Tasty italian food in the centre of London. Ideal for groups.
Food was great and good service.
We had the pleasure of dining at Manicomio in the City, and let me tell you—it was an experience to remember! From the moment we stepped inside, the cozy yet stylish ambiance set the tone for an extraordinary evening. But what really made the night special was the impeccable service. The team at Manicomio didn’t just serve food; they curated an evening. Attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable, they made us feel like VIPs, walking us through the menu with genuine passion and spot-on recommendations. Now, onto the food… where do I even begin? The signature dish at Manicomio is undoubtedly the carbonara with pecorino, Tuscan guanciale and Parmesan. Other standouts include Lobster Linguine, Tomato, Chili & Basil; Grilled Pheasant Breast with Pancetta. For starters, the brutta and zucchini fries were an absolute dream—crispy perfection paired with bold flavours. Moving on to the mains, the seafood spaghetti was a symphony of fresh, vibrant ingredients, while the beef was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. And just when I thought it couldn’t get better, the desserts arrived, stealing the show with their artistry and indulgent flavours. Highly recommend if you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in the City!
My husband and I had our wedding dinner in the conservatory, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. The space looked beautiful, the food was absolutely delicious and complimented by all our guests, and the staff were incredibly professional, friendly, and attentive throughout the evening. We were also pleasantly surprised by how lovely the courtyard area was — it added a really special touch. It was a truly memorable evening, and we’re so grateful for the care and effort that went into making it perfect. We’d highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for an exceptional private dining experience in Chelsea. It is the perfect location after a Chelsea Old Town Hall wedding. We don’t have our pictures yet but the room looked amazing.
Great food, excellent service. I went on a monday, so it was not busy. Great mussels for the entrée, crab pasta for the main dish and chocolate mousse for dessert. All great options. Also, a short menu ensures all comes out fast and tasting good!
Great food, good service and staff is super attentive. Came here with my work colleagues. The vibe is good, relaxed and chill and they have a good setup. Little tricky to find if you haven’t been here before as the name hides under two massive trees but once you’re in, it’s great. Would highly recommend and definitely visit again.
Good place to have team lunch and gathering here
Went to Manicomio for a friend’s graduation lunch and absolutely loved it! The food was superb and the service top notch. Food came ontime and looked so so good! Definitely the best Tiger prawn spaghetti I’ve ever had! Oh they are so accommodating as well, I’m not a huge fan of linguine and they agreed to swap to spaghetti for me which I was so grateful for! Food is pricey but not overpriced! If you can afford it and you’re in the area, I’ll definitely recommend!
Amazing food, especially the chocolate delizia with peanut butter. Staff were friendly and let us enjoy a long lunch without interruption in the sunshine. Good wine selection by the glass.
Decent food, could have done with a wider variety of dinner choices though. Friendly staff and pretty, modern style venue.
Excellent food and attentive service. Arancini was a bit salty but the crab bruschetta was spot on. Gnocchi was super soft but never seen it cut into a perfect square like they do. Wines by the glass are great. Cafe on ground flr is a little too noisy but upstairs is perfect
Always a hit, especially the chicken milanese with Caesar salad. Delicious tiramisu : properly Italian . Great service and style, with lots of natural light - a hidden gem.
Amazing place, the best pasta (and Italian food) in London as well as exceptional quality wines! From my experience, great spot for business lunches, never let you down. This year hired the place for Christmas team party, not pricey at all (well under budget) and you get the whole upstairs to yourself. Strongly recommend. Will be back for sure. Couldn't be more thankful!
This is a very popular restaurant at lunchtime.I had a business meeting over lunch on the first floor and it was a good environment to hold one.I had the rabbit tagliatelle and it was good. My colleagues were also happy with their food. Service was good. The prices of the food are clearly displayed on the menu so there should not be any surprises when the bill comes.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Manicomio restaurant with a friend, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. From the delectable food to the exceptional service, every aspect of our visit exceeded expectations. First and foremost, the food at Manicomio was simply outstanding. We decided to indulge in their coffee and pasta offerings, and we were not disappointed. The pasta dishes were cooked to perfection, with flavors that danced harmoniously on our palates. Each bite was a delightful symphony of taste and texture, leaving us craving for more. The attention to detail in the preparation and presentation of the dishes was evident, showcasing the chef's expertise and passion for culinary excellence. What truly set Manicomio apart was the impeccable service. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made us feel welcomed from the moment we stepped in and catered to our every need throughout our three-hour visit. It was refreshing to experience such genuine warmth and professionalism, which added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience. Although the restaurant offers outside seating, we opted to sit inside due to the slightly chilly summer weather. The interior ambiance was cozy and inviting, with tasteful decor that complemented the overall dining experience. While I can imagine the outside seating being wonderful during warmer months, the comfortable indoor environment ensured we could fully savor our meal without any discomfort. In conclusion, Manicomio restaurant left a lasting impression on me with its remarkable food, exemplary service, and delightful atmosphere. Whether you're a coffee lover, a pasta enthusiast, or simply seeking a memorable culinary adventure, this establishment will surely exceed your expectations. I highly recommend paying a visit to Manicomio, as it embodies the perfect combination of gastronomic excellence and exceptional hospitality.
