In London for work and came here for dinner as it was across the street from the conference venue. I came here 6.5 years ago and knew I had to come back when I saw it was close by – it’s that good. I got the butter chicken, garlic naan, gulab jamun, and masala chai. Would highly recommend any and all of them! Service is fantastic as well. Shah was a delight! Must visit if you’re in the area (or London in general).
Wonderful food here! We had a few different items but our favorite was the vegetable curry, so smooth and flavorful. Paired beautifully with the garlic Naan. Which is definitely made in house and fresh to order. The severs were welcoming and let us have our space without leaving us hanging. 5/5 would come back again!
What an amazing find! I have strict dietary requirements, and it can sometimes be challenging to find a great spot to eat while on holiday. The food and service were impeccable, and I truly could not have asked for a more perfect meal. My family doesn't have any restrictions or allergens, and they all thoroughly enjoyed their dishes too. The service was phenomenal, and Shah, in particular, really made our visit memorable. Thank you!
Had an amazing meal here, second time visiting this restaurant. I had the Nawabi lamb shank which was superb. Great flavour and the meat was so tender it just fell off the bone. Generous portion sizes and extremely good value for money for a location right in the heart of the City. Rajal provided excellent service along with the other waiters. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great curry in the City of London!
We love Indian cuisine and we eat it very often… I even learnt to cook Indian food because so few places make good Indian food… but this place is something else! It’s absolutely AMAISING! It’s the best Indian food we have had in years! This place is absolutely wonderful and you won’t be disappointed. The menu is full of house dishes and they are just fantastic! Don’t miss out, go! Enjoy this wonderful food!
Really friendly staff and great food. I ordered chicken tikka masala, pilau rice, cheese naan and papadums — everything was delicious and the portions were generous. Excellent balance between price and quality. Definitely my new favourite Indian place in the city, especially being so close to Monument.
The food was excellent and clearly made with care, and the service was friendly and attentive without feeling over the top. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, which made it easy to sit back and enjoy the meal. All of our meals were delicious. Overall, a great spot with a nice balance of good food, good service, and a very pleasant vibe.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent Indian food in the heart of London We had a fantastic lunch at The India Restaurant near Monument. The food was exceptional — rich flavours, perfectly cooked dishes, and very authentic Indian cuisine. The service was superb: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, without being intrusive. A big plus is the short walking distance from Tower Bridge, making it an ideal stop after sightseeing. This place was recommended to us by ChatGPT, and it turned out to be a spot-on recommendation. Highly recommended if you’re looking for quality Indian food in central London. We’ll definitely return.
Shah our waiter was very friendly and responsive. We enjoyed our Chicken tikka masala, butter chicken and saag paneer. Portions were just right for two grown ups and a child. None were really spicy but we are sure they would ve made them to order if that would be our thing. Butter and garlic naan were outstanding. Lighting is rather dark, atmosphere is good and you can go without smelling like the kitchen when you leave as in other places. We can strongly recommend this place and my wife who had to travel to India for years considered it very authentic. If there is one ask for the owners/chef: Please add palak paneer to the menue!
For an Indian restaurant in London, you have to be really good to get a 5 star! And this place is definitely worth it. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Place has a nice cozy vibe. And the food is great quality. Very authentic and reasonably priced as well. We had chicken curry, cheese naan, mushroom rice and mango delight dessert. Everything was tasty except the mango delight - this was just a frozen dessert which was difficult to eat and nothing special. Other desserts were unfortunately not available. We had a discount via fork, so we'll worth it. Reservations recommended.
One of the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted ; organic and home made, spices, meet and rice clash together to create authentic Indian dishes. Delicious and natural, the dishes are well spiced and cooked making this restaurant truly amazing. Service and waiters are really friendly and the atmosphere is the right balance between loud and quiet and the restaurant itself is beautiful and comfortable to sit in. To anyone searching top quality Indian food in London, this is what you’re looking for. Prices match the quality of food and the bill might be high (an average of £50 per person).
