What a spectacular experience. From the food to the decor, we found Veraswamy lived up to our every expectation. Although the food quantity is limited; the quality in the food makes up for every bite. We truly found the Butter Chicken Au Vin to be the best version of butter chicken we have ever had, be sure to get this no matter your party size even if it’s just for the taste. Worth making the trip here, it truly is a once in a lifetime experience.
Extraordinary experience! Besides dining in a 100 years old Indian restaurant in the city center of London, which already is a thing, the atmosphere is charming, warm and made us feel very comfortable. The food was delicious and the people working there were very friendly and helpful, giving us suggestions on the menu. We dined there for our 7th anniversary, and as the cherry on the cake, they gave us a dessert to bring our celebration to the top. We are not based in the UK, but we’ll surely try to pop there every time we pop to London.
Brilliant dining experience - Weekend Lunch Menu Servers were friendly and attentive making sure they double checked allergens. All dishes were bursting in flavour, beautifully plated and left us full and satisfied. Can particularly recommend the spicy paneer starter and butter chicken main. A Michelin 3 course for £48 - can only recommend
We visited Veeraswamy for lunch after five years, and it was a wonderful experience. I was extremely impressed with the service, which was truly par excellence. The food was absolutely delicious. Manoj’s professional approach and his detailed explanation of each dish were superb and added a special touch to the overall experience.
We visited for weekend lunch, and were not disappointed. The interior of the restaurant is impeccably decorated and well-kept, with a bright, open feel. Most seats have a view out over Regent's Street, and even if you don't the splendour of the restaurant is a very fair compromise. The menu is varied with some creativity to the dishes, and appeals to a variety of dietary requirements too. Portions were generous and the food felt fresh, flavours balanced, and even the classics felt they had that extra touch of excellence to them. As it was a birthday visit, we were also gifted a chocolate mousse cake and birthday card, a very welcome gesture. Overall, a vibrant restaurant with comforting yet impeccable food, at a very generous price point - would thoroughly recommend!
I’m a big fan of Indian cuisine. Veeraswamy allowed me to experience another level of Indian food. Their food quality, food presentation….. couldn’t find a better word to describe. We ordered crab cake, grilled scallops, green prawns, raj puri, biryani, patiala shai raan etc… yes, ordered a lot for 2 persons, but couldn’t resist. Surely will go back.
We had a great anniversary dinner here. Our food was amazing! This was the best Indian meal I have had (and I have been to India!!!!). Our main dishes were lamb stew and curry and we definitely cleaned them up!!! Service was excellent. The space/location was very special. Old world charm with meticulous decorations. I look forward to coming back again!!!!
My husband and I booked in for our Birthday dinner. The food was delicious and there were quite a lot of options to choose from, even for vegetarians. The service was excellent and I appreciated that we were not rushed into the next course of meal. I was also served a cake for my birthday which was very kind and made my day! Thank you so much Veeraswamy team for making me feel special on my birthday.
This is one of the best Indian restaurants you can experience in the area. Everything was incredibly delicious, and we truly enjoyed it. I tried the slow-cooked lamb and garlic naan both were very satisfying. I also loved the chicken biryani. We finished the meal with a cup of masala chai, which was the perfect ending. I’ll definitely come back again and would love to enjoy some good conversations with friends here.
Excellent Service and Excellent Food. We went to Veeraswamy for weekend lunch, indeed an amazing experience. After a warm welcome, our family was offered a nice corner table. The restaurant had a very warm feeling, good decor and overall cleanliness was good. For cocktails, we ordered Stormy Monk and Lychee & Rose Martini. The monk drink was a punchy drink with sweet notes. The Martini was sweet. For starters, we ordered chicken lollipop and kheema gotala. The chicken lollipop which was cooked to perfection where the chicken was tender yet crunchy, for the keema, the lamb was cooked to perfection with correct blend of spices served on a bread along with a fried egg. For the main course, we ordered Butter Chicken Masala, Tandoori Raan Kebab with Yakhni Pulao and and Chicken Dilkush. I must say all the dishes were cooked to perfection and were very very delicious. Butter Chicken was sweet , creamy, and tangy served with fluffy lught naan. The lamb was so tender that it could be cut by a spoon, the gravy was smooth with subtle notes of rose water and garnished with flaky almonds. I loved that offered a complimentary desert for our anniversary. Will recommend this place anytime for an authentic Indian restaurant.
