Opinions de Great Central Pub by Matt Fletcher London
Offering a very pleasant and decent atmosphere I find this place like a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of Marlebone area. Attentive and friendly service. Food is very well prepared and tasty, for us probably one of the better kitchens to be found in this city. Only one gripe, no contactless payment. Come on GC really! this is London and the year is 2019.
Absolutely first class and extremely friendly service from the team here on a Sunday afternoon. The roast is superb, the yorkies have to be seen to be believed and that gravy is world class. We were made to feel very welcome from start to finish, they allowed us to sit in comfort watching sport of the TV whilst chilling with a lovely bottle of red wine. Great value for money. Thanks to the whole team, they were a credit to a fantastic hotel.
I had the great privilege of dining here on Wednesday and met Matt Fletcher who gave me a guided tour of the main hotel and his kitchen. I was absolutely blown away by his hospitality, the food and the overall service in the pub. He is very passionate about the menu and ensuring the best, fresh cooked from scratch food is put on the plate for his customers and he spends the time in the restaurant talking with the customers about what he is doing. The kitchen is well organised and spotless (I'm quite fussy) the stock is brought in fresh each day..... so once it's gone, it's gone and everything is cooked to perfection 👌 100% recommend skipping past the main restaurant and visiting this gastro pub on the side, you won't be disappointed 😉 Hats off to Matt and his hardworking team 👏
Fantastic Sunday roast (Lamb Shank in my case) with all the trimmings and decadent gravy to boot! Service was very friendly and the space is a nice balance of posh/casual. Relaxed music in the background, live spirt on the TV and fireplace add to the atmosphere. A very cozy little hidden gem indeed. Thanks lilly, Anth and the rest of Chef Matt's motley team for a wonderful lazy Sunday treat.
So amazing food just like made in heaven! We are regular customer after we become a fan of them. We ordered 7 dishes recently all great taste, superb presentation, perfect ambience , location, and mood , freshly prepared food . We are visiting soon again . Thanks to chef Matt and his team.. 10/10.
Delicious food, great atmosphere and lovely service thank you!
Visited this grand establishment on a Saturday afternoon. Ignoring the very rude waiter that first tended our table of seven for a special birthday celebration, I will base my review on the impeccable service provided thereafter by the charming and delightful MICHEAL. So initially I wanted to leave but as we were there for a very special occasion I stayed... Micheal then took our order and was so helpful with suggestions. When we received our meal it was spot on, freshly cooked, beautifully presented and served hot. One member of our party was not happy with her meal. Micheal dealt with her issues perfectly with no fuss. I recommend this pub, it's very grand and the varied menu makes it difficult to choose... More vegetarian options would be helpful though. Thank you for making our dining experience at the Great Central a really MEMORABLE one Micheal!! Your service was top class. Bravo!!
Probably the best fish and chips in town! Come early as it gets sold out rapidly
We stayed at the Landmark for a week, and ended up at Great Central many times. Sometimes to eat, sometimes to just grab a drink. Over the multiple visits we tried most of the items on the menu, and everything was superb. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and Chef Fletcher himself came by regularly to check in and chat. My only mistake was waiting til the last night to try the Malaysian Curry- wow! I highly recommend it. Definitely worth checking out if you’re anywhere near the Landmark.
We popped in last minute for a quick dinner and had a lovely meal. The minute steak cooked to perfection and well seasoned. My partners pie of the day also delicious. Prompt service and attentive hosts. Would recommend!
Amazing experience and great place for our small wedding drinks. Was great to have Michael, the Pub Manager, who was super attentive and contributed to our great time for this special occasion. Special thanks to Stoyan (Security Manager) as well for making sure we have the best experience!
We come here all the time and the staff are lovely. Andrass and Lauren are always v accommodating. Between us we've probably had the whole menu but the duck starter and the lamb shoulder really stands out. The atmosphere is always warm and we can never wait to come back!
Didn’t try any food so really can’t comment but the atmosphere and ambience was amazing. Perfect for informal meetings/catch ups with clients
Went for dinner and drinks at the Great Central pub at the Landmark Hotel yesterday and what a superb, top quality experience from start to finish. Beautiful decor, we were greeted personally by Matt Fletcher on arrival which made us feel very welcome, excellently crafted cocktails, delicious tasty food (we both had the grilled pork chop with mash and amazing apple gravy and a crumble with perfect custard to finish). Every mouthful was delicious. Service was exemplary- attentive, professional and friendly. Great lively atmosphere combining the feel of a beautiful gastropub with the quality of a 5 star hotel. Highly recommended and I will be returning soon. Many thanks to Matt Fletcher and his team for creating such a wonderful experience.
This Pub is a jewel, we can highly recommend the sea food roast and the sea bass. The service was outrageous, thank you Matt & Team for this wonderful dinner experience 10/10.
This pub is absolutely fantastic The atmosphere is lively and welcoming with great music and a friendly crowd. The staff are attentive quick and always smiling which really adds to the experience. I tried a couple of their signature cocktails along with some appetizers and everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. The drinks were perfectly mixed and the food portions were generous. The overall vibe makes it a great place to hang out with friends enjoy a night out or just relax after a long day. Definitely a 5-star pub.