We had an absolutely brilliant experience here. From the moment we arrived, the service from Shah was outstanding — genuinely above and beyond five-star service. He was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel so welcome without ever being overbearing. The food was excellent. We ordered the chana masala, chilli rice, and paneer tikka, along with drinks, and everything was full of flavour, well-cooked, and clearly made with care. Each dish was spot on and arrived at just the right pace. What really stood out was the service — Shah went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves, which made the whole experience even better. Fantastic food, exceptional service, and a great atmosphere. We’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to others.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a wonderful lunch at The India Restaurant, Monument, made even more special by the fabulous service from Rohit and Rajal. They were extremely warm, attentive, and professional throughout our visit. Their recommendations were spot on, service was prompt, and they made us feel genuinely welcome. It’s rare to find service that’s both efficient and heartfelt — Rohit and Rajal truly elevated our dining experience. We’ll definitely be back again! The Price was very respectable compared to the prime location!
This was my third visit to The India near Monument Station, and once again, I was blown away by the consistency of their service. Let’s talk food first: we kicked off with the Tandoori Chicken starter — just one piece, but surprisingly perfect for sharing. Then came my spicy paneer (creamy, rich, with just the right heat), while my friend had a hearty lamb curry. We shared a vegetable biryani (which came with dal on the side — didn’t even realise that was included!), a cooling raita, and of course, garlic naan because how could we not? The flavours? Absolutely phenomenal. The food arrived fast, piping hot, and honestly, we may have over-ordered — we needed four takeaway containers to pack it all up. Zero regrets. But it’s the service that keeps me coming back. We were greeted by at least three staff members before even sitting down. It was a blazing hot day, and they offered us a spot in the AC room, kindly seating us at a larger table so we could store our bags and relax. Throughout the meal, multiple team members checked on us, offered thoughtful suggestions, and at the end? Complimentary drinks on the house. It’s the kind of place you could bring friends, a date, or your parents and feel right at home. That rare combination of elegance, warmth, and consistently good food is exactly why this restaurant is now firmly on my regular rotation list. And yes — I’ll be ordering the spicy paneer every single time. 💯 See more restaurant reviews on Insta @EncyclopediaOfWineandDine
Stumbled across this place whilst out for the day, so happy we did! Service was lovely and the atmosphere was relaxed but very nice. Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had, everything was 10/10 but would strongly recommend the lamb bhuna ⭐️
he food was excellent! Definitely some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had. Our waiter, Jubayer, was attentive and prompt. Overall, both the food and service were outstanding. I highly recommend this place! Please note: main dishes are served without rice. You will have to order them separately.
Excellent and tasty food. Service from Sah also perfect, very kind. Ambiance very cosy, not so noisy.
We enjoyed our delicious lunch! The customer service was immaculate. Shaa served us :)
Deliciously flavourful food, and very attentive and quick service. I had the paneer jalfrezi as my main and it was amazing, as was the paneer tikka. Would happily come back here.
Don't let the exterior fool you, it opens up to a lovely, cozy, and large space downstairs. The staff, especially our waiter Sha, are incredibly professional and attentive (one offered a new knife the literal second after I dropped mine). The food (we got the lunch special and kulfi) came quickly, was very reasonably priced, and delicious!
Very good Indian restaurant at affordable prices in the City. The staff are very attentive and the food is good quality. Our server Shah was particularly efficient. Thank you for this experience.
Fantastic little place. All the food was spot on; I had the garlic chilli chicken which was perfectly flavoured and my boyfriend had the korma which he said was delicious. The portions were also the perfect size, bot too big like they can be in other Indian restaurants. Service was great (shout out to Ruhit) and fairly quick. Overall a very pleasant experience and I would definitely come back if I was in the area.
