Hobson's Fish and Chips Restaurant

Deen was a great server! The food was also excellent! My fiancée is gluten free, so she was very excited to have their gluten free fish and chips. She loved hers, and I enjoyed my glutenous fish and chips that were also great! The chips were thick and crispy with good flavor. The cod was crispy on the outside with a very flaky and tasty inside. I definitely recommend getting fish and chips here, especially if you have a gluten allergy!

Had dinner at Hobson’s Fish & Chips Soho this September — absolutely delicious! Crispy fish, soft chips, and great service. The Albanian waiters is a plus at this restaurant. Paid £65 for 2 dishes and starter(prawns) not cheap not expensive. A must-try if you want a real London fish & chips experience. Be prepared to wait a bit for a table as it is full usually.

Lovely little fish n chip shop a stones throw from Tottenham Court Road station . Dean street exit exit . Kids menu is great if you just want a small portion and you have limited funds. Leaving room for a desert after . Jay was very sweet and attentive. Good service all round .

Great place, we had beer and classic cod fish and chips. Portions are large. We got full of just one plate. Highly recommend. Deen who served us was a great help!

Excellent fish and chips, a great pint to fit the London scene, and DO NOT SLEEP on the deep fried mars bar dessert. Deen was an excellent waiter, I would absolutely recommend this place!

I went there because I was looking for gluten free options and I really fancied Fish and chips. And OH MY GOD, not only they have GF and Vegan options their fish and chips are amazing, my mum had the normal fish and chips and said it was really good. I have a vegan and GF cheesecake my oh my it was soooo good. The service was amazing, staff were very friendly. So happy I found this restaurant I highly recommend

We’ve visited this place twice. The food was tast, our waiter - Jay was very friendly. On Saturday we had to wait for about 20 min to be seated, on Monday we didint have to wait

Never will want to missed out for their fish & chips whenever I’m in London! Always serving hot and fresh fish and their fries everything is so delicious. It goes well with a pint of Cider or beer! The price is pricey but what can I say when we are in Soho London!

The fish was very tender and not greasy at all. After finishing a whole piece, I still wanted more. The fries were a little dry. Deen's service was excellent and very thoughtful; he even proactively helped me connect to the Wi-Fi.

Food was great and we didn’t have to wait that long for our food. The fish was crisp and a good size and our server Deen was so friendly and helpful. The only downside is that the restaurant can get a bit loud if you are sitting inside.

I was in London for only 5hrs.. I did zero research, i just got hungry and googled fish and chips near me.. this place was 4 mins away.. the Haddock and Chips was fantastic.. light and crispy.. the only negative I could say would be they only give a tiny 1oz cup of tartar sauce.

Amazing service! We are visiting from Vienna and asked the waiter what we should check out (in the neighbourhood). He was very kind and told us multiple options. The food was amazing (vegan fish and chips!). Big recommendation.

Had a delicious meal here! We loved their fish and chips (we got the cod one) and salmon. They cook the fish really wonderfully, it just melts in your mouth. I’ll be honest, I’ve had better chips (they could’ve been more fried and a bit more salted) but overall super super happy with the food— we cleaned our plates! Best part: Deen was a kind server— so grateful for Deen’s patience and help. Will be back when in London and hope to visit one of their other locations as well!

We have been touring Europe for four days now and tried fish and chips at every location and this here is the best place to have the fish and chips! So fresh and huge portions. The service was so attentive and kind! Our taxi driver recommended this place and we are so thankful that he did.

Finding gluten free fish and chips is rare, having it be delicious and phenomenally crispy is rarer! They even had gluten free onion rings! We sat outside and were lucky to have Deen as our waiter. A great experience that I highly recommend (especially to fellow celiacs).

We had fish and chips and it was very good. There were four of us and the portions were generous. The staff were very friendly. We didn't have to wait long for a table, as the restaurant is busy around 3pm. We were served by Deen, who was very attentive to our orders and always available. We'll be back for dinner and recommend the magnificent curry sauce.

As someone with celiac disease, I was pretty impressed with this establishment. I got the onion rings and cod - gluten free of course. I added a ton of salt and lemon because it was a touch bland but the gal helping us out (Jay) was very kind.

We had cod and chips with a gherkin, which we absolutely loved. We were served by Deen, who was extremely friendly and attentive. The fish had a wonderfully crispy crust, and I found the combination of cider gherkin and chips to be perfect. The dish left a very positive impression, especially thanks to the freshness and quality of all the ingredients. Many thanks to Hobsons Fish and Chips and to Deen for a lovely dinner.

