Very nice place, we had super attentive staff. It did felt like they a bit short staffed for the busy hours on Sunday. We went there for Sunday roast and it was very very nice meal. Was a bit confusing that we had few different people asking us if we need anything else, and when we asked for horseradish from one person it basically never arrived to our table. But it’s just little remark I would say. Got nice little treat for my birthday as well which was a nice cherry in the cake for me :)

If I could eat here everyday I would. Everything was simply the best I had ever had. Be it the steak, beef Wellington, scallops, mash potato, didn’t matter. Simply the best. Everyday food done to absolute perfection. The wait staff were attentive, atmosphere relaxing and the wine suggestions on point. I look forward to returning one day if for no other reason than to take better photos of the amazing food we enjoyed.

I ate here for the first time. The place and the atmosphere was amazing. The staff (both chefs and waiters) was so kindly with us and I really liked the way they explained the food to us. The food was so good and the design of dishes was so beautiful wich made me go even deeper into this experience and realize that it was a really high level cuisine. If you want try a really true food experience in London, well, this place is the right place for you!!!

Absolutely great experience, food was fantastic as was the service. The waiter serving us was exceptionally good and knowledgeable on the dishes (apologies, forgotten his name) had a good chat about the hotel, the waiter offered a tour of the hotel function rooms including the ballroom which was very impressive.

Brilliant restaurant The River Restaurant at The Savoy Hotel. Food is outstanding the staff are very friendly and helpful and attentive. The view is amazing over The Thames. I had the Arnold Bennett Omelette with Brown Bread and seaweed butter. Which was really tasty, the omelette was very filling it was very light and fluffy and had onion in it which made it very tasty. The seaweed butter was nice salty and minty. I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert and that was amazing, the toffee sauce was nice and sweet and the pudding melted in your mouth and the cream was just the right amount to go with it. I had a pot of tea which was enough for 3 cups. Lovely atmosphere with music playing in the background, but not to loud. Would definitely go there again and would recommend it to anyone, as the food and service are amazing.

Had fabulous weekend out with family and friends at this place! From start to finish top level service. We were surprised how good was whisky cocktails, highly recommend. Also kids had their ice cream, even we did not order, as this ones was for the little birthday surprise. If you have a chance to visit, you leave happy. Have a good time!!

Visiting a Gordon Ramsey establishment for the first time. Wonderful atmosphere and service. The Beef Wellington was Devine! The salmon was just as spectacular. The Sticky Pudding, OMG!

Dinner here was wonderful! Fancy but yet not over the top. We all loved the shellfish tower! Excellent oysters! One tower was plenty for 3 people as our 4th person isn't a seafood person and stuck to bread. Beef Wellington was perfectly cooked and fabulous! I ordered the fish special of the day and cannot for the life of me remember.what it was but it was excellent. Absolutely perfect sear on the top!

Just the best experience!! We had never been to the Savoy so we were taken aback with the beautiful decor, especially during the Christmas period. The staff were lovely and possibly the best roast dinner we've ever had. Just a nice treat overall.

We had a wonderful experience at The Savoy's River Restaurant! The atmosphere was elegant, and the riverside views added to the charm. The food was exquisite, with each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The service was attentive and friendly, making our evening truly special. We can't wait to return!

I took my wife to the River Restaurant for her birthday last Saturday. From the moment we got on site, we were treated with the utmost professionalism, respect, and courtesy. from the doormen, (Sebastian and Ghanti) Sebastian personally took us to the booking desk. The restaurant staff were amazing. 2 Gents (who are managers,(Richard and Julien) came and introduced themselves to us, and made us feel very welcome, they made us feel like we've known them as friends for years, going above and beyond, even noticing our glasses were low and pouring our drinks for us, (water and Champagne). After finishing our meal, which was OUTSTANDING, from presentation to size to taste, (pics added) they arranged for a small cake for my wife. (Not pre ordered). Julien had finished his duties/shift he came over to us to goodbye before leaving. Richard also made effort to come to us as we were leaving. My wife was blown away by the whole experience. I could go on and on and on. My last words would be. A massive THANK YOU, especially to Julien and Richard. Oh and Sebastian and Ghanti.