We had a wonderful pub dinner. The starters were great (pork belly and chicken skewers) and the lamb shank was so tender. Peter was exceptional at making us feel at home.
Casual, simple, no complicated, easy food
Expensive, but very nice place. Good for eating or just a coffee.
Great atmosphere and the best cocktails we have had in London. Kristina was best behind the bar and Aboli was great with the service.
Amazing service - everyone was so lovely. A special thanks to Daniel for his patience and attentiveness throughout the evening!
Great food and a lovely atmosphere but the menu doesn't change often if you stay on a regular basis
Excellent food and service. Full marks to Mdi, a real gent.
A beautiful hotel. Had a lovely meal but disappointed they do not have de caf coffee!
Best Sunday lunch
Good bar food with attentive service. Grand decor, which has an old boys' club feel. The atmosphere was relaxed, and service was attentive.
Classy bar that can be accessed inside the landmark or outside down some steps. Not too expensive considering the location. Looking at£5-£6 a beer. There is service to pay though. Snacks not bad, a tad pricey.
Nice cocktail. Not the most comfortable seats
Good restaurant. A bit loud but it's for a "cool" atmosphere.
A feast for the sense. delicious food and excellent service. highly recommended.
Nice cozy bar and grill. Great to meet for business before departing home.
Nice place not far from the train station, fancy setting with service to match.
Used for business meetings bit gives a great relaxed atmosphere
Nice dinner but wine not to my taste so could be better for price
Nice hotel pub in a really nice hotel. The staff were super friendly, free crisps on the table and while expensive it wasn't silly expensive
Straight out of the Landmark into the Great Central..A wonderful little gem of a place with a relaxed vibe and super attentive service by MD
some of the food is excellent, service not so much. we came when there was only one other group in & waited over 5 minutes to be seated. the staff were talking and goofing around even though they saw us waiting. they wouldn’t seat us at a table for 4 because there was only 2 of us despite the restaurant being empty. the servers seemed both standoffish and uncaring. they got our order wrong & it was difficult to tell anyone because of the lack of service. they started blowing all the candles out & repeatedly telling us they’re going to close well before closing time & just made us not want to be there. this may be because of our younger age, but regardless should not be happening to any of the guests staying there. despite the horrible service, the food was amazing. the fish and chips were a good portion and very tasty, probably the best i’ve had in london. the side salad was extremely small, and not worth £4. the pasta was very small considering the price. good flavor but nothing special. tempura prawns weren’t really tempura, but a thick tasteless batter. overall, some of the food is good, most of it’s overpriced, & poor service.
Expected exceedingly good pub grub but expectations not met. No wow factor for the price. Dishes are not elevated in either taste or presentation. Fri night & not busy so this is not yet a destination for food.
Could be better for such a top end spot. The Landmark Spa is top notch though.
Average service, attended for a semi social meeting, quiet when there.
Ok. Mediocre for the price, but the service is good. Better elsewhere. I had a sticky toffee pudding - the sauce was great, rich but not over the top, had had a great burnt toffee flavour, went great with the ice cream but the sponge was dry .
Arrogant, Rude and Fussy We booked a Festive Christmas Lunch and it was hard work, it felt like I was booking my engagement party and something super exciting was going to happen after all the fuss. The place is overrated and thinks arrogance is key for creating brand image. Not going back again. I booked for 8 people originally and roughly 2 weeks before the booking date, I called/emailed to extend the booking to 11 people. I was told Resturant was fully booked and then we were told since we were under 9 people so we need to pre order food and cancel original deposit and pay new deposit £40 per person for a meal of £49 per person. The Resturant on the day had atleast 16-18 empty places (4 small tables and 2 large tables) None of this information was available at the time of booking. Worst was telling the restaurant that I have shared the location with my group and it will be hard if they can’t accommodate the full group. This gave them power over the booking and now there were new deadlines for pre order, we were told these are special ingredients. At the end meal was made of salmon, artichoke soup, turkey, stuffing, regular vegetables, not sure why sourcing these ingredients was so difficult. The date for pre order was pre-poned as well. So much stress, so expectations were high. At the end the food was normal, table had no festive set up, not even a single candle, no, the place had a lone Christmas tree in one corner. For the price, the fuss there are better places in London that are reasonable and human towards paying customers. My group meets one a month, this is not a pub I will be going back to again. Leaving a restaurant should come with a feeling of warmth and happiness and not having to deal with the fuss.
very ordinary food in fact mains were only lukewarm! disappointed as was suppose to be a special lunch
Food was average, not great. Party of six, but could only split the bill by 4, not sure why.
One way to ruin our evening and celebration... While the decor was indeed outstanding the way we were overcharged will make sure that we won't be going back or recommending the venue to others. It was surprising to see how poorly pointing this out to the staff was handled, who still had the audacity to claim a fair bill was issued. Careful with this on your next visit - a real shame for the stunning décor of the hotel and restaurant.