The cod was lightly battered, crispy, and not too oily but the seasoning is quite light. Highly recommend using the vinegar, lemon, or tartar sauce. The fishcake was a nice addition to split between the 2 of us.

Really small place, not easy to find a table. We tried the cod and the haddock, both were tasty although the batter was a tad flat and the fish itself lacked a bit of salt. It was however very juicy and with the proper crunch. Chips were good too. A friend of ours tried the vegan option and her comments were positive. Price wise, it was fairly priced considering the location.

The waiters and waitresses were very kind and helpful ✨ All the time when I travel, I'm excited about the food. I was already once in the UK, but I forgot that here they don't use any seasonings 🙈 (I'm from central Europe). The fish and the onion rings were gluten free and crunchy, but absolutely no taste, full of oil. I have a very sensitive palate, I love discovering good flavors around the world. My boyfriend like the normal fish, the fries are never crunchy. The apple crumble was something new for me, I liked it, but I believe there is a better version of it with a better gluten free biscuit.

Very average fish and chips. Fish was good, chips were cold and had no flavor. Mushy peas were gross. Best part of the meal was the tartar sauce. The lemon in my water was a nice touch.

Hobson’s is rated high as the go to place for fish and chips in London. My overall experience was ok. I ordered the classic fish and chips (cod). To be honest it was not quite tasty. The fish was soft and had a good crust. With a bit of vinegar and sauce it was good. But it cost 22,5£ so I expected better. Also the portion fish was not that big. The fries were enough on the other hand. My girlfriend ordered the 2 fish cakes with fries for 15£. This was very good. The fish cakes were soft from the inside and crunchy from the outside. Apart from that they were very tasty. Service was good and quick. Price for fish and chips overprices but it’s London.. though the fish cake was very good and a fair price.

Location Great, Food Not So Much This fish and chips shop, nestled right in the heart of Soho, Central London, certainly benefits from a prime location. The setting is everything you'd hope for in a city center experience: the atmosphere is buzzing, filled with the vibrant pulse of London life and surrounded by young, cheerful faces. It's a great spot for people-watching and soaking up the energy of the area. Unfortunately, the appeal ends when the food arrives. For a hefty £23 price tag (without a drink included), the standard of the fish and chips was deeply disappointing. The fish was noticeably undercooked, resulting in a texture that was unappetizingly "squashy" and watery. The batter lacked the necessary crispness, and the fish itself tasted damp, which is the antithesis of a properly prepared British classic. The portion size was quite small, which only amplified the feeling of poor value given the premium city center price. In short, while the location is fantastic and the surrounding atmosphere is everything you'd want, the core product—the fish and chips—simply doesn't meet expectations. You’re paying for the postcode, not the quality of the meal. Overall Verdict: Great location, poor value, and disappointing food quality. I'd recommend finding somewhere else for your traditional fish and chips fix.

I’d like to start this review by saying the food was great and service was good. One member of our group being GF had an awesome experience with the food. However, we sat in the back and had a birds eye view of the kitchen. During our visit I witnessed a few workers eating right in front of the kitchen then touching plates, a worker touching his mouth and nose. Then touching plates. Also witnessed a worker doing his hair in the kitchen beside the deep fryers no hair net. All very clear health violations. I did not bring this up to our group till after as it was pretty disgusting. Eating near the kitchen is a big no no. They should have a designated area to eat out of view of customers and clear of the kitchen. They were eating fries then grabbing paper towel to clean their hands, no hand washing. I don’t think they are trained to not do this as they didn’t even try to hide it from customers. I work in a kitchen and we have very strict health protocols, I witnessed many violations at this restaurant hence the 2 star review. I hope the owner cracks down on this.

My one star review is because of the value/price. Most outlets that offer fish AND chips on the menu, actually have chips as standard. Hobson’s gives you a choice without chips, which one can say provides options. But when you add chips, mashed peas, the price gets into the mid to high 20s per person. Granted this is Soho, where lease rentals are high. But in the mid 20s, I have more options. Since there were two of us, we took just the fish, and ordered chips for two as a side. This was cheaper but in hindsight, we could have gone with chips for one. We had a side order of mushed peas for one. The battered fish (cod, haddock) were fresh. They had ketchup, salt & vinegar on the table. With drinks, the meal came up to Pounds 57. At that overall cost for two, there were way better options.
