Absolutely my favorite restaurant you won't find service better in any restaurant.
Great food. Very attentive staff. Always a pleasure.
Great place, excellent food. Very friendly and excellent service.
I totally recommend the fettuccine with white truffle ! It’s so good. The bread was the best part.

It’s like eating in Northern Italy! My new favorite restaurant.

The food is high quality. The service is great. My waiter was wonderful as was the manager. Salmon is exquisite.
A delightful Italian restaurant with adorable outdoor seating areas. The host could be more pleasant but the waitstaff and food were great.
Always greeted with smiling faces. The food and service is always consistent. A+. Highly recommend.
Service was great! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Great birthday lunch for my wife on a rainy afternoon!
The best of the north shore not that pricey left a 20 dollar tip and I dined alone for lunch
Fresh pasta! so yummy!
Very nice experience, sat outside and it was a little buggy but they did have citronella candles at each table
Great atmosphere outside and inside. Wonderful Italian menu with great seafood choices! I highly recommend this restaurant!
Food and service excellent, Locust Valley people are snobby.
Quiet atmosphere, attentive and courteous staff. Chef is on point, specials are always just that. Will continue to patronize for years to come.
Sat outside on the patio for lunch. Had a great waiter and the seafood linguine was delicious. The food never disappoints.
Great Italian restaurant best service ever received great portions and very friendly owner, highly recommend !
I have been coming here for YEARS and have never been disappointed. Wonderful food and service.
Food and service was great. Engagement dinner to meet my daughter's new in-laws.
Enjoyed my lunch very much...they are very accommodating. Highly recommend.
A classy upscale restaurant. Soup to nuts - 5 stars all around!
Fabulous outdoor luncheon for my family after a service at the Locust Valley Cemetery . Food and service was excellent, Thank you!!
What a cozy dining place We did Outside Dining ,It was excellent Food and cocktails was Delicious!
Delicious dinner in a beautiful outdoor seating area. On a Tuesday service was perfect, had the orecchiette special, almost ate my date’s meal too! Great spot for Italian fare.
Great Italian food. Very quaint homely environment. The appetizers, pasta and dessert were all delicious. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the area.
I’ve been coming here for three years and it never disappoints. The food is always delicious. The ambience is relaxed and very pleasant. Highly recommend.
Great fine dining! I've been going there for decades and I have arranged reunions to be held there as well. The wine list is excellent!
I was there with my entire family and had a great time. The food was outstanding.I recommend it.
The best Italian restaurant on Nort shore. Great food and excellent service. Place have excellent atmosphere it's just relaxing to dinne there. Vitro having a great team working for him. Wishing him and all the guys there best of luck.
The service and atmosphere of Basil Leaf is top notch. I ate here for a company party and enjoyed the food immensely. I'd recommend Basil Leaf to anyone looking for a fine dining place.
I went there with my husband and a friend, very nice place. I had the gnocchi pesto, which was outstanding. It was light and delicious. Great service as well.
Have been going there for 20 years. Great food, great service. Vito, the owner is a gracious host, and Adam, the manager runs it like a precision watch.
Really delicious food. Our group was fairly big and so there was a little bit of a wait in between everyone getting their food. The wait was worth it though!
Amazing pizza place! They are using Only High Quality Stuff For Their Restauran well done guys amazing job
This my father's friend from decades ago. Regardless of that - if you want a great meal - this is the place. Baked clams are some of the best I've ever had. Service was great. Bartender was funny. And my meal was out of this world.
Very nice lunch with friends. Bit of a wait between courses but the food and the service purely makes up for it. Will definitely go back. Give it a try. UPDATE: 6/27/21. Just came from my friends 70th birthday party. Great food and equally great service.. highly recommend.
Quite delicious, it's better if you call ahead for a table, specially if you want to seat outside. Great menu including pizza, pasta and meat / poultry / seafood. They have great options for vegetarian and meat lovers as well. Friendly staff and very attentive.
The food was authentic Italian food, everything was very well prepared. I do definitely recommend this place everything we ordered was delicious and to top it all i had the best tiramisu.
This was our first time going to the Basil Leaf Cafe. We made reservations and upon arriving were promptly seated. The service and food was great. The food was authentic and was flavorful. The wait staff is also good at anticipating your needs and making suggestions.