Incredible food and flavours. How can food taste this good? It was amazing! The service was great although they had given me the wrong bill at the end (which was cheaper than mine) but I let the waiter know as didn’t want someone else to end up paying for my food. I love the location so I hope it will continue to be in the same place for many years to come.
Although I visited many years ago, it is worthy of this review. The food was simply divine- the dishes were carefully and lovingly explained - it truly was amazing food. The setting and ambience were both lovely and quiet, even though it is right in the heart of the city. Beautiful views to boot…not easy on the pocket however if you want real fine Indian dining, this is the place to be.
Excellent food, and top notch service. Beautiful interiors all around. We were here for a Sunday lunch to celebrate my birthday. It was our first Michelin rated dining experience, and it was well worth it. We had the 3-course set menu, all vegetarian items. Loved the beetroot croquettes and Paneer Gulzar they were the best of the lot. Paneer was the softest I’ve ever eaten. Vegetarian crescent was the best value for money. Mulligatawny soup was unique and good, and so was the kaala jaam. Banana kulfi was ok. Portions were generous, and we had to carry some back as take away. David & Nisha who catered to us were attentive and made us feel extremely special. David was ever trustworthy explaining the menu and helping us select the right dishes, and Disha surprised us with the complementary birthday dessert, and the special greeting card. I would highly recommend this place!
Veeraswamy isn't just the oldest Indian restaurant in the UK; it’s arguably one of the best. Located in a prime spot overlooking Regent Street, the entire experience from start to finish was impeccable. The Food: Every dish was a masterclass in regional Indian flavors. • The Raj Kachori was a vibrant, crunchy explosion of pomegranate and tangy chutneys. • The Lamb Shank (Nalli Gosht) was incredibly tender, falling off the bone into a rich, velvety gravy topped with toasted almonds. • The Paneer Tikka was perfectly charred, and the cocktails (try the one with the cinnamon stick!) were inventive and beautifully balanced. The Service: Truly world-class. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and makes you feel like royalty without being overbearing. The Vibe: Stunning decor and a historic atmosphere. In an industry that changes every day, Veeraswamy is a survivor. I truly hope they continue to brave the storm—here’s to another 100 years of excellence! Highly recommend for: Special occasions, fine dining, and anyone wanting to taste the history of London’s spice trade.
Veeraswamy is an unforgettable dining experience in London. Located on Regent Street, the restaurant has incredible history, beautiful ambiance, and a very upscale feel, all while staying warm and welcoming. I booked this place with a friend for my birthday dinner, and to my surprise they made it extra special by bringing out a birthday card along with a small cake. Such a thoughtful touch. The food was outstanding. Loved the tikka and beetroot tikka appetizers, and honestly every dish we tried was excellent. The drink selection was great as well and paired perfectly with the meal. Yes, it’s expensive, but absolutely worth it for the food, the experience, and the heritage that comes with it. Nearly 100 years of history is no small thing for a restaurant, and you really feel that legacy when you dine here. A must-visit for anyone looking for refined Indian cuisine with history and character.
Such a wonderful tasting menu and of course very good value for money in Central London. I didn't eat Indian food often so I couldn't say much about authenticity, but for sure the menu was well choreographed for a culinary experience for anyone from any food background. The curries were adventurous for me and I liked them all. Food portion was generous with a very good protein share. This is super important for me to maintain a good diet even eating out sometimes. Service was attentive and explanation was clear and succinct. Showcased a variety of culinary techniques and passion of cooking.
Special venue having been around for a Century. Food is impeccable and consistent. Service second to none. Mango lassi quality. Weekend lunch set menu very good value.