The service was exceptional! Mauro knocked it out of the park. The cocktails were made using fresh ingredients and were stronger than i expected which was great! My friends and I went there on a Thursday just after 7pm and it was nice and calm which was great as we were there to catch up. All the staff are extrrmely courteous and well mannered. The happy hour menu is fantastic. I highly recommend the bar as the staff members really make the experience amazing. I am definitely going back! :)
Very attentive service, beautiful food with lovely fresh flavours. We tried a mixture of pasta, meat and fish dishes and all were fantastic. Nice vegan options available too - no compromising on taste. All in all, a fantastic lunch choice whether with clients or colleagues alike.
What a lovely restaurant! The food was delicious (the best carbonara I’ve ever had) and the service was flawless (prompt and polite). Highly recommended!!
Very friendly atmosphere. Very good food.
Great restaurant hidden off Gresham Street. Sat in the upstairs restaurant. Great service. The Burrata was gorgeous. Had the monk fish milanese special, a lovely take on fish and chips. Washed down with a petit chablis. Thoroughly recommend for a good Italian meal.
Don’t tell anyone else about this hidden gem. Top floor is quieter and more intimate vs ground floor. Both great depending on group size. food excellent as is service. Great Italian wine list - my pick is the Taurasi.
Really lovely food and warm service. Few dishes were a touch expensive and the wine list is not exciting but all in all very good City venue
Went here last December 13th. I mistakenly reserve a table at the Chelsea branch, but the manager accommodated us with open arms and made us feel welcome even though we didn’t reserved a table at this restaurant. Staff were nice and professional, food is amazing and the place feels homey. I’ll surely come back here again. I don’t have the words to express how good this restaurant is. 10/10
Delicious food, wonderful service and an overall nice hidden spot
The staff was incredibly welcoming, and their genuine warmth made us feel right at home. They went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience for me and my friend. Since it was her 30th birthday, they seated us at the best table in the house and surprised us by adding “Happy Birthday” to our dessert, even treating us to the tiramisu on the house. The food was authentically Italian, perfectly complemented by their house wine, making us feel as if we were dining in Italy itself. I highly recommend this place!
They made my wife’s birthday very special, the food was fantastic and the service was one of the best I’ve ever had
I booked a table for 11, for a team dinner. The process was smooth from start to finish and the team were so accommodating and attentive to everything I asked for (square table, allergies, changing numbers last minute etc.). On the night, the team looked after us quietly but attentively. The food was fresh and well‑cooked, and the wines they suggested paired nicely. A reliable, easy option for a relaxed team dinner in the City - highly recommended!
My wife and I were staying overnight in London near St Pauls, and we wanted a nice restaurant for supper. After searching around the area beforehand, we landed on this place - interesting and unusual menu, good reviews, walkable-to location. We were not disappointed - indeed our expectations were exceeded, by the food and the service. We dined on a Friday evening. It was fairly quiet - most of their business happens during the busier times of the week while Londoners are working in this area. One other thing that, in my humble opinion, that sets this place apart for everywhere else I can think of is their open support (tent cards showing their pride on every table) for the UK-based eco-charity, Borneo Orangutan Survival. Having visited Borneo and met some of these marvellous apes myself some years ago, I know how important this is and am (STILL!) delighted that my fine-dining experience in central London was also helping vital conservation efforts on the other side of the world. We would certainly come here again.
Hands down one of the best long blacks I've had in a long time. The service and staff were really friendly and the breakfast granola bowl was also good. If they did a take out coffee service, I'd have probably walked back the next day for one and my hotel was nearly a mile away.
Wonderful service when we went for a Tuesday night dinner. Lovely vibe ups stairs (downstairs was empty on the night in question). Food was fantastic - shared a few small plates before having a pasta main. Cracking wine too. Looking forward to our next visit.
Basically, I have been going to Manicomio since it started as I used to work on Gresham St. Still my favourite place to go for a summer evening's drink or a morning coffee meeting. Staff are lovely and setting is lovely also. A classy quiet enclave in the heart of the city.
We had lunch on September 18th and were served by Valentin. He was wonderful, kind, attentive, and even spoke Spanish with my parents to make them feel comfortable. The food was all homemade and delicious, and Valentin’s service made the whole experience perfect. We’ll definitely be back.
Great Italian restaurant. I got steak and was great. Prices ok
Good breakfast meeting place in the City. Great service, team friendly and welcoming, good breakfast choices.
food and atmosphere is great so I'll go back again
The food is delicious and the potions sizes are decent. But please keep in mind that the menu is not very long, for example the options of pasta are limited. P.S. Service charges and "optional donations" are getting out of hand (not specific to just this place)
A very popular restaurant during lunchtime for takeaways and dine in too. I recommend the tuna and octopus as starters, especially the tuna which is a great sharing dish. As the main, I subject Monkfish, good potion and take was brilliant! The only thing I would say, book in advance! Downside of the whole experience would be that it’s slightly overpriced.