Simply the best all around restaurant in the area. The food is absolutely delicious, no matter what your choice of entrees. The service is impeccable and Adam never fails to accommodate. A superb dining experience!
This is a wonderful place. The food, location and service were all top notch. I don’t understand the negative comments here about the manager, as we found him to be gracious and very helpful
Top restaurant in the North Shore, has been here since the early 90’s and I’ve been going my entire life. Having just moved back to the area I’m happy to be a constant customer of this amazing establishment again. The staff is the same, the recipes are the same. All the dishes are extremely consistent. Local celebrities without saying names are customers. It’s one of those red sauce joints that just hits the spot every time without breaking the bank in an unreasonable way. Whenever you’re looking for a solid Italian experience basil leaf and it’s service never disappoint. These employees live for this as if it’s a cottage industry they all sleep in. The passion shows through the food.
Best pasta I have ever had in my whole life. Would visit NY just for this restaurant. Ps get the lamb chops.
Outstanding service . Food was crazy good . And Adam the manager was a true gentleman. Highly recommended. It was a party I had there. Great place.!! It's no wonder I've been going for years .
Exquisite Italian food beautifully served in a lovely atmosphere. The location feels like you are in a European village. Everything was delicious. They do parties too. Highly recommended 👌
Comfortable pub style ambiance. Well prepared Italian cuisine.
Good food if a bit expensive. Quite comfy though. Also quite popular. Call ahead.
It was the most authentic Italian experience I have had in the US, while being creative with the menu at the same time. Molto buono!
Went for lunch & ordered main course salad w/chicken friend had pasta & clams, 2 drinks We shared a dessert profiterol. Very pricy & profiterol was hard not fresh. Wasn't worth the pricy bill.
Very pleasing food. Pizza was good but maybe not their specialty. Pappardelle pasta was full of sausage. Lovely salads. Nice ambiance and good service. Plan to dine!
I have been here a few times, and this is the first time I felt that my wife and I, along with two of our friends, were rushed.
Nice cafe restaurant in locust valley, great Italian food with outdoor dining option. Service is polite but unhurried almost slow, but you are not eating here if you are in a rush, the food has the classic slow cooked, genuine Italian feel.
Interesting restaurant as it has two separate rooms on either side of an entrance terrace. Each side has a very different feel. Good was very good and the service was friendly and efficient. Worth a try
Fine dining in an eclectic setting Dined their with a group of friends. The wait staff was quite attentive and the food was very tasty. The only item we thought was not quite up to par was the pasta. It was a bit too Al dente and could have used a minute or two more. Will return.
Great location and I love sitting outside. Pricey. Salmon was plain!!! Not bad - but no flavors added. Drinks were good. Service is good. It is a nice place to be but I do not love the food.
I hadn't dined at the Basil Leaf in locust valley for a very long time and I'm so happy I returned there for a birthday celebration. The outdoor patio is very cozy and inviting. It takes you away and makes you feel like you're in another country. It's a charming place with lots of different eating areas so it feels very intimate no matter where you are. The food was very good and they have so much on the menu. (It's almost overwhelming.) The service was very good and the desserts were excellent as well. Nice place to catch up with friends over a good meal.
First-time customer. Service slow with bringing in the bread. Food was 4/5. It was very empty for lunch. For the steep prices, it was annoying to hear two females doing their business transactions there. Such a shame for such a nice place. Oh and as you read what you like off the menu in English, the waiter says it in really bad Italian as he writes down your order. Again, classy place, but where is the classy service and classy environment?
The menu choices were good. Food was also very good. Prices were a bit high for a place that needed a serious facelift on the outside, with old asbestos shingles and some obvious cheap exterior repair work. We were happily surprised at the hidden courtyard and backyard dining areas. There are also two completely separate interior dining rooms. So why not five stars? I can overlook a somewhat shabby exterior. After all, the service was good too. The problem was the actual host (who might be an owner, not sure). There was no smile or anything welcoming about the way we were greeted. I was sternly asked if I had a reservation, even though the place was at around 30% of capacity, so the question struck me as pretentious and unnecessary. If I were there to join a larger party, I clearly would have shared that information upon entry. We were not given a choice for our table, even though we were the only ones eating in the forward courtyard area. The guy didn't engage with us one bit and didn't even supply menus, so as a former restaurateur, I think he may need to reassess his role there.