Dinner at the River Restaurant in the Savoy is consistently a remarkable experience. The atmosphere is captivating, the decor is stunning, and the food is an absolute delight. At Christmas time, the festive decorations make the setting even more breathtaking, adding a touch of magic to the occasion. The staff strikes the perfect balance between attentiveness and discretion, ensuring exceptional service without being intrusive. There's always someone nearby if assistance is needed, making the entire dining experience seamless and thoroughly enjoyable.

A gorgeous restaurant with some excellent food. Service is as on point as you would expect. I had the prix fixe pre theatre menu. A delicious ceviche followed by a perfect risotto. Portion sizes are small so I ordered a side of delicious broccoli. Had a cheese plate for my third course.

Great food, a little pricey but the quality of the all the ingredients is very high. Service was excellent and very friendly. Quite but intimate setting. Great location on the savoy, and seating is very comfortable. Good for family or to bring a date. Beef wellington is great, but overall was a little disappointing.

Excellent pre theatre lunch on Thursday with my 9 year old. Warm welcome from all staff. Barman offered options on flavours to my son and the drinks were spot on. Food was an another level, great quality great flavours and perfect portion sizes. Excellent service. Very good memories made and we will visit again. Thanks to all involved for your hospitality. We’ve seen Paddington will be at the Savoy theatre soon so I’m sure another visit with family to the amazing River Restaurant before or after.

This was my first experience at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. The surroundings was very opulent as it is in The Savoy Hotel which is a world famous establishment. The staff were very attentive and friendly and professional. We went there for dinner on a Friday but it was not busy at all so it made the experience quite pleasant. The food was delicious and very well seasoned. I especially enjoyed the langoustine bisque which was rich, creamy and smelled and tasted wonderful. Everyone enjoyed their meal and had a good experience. It would be a great place to come for a special occasion.

We went 5 of us for a Dinner at the River Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay on a Monday Evening. Located in the Historical Savoy hotel. Laura the Host welcomed us and took us to our table, a decent space between us and other table, the restaurant was pretty busy for a Monday evening. Our table was in the middle of the restaurant facing the Bar which have high bar seats and offer the same menu . Clifford the Manager made us very comfortable and explained about the concept, the menu and highlighted some of the signature dishes, Diana our waitress was always smiling and checking on us all the time as well as the Manager Started were great not heavy but also great to share. For the Main course we tried both the Dover Sole with Meunier sauce and Gordon Ramsay specialty, the Beef Wellington. The Sole was fresh and nicely balanced with Meunier sauce and the beef wellington was the best I had so far. The ambulance was great as not too loud , perfect for all sort celebrations. Desert were great , festive but the star was the Sticky Toffee Pudding, it it a MUST if you like sweet things. We will highly recommend the River restaurant for sure.

I think it goes without saying that the food would be outstanding. However my main reason for review is for the service and hospitality from a certain individual under the name of Ethan. We were made to feel welcome the minute we were sat. Incredibly attentive and over just brought an amazing energy. Would return if not for anything else solely for them!

Brilliantly well run restaurant! Food amazing, staff amazing shout out to milan! Excellent member of staff served us with style and grace! And also the young chef who recommended steak tartan. Wasn't sure of what red wine to get and was recommended the new Zealand red , 3 crows that went down to well. Thank you again for giving us a memorable time at the savoy.

It’s amazing the food is out of this world and our waiter Wes brilliant he helped me deal with food intolerances and got me some stunning food. The sommelier helped pick the perfect wine and I recommend everyone to go. They made our 7th wedding anniversary the best. Keep up the amazing work.

