We stumbled upon this place after the match, buzzing off Nelson's winner and boozed up! We were drawn to the look and feel as well as the menu. The food was delightful- we started with scallops, aubergine and one other, rabbit perhaps...all of which were on point. Mains- lamb, pie and duck. The duck was well presented and a joy to eat. I tried the the other two...all good. Drinks hit the spot, I had countless old fashions. Service was attentive and friendly Decent atmosphere too...good music
We had a quiet dinner on Sunday night. I really like the atmosphere and deco in this place. Lights could be even more down for more cosy and intimate feel. We had a Nebbiolo wine and 3 course set menu in a great price. I enjoyed arancini, roast beef and apple tart. The highlight was cocktail- SPICY MARGARITA- it was delicious and we had 2! Amazing service from the waiter who also made those delicious cocktails! Great night thanks!
Went for work lunch. Was lovely and greeted well. Had a gap between some.of us due to layout as there 18 of us but was ok. Service was good but some people waited longer for food and drinks. They also serve normal rum and cokes not just wine and cocktails as we assumed via online. Lovely portion food and was really nice also xmas I gave most my food to colleagues but not this time fried salmon was fab and roast potatos and dessert was sticky toffee pudding...gigantic lol tasty. Wood go back again.
This is our safe spot for a good classic Sunday roast. We went multiple time and we will go again! Lovely arancini and squid (a couple of time was a bit chewy but generally is good) and amazing pork with crispy skin! It’s not the best one in the city that will blow your mind but it’s a good and safe option for a quiet and intimate brunch!
Lovely spot for Sunday roast in this quaint restaurant that looks and feels like you are dining in an old school 'orient express" style train carriage, from the moment you walk through the long inviting corridor to when you enter the dining area. Beautiful quaint interior design with wooden features.. A thoughtful layout combining a few small booths with leather seating and wooden table settings nicely spaced out. Low mood lighting, soulful music playing in the background creating such a relaxing ambience away from the hustle and bustle of upper street. I was fortunate to arrive just as the window booth seating was being vacated. So was able to people watch as I dined. Although it was very quiet, the service ftom the onset was impeccable, very friendly and attentive service from Sami throughout. Happy hour, select cocktail menu from 4-7pm. I had a gin, proscecco combo. I followed this with a delicious 2-course chicken Sunday roast. Moist pieces of corn fed chicken on the bone, yummy Yorkshire pud with seasonal veg and a side of cauliflower cheese and cranberry sauce. All nicely presented and good portions size. The gravy required a little seasoning, a touch of salt and pepper did the trick. The chocolate fondant was sweet and indulgent with a refreshing raspberry sorbet. I also had 2 glasses of Stellenboch Rose wine. A nice refreshing accompaniment to the dish. Aside from the excellently priced sunday roasts, all other items on the menu are so reasonably priced. I can highly recommend a visit to anyone if you want good quality food and drinks in a relaxing venue. It may look unassuming from the outside, but as soon as you enter and walk through the beautiful carriage like corridor you will be pleasantly surprised. I know I will definitely be back.
We had a fabulous evening on Saturday at Hoxley and Porter. Great vibe and delicious food for our annual Secret girlie Santa night 🎅🏾 🧑🏼🎄🎄 Us girls will definitely back. Andy the manager is great and really looked after us as always. Thank you so much 😊
Came on a Tuesday evening, it was very quiet but still pleasant. The interior is stunning, as if you have travelled back in time . The cocktail menu had a great choice of selection, pages separated by the base alcohol. The young bartender was very friendly and attentive, we asked him for recommendations and he asked questions to understand us more in order to recommend the best fit. The cocktails were very tasty. Definitely worth a visit!
Honestly, just went in for a little 1 or 2 drinks to catch up with two friends on Wednesday last week, we was given a table and the menu was dropped, bare in mind we only went in for a drink but once we saw the menu all of us mysteriously became instantly hungry, 3 courses for just over £20, £23 if I’m remembering correctly, Everything was amazing and well over what we all expected and I’m a chef, so I’m real funny about food, the service was impeccable, great drinks, the atmosphere and ambience was lovely, the bartender and the guy who served us (I’m sure he was the manager) both 10 out of 10, I have not one complaint
Popped in early evening for a roast. Great service, great food and good value. Don't change anything!
A Sunday roast gem.. enormously friendly staff. Nice classic music, yet audibly friendly for conversations.
Great cocktails. Different to most. Definitely will go back to try more of their cocktail menu!
The cocktails were fantastic, the set menu is an excellent deal with high quality food, and the atmosphere was cozy and romantic.
Great decor, relaxed atmosphere. (Sunday afternoon) good drinks, polite friendly staff. Will be back
Went for the Sunday Roast, the food was extremely good and at a very reasonable price, service was very good as well, will definitely return again.
Super nice and quiet pub. Good service great atmosphere
Josef and his team, Sam and Vlad, hosted our Daughter's wedding 5.6.25 They were absolutely brilliant, food was fantastic, atmosphere great and they were all so helpful. Thank you for making our day so special
Popped in for a roast dinner on Sunday, and had a pleasant experience. There was plenty of food on my plate, and it was a great price! I love the décor in this restaurant, and relaxing vibes.
