Made a reservation here for the first time and we could not have chosen better. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Very clean and tidy restaurant. The lamb chop starter was devine. Fresh made poppadoms were still warm. The mains were just as good all washed down with Kingfisher and Cobra. Would I recommend - in a heartbeat. Would I return... certainly will do. Thank you guys!
I recently visited Applebee’s with friends and had such a lovely experience. We originally booked a table for two, but when a couple of friends decided to join us last minute, the team kindly accommodated us without any fuss, which we really appreciated. From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely looked after. Even though it was a busy Monday night, the atmosphere was buzzing and welcoming. We loved the vibe straight away, lively but still relaxed. Our waiter, Ubert, was absolutely fantastic. He truly stood out and left a lasting impression on me personally. You could really see how much he cares about the guests and the overall experience. His service made the evening even more special. We ordered the fish and chips, seafood skewer, and broccoli. The portions were very generous and everything was delicious, fresh, well-cooked, and full of flavour. Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for dessert, but that just gives us a reason to come back! We’ll definitely be returning, for the food, the atmosphere, and especially the personal, attentive service. Highly recommend.
Just had a wonderful dinner at Applebee’s. It was a special 10th birthday menu, with wines or nonalcoholic drinks. Loved the vibrant buzzy atmosphere, although it was a bit noisy at times, and the front of house team were a joy. My mate enjoyed her wines and I loved my nonalcoholic options. Shame more places don’t put the effort in to zero alcohol options, the world is changing. Food started with beef tartar in an oyster emulsion, very tasty, although the crab rarebit took the prize for sheer moreishness. Next came a plump scallop in its shell topped with pancetta and cheddar crumbs. As good as it sounds, The main was a lobster and mussel risotto with generous amounts of lobster with the flavour enhanced by the lobster bisque it was cooked in. Then finally, a pavlova with sticky toffee pudding ice cream. Thanks for a wonderful evening, can see why you’ve survived for 10 years
Wanted to go here for many years and finally made it last Friday for lunch. Sat on the high-stools, a great people watching vantage point looking out into Borough Market. Possibly the best Marinière sauce I’ve ever had with mussels; delicious seafood skewers; a wickedly sweet toffee desert and a wonderful, wonderful trifle. The seaweed butter pictured could have possibly done with a bit more flavour, but that may just be my palette. Impressed by the sharp focus on the provenance of the fish. W/C very clean and tidy also, which is always nice to find! We were served by Grace 🇨🇦 who was fabulous throughout. Thank you! Will definitely be back.
Lovely restaurant for fish and seafood in the buzzing area of borough market. Our waitress, Megan had lots of great recommendations, especially for wine pairings with the food. We loved the oysters and the crab croquettes as starters. The stuffed seabream with curry sauce was really delicious and felt like an elevated fish and chips experience.
I had a lovely time at Applebee’s! Our food was delicious and the service was just perfect. For our mains, we had the monkfish and the Dover sole and they were both really tasty! Watching the chefs working in the open kitchen while dining added so much to the experience - next time I’ll ask for a table right by them to enjoy the theatre from closer!
A Borough Market Institute Lovely Seafood 🐟 restaurant, buzzing, attentive service...the food is yummy 😋 I sat at the counter and watched all the action...it was great, I had a terrible hangover...they cured me Hair of the dog....woof 🐕 Got here at 12pm when they opened, it was packed within 30 mins Don't come here if you're not going to eat fish...what's the point!
Amazing experience. Mouthwatering food, great drinks and very friendly service. Well recommended, we will come back for sure. Not sure why we haven't tried this place before as Borough Market is sort of our local area. If you like fish, seafood and good wine, this place is definite must. Scallops tartar absolutely delicious, perfect Monkfish and really good English White wine. If you never tried, you certainly should. Ah, and the courgette salad - amazing! Update: 6 months later still fantastic experience. We've popped in for lunch yesterday and had amazing time. Food was delicious (blackberry trifle to die for!) and staff made sure we're looked after. Special thank you to Agne for being professional, friendly and also very cheerful.