We had a wonderful dinner at Veeraswamy in London. The vegetarian dishes were exceptional—beautifully presented and full of rich, balanced flavors. Every course felt thoughtfully prepared, from the delicate starters to the fragrant curries and perfectly baked breads. The atmosphere was elegant yet welcoming, and the service was attentive throughout. A truly memorable experience and one of the finest places in London for authentic vegetarian Indian cuisine.
I have no words. The food was on another level absolutely fantastic. The service was amazing. I wish I could give this place a higher rating. I simply can't say anything else. the food the service the atmosphere it was extraordinary. There is also an exclusive dress code that can be found in the website
I went to Veeraswamy for the first time in Aug 25 and loved the ambience and food. Food was great. Loved the palak chat, less keen on dessert I had. Service was incredible too. As for the location, Regent St needs no intro.
Simply cannot fault this place. We had a brilliant experience here on Christmas day. The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating and attentive. Every dish served was delicious and we especially enjoyed the attention to detail with their environmentally conscious Christmas crackers. The Christmas vibe with the live music also made for a lovely experience! :)
Dining at a Michelin Star restaurant ⭐️ We dined at Veeraswamy last weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. From the vibe to hospitality to food everything was top notch. The wait staff David and Nisha were exemplary in their service and David was also knowledgeable about the speciality and ingredients within every dish. There was ample space between each dish being brought to the table and this made sure we never felt rushed. As we mentioned it was a special ocassion, the restaurant even surprised us with a birthday dessert! We opted for 3 course set menu. Their portions were huge and we definitely over estimated our appetite! Their signature Anglo Indian Mullygatawny soup was rich, filling and delicious but my personal favorite starter was the Calcutta beetroot croquettes in Bhutanese Stilton sauce. This dish hit the perfect flavor notes. Coming to mains, Vegetarian Silver Crescent looked regal and the bhagare baingan was a hit. Paneer Gulzar had the most soft paneer I have ever had and a rich gravy. As for the dessert, while caramelised banana kulfi was great, their signature kala jamun with salted caramel gelato was definitely the show stopper! Overall our lunch was relaxed, savoring flavorful dishes in a great setup. Kudos to David and Nisha for making our dining experience a memorable one.
Delicious and flavourful food presented in the most beautiful way. While we expected the food to be great, the service levels were excellent too. Right from entering the restaurant, all the way to the dining experience - everything was on point and borderlining absolute perfection. We were here to celebrate a birthday, and the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert. How very thoughtful!! We will surely be back again 🙏🏽
The most friendly and attentive service. Beautiful dishes and surroundings, I can't rate this restaurant highly enough.
Went here for my sons birthday . From the welcoming lovely smiling doorman all the staff were very attentive. The decor and vibe was very nice. We chose the taster menu and added a lamb shank which was all 1st class alot of food and well worth the money in my opinion. There were 5 of us and with taster menu 2 bottles of wine plus cocktails it came to £150 per head which sounds alot to most people who are used to a normal curry house but this place is a very nice treat for a special occasion
I visited here for my birthday celebration and had a wonderful evening thanks to the delicious food and the warm service. We ordered - Raj Kachori, Banjara Chicken and Seekh kebab for starters followed by Butter chicken and Prawns curry in the mains. For dessert, we had their black carrot halwa and chocolate mousse. The absolute highlights for us were: Raj Kachori, prawns curry, seekh kebab and the black carrot halwa. The flavours were on point and the portion was generous. The ambience is very rustic and adds to the aura. Special shoutout to Joseph and Agnello for all the care and great conversations. Loved the experience and will definitely return!
This was my 1st visit and I brought my 85 year old Anglo Indian mum to celebrate her birthday. Such a wonderful experience from the moment we stepped through the door downstairs to the exceptional food and cocktails, tried the 1926, delicious! The staff were very attentive and Nadia was very knowledgeable of the restaurants history and made a lovely fuss of my mum! She had a lovely birthday surprise cake and candle and she thoroughly enjoyed her evening and said she would love to return one day! This to me was a priceless experience we shall treasure, just what I wanted for her! Mum lived in Calcutta and left for England, by boat. when she was 14 with her family. I never knew about the history of Veera Swarmy until there that night!! What a surprise it was and to see the menu that brought back so many memories for her!! A huge thank you!
