What a great place in the middle of nowhere!! Pleasant place to stay for the night, and their restaurant is outstanding!!!! It's a little like stepping back in time. Excellent food, service and atmosphere! Plus, the owners are wonderful!! Well worth going out of the way to experience it!!!!!!

Surprisingly affordable faux French restaurant, with authentic and delicious fare, a rustic atmosphere, and excellent service. Limited menu, not much for vegetarians, but the staff is quiet and efficient, and allow you to order altered courses

I just wanted to thank you for an amazing Thanksgiving Dinner. With my wife's schedule and mine, cooking a delicious meal is not time well spent as we both work 11 hours days Monday through Friday. So, by ordering your catered meals we are both able to enjoy a lovely meal and have quality time together which is most precious right now. Everything was incredible and I greatly appreciate the gift meal you gave my wife so id have a lunch the following Friday for which I had to work. It really brought happiness to me eating two delicious meals! Thank you again for your culinary expertise and kindness for the 3rd thanksgiving in a row. Respectfully Dave and Jenn

I had my first experience with the "at home" meals. The food is delicious! I had appetizers, a main course, and dessert, and everything was wonderful. The pick-up experience was easy and went smoothly. The reheating instructions on the packages worked perfectly. The serving sizes were generous. I've always heard very good things about the Horned Dorset, but this was my first experience with them. They more than lived up to their reputation!

Worked a wedding where the Horned Dorset was the caterer and the food and beverage service was one of the best I've encountered. The entire staff was immaculate as well as on task and helpful well beyond their assigned duties. They were on time throughout the event and the food and beverage displays were pristine. The food was delicious, the drinks were refreshing and the staff was friendly. I would highly recommend the Horned Dorset to cater your next event!

We went to the Horned Dorset to celebrate our 45th Anniversary. From the appetizers to the dessert our meal was fantastic. Server was friendly and attentive. There is no place around that has the same atmosphere...love the beautiful woodwork, art and the quaintness that they have to offer.

My wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary and had dinner at the Horned Dorset. The entire experience was great! The staff was extremely friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu and food in general. They answered all of our questions and even gave history on some of the dishes. This was a truly fun and interesting experience. We both ordered the chefs tasting menu, this was 7 courses of finely prepared quality food. We immensely enjoyed our evening and dinners. We have left many restaurants in the past and have said i wish we went here or there instead, after leaving we both are excited to return again! Thank you Horned Dorset Inn for such a wonderful and memorable time!

Wow! They’ve really nailed this takeout process. We had the French onion soup, short ribs, cauliflower/leek gratin and the chocolate bomb for dessert. All were excellent! The short rib was huge with no bone and very little fat. Simply delicious! Very nice touches like a small loaf of bread, horseradish cream, and a mint sprig with the bombe. So nicely thought out with clear instructions on warming things up in the oven, with nothing dried out. A great Delicious hot meal rather than a lukewarm takeout. A real treat—the highlight of our week.

Everything about the experience was absolutely wonderful. We came for dinner and stayed the night at the Inn. The food was very creative and exceptionally delicious. Well worth the drive. We were very impressed by the food and the service. Our room at the Inn was delightful as well. The staff were wonderful. I have already recommended this establishment to friends and coworkers. We ordered the lobster bisque, charred octopus, foie gras, halibut, pork and scallops, and yule log. Nothing was what we expected, and every expectation was exceeded.

Excellent food and excellent service! Everyone was friendly and polite, and the waitstaff were courteous and attentive. The atmosphere was laid back, and the food! The food was amazing, simply put. If you're looking for a nice night out or celebrating an occasion, go here!

My wife and I recently moved to New Berlin from the metropolitan area and have been looking for a fine dining establishment close by. The Horned Dorset by far exceeded our expectations. To start, you walk into a beautiful room with extraordinary period pieces which can be seen throughout the restaurant. Next you are greeted by a friendly and very attentive staff who will provide you the very interesting history of the establishment. The best part is Chef Aaron's culinary experience is clearly delivered in the delicious food from the starters, the main offerings to the deserts all done to perfection! Thank you!

Absolutely wonderful! We arrived late and the owners called to make sure we were ok, and met us personally to make sure we got into our room ok. We stayed at the Utopia Library house, and were blown away - absolutely taken back in time. Loved browsing the library, books well over 100 years old... We did the Chef Tasting Menu at dinner with pairing wines - well worth the money, the chef put on a show. The staff were beyond accommodating and friendly - dinner did take a solid 3 hours, but it was an incredible, relaxing experience. We will absolutely be back.

