Best Sunday roast in East London. Not only roast but brunch aswel before 1pm! How do they do it? Chefs have definitely got some skills, if only the service was on par with the cooking...

We went there for Saturday brunch. Atmosphere is really nice, great vibe. Avocado eggs were really good, less so the burger. The latte was delicious. Cocktails were also good although a bit pricy at an average of about £9-9.50.

I just love this place. One of the few places in east London that serves an amazing brunch without it being jam-packed on a Saturday morning. The beef hash and brioche served with aubergine jam, chorizo and fried egg is particularly amaaaaaaaazing. It also helps that the coffee is excellent - every time.

I had a Time Out offer for three courses and a glass of prosecco. Very good value deal! We were looked after very well, hospitality was great, I would definitely return again. I had the mushroom and smoked bone marrow starter on toast. The pork belly main was delicious, crispy enough to get nice texture contrasted by the greens and beans. The dessert croissant pudding - simple and decadent. There was nothing to complain about the meal, it was delicious well cooked, well presented food. We had cocktails after the meal, nice range to choose from. Everyone working there are very friendly and welcoming.

Awesome space... urban and industrial with a careful selection of some great plants! Even more awesome food, had the salt beef hash and was incredibly impressed. My friend had the poached eggs with sumac hollandaise - which was brilliant too. Then had the croissant French toast which was really delicious - not too heavy or sweet, thinking about it makes me want to go back. Also the coffee martini was 💯

I love the brunch here. Prices are good for the area, also not too busy like some other places on the weekend. The food was delicious. The whole place has a really nice feel to it, great decor, fantastic coffee. Would return here again and again.

Great location, service, food and experience overall. The design is simple yet beautiful and to a high finish. All food is of great quality and well prepared. The staff would have to be the icing on the cake though as they are professional yet funny and know how to handle their clients depending one whether they are up for a chat or just want to be served. They also give great and honest recommendations so I'd encourage you to ask your waiter what they'd have. Cocktail also good. All-round charming place to go for brunch or dinner and I'd say a good place for date night/ a first date, also. Only downside is that it's not too light on the wallet but as with many other things in life you'll have to pay for good quality.

Beagle is my favourite restaurant in London. For me the food is as good, if not better than some of the best restaurants in town but at half the price. I also especially like the decor and interior design, classy and not to fussy, it has a lovely outside area and bar and the dinning area is adorned with mid-century furniture and perfectly lit. The staff are always attentive, have a good understanding of the menu and are chatty when you want them to be but not overbearing. All in all I would recommend Beagle over and above the likes of its counter parts and the more expensive dinning experiences in London. I will be back very soon.

Fantastic place. Beautiful architecture. Lovely design. Great seasonal british menu - one of those places where you could easily order anything on the menu. Very friendly service - she even seemed to know the wine list, which is rare! Will return for sure...

Beagle starts weekend brunch at 11 and it runs until 3 (something that lots of other London brunch menus should take note of), so it was already a winner in my book. I'd booked in advance and would recommend doing so, as although pretty quiet at 12pm, it packed up quickly. I had the eggs, bacon and hash which is the most expensive dish on the menu at £11, but it was completely worth it – the eggs were perfectly poached with a wonderfully bright yellow yolk. After we finished, my table was left alone to nurse our coffees and chat, just what you want to do at brunch. I'm looking forward to summer to utilize their outdoor tables.

Stunning place - all high ceilings, open brickwork, filament lights and sun-soaked benches outside - matched by top-notch drinks. The cocktail list is unusual and very tempting; my "Pine" was pine-infused gin, ginseng, and soda wine and it was gorgeous. Nothing was too much trouble for our charming waitress, who advised us brilliantly on drinks and even bought custom toppings for the martinis on the table next to us. Prices make this more special-occasion than everyday (beware service charges; our two cocktails were just under £20 including service) but I can't wait to come back to try out the food.