Honestly the best Indian restaurant in the country… and I’ve been to a fair few including the one starting with G that was no where near as good as this. The room was stunning and service was impeccable. Every dish was so well balanced and perfectly spiced. My favourite was the chicken pepper fry, duck vindaloo and the naans. The glasses the cocktails came in were so impressive.
An exceptional experience. Lovely dining room matched by delicious food and attentive service. It's unfortunate that this 100 year old restaurant is likely closing. Go while you are able. The prawn curry and assorted pappadam were the highlights for me.
Wow. Amazing food, tasted like North Indian to me, with thick curries, tasty chutneys, and some of the best paneer I have ever had. Try the lamb curry too - they had two cuts from the shank in there and it was so delicious. The restaurant will be celebrating their 100th birthday in June 2026.
We had a set lunch menu and the lamb shank. The food was amazing and worth every penny. I think next time we wouldn't get the lamb shank and just have 2 set lunches. Great venue and atmosphere. If you get a window seat you can have a unique view of Regent Street.
We ate at this restaurant a few years ago, as a special treat after years of purchasing the Madras tinned curry sauce. Unfortunately the sauce has long been discontinued, but at the time was enjoyed by many family members and friends, at one point I dealt directly with the uk rep for Veeraswamy. The restaurant experience did not disappoint, every dish unique and delicious. Please don’t let this restaurant close, we plan to visit again very soon. Please could you also restart the Madras sauce?! Never found a substitutes Regards Maria from south wales
Situated just off Regents street with an entrance off a side alley, we visited for an evening meal. Doorman and then lift to the actual floor the resturant is on. Cosy and well presented throughout. We ordered a number of dishes including a chicken tika, lamb sheesh, scallops, aubergine and naan basket to name a few. Overall the flavours were there and clearly good quality. The tikka was flavourful and tender and the spice was there on the lamb. However, the pricing. Its Regent street so any price goes but really didn't think it was worth it. There is a £60 per head minimum fyi which doesn't help also. On top of that, there is also a foot note on the menu about flash photography and intrusive photos, presumably to ensure the low lit cosy ambeince is preserved. However they didn't care that much when a large table where making a lot of noise prior to seating right next to us.
Visited Veeraswamy today having grown up in London and cinstantly hearing about the restaurant for years. Staff were welcoming despite a very busy day and seated despite having no reservations. We had the weekend set lunch 2 courses for £42 and 3 courses £48. I would say the highlight for me was the butter chicken other dishes were nice too but veg options although I'm sure adored by many wasn't as good as my wife's home cooked versions I guess Im a little spoilt. Would definitely recommend a visit to this highly established Indian institution!
The oldest Indian restaurant in London but despite it's age, it's kept up with the times giving modern takes on older dishes. The food is great and portion sizes are not pretentious (but not as much as you'd get from a standard Indian restaurant) although the dessert portion sizes were small. We enjoyed the crab biryani the most. Overall, most of the dishes were tasty but I found I spent way more than I expected to here. It didn't feel like good value for money. It was a great experience and I'm glad to have tried it but I'm unlikely to return.
Food was good, lamb very tender and sauce lovely. Only downside slightly over pricy.
I visited Veeraswamy for the first time to celebrate my birthday, and I was genuinely impressed by the quality of the food. Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. The tandoori chicken momos were the standout of the evening—truly the best I’ve had. We also enjoyed the ran kachori and paneer tikka as starters, all of which were packed with flavour. For the mains, we ordered the vegetarian silver crescent, chicken biryani, chicken makhani, rice, and butter naan. Each dish was wonderfully cooked, aromatic, and beautifully presented. As a real foodie, I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Although the food was exceptional, the service could have been more welcoming, and the atmosphere was quite loud at times. The restaurant is on the pricier side, but this wasn’t surprising as I have also visited its sister restaurant, Chutney Mary, which offers similarly priced dishes. In comparison, Chutney Mary has a more pleasant ambience and more attentive service, but the authenticity and flavour at Veeraswamy were just as impressive. Overall, I had a lovely birthday meal and would happily return for the outstanding food.
