Opinions de The Retreat Liverpool
Had a mini class reunion there last week. Food was great. Our servicer was so accommodating. My ribeye was perfect as well as my husband's club sandwich.
I really enjoyed my visit here today. The service was great. The food was fresh. I loved the new England clam chowder. I will definitely be back.
The atmosphere is very friendly. The wait staff is very efficient and accommodating. I go quite offen for the Tommy O'Brian strawberry blue salad. But every now and then, I'll have the waitress "surprise me", with anything off the menu. I have never been disappointed. Keep up the good work. I'll be back for more👍🏻
It was great. Good food. A little confused about seating and the waitress / hostess was annoyed. It was awkward who was seating people. My wife's steak was kinda thin, so it was not rare. It was good. We'll be be back. Damn good onion rings. Solid good prices. Pepsi? Not a fan. Truth telling is its a great place.
I had called ahead to make reservations for 2 for a Thursday evening but when we showed up at the restaurant, there was a sign for patrons to seat themselves and no host/hostess in sight. We sat down and a waitress quickly came over to take drink orders. (I explained we had reservations just so they didn't think we bailed on them.) I hadn't been to this restaurant in many years and it looked different than I remembered but the atmosphere was warm and casual. The menu was extensive and we found the sheet of folded paper containing the specials on our own - the waitress never mentioned it. We ordered the salmon cakes appetizer for starters and then I ordered a special of sirloin tips with noodles that sounded good on this rainy evening. My friend ordered the shrimp skewers with risoto. I'm not a fan of crab cakes so I wasn't going to even try the salmon cakes but I'm glad I did. They were delicious and tasty with a slight crunch from the panko. The cakes were accompanied by a small container of creamy dill sauce which had just the right amount of dill as to not overpower the cakes. My friend devoured his shrimp and had a few bites of the risotto. He wasn't expecting a tomato risotto but he still took the leftovers home for later. I have to be honest that when the waitress set my dish of sirloin tips and noodles down on the table, it reminded me of a dog bowl with food in it. Heck, it even sort of looked like dog food. However, one bite of this dish made me fall in love and shamefully regret the aforementioned comparison. The gravy was a perfect consistency and the beef was fall apart tender. The noodles were also cooked perfectly - not too hard and not too mushy. There was also plenty to take home for lunch the next day. The restaurant wasn't as I'd remembered it so long ago but I had a new found infatuation for it, and will return again soon!
My husband and I had a great experience at the Retreat this evening. The warm bread with garlic butter was delicious. The French Onion soup was good with nicely browned cheese. Salads were fresh, cold and crisp. I had the Imperial Grouper with asparagus and a baked potato. Ample portion and delicious. My husband had the prime rib which was cooked to his liking, although a little fatty, but tender. However, the best part of our outing was Sam, our waitress. She was very personable, funny, knowledgeable and efficient without making us feel rushed. She is definitely one of the best waitresses we ever had.
We found the place through a Google search and discovered that this is a well-known place in Syracuse with a great reputation. Our food was worth the cost. It was delicious. Chicken quesadillas, Nashville Honey Hot sandwich and Philly Cheese Steak. It was very close to the hotel area in Liverpool (8 min away). Service was quick. We went on Wednesday 5:30pm. No issues getting a table. This was a hit. Side fries wholly unnecessary, fyi. The restaurant is family friendly with separate areas for bar. The place was fully booked around 6pm, which shows how popular it is with folks of all ages. Bar is open late and seems like the patio area is quite popular at night.
June 24th, 6:10pm. "4 Sam was our waitress in the dining room. Amazing service & friendly. Never felt rushed. We had the Rugged Ruben & the Caveman's Club. The onion ring & fries are light & the best. I've never had a club sandwich so full of meat & as much flavor. The best!! I could not eat it all & had 1/4 for lunch 2 days later & tasted great. Would recommend The Retreat for sure...
The place was very nice and the dining area outside was light up very nicely during the summer evening. My server was quick to take my order even though it seemed to be very busy. My food came out in good timing and hot. My favorite there is always the onion soup. Their sweet potato fries have a great crunch with a soft inner tenderness, which I love. The bar area outside servers and attendees were very nice with smiles and made me feel welcome. I definitely recommend this place for a good meal and if you want to meet new friends or ones you already have.
This is not your ordinary copycat menu. This place clearly has an expertly trained chef. The food was fantastic AND affordable. Our server, Taylor, seemed a little hurried at first, but quickly became one of the best we have ever had. She guided us into exquisite dishes. I had the crab coated grouper, better than most I've had in Florida, and my husband had the chicken francais with a side of the best French onion soup ever. Everything was great! Thanks Taylor and the chef and staff at Retreat for a marvelous experience. We own a restaurant, so we have high expectations.
Love going there in the summer and when the emu have entertainment. Different food - interesting- and not boring. Great atmosphere.

