The Phoenix Pub in Bank easily deserves a full five stars. The staff don’t just “do their job”—they actually pay attention, move with purpose, and treat customers like people rather than tasks. You don’t have to chase anyone down for a drink, and they don’t vanish the second the place gets busy. They’re quick, direct, and competent, which is more than you can say for most pubs in the area. The food is where the place really overdelivers. Their fish and chips aren’t the usual greasy, half-soggy afterthought you get in central London. The batter is crisp without being oily, the fish is actually fresh, and the portion size is generous enough that you don’t leave hungry. The chips hold up—proper texture, not limp, not under-seasoned. It’s exactly what a pub classic should be, and they get it right consistently. If you want a place in the Bank area that won’t waste your time, serves solid food, and is run by people who know what they’re doing, The Phoenix is a clear standout. Five stars, no hesitation.

Such a great pub! Really tasty food, lovely atmosphere, and very friendly, attentive staff. I felt very welcome from the moment I arrived. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

Came here for a late lunch and had a wonderful time. The place was pretty busy for a Friday afternoon but made for a fun atmosphere. Had no issues getting a table and the bartenders/staff were super friendly and helpful in explaining the menu and answering our questions. The chicken club sandwich was pretty big and a lot of food. The fries were crispy and yummy. The croque monsieur was also very good. Not near our normal area of London but if around here again I’d love to stop by to try other things!

Clean, really lovely and helpful staff. Has my favourite beer (Hepcat) on tap. Multiple screens to watch different sports. Went in for one, but stayed for another as cricket was on.

I loved this place! Excellent spot in central London, as a restaurant for lunch meeting and as a pub afterwards. We tried the american burger with extra sweet potato fries which was exquisite, and a Asahi and Estrella draft beers. We would be more satisfied if the kitchen remained open for the Champions League match later since we tries to order finger food and small plates along with our beers but the kitchen closes after 16:00.

Came here as we were looking for tables to watch CL final… and luckily there were plenty of seats available. It is hidden so many people don’t know about the place. There are big screens to watch sports, plenty variety of drinks, and plenty of food. Also, the kitchen closes at 8pm (on a Saturday as far as I am aware). Clean toilets and clean place. No security guard, so it seems like a pub that don’t have problems. For food we had fries and chicken skewers - the skewers were small portions, but completely worth it

I recently visited Phoenix and was pleasantly surprised by both the atmosphere and the food. The place has that classic pub charm—warm lighting, rustic wooden tables, and a lively but comfortable buzz from the bar. Service was friendly without being intrusive. The staff were quick with drink recommendations and seemed genuinely happy to chat, adding to the overall experience. A hearty, satisfying pub experience with well-cooked food and a solid drinks selection. Perfect for a casual night out or a comforting meal after a long day. I’d definitely return to try more from the menu.

Pheonix Pub is truly exceptional, the perfect spot for great drinks and an unbeatable vibe! This place nails everything that makes a sports bar memorable. The atmosphere is electric on game nights but still comfortable enough to relax and hang out. The drink selection is solid, with cold beers poured perfectly and plenty of options to keep everyone happy. The staff are welcoming, quick, and genuinely make you feel like a regular. Add in the spacious layout, great music, and all the big screens, and you’ve got a spot that’s easy to return to again and again. If you’re looking for a sports bar with amazing energy, great drinks, and a vibe that keeps you coming back, Pheonix Pub is the one. Highly recommend!

The Phoenix runs smoother than most pubs in the area for one reason: the staff actually take the job seriously. They’re switched on, they don’t vanish, and they don’t let the bar turn into a waiting-room circus. Orders land quickly, drinks don’t go missing, and the whole place operates like someone competent is paying attention. The steak is a standout precisely because they don’t treat it like an afterthought. It comes out properly rested, properly seasoned, and cooked to the temperature you asked for—already a rarity in central London pubs. No leathery chew, no untrimmed fat, no excuse-making. Pair that with their sausage roll, which is the opposite of the dry, flaky mess other pubs try to pass off. The pastry has crunch, the filling has seasoning and moisture, and it tastes like something made on purpose rather than assembled half-awake. If you're tired of paying premium prices for cut-rate cooking and indifferent service elsewhere, this place will reset the bar. Five stars because they’re not cutting corners.

The Phoenix is one of the rare pubs in Bank where the staff aren’t a liability. They’re present without hovering, quick without being chaotic, and competent enough to handle pressure without asking customers for patience. That alone puts them miles ahead of most places in the area. Their burger is proof they’re not coasting in the kitchen either. Most pub burgers around here are bland, overcooked bricks smothered in sauce to hide the failures. This one has structure, seasoning, and actual balance. The patty tastes like beef, not filler. The bun holds up instead of disintegrating halfway through. Even the toppings are deliberate instead of being a random pile of lettuce thrown on out of obligation. They’re not reinventing anything—they’re just doing the basics correctly, which is more than enough given the competition. If you want a straightforward, high-functioning pub experience rather than a parade of excuses, The Phoenix is the one to pick. Five stars and not a stretch.