Its good food but way to expensive for the quality of food and to add one shrimp to your Alfredo is $4 a shrimp and not to many options on the menu
Food is good and ambience is nice but they take more reservations than they can accommodate so expect long waits
Love coming here for pizza, rice balls and minestrone soup! Everything on the menu is great
Table service was not good. The food that we ordered was delicious.
Food is tasty, but portion sizes are small.
I would say it was just ok based on my most recent visit. I was not aware that Basil Leaf Cafe have become an Italian restaurant. The pasta dishes sounded good but I did not order it because I'm watching my carbs.
Great atmosphere, food is decent. Bread was super hard, coat check guy dragged my coat across the floor and waited 40 minutes to get our check.
The food and service was wonderful. The noise level was impossible. It was really difficult to have a conversation and we left before dessert because of that. It was a Friday night.
Went for a late lunch with friend and shared the fried calamari. Fresh but the marinara sauce was flat. It said spicy on the menu. We asked for the spicy sauce and they gave a bottle of hot sauce. Nothing the chef made. Chicken breast was good and fresh with vegetables. Not a place where I would spend my money again.
The entire staff seemed to be new. Spilling drinks, bringing entrees out 5 minutes apart from each other, not knowing if there's dairy in certain dishes, ignoring the females at the table etc. The pesto pizza doesn't really taste like much. The seafood pasta had some chewy calamari. But the special chicken was great. A lot of money for what it is. But you are paying for the outdoor ambiance, which is really lovely.
Food is just ok. Drinks are in the smallest glasses I have seen....ever...a really short pour
Manager was very rude with us… I ordered a lava cake and they didn’t heat it up for me and gave it to me cold
dont order fish unless you like it dried out and tough. halibut was tasteless and hard to chew. very expensive for a meal i could have done just as poorly at home
The minestrone soup was very good. The rest of the food was mediocre. The veal was paper thin and tough. The salads were soggy. The server was rude and mixed up the food order. He refused to listen to our complaints, after asking, how’s everything. I’ve added a star for the delightful summer weather. We’d patronized the restaurant since the mid 80’s. It’s gone downhill.
I was excited to finally visit this establishment and take my parents out to a cute restaurant. When we arrived we weren’t hungry for food because we had eaten earlier so we decided to just get dessert. The restaurant was cute and my parents were really excited. Once I asked for just the dessert menu, my server looked shocked and got the manager / owner. The manager told us that this was not okay but he’ll let it slide this ONE time, next time we had to get dinner. I was shocked but didn’t want to argue because I just wanted to have a nice time with my family. I have never in my life been instructed as to what I was required to order or not allowed to order at a restaurant. My mom felt extremely uncomfortable and offended as if we were accused of doing something wrong. Next time, if you’re going to serve us regardless consider saying nothing. I thought the establishment was really cute and came here to spend my hard earned money on your menu items. It was our first time visiting and all of us felt uncomfortable the entire time and instead of gaining potential customers you’ve turned us all off.
Good food good service but extremely rude manager
Wouldn’t recommend. Food and service wasn’t good. Definitely over priced for what you get.
just don't know where to start.. we made a reservation at this restaurant as it was close to a relative's house and we wanted to meet them for dinner. I had a reservation for 7:30. We got there to find the place very crowded. It is a small restaurant with very little room to move. We stood at the bar and had a drink. The ONLY good thing about this place was the bartender. He is very nice. I asked the mgr. at around 8pm. How much longer it may be. He said we were next. Great! There was a table paying that was by the bar. The mgr. walked past the table called my name and said "next". Well, much to our surprise, after the table was cleared, he sat other people there! When I questioned what he did, he told me that we had to request a table in the bar area when we called. How the Hell would I know that! I didn't know that there was a seating hierarchy. We were given a table in the main building, which apparently is the less desirable area. The entrance area stunk of mothballs. The small dining area was extremely loud. I now know why it is the less desirable dining room. The waiters were stressed and overwhelmed. We were given menus, we sat, and sat, he never came back. I had to flag him to take our order. If we wanted something, we had to flag the waiter. I had the macaroni and meat sauce. It was good, not great. My husband on the other hand, had the spaghetti and white clam sauce. Well, it was spaghetti with clams on top, no sauce to speak of. How the heck, can you screw that up? It is an Italian staple. Needless to say, I will not return and will not recommend this place.