Thanks for taking the time to give us such constructive feedback. I know that Conor, our General Manager, has been in touch with you directly. I'm obviously very disappointed to read that you didn't enjoy your food, and I know Conor felt frustrated that he hadn't picked up on your lack of enjoyment when he visited your table through the dinner. I agree the 'computer says no' style answer is just an awful one to give, whether the tills switch over or not. I can only apologise that this was so inelegantly handled. However, I do feel we're clear and upfront about our prix fixe menu and orders into the kitchen by 7pm. We offer a great value 3 course dinner, which isn't restricted to one or two dishes but allows choice from the whole menu, and in return we ask customers to order earlier in the evening, when the restaurant is quieter. I feel it's clearly worded, in the same size font as the deal itself, on both the website and the menu. Even after 11 years in business we still want everyone to walk out of Bistrotheque loving their experience and when that doesn't happen we kick ourselves. Again I'd like to thank you for your detailed feedback because there is a lot that we can takeaway from it to help us improve and we can only apologise that we didn't meet your expectations

Quite possibly my favourite restaurant in East London. The food, interior and service were all excellent. I first came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Two of us shared a huge cassoulet from the specials menu and it was delicious. Because it was so big we took around half of it home. Desserts were ok, not amazing. Also, the beers are all local and available on draught which means I intend on revisiting just for the bar and to try out the cocktail menu.

This place has some incredible food and great specials. The guys behind the bar also knock up some great cocktails. Also, the venue is in the railways arches, which is a nice touch.

Lovely place for a Friday night dinner. The place is separated between the pub/bar area and the restaurant area. Works really well. Food is delicious.

Nice place for brunch. My food and drink were both cold but it didn't bother me much as they were both delicious. Really liked the interior. Will be back soon.

Came specifically for a sunday roast... signs outside mentioned the sunday roast. Yet when seated, the menu was something different... Apparently a new chef. They should really change the website. Food selection did not appear to have much direction, I had thought Beagle was about modern british food... but this definitely wasn't that. Reasonably priced dishes. so far, all bad... but what we had was good, sometimes exceptional. Incredible caramelisation on the pork bites. Easily the dish of the day and largely responsible for pushing this from 3 to 4 stars. They are that good. merguez sausage with chorizo beans and jerk chicken were enjoyable but forgettable, the skin on the chicken being particularly floppy and slimy. The meat was juicy and flavourful though. dessert of chocolate mouse with peanut and olive oil was a great combo. The croissant pudding with grilled apricots was delightful despite it's weird plating. If only there were some crunchy caramelised edges it would have gone from superb to incredible. Drinks a bit expensive for what they are.

Nice and stylish place for a drink. I've not had food here yet, but I have a feeling I will be back...

I've been meaning to visit Beagle ever since it opened, mainly because the space looks beautiful. Located under the railway arches by Hoxton station, the interior is elegant and edgy with the original brick walls and industrial lighting. The outdoor space looks gorgeous and I have envied the diners at Beagle many times this summer, passing by on my way to the station. A few bad reviews from friends put me off visiting, mainly they were complaining about poor value of quality versus prices. Then I discovered Beagle has a fantastic brunch menu, so I though it was the perfect way to visit, without spending too much. I easily found a table without having to book in advance. The service was attentive without being too intrusive. The atmosphere was as lovely inside as it looks on the outside. Now, the food! I ordered Cinnamon French Toast with fresh berries and creme fraiche and I loved it. The toast was covered in sugar and a bit dry, but it worked well when paired with the fruit and cream. The price was fair and the portion was abundant. I don't drink, but I was impressed by the cocktail list, so that's something to keep in mind if you like a Bloody Mary with your brunch. We spent a few hours chatting and relaxing, without feeling the need to rush or leave the table, which is very nice on a lazy Sunday. Definitely recommended a visit!

Only been for their Sunday Night Jazz - so can't comment on the food but this was excellent. Live jazz and £5 cocktails after 7pm every Sunday. £5 for some expertly made cocktails such as a Sazerac. A great way to unwind before the start of the week!

K

Nice selection of cocktails. Quite posh place though...so don't expect low prices. I didn't really like the waitress who was probably new therefore slow and not confident at all. She wasted so much bear trying to get rid of the foam she was constantly creating. Ridiculous!

T
Tarek Cheaib

Food delicious. Never had better scrambled eggs, probably in my life. Sourdough was grilled with a little oil and burnt just the right amount to accentuate the taste of the eggs. Coffee was good but orange juice came with ice (which is an no no according to a local juice maker - and takes juice space). Will be back for the eggs 😳 I blended perfectly in the decor: wood, brass minimalistic lamps, bricks and more wood and plants

Dining at Beagle was a delicious experience. A good spot for hipster spotting, drinking al fresco and filling up your tummy. The service was a little slow (opening week technical hitches perhaps) but very friendly and helpful. We sampled the whole desert menu, I recommend you do the same!