The Phoenix Pub in Bank succeeds for one simple reason: they actually execute. The staff don’t shuffle around pretending to be busy—they move with intent, keep the bar under control, and don’t make customers chase them down. Even when the after-work crowd piles in, they don’t crumble, slow down, or start ignoring tables. It’s an operation run by adults, not people killing time on shift. Their fish and chips remain the clearest example of why this place outclasses the competition. Crisp batter that doesn’t collapse into a greasy film, fish that flakes properly instead of dissolving into mush, and chips with actual texture. But the real sleeper hit is the Scotch egg. Most pubs serve a dry sphere of disappointment; here, the yolk stays soft, the sausage layer is seasoned properly, and the crust has crunch instead of oil-soaked grit. It’s the kind of detail you only get when the kitchen actually gives a damn. If you want a pub near Bank that respects your time and doesn’t feed you the usual central London mediocrity, this is the one. Five stars, earned, not gifted.

Super cute place- food was good- service was good Wasn’t packed but it was a vibe. Our server Gus was super adorbs and helpful. From the states and made me a cider/Guinness and confirmed the fish and chips were a solid choice. We shared that and a few drinks. Would def come back

From the moment you walk into The Phoenix, it’s clear the place is run by people who actually care about creating a smooth, welcoming experience. The staff stay aware of the room, keep service moving without feeling rushed, and strike that balance between efficiency and friendliness that most places never quite get right. You’re looked after without having to ask for anything twice, and that sets the tone immediately. The fried chicken is a standout for all the right reasons. The coating comes out crisp and light, the seasoning has real flavour behind it, and the chicken itself stays tender from the first bite to the last. It’s the kind of dish that shows someone in the kitchen is paying attention to technique, not just putting plates out quickly. Simple, well-executed, and genuinely enjoyable. If you want a spot in Bank where the service feels intentional and the food has real care behind it, The Phoenix is absolutely worth the visit. Five stars, confidently given.

This City pub is mainly frequented by local office workers. It is reasonably sized with a good amount of seating. There is no exterior seating so that at busy times a lot of customers will drink standing up outside. It was very quiet when I visited at 2.30 on a Tuesday afternoon. I was disappointed to see that they only had one cask beer, a Timothy Taylor Landord, which cost me £6.55. Their whisky selection was good, around twenty different whiskies. The walls, adorned with various pictures are painted a dark battleship grey. Together with the dark wooden floor this does make the pub rather dark. They do sell food, a limited menu, two courses £18, three courses £22. It is an okay pub in a good location, being close to both Bank and Liverpool Street Stations.

Large spacious city pub. With a great range of beers and wines. Lots of people spill out from offices around there, so it gets busy around tea time onwards. 5pm ish. Mains around £15 -20. Beers £6-7 ish. The only slight negative is getting enough staff from being the bar to collect glasses and plates from tables.

Better than average City boozer. Big screen showing sport.

I can recommend the Phoenix Feather. Good Ale. Nice surroundings. Update: dropped in at lunchtime and had the fish finger ciabatta. I was impressed. It went well with a pint of Landlords. Will update again on the next visit.

Spacious and nice pub in the heart of the city. It is rather packed between 5-7pm but then becomes more enjoyable. Good choice of draft beers and food as well. We tried the Nachos platter which was expensive but really worth it. Overall, good pub to meet with colleages and friends after work.

Was looking for a place to see me mates football club play tonight in the Champions League group play. Went into another pub around the corner and one of the gals behind the bar said that "The Phoenix" had TV's 🖥 and would probably be my best option. One being so close as it was after kickoff. Took a short walk over and had a chat in the que. Saw they had Cask Ales and tasted a sample. Bloke behind the bar @ The Phoenix poured me a local variety and now just enjoying my pint as Liverpool are 1 ALL vs Rangers.

Very well located pub, but that means it can be busy. We reserved a table which was worth it as it was standing room only on a Thursday night. Beer was good and the bar was very efficient despite the busyness.

Okay food and drinks in here. It was slightly disappointing to be ushered back to our seats when going to order as there is ‘table service’, but then a non - negotiable tip gets added onto the bill. I get it, only a Scrooge wouldn’t pay for it, but just seems a little sly. Maybe pay your workers more?

F
Fappa Pickle

Lovely Australian bar man saw me looking for a seat on a busy night and told me where there was one free- top man! Watching the football was a nightmare, TVs going on stand by and with several matches one they mixed up the remotes several times changing the channel

A

Very busy and almost entirely male crowd at 6pm on a Wednesday. Several of us were asked to leave our tables without any prior notice or signage due to a private party taking over the area. The staff member dealing with it seemed stressed and overwhelmed, with little patience or customer service. We decided to head elsewhere and found a quieter, more welcoming place instead.