The River Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay is a hidden gem in the heart of London. As a food enthusiast, I was eager to try out the dishes that are famously associated with Gordon Ramsay. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed. To start off our meal, we decided to order baked scallops and velouté. The scallops were cooked to perfection and were served with a delicious garlic and herb butter sauce. The dish was accompanied by a beautiful salad that provided a nice balance to the richness of the scallops. The Wild Leek & Potato velouté was equally impressive, with smoked haddock and sourdough croutons. The velvety texture of the soup was a delight, and the flavours were perfectly balanced. Moving on to the mains, we opted for the fish pie and the lobster. The fish pie was a standout dish, packed with flavour and plenty of fish. The pie was served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes that complemented the dish perfectly. The presentation of the dish was beautiful and the flavours were unforgettable. The lobster was equally impressive. The dish was simply cooked with garlic butter and lemon, allowing the freshness of the lobster to shine through. The lobster meat was succulent and the flavours were perfectly balanced. The service at the River Restaurant was also noteworthy. The staff was knowledgeable, and attentive and provided excellent recommendations. A big mention goes to Dimitris. He was exceptional and his service was one of the best I have experienced. He was great with kids as well. Overall, the experience at the River Restaurant was exceptional. The dishes were beautifully presented and the flavours were spot on. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and service makes it well worth it. If you're looking for a special night out be it a date night or with the family or want to indulge in some amazing food, the River Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay is the place to go.

Had a wonderful lunch with my Mum on my birthday. Servers were so nice, especially Julian and Cameron; we appreciated their kindness. The food was great, I had Monkfish Curry with saffron rice and the Beef Wellington. Had the sticky toffee pudding and the mango sorbet for dessert. Waiter bought out a Chocolate and salted caramel tart for me with Happy birthday on the plate. Thank you all.

I had the opportunity to visit the River Restaurant with my wife. I have to say from the service to the food all parts were excellent. We opted for the Shellfish Platter as you can see from the images below. It arrived with an abundance of shellfish all prepared with wonderful care and tasted superb. The waiters , sommelier and staff here were overly helpful and assisted with my wife’s dietary requirements. One of the best seafood experiences we have had for a while and can’t wait to come back to experience another wonderful evening.

We had our anniversary lunch here and really enjoyed it. The environment is lovely, the atmosphere relaxed and happy, the staff very pleasant and the food excellent. I'll describe food next, but one piece of feedback for the kitchen. Two of us ordered off the set menu (£40), one off the a la carte. The cod roe starter from a la carte has different cod roe to the set menu. The a la carte cod roe is amazing while the set menu cod roe tasted like houmous. IMHO they should both be of the same standard so as not to suggest a lesser meal on the set menu. Beetroot soup starter is a proper one, so tasty. For mains husband had the gunard fish of the day which was very good, a well chunky piece of fish, although you need to be skilled at fish on the bone. Salmon fish cake was a good size with some roe on top and delicious as was the soy glazed aubergine. Everyone had and loved the sticky toffee pudding!

My partner book a table for my birthday to celebrate as one of my wish was to try the beef wellington after watching all seasons of helped kitchen :) I did had expectations when we went there cuz I wanted to have the experience and it was just what I expected amazing flavour of all the dishes also the cocktails very tasty I had a purple rain I can highly recommend and house Pinot noir for my wellington tasted really well together, for starter we had a burrata small but super delicious flavours, for dessert I had a classic sticky toffee pudding but I tried my partner raspberry chocolate muse also tasted amazing . The service was very friendly and professional, polite , unfortunately I forgot the name of our waiter but he was a really nice Spanish guy many thanks for him and also many thanks for the manager Dimitrius to make my birthday special with a lovely salted caramel dessert and candle . We will definitely return and try the rest of the menu. Highly recommended and you must try !

First time at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant: everything was excellent from start to finish. The food was top notch, from the appetizers to the dessert. I should note a little mistake was made with our sides but that was corrected immediately. The fries are absolutely a must order.