Shared a night out with 3 other couples on Friday, June 11, 2021. Through mutual friends I've been invited to dine at Basil Leaf uncountable times over the last 15 years. Never considered posting less than a 4 star rating. Things have taken a turn for the worse my last TWO experiences. I like the folks at BL, sincerely hope they turn things around. Forced to check a single star.
I haven't been there personally, but the owner doesn't seem to be a serious person! Our invoice for furniture components dated back to 16th of November 2021 is - although several times been reminded - still not paid!
Came here with a friend from out of town..knowing they had outdoor seating..I’ve been here a few years thinking the food was good.. We both ordered a salad from the menu with salmon on the side.. the salmon piece was 1 inch x 3 and not exaggerating 2 tablespoons worth of salad.. (we said to each other weres the salad? I guess it a very small lunch portion) . until we received the bill.. They charged $39 for the smallest dish I’ve ever seen.. I understand everything has went up.. BUT THATS TOTAL INSANITY.. my glass of wine fell on floor.. due to lopsided table.. they didn’t offer me another glass and had the audacity to charge us.. so basically a $168 with tip lunch.. Talked to manager.. was very rude.. looked at us and said these are the prices! Horrible customer service.. We could’ve eaten in some of the best steakhouses and it wouldn’t of cost that much!
It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon, we aren’t from Long Island but after going to an event there, my husband and I decided to pick a random restaurant, for us to have a proper meal, as opposed to getting a drive-thru and eating in the car. And that’s how we ended up in this restaurant. When we got there, I approached a staff and asked for a table for 2 please. This gentleman looked at me from head to toe before saying “okay” with an uncertain tone, there was this evident shock on his face. By the way, my husband and I are of Asian and Spanish race and we both have dark brown skin color. We ordered our food, and as we were waiting, I noticed the rest of the customers were all Caucasian looking and very well-off looking. We were the couple with the darkest skin color in there that day. This other gentleman, who I assume was the restaurant manager - wearing a coat, busy walking back and forth and greeting other customers as they come and go, going from table to table - didn’t even stop at our table to ask if the food or everything was okay. The food was okay, nothing too “special” I would consider, if anything, that place is a must go for the vibe as it is a pretty cute restaurant with nice outdoor seatings. But getting that kind of treatment made our vibe about the place totally off. They don’t seem to value and appreciate the diversity of customers. What a turn off! And also, who serves soda in what seemed to be a tiny goblet? My husband loves soda with his meal and he was served this goblet which can be emptied in one sipping. He had to order two. I say, charge the customers however you feel is necessary for a soda, but please serve it in a proper glass. I ordered for spaghetti with clams and white sauce, only spaghetti with clams on top was served, there’s no white sauce. The description may as well be “spaghetti with clam and clear sauce”, that would’ve made a perfect sense and set a proper expectations! I will not recommend this restaurant and we certainly aren’t coming back.
For all everyone if you are trying to eat from a place that Adam is the manager is hiring every week ,you have to understand something is wrong!
It’s incredible how one toxic manager can ruin what could have been a lovely experience. The place is charming, the food is good and our waitress was absolutely wonderful. But the manager? Shockingly rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. We are never coming back!
If you are looking for a manager who will answer your questions in a respectful and professional way don’t expect this from Adam . Extremely rude , arrogant and unapologetic in his behavior .
The manager refused to seat me and my girlfriend outside with my two service dogs. He was being extremely disrespectful and wouldn’t even let us speak and starting yelling “No dogs” before we even stepped foot into the restaurant. Super disappointed and will never give my business to this rude institution.
The host Adamo is an awful and rude human. The fact that he is the one representing this restaurant is embarrassing and brings the value of this restaurant down. I asked for a table of 2 at first he said 5 minutes than changed it to 45 minutes when there was clearly a bunch of tables open. While politely asking him to squeeze us in he became aggressive and started screaming and neglecting the rules of personal space. This man is a huge disgrace to this restaurant. If want to go get screamed at by an old grumpy man than this is the place to go.
