We finally tried the Nazionale as a restaurant (it's always been our favorite café in Lodi) today with my husband and in-laws, and I have to say we're VERY pleased. The food is truly excellent, the dishes served with care, grace, and culinary creativity. We tried a variety of dishes to get a proper overview. I had a magnificent charcuterie board (a couple of which were truly amazing) with gnocco fritto, my father-in-law had the shrimp and artichoke salad, my husband had a delicious egg surprise, and my mother-in-law started with some delicious ravioli. To continue, both my husband and his mother opted for a fabulous stuffed guinea fowl (off the menu), I had a Franciacorta risotto with oxtail and cocoa (absolutely divine), and my father-in-law had a tasty and succulent Angus steak. Since the portions were so generous, we couldn't indulge any further—but since the desserts are from the café's own pastry shop, we know they're delicious regardless. We didn't order pizza, but we did order a focaccia for an appetizer, so we know the pizza crust will be—like this one was—excellent. I'm sorry I didn't take photos... but I hope the review "in writing" will suffice. We'll definitely be back to eat at this restaurant, and once we've taken photos, we'll definitely review it on Tripadvisor. Great job, keep it up!
After a stroll through the Christmas market stalls, we stopped at Caffè Nazionale for lunch. We decided on the cured meats appetizer with fried gnocco, and I had the Padana pizza. My son had the sliced beef, his partner had macaroni with creamed Zola cheese and honey. All washed down with a bottle of Poggio Rosso and a beer for me. Everything was delicious. Coffee and a liqueur to finish. The place is very beautiful. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, it's worth a revisit.
A very beautiful and elegant restaurant, with attentive, fast, and professional service. A huge thank you to Mr. Fabrizio for his kindness and helpfulness. We tried the Franciacorta risotto with oxtail and cacao noir, and the guanciale with celeriac and mandarin compote. Exceptional!!! Exquisite and beautifully presented dishes. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be back.
The restaurant is located in Lodi's main square under the arcades. It's very large, with a bar and pastry shop in front and the restaurant further along. We tried the restaurant and had a great time. We tried three different first courses, all very good, and the desserts were equally as good. The waiters were friendly. The kitchen is partly open to the public.
Great coffee and croissant for breakfast... cool drinks through the day and a fantastic pizza last night... all with amazing service and awesome location... 👏👏👏👏
19.07.22 Latest visit: After our dinner here about a month ago, I knew I would be back to try those mouthwatering pizzas. Got our tastebuds singing with a wonderful appetiser that came highly recommended by our waitstaff. Fiori di zucca farciti di ricotta, pomodori secchi e basilico spuma al mandarino. I ❤️ the Code di gamberi e zucchine pizza. This time we are lucky enough to get a table on the patio and tuck into some excellent Italian food and sweets. If you are unsure with all the amazing options, charming staffs are always happy to recommend their specials. Service: cross over from being professional into next-level hospitable 👍🏼 1st Visit: A fabulous menu with amazing choices, makes it hard for the undecided to pick just one. Seated near to the kitchen, we were extremely tempted by the countless Pizzas rolling out by the service window, they must be a favourite for many of the patrons here. Poké Bowls seem to be having their trendy moment. The most diverse ingredients are presented together in a lavishly filled bowl. It is colourful, healthy, delicious and absolutely vital for me in summer weather. I love Caffè Nazionale's version: With Venere rice as base - the textures are crunchy with salty and sweet ingredients complimenting each other perfectly. Carbonara risotto, asparagus and duck speck - portion substantial, absolutely delectable and would convert rice sceptics into risotto lovers. The salmon salad is made to share, with generous slices of the fish and topped with loads of almonds. At the bar, you will see a gorgeous display of various sweet treats❤️. They have wonderful outdoor dining, keep in mind that bookings are strongly recommended.
High quality food, wine and beer. Very good patisserie.