Lovely Food at a very reasonable price.

This restaurant is composed of a bar and a cafe, the cafe close around 5 pm. The restaurant is nice for a hangout with friends. I ordered a glass of Sangria of GBP 5.00, taste good, but the proportion is a big stingy.

Not really my part of town but it's an interesting place to eat. Food was good, service was relaxed but competent. It's a bit on the pricey side maybe but overall we had an enjoyable meal.

Just out the back entrance of the Geffrye Museum in Shoreditch is Beagle London. Since 2013, Beagle has offered the best of British cooking in an area better known for its Vietnamese restaurants. The namesake of the restaurant is the old Beagle steamer that used to run on the tracks now used by the London Overground. A fitting name, for if it were still running today you could be outside of Beagle in a matter of minutes given the handy location of the restaurant beside Hoxton station.

You should expect to pay £9+ for a brunch dish which does seem a lot but from what I have experienced the dishes are well crafted and tasty.

Very nice place for a brunch. Scrambled eggs were delicious. Service is a little bit slow but the place is relaxing.

Delicious food though relatively pricey. On a good day the service is good, though never too speedy. Weekend service however is often achingly slow.

Despite looking similar to other Shoreditch establishments in terms of decor (industrial modern with exposed brick, steel, etc.), Beagle really surprised me with its creative and tasty dishes. I recommend the asparagus to start with and then the ravioli or pork sausage with lentils as main. Add the sunny porch to the mix and you've got a brilliant way to start your Sunday!

One of the most tasty and filling stops on the FEAST Eatathon was Beagle. To be honest, this was a completely new one for me and I didn't realise it was a proper restaurant and not a new food stall. Beagle serves up British classics with their own twist. In this case, we had grilled lamb ribs and buttermilk fried wild rabbit. I admit, it was a toss up for me as to which one to go for, but the ribs looked so delicious (and I'm a sucker for any food I can hold in my hands and tear into with my teeth) so they won out. For £4, you get 4-5 massive ribs almost overloaded with meat. I'm used to beef ribs and been known to find my way around a baby back rack of pork ribs, but lamb was a new one. To be honest, and I'm a little ashamed of this, I didn't even know lamb ribs existed! Yet lamb lends itself perfectly to being grilled on the BBQ with the natural pungent and slightly spicy flavour of the tender meat working well with a smoky charred crust from being on the open flame. In fact, the meat was so tasty I barely touched the sauces (a green mint and chilli mix and a creamy mustard) despite the fact they both complemented the ribs. The staff working the booth were friendly and I do wish I had a chance to talk to them but I was dragged away by my friends to the Patty & Bun stall. Next time, I'll definitely be trying the rabbit or whatever new dish they whip up. Needless to say, Beagle, you've made a believer out of me in that British food still has some surprises in store.

Modern British restaurant somewhat in the vein of St. John. The vegetarian option was a dish of chickpeas and aubergine which was OK but I'm not sure it really justified the price, particularly in this part of London. It was the sort of dish you might expect as a mezze in a Middle Eastern restaurant where it would be half the price - but there you'd have five other things too. Not really a complete meal by itself. Service was a bit surly. Left feeling a bit dissatisfied.

Loved the decor and the place! The food was good but some things had too much salt (e.g. fries). Overall, a good choice for a Friday evening date or night out with some friends!

Took a long time to be seated and in the end we were offered to stay at the temporary table we had and be served there. The coffee was nice and the pancakes were pretty good. Nothing special though and looked very thrown together. The place has lots of plants and a nice interior. Best to book on the weekends. Not sure i'll rush back.

Rotten service but good food and nice atmosphere. If it hadn't started raining, we would not have stayed to see if they ever came to serve us at all. One lousy waitress came 10 minutes after being seated and simply put glasses on the table but no water, as all the other tables had. After another 10 minutes we were able to get the attention of another waitress to ask for water, but she didn't bother to ask for our orders until we asked her to take them. Getting the check was a similar story. Food was good, though.

H
Harry Fellerman

Lovely atmosphere, if a bit loud sometimes. Problem was the steak dish for 2, was really a steak dish for one, which was particularly frustrating when paying £35. The steak really was delicious as were our starters, we just felt ripped off for a plate that could have easily been finished off by 1 person. Tag line: The £35 steak dish for 2 is really only a single portion of food, nice otherwise.