We had such an amazing experience at the River Restaurant today! The service was excellent — warm, attentive, and friendly. The desserts were absolutely delicious, and the wine paired perfectly. A truly memorable visit. Big thanks to Julia and the rest of the team! We’ll definitely be coming back. 😊💓

A birthday celebration.. The Christmas decorations were fabulous, although the staff were very friendly and helpful, due to the restaurants being fully packed, service was slow. The main course only included Turkey and pigs in blankets, and no veg, which had to be purchased separately. Would have been 5 otherwise. I have been during quiter times and excellent

My experience at The River Restaurant in London was overall positive. The ambiance and service were commendable, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. While the fish and chips were good, they fell slightly short of exceeding expectations. Nonetheless, the diverse menu and other culinary offerings showcased the restaurant's commitment to quality. A visit to The River Restaurant promises a delightful dining experience along the scenic backdrop of London.

Great food and wine. Service was mostly excellent but the starter (soup) wasn't served correctly with a second waitress coming over to top it up.

The Beef Wellington is superb—perfectly cooked with tender beef wrapped in a flaky pastry that’s full of flavor. The staff are friendly and attentive, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes the dining experience truly enjoyable. Overall, a great spot for a delicious and memorable meal.

Nice Sunday roast — very filling! The chicken was slightly pink inside, so not my top choice. The beef, on the other hand, was much better and more flavourful.

Beautiful and clean restaurant. However, paid for a glass of single malt which came in a dusty glass. After asking to change it, they just poured the drink into another glass which then had the dust floating in it.. after complaining again, we kindly had one of the desserts for free. Overall food was delicious and beautifully presented.

I have no problem with getting quality food, and a great service. Came on a Sunday with an elderly couple who invited my family and i after watching Paddington, but found myself feeling upset due to the personal hygiene of our waiter. His odor was not pleasant, and he smelt like an ash tray. Yes, he was dressed impeccable, but unfortunately..... Other than that, the view, the beauty of the restaurant and the food was AMAZING! Shall definitely be back in February.

Sadly I had to take a vegan with me to a fish restaurant. Be advised that if you don't like humus you'll be unhappy with the menu. I had expected spectacular food but didn't find it any different to lots of other places . I think little bubbles of pea, and carrot flavour on the plate are a bit old hat now and definitely not filling. I ordered chips to go with a meal that wasn't very substantial. I don't mean I wanted my plate groaning with food but I had expected at little more imagination. Pudding was two scoops of vanilla ice cream. The vegan starter was a few pieces of carrot, radish, beetroot, and a hummus dip

It is only not 5* because it was more expensive than a 1* Michelin restaurant I did the same day and £25 for a starter you know.. it was creative but £90 for the 3 courses not quite worth that much. Curry was one of the best I've had though

Oh I hate reveiws like this. I was so excited to eat in this new Ramsey Savoy restaurant. Always been a big fan of the Grill and the Savoy. For me, the River Restaurant was good, but maybe our timing made it an average. We visited the Savoy theatre and got to the restaurant at 2210 for a 2215 reservation. The place was a little quiet and even though it was quiet, half empty etc we were told to wait a few minutes because our table wasn't set up! Then asked to order quickly as we were the last table and the kitchen would close after our order because Andrew had already left and only the junior sous chef was left in the kitchen by himself!.... Food was very good, not very exciting but good. The tandori Monkfish didn't pack much punch in terms of flavour and had been left on the pass as the fish was cold in the centre, hot on top, plate roasting and the jus had formed a skin. The Koffman fries were very nice (reminded me of Nando's Piri Piri Salt though!). I am told the fish burger was great. No side plate offered for the muscles shells, we had to ask. Everyone enjoyed the meals though, very good just not exciting. Service was a little ropey. A few times we had to get the attention of the staff even though we were one of 4 tables in the place. Our server told the next table he was leaving to start a business and was the last longest standing server since opening and team "just rotates" - which is a shame, I would have thought poeple would kill to work the Savoy and for Ramsey. I know hospitality is suffering at the moment, but something seems off here. Wine list is a little odd. Loads of french wines which is fine, lots of expensive french wines also. Quite a few Italian also. Very extensive red wine list. Lacking in whites given the fish and seafood theme. But then when it came to other regions it was lacking. Even though we usually go white with fish we decided to end the evening with a red, 3 of us were french and 2 of us are knowledgable wine people before you hate me for the next comment - but we really fancied a good Malbec or a punchy rioja. One malbec on the wine list, only one wine from Argentina - £60 for a £15 bottle of average Malbec. I would have happily spent £100-200 for a good Malbec. Menu needs more and better new world wines. The service bar that made our cocktails after the American bar rejected us for caapcity however, was flawless - cocktails from here were actually better that the AB and the mixoligist wanted to see who had ordered Sidecars and came out to talk to us, deliver the drinks and chat about how he enjoyed them himself and loved making the classics. Didn't want to write this reveiw and didn't want it to be this long. Just hope someone in GR world reads it.