Came here for a Sunday roast. Overall we enjoyed our meal here. £20 for two courses was much better value than most places. The starters we ordered - arancini and calamari were tasty and well sized. We ordered the beef and pork roasts. Serving size was very good. Lots to enjoy on the plate. The beef was very good, had a delicious taste and cooked just right. The trimmings were all cooked well, although would have preferred the potatoes more crispy. Gravy was a bit thin too. Cauliflower cheese was delicious, very rich and cheesy. The Yorkshire puddings also very well done. Service was good. Atmosphere somewhat lacking due to a very quiet day. But it didn’t take anything from the experience. Happy to recommend and we will be returning.
Went for the cocktail happy hour, a great atmosphere, definitely going again
Really delighted to have found this pub on a rainy Sunday with two toddlers. The staff couldn’t have done more for us, they were so attentive and welcoming. Food was great: excellent Sunday roast portions including lots of different condiments. Thoroughly good wine. All for a very reasonable price in a nice setting.
We hosted party here which included drinks and food for our guests and it was absolutely perfect. Communication excellent and Josef and his team went above and beyond to make sure it was right. Food is amazing actually, everyone was raving about it. I was of course expecting it to be very good but it exceeded expectations. Cocktails also fabulous. We hosted 40 people and p The overall price was very reasonable particularly for how high quality everything was. The bar itself is very beautiful, music was great, decor lighting everything contributed to a very fun yet elegant evening. Everyone had a blast and it felt like a very special evening. Loved!
Fab place for a relaxed Sunday roast with a bottle of wine! Staff are friendly and service impeccable!
Great place with incredible cocktails, Sam was a top barman! Will definitely come back
Manager was great when we turned up late on a Saturday, another bar in the area having taken money off us to book a table and then told us the table wasn't free due to a private event. They squeezed us in and paid lots of attention to us. Cocktails were fab, bar staff great at making recommendations. Really nice atmosphere too - a more sophisticated crowd then a lot of the other bars in the area.
The food at Hoxley and Porter blew me away, and it's an excellent roast to rival The Pig and Butcher down the street (known for its roasts). The interior is a sophisticated wood panelling, set out like an old drinking hole but with the air of a proper restaurant. The service we recieved was good, though not all to polished or personable (I think she was knew). The price was also really good, at around £20 for 2 courses including a huge roast, cauliflower cheese and a desert (or starter). I would highly recommend it here, certainly for roasts. It's a quiet calm spot away from the busyness of the high street.
I've been here 4 or 5 times and its got a lovely environment with great music. The first time I went a year or two ago it had great food and cocktails, but the last couple times the menu has changed and cocktails are not as nice as they used to be. The last time a group of us went we were told that we could not use the toilets because there was a private function. This was not acceptable as they should have been closed for the public if that was the case. We actually had 1 drink and left whereas we normally we stay for hours. Go back to how it used to be please!
Very good customer service and excellent staff. Generous food portion and wide range of drinks and cocktails. We have been there many times and really like the ambiance. Also, their food is really value for money particularly in this expensive part of London . Mushroom mushroom arancini with a pesto flavour sauce was very tasty. Pork belly with a very nice crackling around it was delicious and fresh.
The Sunday Roast was a plentiful plate of flavorful food. The service was great. Not the typical order at the bar pub arrangement, but actual table service. The staff was friendly. It smelled delicious as we were waiting for our food. It's a beautiful bar, quaint seating, and a welcoming environment. The place was hopping as we were leaving. We were pleased they were open and serving food when we arrived around 2:30.
We love this place because it has good cocktails for happy hour and no blaring music so you can have a conversation. The menu isn't great for dietary restrictions. You have to ask for it as it's not marked and there wasn't anything gluten free and vegan. The drinks and ambience made up for it though.
Made reservations for dinner at Hoxley and Porter and was not at all disappointed. We were kindly welcomed by the staff and given the choice of seating. We ate from their three course set menu for around £30pp. The food was incredible, good portion sizing and the cocktails packed a punch. I'd definitely recommend and plan to return again soon.
Really nice place with nice cocktails. When I was there it was a cool band playing, making the experience even better.
From the outside this does not look that special, but the inside is another story! Really nice attentive staff, balance between being too attentive and a bit OTT and being there just when you need them is just right. Menu is not extensive but is executed very well. Really good value for money. My only minor gripe is that my lamb shank could have done with being cooked a bit longer and slower. It should just fall off the bone.
We did the bottomless brunch, it was ok but service was slow on drinks and food was seriously mid. Needed more drinks.
The decoration and feel of the place is great and so are the drinks. Unfortunately the food and service are not. I ordered the sausage and mash and one of my sausage was raw (not undercooked) as it was red inside. The staff did not apologise or mention it again, perhaps showing this was a frequent occurrence.
Nice and trendy gastro with a speakeasy vibe. Took 10 mins to get seen by the waiter and get confirmation whether the set menu was all week and not weekends. Still don't get back to me but ordered anyway. Eventually got served a tasty Sauv Blanc and an average Pinot Noir. Had the calamari starter to share which partner thought was tasty but I felt there was a little bit too much salt . She had the courgette and goats cheese linguine while I had steak and chips medium rare. Felt everything was covered in a layer of salt but maybe my opinion. At the end of it they charged me for the set menu price which is incorrect on OpenTable but was a good thing. Would go back if they sorted out the service- need better direction
Absolutely disgraceful. Booked a table for last night and got confirmation email and everything and the place was closed when we arrived. New Year’s Eve ruined by them. I am sure it wasn’t hard to call a customer if something happened and you had to close on the day I can understand that things happen but without a notice is disrespectful and disappointing especially I have been there dining previously.
The worst roast I've had in London. Everything was microwaved, I wish this review had been here before we booked it for Sunday lunch.