Just superb. We had a lovely family gathering and we could not have wished for a better experience. Ambience and service was first class, but the food was absolutely outstanding. Scallops amazingly fresh and flavoursome and the monkfish on the bone was to die for. Booked in again for next month and I’m already looking forward to it! Thank you Applebee’s! 😊
Lovely restaurant, excellent food and welcoming employees. Would highly recommend the crab croquettes, sea bass, grilled prawns, pasta linguine and the salted caramel pavlova (such a delicious twist). The restaurant has a great vibe to it and it is just off borough market which is always a fun spot to hang out.
This has quickly become one of my favourite restaurants in London! The food was all blooooody delicious, the staff were friendly and really helpful (I have some food intolerances and they were great with helping with this and made it no bother at all which was hugely appreciated), they also gave some recommendations on food and wine that were great too. Cocktails were lovely. Also a huge surprise was that the chips are unreal - I’m not joking, actually unreal… wasn’t expecting them to be any more than just chips but they were genuinely the best I have ever eaten in all my life (I’ve eaten a lot of chips). Seriously, you must order a side of chips - perfectly crispy whilst being soft and creamy inside… 🤤 madness. The terrace is great for a warm evening and the decor inside is beautifully cosy too (love the lighting!). Honestly can’t wait to come back and have already recommended to family! BANGIN’ 😋🐟♥️
Came in for a lunch today and had the most amazing time. Our waitress, Jemima, was incredibly attentive and helpful and her attitude was wholesome, the quality of service from her matched the standards of some michelin stars restaurants we have visited. Big, big thank you, you superstar! The food was great, pretty much all of the plates were made to very high standard, but the sea bass ceviche is certainly a standout. Incredible flavour and freshness with beautiful presentation too! The £1 oysters were super fresh, with good creaminess and minerality to them, although many of them had large shell pieces chipped in. I didn’t really mind - I know it’s a steal to get oysters this nice for this price and with the volume that must be shucked things might not be perfect - and they don’t need to be! Just be careful. The few things that were not so great is that the what seems like management (both gentlemen working during this shift) really didn’t upheld to the same standard as the waitresses did (and all three waitresses we interacted with were great). There was minimum care put by them when interacting with us, and we were outright ignored when we said goodbye when leaving - just received "a look”, not the best way to finish a meal, but oh well. Another thing was chefs outright eating while cooking - and I don’t mean tasting the food, straight up putting prawns in their mouth with hands and not washing them afterwards and calling for food runners with full mouth. Bit off putting when it’s open kitchen… Overall, it’s still a 5/5 - for food and Jemima and the sustainably they aim for when it comes to seafood!
Visited Applebees in February 2025 for dinner. We sat at the counter and had an absolutely fantastic meal. It was great to watch the food get cooked. The waiter staff were very attentive and informative on wine selection with our preferences on taste. We loved the look of almost all of the menu and ended up ordering a few items of each (starters and mains) sadly we then ended up being to full up to try the dessert menu :-( The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was great. It wasn’t too loud so you could hold a conversation without shouting. Will definitely go back and would recommend.
We came for Sunday lunch and had a nudge offer which was 5 courses and wine pairings. The food and service were excellent and the staff were extremely accommodating of my friend’s dietary requirements. I had the beef and oyster tartare, brown crab rarebit, hand dived Cornish scallop, lobster and prawn risotto, sticky toffee pavlova. The service overall was friendly and helpful.
Wonderful dinner celebrating my mums birthday. The food was so fresh and delicious, have been daydreaming about the sea bass all morning. The truffle dessert was fantastic. Our server was so friendly and knowledgable, and made some great recommendations with the wine. Will definitely be back!
My first time experience of scallops is with Applebee’s and it was actually delicious! Freshly sizzled out scallops drenched in sauce were delicious! Highly recommend to everyone whether it’s your first time trying it or a fan who would like to savour one more time! Staff is very friendly and their suggestions helped in choosing the best! Vicky is a shy young guy doing great at what he does!
I found this gem through a friend at uni. The experience was totally mind-blowing! Starting with a fresh and delicious raw salmon and tuna with just enough seasoning to make them taste better without hiding their natural flavours. It had been a while since last time I went out and ordered a risotto, after so many disappointments, but I gave it a go, and it was absolutely fantastic. Well-balanced flavours, everything cooked to perfection, and with such a great service, one could only recommend it and say that will be back soon! Ah, don't forget to check out the house cocktails, I had the elderflower spritz which was 👌 Thank you Maria for the great service, keep the good work up. See you soon :)
Extremely tasty steak tartare, I only intended to eat this but stayed for two more dishes. Wine choices were a little off, but the one I settled on was fantastic. The waiter was very accommodating considering I was on my own and also a good laugh.