The best coffee and sweets
This is one of my favorite places to get coffee and a sweet treat like macaroons or one of their wide selection of cakes! They also make fantastic pizza and have good apperitives. Young people love hanging outside at the tables overlooking Lodi's town square whereas the area inside at the back of the restaurant is classy - perfect for an Italian dinner.
Nice sun on the outdoor tables in the early morning. Spacious inside with great options. Low tables. High tables. Booths. Coffee is fine. You are paying for the ambiance. Disconcerting and annoying to be asked for money as soon as you are served at your table. Most people find this understandably annoying but I get it. Music not too loud which is great. Restaurant is affordable and good quality for the price.
Awesome place, kind service
Fakely luxurious. A bit overpriced. Not very friendly. Hadn't been in this place since childhood; we went in on a Friday afternoon for a coffee/tea. It wasn't crowded; there were a few open tables and were quickly seated. 20 min later, we walked out because the only server had utterly ignored us and didn't care to serve us at all...
You enter this corridor-like bar, expecting to be escorted to a table and told, "Wait a minute, I'll see if there's a table for two." But no. You stand there, frozen in place, and the waiters look at you like you're an alien. You ask if you can sit, but you don't know where because you can't see the place from where you're standing. They say, "Oh yes, sit wherever there's room," and go back to ignoring you. You walk, but there's no room. We reach the end, a second room, and we see a table for two, but there's a sign saying, "Please wait to be escorted to your table." We, being civilians, stop. Waiters pass by, and we, still aliens. Finally, someone asks us what we're waiting for. We point to the sign, and the waiter is shocked, as if we'd placed the sign ourselves. "Oh no, go back, it's dinner time here soon." Left to our own devices, we retrace our steps, already determined to leave, but it's a mirage! A free table. We sit there, obviously no menu. The counter is full of desserts. We saw them as we passed, but we don't know what they are or how much they cost. First they tell you to wait at the table to order, then if you want to know what the desserts are, you have to get up and go to the counter. The counter where they'd sent you to your table five minutes earlier. I just wanted to sit down and have a cappuccino and a pastry without any worries. I'm already fed up. We ask to pay and are told they don't have a portable debit card and to give them the card. It's a terrible request, but it gets ridiculous when they show up at our table with the portable debit card because the card requires a PIN. The Nazionale is a historic place in Lodi, but having been there for decades doesn't give you the right to be sloppy. Nice atmosphere, probably good desserts, but service needs updating.
I went to the Nazionale in Lodi today with five of my friends, and unfortunately, our experience wasn't a positive one. However, I want to start with a positive note: the first waiter who served us, a young man with round glasses, was truly friendly and kind. A very pleasant initial welcome. We ordered five cocktails and an aperitif, but the accompaniments were truly meager: just two small pizzas and a tiny basket of chips, completely insufficient for five people. The prices are average: €6 for non-alcoholic drinks and €9 for an alcoholic cocktail. The situation worsened when another waiter, in a decidedly arrogant manner, informed us that we couldn't pay separately, but that the bill had to be paid together. His tone was unprofessional and almost aggressive, to the point of telling us he would call the owner because he "didn't know what to tell us." We asked the first waiter, the kind one, for clarification, and he explained clearly and apologized, telling us that separate payments were only for the restaurant. At the register, even the older gentleman who greeted us was rude, telling us that "we needed to explain ourselves better," even though the situation was already quite clear. Furthermore, the wait was long for a simple order like five drinks and a few pizzas. In conclusion, our experience was very disappointing, especially due to the rudeness of the staff and the lack of transparency in the payment process. I do not recommend it.
Food is alright but way too expensive. Terrible service, got screamed at, servers make no efforts for tourists. The only things that’s remotely alright in this establishment is a server called Louis. We got scammed out of our money, payed for tap water and got pressured by an unkind woman into paying said water when we didn’t want to. This place is an obvious tourist scam. We were moved from our seats into an awkward spot next to the service area by the same aggressive woman. Avoid at all costs, best to eat dog poop than having to walk into that place. TOURIST SCAM!!!