For starters you can never go wrong with the Zucchini fritti, honestly best i’ve had in London so far super crispy. Moving onto the Lobster linguine it was nice, but not worth the price in my opinion. Affogato to top it off, nothing but pure joy. Staff were very accommodating and the house white was a delight!
On entering I was sent upstairs to sit and the first thing I noticed was there was a strange smell, mustardy. Didn’t like it If it weren’t for the peculiar toxic smell I would’ve rated this restaurant five stars Glanced the menu. It was expensive I only had 50 minutes to spare so I ordered the chips only They were very lovely and stood out against all other chips. They were perfectly cooked giant chips, not oily or overcooked or anything Perfect! That’ll do for £6/7 Glad I popped in Recommended
For an expensive Italian place, it's justified to be really picky with everything. Food 4 stars, as my overall impression was good. I thoroughly enjoyed it all. The focaccia was slightly dry on the edges, probably because they're cut and left in the open or not covered properly. So some extra care needed there. The olive oil served with it however was outstanding. All the other dishes we ordered were lovely. The ambience of the restaurant was overall good. It was however cold, as I would feel a draft coming from the A/C. On asking to turn it off, I was told they can't. So I was left with feeling really cold for most of the time I was there. And because of this I'm giving it 4 stars. Also there's no proper place to hang you coats/bags.
Location is convenient. Good for business lunch.
Very nice luminous space with good food (I prefer eat-in food than take away) and coffees. Good for business meetings but not too formal for coffee/lunch with friends. They also serve cocktails and there are happy hours deals. You can seat in the more formal upstairs restaurants or downstairs in the bar / coffee area. I love their tiramisù and pasta options. Sep-2019 update: slow service.
Great food, staff initially struggled with the concept of non dairy milk. Had to wait until my tea was completely cold before they were able to source some oat milk.
Don’t be greedy… Why even bother setting up tables outside in WINTER if you don’t have enough heaters. I’m baffled at how people haven’t complained more about this. If you set up tables outside in winter you should have enough infrastructure to guard against the weather. Clearly greed has gotten the best out of a place with otherwise average food. Never coming here again with my work colleagues and recommending against it to everyone I know.
Get ready to be bled. That’s their business model. The place can be summarised in 3 “hyper” adjectives (rare qualities these days): hyper salty, hyper expensive, hyper grim. - hyper-salty: they add so much salt to the food to give it flavour, that the dead sea is now running out of salt. The mark of a good Italian chef is to NOT add too much salt, by the way… most Italian chefs would either laugh or cry at it. Personally, I cried … - hyper-expensive: the wines prices are insultingly expensive and likely to be the most expensive in London - for what they are. You can find the same wines between 30% and 50% cheaper, pretty much anywhere else in London. So simply avoid wine altogether… Also they don’t do lunch menus. They need to bleed you at all costs since you are more than happy to throw money out the window… - hyper-grim service: staff do not smile to clients… ever. As if it was painful to serve people, even when they smile at you. Also we were 6 on a table for 4: they obviously need to maximise space for such high prices in the first place. We barely had space to eat our food… What a place!
We ordered one burrata starter and one fried squid starter, we got the burrata starter and thought they were waiting to bring the fried squid, but then our mains turned up. So the server must have forgotten to put our squid through. We ordered the lobster pasta, it was a bit light on the lobster and the pasta sauce was salty. We got the pannacotta dessert, it was clumpy and honestly tasted off nothing. Like they forgot to put in whatever was supposed to favour it. I should have asked them to take it off the bill and remove the service charge but I didn't want to make a scene on my valentines date. Disappointed given the prices being charged.
Nice vibe but stupidly overpriced breakfast menu
The food was average but the disappointing part was the staff’s attitude. One waitress opened a champagne bottle in the bar which was far away from the table and the cork nearly hit my eye. The waitress came over and was only interested in locating the champagne cork, no apology whatsoever from the waitress or the restaurant manager. That was very dangerous and my eye could have been severely damaged!
Over-priced and sub-par food. This was one of the most disappointing meals I have eaten out in London in 25 years. We ended up being sat in the casual dining area downstairs, rather than the much nicer restaurant upstairs and it was all downhill from there. Every single dish was poorly prepared and presented as if cooked by a child. Everything we ordered, ranging from sides and starters to mains and desserts were way over-priced, compared to what you would pay for food of a similar standard in the city. One of the major disappointments was the lobster pasta - the dish my wife had seen on the website and decided on way before we had arrived. It was, in no uncertain terms, a complete disaster. One of the worst bowls of pasta I have ever seen outside of a school canteen. A complete disaster made all the more hard to stomach, given its £30 price tag!!! As someone who eats out very regularly in London, even during recent months, I can safely say this is one of the most underwhelming efforts I have ever witnessed. If you are looking for seriously overpriced mid to low end chain restaurant fare, this might well be the place for you. A disaster!
Booked here for a birthday lunch, arrived 15 minutes early and asked if we could have a drink and wait. The member of staff who greeted us promptly replied that she had no room for us and shrugged her shoulders. The place was next to empty. Abysmal service and attitude, we promptly left and spent our money in a far more friendly local establishment.