This is a great Indian restaurant with really good food and an amazing history! Founded in 1926, the history is all there,.from.the photos of Gandhi's 1931 trip to London in the lift to the 5 quid lunch deal at the back of the menu. We had the veggie set menu. We really liked the kachori, but the paneer starter was even better and the real highlight was the main thali. However, the kulfi was a little disappointing. Overall, it was quite the experience and we're glad we went! : )
All of us did the tasting menu and were impressed with the portion sizes. I was a little disappointed in the overall flavors of the food, they did not stand out and seemed more dull than typical Indian restaurant food. Perhaps they are used to catering to tourists with less developed palates for spice. Loved the decor and service, but the bathroom was a bit of a mess. Wanted to love it, but it was just okay.
Visited the regent street location for my 40th birthday. Food was overall just ok. We have the £95 each tasting menu. The tiger prawn starter was amazing and the chicken tikka was very good. The menu was let down by the main. The 4 Currys were pretty bland. The butter chicken with red wine was actually pretty bad. Was almost inedible. Service was great, but won't be a returning customer. When you have a bill for almost £400 you expect more of a wow factor.
Didn’t get that WOW feeling. We have been to many 1, 2, & 3 Michelin starred restaurants here and abroad(by the way I can’t afford it but it’s an addiction) and usually walk out thinking WOW what absolute beautiful food, artistry & service But not at Veeraswamy. The food was ok as was the service but not worthy of a Michelin star. My wife and I had the taster menu. The chicken tikka was dry and overcooked as was the chicken in the curry. The lobster and pineapple curry were very nice. Lamb was just a lamb curry. The curries were served in bowls with another restaurant’s name on the side of them! Maybe we should have gone there? Didn’t get to sit in opulent surroundings even though we were there for the first sitting? View out of the window was gaucho steak restaurant.should have gone there? All in all ok but NOT Michelin starred food or experience. £300 but £80 was four drinks & £40 service charge for fairly average food.
Its a quiet famous restaurant for asians visiting London, especially if u r from India. Nothing actually is that famous compared to taste of Indian restaurants. Its acceptable in a place where you are longing for Indian cuisine. Its on a very higher price if u r particular to taste Indian cuisine. Costed us around 65,000/- INR for 9 of us, not really stomach full though. Better to taste on local culinary when u r on a foreign trip. Got some dress code for all to enter, like no shorts for male. No kids or infants allowed. Weird i felt!!!
A pleasant enough restaurant but didn’t seem Michelin star level to me. The restaurant was welcoming and the overall atmosphere was decent. I felt the food was tasty but not particularly exceptional, I’ve had similar in other Indian restaurants in the UK. The waiting service was ok but again not what you would experience at most other Michelin 1 star restaurants. Honestly, I wouldn’t rush back here. The food and service don’t feel worth it. Sorry!
Food: Very good. Price: High. Service: Very mixed, so overall poor. I took my parents here for lunch largely due to its Michelin star. The food was good and I think probably lived up to the billing, but the portion sizes were small, especially for starters and drinks were expensive. I can stomach that to an extent as I know good dining comes at a premium, but I felt with some drinks prices they were taking the mickey, A coke was something like 5.50 and alcoholic drinks and mocktails were pricey too. My biggest issue though was with the service. It was horrendously disorganised and seemed like only two gentlemen (one of whom was in charge) actually knew what they were doing. The delegation skills are lacking. Overall, it lacked attentiveness, it lacked personal touch and it was slow (they took ages to take our order. Servers were standing around staring blankly ahead of them and they didn't pay attention). And then the mains took ages to come and just as they arrived, someone else brought the dessert menus to us and said we had to order within a couple of minutes because the kitchen was closing. How do I know if I have space for dessert or want to sample more of your food when I've not even had a main course?! To cap it off, they charge a 15% service charge, of which 9% is obligatory (and 6% is not). We left feeling disappointed overall because of the high price and poor service. There is plenty of good food around these days for much lower prices and with better service and care of customers. This place felt like it doesn't care if you go back.