Overall, a solid 4/5 for the River Restaurant. I wasn't overly impressed with my meal taste wise, but my partner made better choices and the restaurant is amazing. Incredible service too. We had the set lunch menu which was £45 each (plus sides and drinks). In total our meal came to just under £150. To start my partner and I shared the homemade bread and seaweed butter which was delicious. I could have eaten the bread and butter all day! Then I had the pumpkin soup which sadly was a huge spoonful of creme fraiche with a small amount of pumpkin sauce around it. Far, far too creamy, even when mixed together. My partner had the salmon creviche which was very fresh and tasted delicious. Next I had the soy glazed aubergine. The aubergine was well cooked and delicious, really tender. But, it was covered in hummus and more creme fraiche. There was a spoonful of hummus on the plate but I wasn't too sure why as it didn't come with anything to dip or scoop it up like a crostini etc. The ratio of hummus and creme fraiche to aubergine just seemed really off as it was too creamy. My partner had the salmon which was really tasty and a huge portion. We shared the fries and house salad with our mains. To finish, I had the chocolate and coffee delice with popcorn ice cream, my partner had the sticky toffee pudding. He has such a sweet tooth but said it was too rich. I had the subzero martini which was light and refreshing. I've eaten at several Michelin star restaurants and all have been lovely experiences. I enjoyed our visit to the River Restaurant but I was somewhat disappointed with my starter and main. Everything else about the meal was flawless.

Elegant dining with lovely service, though portions could be more generous. The River Restaurant by Gordon Ramsay offers a lovely dining experience in a beautifully designed space, no expense spared on the interiors. For the best spot, I recommend requesting a table at the back left of the dining room; it has views outside, albeit slightly limited. The food is delicious across the board. Cocktails are expertly made, and the fish and chips were very good. The Dover sole meunière was a standout, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. That said, portion sizes, especially for starters, felt a bit tight for the price point. The smoked salmon arrived with just three slices, and the scallop dish came with only two. For a restaurant at this level, you'd expect a little more generosity. Service was a real highlight: front-of-house staff were superb, warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. The overall layout of the dining room strikes a great balance between comfort and elegance. However, one minor inconvenience: the toilets are quite a walk away, requiring you to leave the restaurant and pass through the afternoon tea area. All in all, a refined and enjoyable meal, though a slightly larger starter wouldn’t go amiss

I have wanted to go to the Savoy for a very long time. I booked, I anticipated, and I went. On arrival things looked opulent and as I'd imagined. As we were directed to The River Restsursnt I could feel my excitement drop. Seemed a bit bland.. then we were seated at the back. I was positioned behind a column and couldn't see anything but watch a Chinese man opposite me eat his fish and chips. My friend was seated facing the lady at the next table. Felt too close, not well thought out. I wanted a view, I wanted to see the magic happen in the restaurant. I could have been anywhere, I was really underwhelmed and disappointed. The food however was another story. I went for the mackerel to start, with gooseberries, bit sharp for my taste but the mackerel was amazing. I followed with the mushroom risotto with truffle. Strong flavour, delicious, and then...sticky toffee pudding to die for. It was an experience, but overall I just felt a bit deflated.. I like to see things happen, watch the people, watch the staff, its all part of dining out.. I was stuck at the back with no view. Tables too close together. Staff friendly, but a bit stoic.. lighten up a little, the (french) man who took our payment was a delight, friendly, jovial, a delight. But was hoping for better.