Best Indian meal of my LIFE. My friends had come here once already and brought a big group of us back. I could smell the delicious flavors from blocks away before we arrived. The ambiance was lovely and the staff were delightful, but the FOOD. OMG the food… I only like (quite) spicy food if the balance is right and I can still taste the complex flavors. They achieved this to a degree I didn’t think possible. The staff remembered (my frankly quite memorable) friends from a few nights earlier and enthusiastically greeted us. They tolerated my friend giving instructions on how he wanted his food cooked 😝. At the end of the evening they moved us to a back table so we could continue our wine and conversation while they got ready for closing. They high fived us on the way out. I will be coming back to London just to eat here (live in Germany for reference).
Great value for money. Thank you for recommending the Chicken Tikka Masala. We chose the express menu on Monday: a two-course meal with a starter and a main dish, accompanied by a small salad, naan, and rice. The warm, moist towels to clean our hands after the meal, as well as the small chocolate candies, were a really nice touch. We had a great time! Thanks to the whole team, and thank you, Sha!
Just had our staff social dinner there. Set menu was great value, food taste amazing and staff were lovely and attentive. Will definitely go back, thank you so much
The best Indian meal ever. The lime pickle was to die for - I did get second helpings. Mixed tandoori starter was delicious especially the king prawn and the salmon. Main course for me was the Jinghri Sizzler Hut - king prawns in a spicy sauce with onion and pepper. My partner had South Indonesian Garlic Chilli Chicken. Both tasted divine - we thought they were quite mild until the fiery kick. Service was efficient but not rushed - absolutely perfect. (Rajal and Shah say they were the best but all the staff were lovely) If you love Indian food you will not be disappointed
Wonderful dining experience with very pleasant atmosphere and mouth-watering dishes. Our writer, Rag, and all the staff were extremely helpful and caring. I definitely recommend to come, you will have splendid gastronomical experience.
Authentic Indian cuisine with a big variety of choice (different regions - vegetarian and meat). I eat there twice with my husband, both being an incredible experience. Flavourful meals, high quality ingredients. Reasonable pricing for London conditions. Very friendly service. Extra kudos to our waiter Rajal who helped me to add extra power to my dish. The place is a gem!
We stumbled across this restaraunt while travelling through London. A real hidden Gem. Good quality tasty food at reasonable prices. Ruhit and Rajal attended to us with professionalism and efficiency. Highly recommend.
Amazing dine in experience, we came for veg option and it was fully to our expectations. Nyc team work, quick service specially Mr Shah did really good service as well! If you're vegetarian and looking for good food it's highly recommended! Thanks Team
I’m currently on a work trip from India, and I’ve visited this restaurant three times in the last three days, that alone should tell you how wonderful it is! The food is truly exceptional, rich, authentic Indian flavors cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. Every meal reminded me of home. A special mention to Shah, who attended and served me each time with remarkable warmth and professionalism. His attention to detail, friendly nature, and genuine care for guests made my dining experience absolutely memorable. From the ambience to the service and the flavors, everything here reflects the true spirit of Indian hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates great food and heartfelt service.
Fantastic food spot for indian food lovers in London! Ruhid (a staff member) was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were served very quickly, and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!
Came here on my own while in the city for thesis research, and everyone was lovely! Chatted with Jubayer and several other very sweet staff members. Highly recommend for a solo traveler looking for a tasty dinner. Also came in mid December, and everything was very warm, cozy, and holiday appropriate. Worth the trip!
We were so well looked after by Shah! Wonderful service, best Indian food in The City and nice selection of wines. Perfect Thur/Fri night to start the weekend.
Shah took great care of me and a colleague. We were weary and looking somewhere to eat, and the reviews were good. I was hungry and my lamb byriani met the mark. Not exceptional but tasty and generous sized portion. We weren’t rushed, we weren’t pushed to order more than we wanted. Pretty good, and did I mention Shah and the other staff? 5* for them.