Swish little place under the arches near Hoxton Overground station. Very conveniently located to meet people. Drinks are a bit pricey. Brunch is good, but nothing ground breaking. The serving staff mean well but they seem to be a bit confused with organising seating and serving. However they are all very polite and cheerful. Overall , a bit style over substance but quite alright as a starting point for the evening.

Good food, not so great service. Took a seat early while the kitchen was still closed and asked to be notified when it opens, turns out it opened without anyone giving me a menu, and it took forever getting the servers' attention later.

Ok menu. Quite pricey. Tried to claim cream with dessert was 'clotted' when very clearly was off and inedible, cream was replaced after rest of dessert eaten and waitress did not seem to understand issue.

The dining scene in Hackney is really exploding, with something for every taste and age range - and Beagle brings a more "grown up" but still youthful proposition to the Hoxton area, otherwise infested by burger joints more apt for parties of teenagers (sorry). A former St.John's chef has taken over the kitchen under the Overground arches, and there's also a trendy cocktail bar and a cafe' attached. When weather allows, there is a lovely outdoor dining area. The food at Beagle is solid and unfussy, with seasonal ingredients and daily-changing specials. Wine list is interesting and I am partial to their Pecorino white from my region Abruzzo (Italy).

My husband and I went for our first Valentine's as a married couple. At the outset, all looked promising with good reviews and a set menu which we both liked the sound of. However, the experience was quite disappointing with the evening feeling rushed, portion sizes were far too small which weren't exactly what we were led to believe they were when we booked and just far too overpriced for what you got. The main of beef rib had a huge amount of fat and when we told the waiter, he just agreed and made no attempt to explain or offer us something extra to make up for this. We also saw another couple ordering from the normal menu as their food was totally different to the set Valentine's menu. There are so many other restaurants in the local area that are better value and a much higher quality. We certainly will not be going back!

Went for my boyfriend's birthday last night, just the 2 of us. Food good. Front of house somewhat lacking: 1. Lost the bottle of bubbly i'd pre-arranged for my table 2. Lost the sparklers i'd dropped off earlier then proceeded to ruin the surprise by coming to the table and saying they'd found them...although they never quite managed to get them on his dessert... Needs sorting out a bit

I wrote to the management to complain before going public and received no response. This only gets 1 star because we have eaten there at night and enjoyed it, but my lunch experience was so awful it deserves zero stars. Last Friday I went for a working lunch. Waited ages at the bar to order as the two waiters seemed run off their feet. The food then took around 25+ minutes to come out and I only ordered some veggie fritters. When the two fritters arrived they were both pitch black, and on both sides. I though perhaps it was flavoured like cajun blackened chicken, but when I tried to eat them, they just tasted like charcoal. It was so unpleasant. I then couldnt catch anyones attention as the two staff were again running off their feet. It seems the bar staff do drinks, food and clean tables during a busy lunch. When I was leaving I pointed out the burnt food to the waiter and said I hadnt eaten my lunch. He said that the fritters always come out looking like that but I know the pictures of the fritter dish on their website show a properly cooked food, far better looking that what I was served, I was really annoyed that I wasted to much time waiting to order and the wait for my lunch and leave the place totally starving with a taste of burnt food in my mouth. Its totally unacceptable too that the manager has not come back to me when I wrote to him directly. Waste of my time and money

B

Was really disappointed with this place. A few of us ordered a fritata and it was tiny, overpriced and quite tasteless. The accompanying salad was undressed and they sent out toast that was burnt, twice.

Nice place with a big cleaning problem. I really wanted to like this place. The staff was very nice and the place looked nice from outside but the dirtiness level was unbearable. And it's not just for a day; there were dozens of spider webs, I'm pretty sure the spiders didn't appear for the day.

F
Frances Longworth

Worst restaurant ever!! Booked a table weeks in advance and when we arrived we were told the kitchen was closed. Then we were told they had no lamb or beef. There were several other options on the menu which I pointed out. We were made to feel so uncomfortable that we decided to leave. Luis, who is apparently a manager needs to realise he is there to welcome customers, not turn them away!! I have never had such rude service, or rather lack of service. Did not get the opportunity to try the food.

D
DrDan D

Worst service I recall ever having in London. They make you wait forever and ignore you, then refuse to bring you the bread you ordered on the side because "the chef won't have it", even as you're starving because they took half an hour to pay you attention. Then the food is average at best and incredibly overpriced. Avoid this place.