Top Liverpool Restaurant for whatever meal brunch, lunch, dinner or just drinks and a snack. Never had bad food or experience. Great staff.
The drinks were well-made, with their signature cocktails standing out for their creativity and flavor. I had the mojito, and it was refreshing, with just the right balance of mint and lime. The atmosphere was lively, with a casual vibe that made it a great spot to hang out with friends. The service was friendly, though a little slow at times. The food was decent, but nothing extraordinary.
My food experience was great!! I had seafood Neptune no mushrooms (can't tolerate them) I also had French onion soup. Awesome. Although, I have to admit, my food didn't look pleasant, to the eyes because all you could see was sauce, but oh that sauce!!! It was heaven 11.14.25 date night with hubby. I ordered prime rib. Very very nice cut. But, there was a lot of unrendered fat. Yes, I know to expect fat on prime rib. Also, I will remember NOT to agree to a booth. I felt like I was being pushed forward. It was weird. Added salt to the French onion soup until we got our bread then I buttered it and began dunking so that helped. I was very surprised that I did not get horseradish with my prime rib? My hubby got 🍤 cocktail and it had so much horseradish I know it was not something unavailable. Had I realized I was not getting any, I would've saved what I took from hubby. Instead I put extra cocktail sauce from hubby's shrimp cocktail, on top of my salmon cake (lemon also) along with the dill sauce which truly amplified the dish. Oh, and With every bite, I had spinach leaves as well with every bite. The server was fine but didn't listen very well. And was not very attentive.
Food was good, prices were average. Atmosphere was pleasant on outside patio. Waiter could have been more attentive, checked back once but never offered to refill our drinks.
The Retreat is a local bar and restaurant that has been a fixture in Syracuse. My mother always gets the fish and chips, but there are many other worthy items on the menu. The sandwiches here are good and loaded. Very tasty and the fries are very crispy. Definitely a good place to grab a meal especially lunch. Good beer selection also. Always enjoy a stop at The Retreat.
Most recent experiences have been very positive! Staff is friendly, they do their best to accommodate when it's busy and no apparent competency issues as experienced in the past. The food is either getting better or I'm just picking newer and better menu items. Still really enjoy the outside area and I love the updates to it! Now rain or shine with the new cover you can eat outside. Family friendly, relaxed experience and with continued positive experiences maybe this will go 5 stars!

The Retreat has indoor and outdoor bars and dining areas. We chose outdoor dining because covid was still surging in upstate New York. Dinners come with a choice of salad or soup. The salad, with thousand Island dressing, was excellent after removing the tasteless, lye-cured black olive slices. The seafood chowder was also excellent getting our meals off to a good start. I ordered sauerbraten because I had read in a review that the restaurant was known for this classic German dish. The dinner with sides was so large that it had to be served on two separate dinner plates. The sauerbraten and egg noodles with gravy on one, and the red cabbage, applesauce, 2 potato pancakes, and a side of sour cream on the second. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the sauerbraten I had had on a number of occasions at Danzers German Restaurant on Ainsley Drive. The meat was not cooked long and slow to tenderize it and the sweet/sour sauce was too sweet with too little contrasting red wine vinegar. On the other hand, the potato pancakes and red cabbage were excellent, and the noodles were briefly fried to make them crispy on the edges. A very nice touch. My wife had much better luck with the turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, squash and gravy. (also served on two plates), with enough leftovers for a full second meal at home. UPDATE-1: On our return visit, the weather dictated that we eat indoors. We were seated at a very comfortable booth in one of the smaller dining rooms. As with our first visit, the meal had its ups and downs. I was very happy with my Reuben sandwich even though the presentation was different than that described on the menu. It was supposed to be open-faced because it was said to be so big that you had to eat it with a knife and fork. In reality it was served as a normal sandwich but the ingredients were tasty and the marble rye was perfectly toasted. When I ordered, I declined the accompanying fries but asked instead for a small side salad. I thought there might be an upcharge for the salad, but instead they charged its full price while omitting the fries. No problem, the price was reasonable anyhow. I ordered a slice of raspberry pie for dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pie was totally forgettable. It might very well have been purchased frozen in a grocery store. My wife had a problem with her turkey special. If you look at the picture from last year they served the gravy on the side. This year they ladled large amounts of it all over the mashed potatoes, dressing, and turkey, reaching a depth of a half an inch in the middle of the plate. We decided to box it and take it home so we could rinse the turkey for use in turkey sandwiches. The turkey, by the way, was excellent hand carved from a turkey breast and not from a turkey roll as is the practice at some restaurants. Balancing things out, my wife had much better luck with with her dessert than I had. She ordered a lemon blueberry mascarpone cake. It was delicious.

The food is great, but if you have a child that requires a high chair, plan on a long wait, even if they have tables available. In my opinion, they make the wait so long that you won't want to stay and they don't have to deal with young kids.
Several years ago, we came to The Retreat and had a great time. It was in the middle of the dinner rush, it was hopping, the service was great, and based on that experience, we came back tonight. Saturday night, 7:45 and they had closed off two thirds of the restaurant's tables despite there being several people eating at some of the tables - the only place open for service was the "seat-yourself" bar, which was mobbed, loud, and had no available tables despite advertising being open until midnight, with the kitchen open until 11 pm on Saturday nights. I think you shouldn't advertise as a restaurant if you're only going to be a bar on Saturday nights after 7:30 pm! There was no way for me to get another shot at this place tonight. My recommendation? Go when it's busy.

To be completely honest I'll eat here cause of the outside atmosphere. The service was garbage. We wanted an outside table the said there was none n seated us near the door to the outside were everyone goes in and out mind u I have 3 kids n one of them is in highchair. Nobody got us the high chair we got it ourselves and they were stuck together finally we are all seated and they said a table opened up outside but if it rains you'll get wet. So we took the outside table anyway. The waiter looks at us n says ok grab everything n ill meet u out there. So with our hands full of kids we had to get our drinks, silverware and napkins n the high chair all our selfs n carry it to the table. Yeah not fun. We got our food it looked very pretty but in reality it was nothing special pretty bland to us. Honestly eating there was a disaster. Shocked on how poor the service was and like I said food looked great for pics but wasn't worth the money we payed for it.