I just had a birthday dinner with my parents here, and it was great. The food was delicious, and the service by the staff was excellent. They were very kind and accommodating to my parents who have mobility issues. I also loved the open kitchen design. we sat next to the chefs and got to watch them working the whole time. Top class place I will definitely eat here again. Thanks guys!
If you want to enjoy seafood that has been carefully prepared to elevate the umami of the ingredients, and you prefer not to stand while eating and making a mess, Applebee’s is the place for you. They have put a lot of thought into the menu, ensuring that the ingredients complement the seafood without overshadowing it. We especially loved the raw scallops and the sea bass — the dill and citrus enhanced the freshness of the scallops, while the sun-dried tomatoes paired perfectly with the crispy fish skin and tender meat. The staff members are also very friendly and humorous, making our dining experience truly enjoyable!
We decided to go after seeing an online post and the restaurant did not disappoint. The staff was really kind and attentive and food delicious. We went for the Seafood platter for 2, and we LOVED it. The seafood was fresh and the tinge of spicy in the sauce just spot on. The chunky chips and the mixed salad, also crisp(y) and refreshing. Lastly, we could not leave without trying desert, and the Tiramisu was just amazing ❤️ A 10/10 Experience.
We weren’t specifically looking to eat here but just happen to stumble across it. So glad we. Everything was great from our waiter to food and atmosphere. The scallops and fish and chips were my favorite but the other dishes we ordered was good as well.
Great place in Borough Market. The fish and chips is amazing, the plate enormous, could be shared by two people. The waiters are attentive and well mannered. An oasis in the chaos of the market.
Another incredible meal at Applebees. This restaurant has quickly become one of my favourite spots in London. Grace was very knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. Sandrige Bacchus was a delight by the Btl. Food incredible as per usual, full of depth and love how it’s evolving as time goes on. Very special spot!
First time visiting for some drinks one night and then came back again for food another day. Food is cooked and presented to highest quality. Open kitchen plan allows you to watch the food being made. Manager Marco made us feel welcome and front of house Agne kept a close eye on us all evening and was very friendly and found time for a quick chat. Bartender Krasimir was a great company throughout the time we spent at the bar area. He also made an amazing espresso martini!
First time at Applebees and is now officially one of my favourite restaurants! We went during to being gifted a voucher for Christmas. The food was just superb! Pranks to start followed by the seafood tagliolinni. My husband had the scallops followed by lobster and chips. We didn’t want it to end! We’ll be back x
Remarkable food. 🤩🤩 The fresh oysters are excellent. The Dover sole fish is crispy on the skin and tender in flesh. Salad in pesto sauce is refreshing and light. Love the freshness and natural ingredients used to make the dishes. Chefs must be applauded. 😊🥰🤩😍
Food was delicious here. The tuna steak in particular was exquisite. The inside is nice as well, quite cosy. Service was good but we had to chase them up for seats and service so doesn't get the full five stars, but no complaints outside of that. A good seafood restaurant overall.
I only had a moment to sit unfortunately, but this was hands down the best fish and chips I've ever had. The staff was incredibly kind and friendly.
Lunch today was excellent. The john Dory special with butter, lemon & caper sauce was exquisite & perfectly cooked as was the hake. Crab croquettes & brown crab rarebit which we shared were excellent. One of the best meals we've had in sometime.
Came here for the 25th anniversary menu. The vibe is cosy and intimate with an open kitchen. The service was excellent, with a complimentary glass of fizz as it was my birthday. The food was delicious and well thought out and the wine was great. The man (who seemed like the manager) went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Will definitely be back.
Disclaimer, I am big fan of this restaurant! The good stuff : The mussels - I say no more on that! Nice wine selection! The grilled sea bass was lovely! Lots of flavours, looked really good as you can see, and decent portion! The chorizo and monk fish skewer was also really good - although a tad dryer than I’d have liked it to be! The red cabbage slaw that comes with it is a good combination of texture and flavour! I’ll have that again soon 😊 The staff were very nice and I like this restaurant, I keep coming back for more! The not so good stuff : (none at the mo)
We were lucky to get a nice table where we could eat and people watch just by walking in. We really enjoyed the cocktails, the food itself is good, however we had to wait over an hour for it due to some sort of kitchen error. Sadly the food was not necessarily worth that long wait. The restaurant did give a complimentary dessert which made things a little better.