High expectations from a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, but reality fell short. + Elegant setting, polite staff, fresh oysters, Beef Wellington full of flavor. - Ambience feels outdated, Devilled Crab & Crumpets were bland, Cornish New Potatoes and green salad arrived practically raw and poorly prepared. Overall: below average experience, not living up to the Gordon Ramsay name.

K

Went as part of a mutual friend birthday celebration, the atmosphere was nice and the staff were very attentive, with food coming at a good pace and the staff providing a small treat for the birthday girl. Unfortunately the food itself was somewhat disappointing for me, the vegetarian option was a pretty small portion and it's one of the few times I've left a restaurant feeling hungry. The desert was decent but expensive for what it was. Some of the meat/fish dishes looked similarly anemic though the fish and chips appeared to have a good portion size! Overall couldn't recommend for the price, the staff couldn't make up for the food. Clear you might get more bang for your buck with the meat dishes, but I'll leave that for others to review.

C
Clare Jenkins

Setting was lovely, all the Christmas decorations were up. Food was good but the portion size of the risotto was the size of a starter. Very disappointing indeed. I left the restaurant very hungry, I wish I had mentioned it at the time. At this point I would not recommend.

My sisters, mother and I had previously lunched at what was then Kaspar's annually for many years. My sister purchased two 'meal for two expirence' vouchers as a gift. Prior to being seated at what is now Gorden Ramsey's River Resturant, an issue was raised by staff who had incorrectly recorded one of the voucher codes. This resulted in my poor sister having to trawl back through emails to find the codes! We were eventually seated in a bay window. It was noted that there were, at one point, ten people sitting in this little square bay in what was a virtually empty restaurant? As the meal progressed we discovered that the other guests were also using 'gift vouchers'. Despite being told we were free to order anything we wanted, the value of the vouchers would simply be deducted from the final bill, we could not help but feel we were in the 'cheap seats'. Environment: very disappointing. Cramped. Lamp fittings were rusty and dusty. (Despite being a newly refurbished restaurant!) Service: very poor, not attentive and far too much leaning over. Food: Incredibly disappointing. I had what was basically fish and chips. Nothing special, not tasty and no richness. Worse still, the chips, (all half dozen of them) were served in what I can only describe as a small, rusting silver tone cup that looked more like am old toothbrush holder! In all the meal and the expirence was very disappointing.

M
Martin Green

To say the food was extremely disappointing would really be an understatement when one considers the price. We had eaten at the River Restaurant two years ago, and were blown away with the food quality, we expected to have the same great culinary experience, but sadly, it wasn't to be. It seemed as if we came to a completely different restaurant. Nearly every dish we ordered, the sea food was not fresh; in fact two of us had to send dishes back because of that. I had the fish and chips and the fish was very watery and batter so hard, as to be almost in penetrable. For 29.50 it was a complete let down. I’m wondering if Gordon Ramsey had eaten here himself in the last two years, if so, I can’t imagine him allowing this terrible quality of food to be served. Our server though was amazing. I felt bad as she was even embarrassed when she saw the dishes we sent back. The place itself is beautiful and atmosphere charming, but those factors alone can't make up for the bad quality food. Needless to say we came away with bad tastes in our mouths, in more ways than one!

L
Lars Hojak

For us, the evening at The River Restaurant was very disappointing. My wife and I both ordered the Beef Wellington, and the doneness was not achieved as requested, it was not medium as ordered, which was already disappointing enough. However, at least as frustrating was that the plates were not pre-warmed and were actually cold. As a result, we had cold meat on our plates while eating. When we asked the waitress why the plates weren't pre-warmed, she seemed visibly overwhelmed by the question but said she would ask in the kitchen. When it came time for dessert, she said nothing about the meat. When nothing was mentioned until the bill was presented, we asked again, but the waitress didn’t provide a real answer. A disappointing evening.