I'm not usually the type to go out for a fine dinning experience like this but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The environment was a little hard to get past in the sense that some waiters would only speak when spoken to as if I were a culinary drill sargent but the elegant chandeliers, live music, and decor has such a charm it quickly lets you forget about it if you're not accustomed to the experience. My food was splendid and describing it does it no justice. I had the special appetizer for the night which was a braised rabbit leg pasta and the texture of the rabbit was just above softened whipped butter, melts in your mouth isn't just an expression in this case. I followed it with the rack and shank of lamb that was on the regular menu cooked to a perfect medium with pink pepper corns and assorted vegetables cooked to perfection with this sauce I forgot the name of but enjoyed thoroughly. We also were given complimentary rasberry cheesecake that was just like velvet as we had our coffee. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We love going to the Horned Dorset Inn .The food is fabulous as is the service. I love eating in the library and listening to soft classical music. No cell phones or loud music. It lends itself to a nice dining experience.

Really amazing food with incredibly thoughtful and courteous service. It's definitely a carnivore's menu, but they're great about accommodating any dietary constraint. The houses here are lovely and old-fashioned, a bit rough around the edges, and sometimes haphazardly decorated.

This is truly one of the most amazing Inns I've ever been to. Outstanding food and meticulous service. Beautiful antique decor. But most exciting to me is their artist colony. I was there performing to raise money for their scholarship fund, and saw some of the works on exhibit. Most impressive, and unique for Central New York as well as beyond. I would heartily encourage anyone interested in a special meal and exquisite lodging experience to give it a try. Would even add a plus to the 5 star rating.

Great food but like many fancy restaurants small portions for high prices

It was OK. They were trying too hard, I thought. My main course was a failure. It simply didn't live up to the promise. My dining companions liked it much better. It may have been that one dish.

As someone who travels often to experience fine dining I was disappointed. We had a party of 5 on a Wednesday night and it was a slow night. The food was subpar, the service was shaky at best, and the prices would have been acceptable if there weren’t random additions (like raisins in my couscous) to my meal, and the atmosphere was disheveled. I went, and for a 50 minute drive I suppose you couldn’t find anything like that in Oneonta, but I will never return.

Beautiful room for a private party. Nice presentation of food. No prices were given with specials. Entree could have been warmer and waiter needed better training.

The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, elegant even. The service is attentive, but the servers do not give a detailed description of food preparation, presentation, or source farms that have become routine for high-end restaurants. The presentation itself is nothing special. Most disappointing is the quality of the food product and the preparation. Tonight, we ordered salmon, rack of lamb, and veal medallions. The salmon was overcooked, the lamb was cooked to the correct temperature but not well seasoned, and the meat itself was not what you would expect for fine dining. The veal was actually bad & tough. The meat was not pounded or seasoned. The cut was not medallions as listed on the menu, and there was a thick bread coating, not thinly breaded as listed. The breading was too browned, actually burnt in spots. The side salad appeared to be out of a bag, and the dressing had too much vinegar. The owners need to do something about what the kitchen is turning out to maintain the restaurant's reputation. At one point, the Horned Dorest was the only fine dining establishment in the larger region. However, Utica has been home to Motus and the Tailor and the Cook for some time now. Those restrauants' menus tell you what local farm sourced your meal, and both the preparation and presentation are as good as you would find in Manhattan. Motus, in particular, also serves killer cocktails. I want to love the Horned Dorest for the unexpected pleasure of fine dining in the middle of nowhere, but tonight, I just wanted to turn back the meal.

Colossal disappointment. This place was highly recommended but it food was terrible. maybe got them on a bad night.

We had a disappointing experience with the Horned Dorset this week. We called to place an order for Christmas dinner within their advertised ordering window for the holiday. I left a message placing my order and thought all was well. Someone was supposed to call back to take my credit card information but never did, so I called several more times and left several messages. They finally decided to call me two days before Christmas (after all local restaurants stopped taking orders) to tell me they got my message but were too busy to return my call in a timely manner or to fulfill my order. This leaves us with very few Christmas options, and now we have to rush to find an alternative instead of relaxing and enjoying the holiday.