Nice but wouldn’t go back. Most of the food was nice but nothing special. The paneer starter had 2 pieces of paneer 🤣 butter chicken was nice but chicken was a bit tough but would recommend the chicken nawabi. Service was good but over the top, felt quite watched. £70 for 2 people no alcohol.
Decent Indian near to the Monument. Its downstairs so has an underground vibe. Tasteful tiger inspired decor. Food was pretty good although portions not huge. Kingfisher and Cobra on tap. We had some very Stacy dishes however lamb rogan was excellent. Friendly and helpful staff - worth a visit. They cater for larger groups also
No frill Indian cuisine that doesn’t break the bank nor disappoint. We went for the express lunch and it was great. Perfect portion , service was quick.
The food was good, but different than expected to be honest. The butter chicken was a bit too sweet for our taste. Staff were friendly and fast. Shah made sure we had a great experience. And taste is personal
Came here on a work lunch, first of all, i really like the service and atmosphere here, it feels top class. I ordered the lunch menu, for the starter, presentation wise, it just feels not right with a big silver plate and two small pieces of chicken. The taste itself i would say is quite normal. The main is a lamb biryani, to be honest I have never seen Indian restaurant serves a biryani like this. And the portion is just extremely small. Taste wise, they are below average.
The food was nice although maybe slightly too spicy for my taste. Unfortunately the service was slow - I had to ask for the bill 3 times before eventually going up to get it and they seemed annoyed by that. One of our party had a hair in their food. Perhaps we were just unlucky because they were busy but I won't be rushing back.
Indian restaurant is usually a solid choice for my whole family and 99% of the time we've had wonderful food and service around Europe and North America. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst experiences we have ever had. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, we were seated right next to the very loud group of people. We had to wait for the manager to place our order, the other waiters (there were many!) were just waiting or walking around, looking a bit scared. The athmosphere in the restaurant was pretty tense the whole time we were there for some reason. Once the manager came, he was seemingly irritated and was really rude to us when we didn't know to say first the number of the lunch meny before naming the dish (quite a small thing to get angry for customers!). We come from a country, where service is generally just a few words and perhaps a nod, so we are not even expecting a lot. After ordering, the food came quickly but the taste was mediocre at best. One star for service and food plus one star for the one waiter who was polite and smiling.
Menu can kind of be confusing. Butter chicken was okay but garlic naan lacked flavor and was a bit under done to my liking. Lamb tikka was dry. Not bad but not good. Servers werent very friendly either
I visited the restaurant for a late lunch with three friends. There were four of us in total, and we ordered two portions of the mixed platter and tea. While the food and tea were good, the service was extremely poor—the worst I have ever experienced. From the moment we were seated, the server assigned to our table was consistently rude. His behaviour made us feel uncomfortable and disrespected. I have never felt so small as a customer, and I have never encountered a server like this before. I am not someone who complains, and this is actually my first time raising an issue, but this experience is not something I can ignore or tolerate. When we said we would order starters first, the server reacted with visible facial expressions, as if we had done something wrong by not ordering main courses immediately. We were actually planning to order mains as well, but due to his attitude and behaviour, we decided not to. Later, when we asked for the bill, the server was again rude for no reason. We had ordered two platters, but only one was served. When we asked another staff member, we were told the second one was coming. Since we did not want to stay any longer due to the uncomfortable experience, we asked the original server for the bill. The bill showed two platters, so my friend called him to clarify. Instead of explaining, he made a “wait” hand gesture without saying a word, brought the menu, and said it was for two people to share. He didn’t care to explain us and made no effort to explain properly. By this point, we were extremely frustrated. We asked for the service charge to be removed. The server again reacted with unpleasant facial expressions. Service charge should be paid when customers are satisfied with the service. I have never asked for a service charge to be removed before, but due to the server’s behaviour, we felt it was justified. I strongly request the management to provide proper customer service training to their staff, as such behaviour leaves a very negative impression on customers.