Booked to celebrate a birthday and chose the set menu. They didn't have it printed so staff had to recite it. Sadly it turns out it's one of the restaurants that don't incl potato or veg with the main course (at least not in a "set" menu) and the waitress didn't suggest any side dishes when we ordered. Do they expect people to eat just fish and sauce? Luckily it didn't take long for the chips to come after it was ordered. Also no special gesture or happy birthday despite it being marked on the booking. Service was pleasant enough otherwise.
Came for Valentine's lunch and was a bit disappointed to be honest, especially given all their social marketing. Front of House was not very professional. He took us to our table, made us wait, standing, explained the table duration, menus etc... yes whilst we were standing, and thenhad me back out so he could walk past without going around back of the tables, it was weird, I know it is a cosy restaurant but surely the etiquette would be to seat patrons first and comfortably! Anyway starters were ok, weren't asked about allergies. Crab Croquettes were more cheese than Crab but fine for the price, Scallops with herb topping were ok but arrived less than warm. Unsure of it was because it was a busy service or if they were supposed to be like that. Seafood tagliolini was bland, I had to add salt, which is obviously a big no no, it felt like they had diluted the sauce too much, seafood selection & pasta was ok but really nothing to shout about, I think I was expecting a more Bouillabaisse type sauce or soup. The best dish was the Dover sole. The main did not come with sides so we ordered their chunky chips, which were good. I had been wanting to try for a long time since it has recently bombarded social media with ads promoting their lunch deal, which by the way you cannot find any info about, the link clicks to their website and no extra info, yet their ads still run. Please remove them or improve the information about the lunch offer to avoid disappointment and confusion. (Attached are photos of their Instagram and website).
The service was top notch. Not only were the waiting staff delightful, but the food came quickly. The music was brilliant, and the volume was suitable so we could chat over dinner. The menu wasn't extensive but I had the salmon and it was ok. I ordered a side of chips which was freshly fried so I thoroughly enjoyed it. We also had dessert
Here for a business lunch, I ordered the crab croquettes followed by the grilled monkfish and chips. The croquettes were definitely the highlight, full of flavour and beautifully cooked. Unfortunately, the main course didn’t quite match up. The monkfish was slightly overcooked, and the chips were disappointing, clearly overdone to the point of being rock hard. I considered sending it back, but didn’t want to make a scene given the business setting.
Disappointing Experience Despite High Expectations We chose this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and, unfortunately, left quite disappointed. While we had high hopes, several aspects of the evening fell short. The food itself was average - not bad, but certainly not memorable. The wine was of good quality, but sadly served too warm, which took away from the experience. We also had to request new glasses and cutlery as the ones initially provided were not clean, and surprisingly, the waiter made no apology for the inconvenience. We were seated at the counter by the open kitchen, which offered a front-row view of the food preparation - a feature that should have been a highlight, but ended up being quite concerning. Neither of the chefs washed their hands with soap, even after cigarette breaks. One of them - the grill chef - had a visibly bleeding cut that was left uncovered, and he repeatedly wiped sweat with a kitchen towel that he also used to handle pans and plates. He was also seen eating his own food while cooking, all right in front of us. Service-wise, we were overlooked in favor of a table that was seated after us, which added to the sense of disorganization. It’s a shame, as the venue itself has potential and could be a standout spot with the right attention to hygiene, service, and detail. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we won’t be returning.
Ordered a fish finger sandwich from the borough market and halfway through eating it, noticed that the lettuce was riddled with bugs. Thought it may have just been 1 or 2 in the lettuce but then a huge one crawled over the top of the bread on the other half of the sandwich. Girl next to me ordered the same, she looker through hers and it was the exact same. I am 6 months pregnant and ate half of it before I noticed, so god knows what sort of sickness I am in for! No sort of apology from them either, just took sandwich from me and started making another, to which I said I wanted a refund instead. Not a nice experience at all
