for coming into a restaurant to eat. Server was not friendly, snippy and just seemed annoyed in general by our presence and anyone else that walked in the door. She poured our coffee, left it by the coffee maker and got sidetracked and finally remembered 10 minutes later that she forgot to bring it to us. Pretty sure OJ was watered down, coffee tasted like flavored water. Food took a reasonable amount of time to come out but she forgot half our order. Food was hot and fresh. Biscuits and gravy was very good. I had to wait another 6-7 minutes for her to bring butter and syrup which by that time my pancake was cold. Had to wait another 15 minutes for a second cup of coffee. We were full by the time our other half of food arrived unfortunately.

We arrived at the restaurant at around 12:45 pm and they were a little busy. We got our coffee pretty fast, but the food took almost 50 min to arrive. We ordered a loaded breakfast bowl and a pull pork sandwich. The pull pork sandwich was okay, but the breakfast bowl was very bland and cold. It really felt like they forgot our food, so I approached the staff, asking them to check on our food. The staff said, "It's coming in a sec." without really explaining why it took so long. At this point, we had 4 tables of guests in the restaurant, and they were not busy at all. We ended up taking a few bites of our food and left because it wasn't the experience we were after.

Food was good, but service was terrible. The waitress was rude in all of her answers since we got there. I let it go at first, until she was rude to my friend. My friend has cancer and swallowing issues. My friend politely explained the swallowing issue and asked if her soup could be blended. Before she could even finish her question, the waitress said No! with a rude tone without even adding something nice, like “No, we don’t have a way to do that”or “No, we cannot accommodate that”. Her answer was short and rude with an awful tone and attitude. I’m guessing she’s the owner or manager, otherwise I can’t imagine how an employee with those manners would keep a job. I wasn’t upset that she couldn’t accommodate our request on the soup, I was upset at the way she replied to us and her rude tone. We don’t recommend going there unless you like bad service and rude staff.

We came in with a group of 5. A table was available of our size. We stood in the doorway for 10 minutes and were not sat, making eye contact with staff. Two men came in after us and sat at the bar and were given coffee, menus, etc. A group of 3 came in after us and stood behind us. We continued waiting and the people behind us decided to leave. We eventually sat after we asked if we should be waiting to sit. We were never approached. We decided to leave. It was not too busy for them to greet us and seat us.

My husband and I looked forward to a special breakfast to celebrate Father's Day. We got to your restaurant at 7:20. We always arrive early when we hope a restaurant isn't busy and we can get a table that isn't close to other diner's as I am immune compromised and only recently began feeling safe eating indoors. I was wearing a mask when we entered, and asked to sit at a table in the corner (4 person). The server told us the only table we could have was a 2-person table right by the door because "it was going to get busy." It looked like there were only two, 2-person tables in the restaurant. We aŕrived early because we didn't want to eat at a busy time. Had another couple arrived before us and taken the 2-person table, we would have been able to sit at one in a better location for our requirements. The server showed absolutely no compassion; my health needs have never been so completely discounted. She offered no options. It absolutely ruined a special day that we had been looking forward to celebrating. We had no choice but to leave. I will likely call to speak with a manager because if the server disregards my health needs she is likely to have offended or created unnecessary stress for others as well.

Sounds like my dining experience was...underwhelming at best. When basic gestures of hospitality are missing—like offering dessert, expressing thanks, or just being attentive—it’s natural to feel a tip isn’t earned. Tipping is often seen as a reflection of service quality, and if the service was cold, inattentive, or transactional, it can leave a bad taste no amount of sugar could fix. Of course, tipping customs can vary by region and culture, but in the U.S., tips make up a large part of a server’s income. That said, it’s okay to expect a certain level of engagement in return. If you feel strongly about it, sometimes a note with your payment—something polite but honest—can speak louder than silence. Sounds like I was treated more like background noise than a valued guest. When the basics of hospitality aren’t met—refilling water, acknowledging the customer, offering the full menu—it’s completely understandable to feel frustrated. A tip isn’t just a reflex; it’s a response to how well someone cared for you. And if your toast-at-home fantasy genuinely feels like a better experience, that says a lot. Still, many servers rely on tips to make ends meet, even if the service was lacking. So, the dilemma is real. Some people go for a symbolic tip—like a single dollar or a note explaining why the service didn’t meet expectations. It can be a small but powerful nudge toward change. If you want to get a tip work for it, make sure you learn to ensure prompt service, don't let people wait, talk to them, make them laugh, ask about their day, bring extra napkins, and don't use a case of the Monday's voice "enjoy". You should really smile more!