B
Beth Agar

From start to finish the experience was atrocious. We were early and asked to sit at the bar whilst waiting for our table even though there were plenty of empty tables throughout the restaurant! 25 minutes later we get to our table which was absolutely freezing two couples who were sat with us had already complained one even moved! The starters were passable with the menu stating £32 for prawn cocktail where my husband got 5 prawns! Luckily on the bill it said £21 and we weren’t going to query that!! My devilled crab was okay nothing special and no seasoning at all but the crumpet that came with it was dense and dull, I’ve had better crumpets from supermarkets. For main course we had the bouillabaisse which was nothing special and my duck came with an inedible puy lentil side. Our bill was nearly £250 and when we only had 2 beers it’s ridiculous you are just paying for the name but the food unfortunately did not live up to the name.

I recently ordered the Omelette Arnold Bennett and was surprised to find a fish bone in the dish. While I understand the dish contains fish, I didn’t expect any bones to be present. When I brought it up with the staff, they acknowledged that the fish bone was not supposed to be there, which was reassuring. The Beef Wellington was good, but the ribeye and fish and chips were not worth the trip down. We had such high expectations given the good reviews, but the overall experience fell short. This oversight with the fish bone, combined with the underwhelming dishes, affected our dining experience. I hope the restaurant addresses these issues to improve quality and consistency moving forward."

Disappointing Christmas Day meal. Dietary requirements pretty much ignored, my wife is vegetarian and allergic to both dairy and citrus which both have life threatening reactions, the alternative canapés put down for her contained lime, and crab, 4 members of staff asked about allergies and they still get it drastically wrong, there where no alternative dessert’s available even though it was noted when we booked, so my wife was given two sorbets for both courses. For the rest of her meal they basically removed the item that may have been an issue leaving her with half her meal. The potatoes were raw and black from being undercooked and left to cool before slightly reheating. Everything was bland and under seasoned apart from the excessive use of truffle on almost every course leaving an unpleasant after taste as if they used cheaper oil instead of fresh truffle. My salmon starter was tasteless and basic, for the £285 per person price I’d expected so much more. The service was cold and unfriendly, last year we eat at the Dorchester and everything was impeccable. For a Gordon Ramsey restaurant it was and Appalling experience

I THINK GORDON HAS LOST CONTROL! My daughter took me to the Savoy for my 85th. Birthday, I was excited and looking forward to the occasion. On arrival there were two doormen, one opened the door of the taxi and although could see that use a walking stick and was hesitantly judging the height of the step down, they just stood and watched me and ignored us as we walked in. Inside was beautiful and we did receive a welcome. We had booked a table with a river view, the table was near a window, I had a view of the top of a tree, my daughter had her back to the window and there was a significant draught. The description of the restaurant states “tables to watch the river go by”. We did wonder why there were hardly any patrons in the restaurant when the Galley and the Grill were packed. WE WERE SOON TO FIND OUT! Sole Meuniere,“ the dish that made Julia Child fall in love with French cuisine” I doubt very much if she would have fallen in love with the dish that was served in the River Restaurant at the Savoy on Oct 14th.2025. the dish looked as though it had come from the local supermarket, from their fresh, lightly dusted, in store line, small, no sign of having been near any butter, all alone on a plate, I have never seen anything look so unappetising it was shocking. I have seen photos of what this is supposed to look like so what went wrong? The server then poured something lumpy and black over it which did nothing for the aesthetics, daughter told me later the sole was overcooked. I had ordered the roast halibut with delica squash and wild mushroom. As with all “haute cuisine” I was not expecting anything large, but I was surprised to see in the middle of a large plate, a piece of fish the size of a medium hen’s egg, I am still looking for the squash and the mushroom it was served with a chicken butter sauce (still wondering about chicken with fish). No fish knives were placed. Taste was okay. The River Restaurant serves only malted bread and apart from the fact that I don’t like it I thought it too strong for delicate fish, so I asked for a substitute bread, I was offered a baguette, which I declined not wishing to break a tooth, and was told that was it and the bread plates were taken away. A nice touch at the end of the meal, a small chocolate mousse with a candle with happy birthday in chocolate on the plate, whomever did the writing was very talented. On leaving, the doorman did deign to beckon a taxi forward. This review was not posted with the thought of a refund or an offer because I simply will never go to the Savoy again on principle.
