Been going here for a couple of years now. Food is always good and it seems to get even better as time goes by. We love the Autumn roll, the Candy roll, the Mango Tango and the Crunchy. Service is spot on about 95% of the time. Definitely recommend.
Great 🍣. Everyone is so friendly. It is our weekly spot. Manny, Dario, Louis and all are friendly, tend to everything from refills, etc. The Animal Style and Albacore Jalapeño rolls are our favorites. Our children love the Candy roll. They have plenty of Keto friendly rolls too.
Came here on a late night date night. They had amazing service the staff are super welcoming and friendly. I always come here but never leave a review. You guys are awesome keep up the great job!!!!
Ate here with a friend. Was skeptical until I was seated, enjoyed the nice decor (kinda modern with an art deco feel) but cozy, too. What's not to like. Well prepared sushi rolls at a bargain price. Washed it all down with a $2 beer served in a chilled mug. Yup. I'll be back!
Great place! The service is amazing and the fish is very fresh.. Try the Kampai leaf. It's my favorite dish.
The sushi chefs were attentive and made some awesome rolls for us. The sushi 🍣 was wonderful as well. However, the service was really sub par. We had to ask for the check 3 times. We'll give it another chance sometime because the chefs were great.
Excellent sushi and a large variety of unique rolls. Service was average. They forgot one of our rolls but got it to us once made aware. Will return
Great variety of rolls and traditional sushi. Everything is delicious. Service is attentive. Small dining area, so be prepared to wait. Must haves: "Spicy" Edamame (not very spicy but full of flavor! ) and the Kampai Roll (don't miss it!).
First visit. Daughter recommended. Happy Hour specials. Scallop Carpaccio appetizer was phenomenal. Definitely must return to try other dishes
Great food, friendly and attentive service, casual atmosphere, and fair prices make this a favorite in the neighborhood. Several patrons leaving while we dined took the time to individually thank their servers and the host, as well as the sushi chefs. Many were on a first name basis with each other. Not something you see all the time. I really enjoyed my sashimi mix and spicy tuna hand roll.
So I've ben coming to this place for more then a year. About once a month or every other month. Sushi has gotten expensive in most areas and some places I feel don't even try. This place how ever knocks it out the park every time. The food always tastes fresh and I always order the same thing. The kill bill and the 911 both spicy tune style rolls and the rainbow roll wich is my favorite! I've never dined at the restaurant But from what I can tell The Times that I've walked in it's always clean staff is always friendly and the place for the most part is usually busy . However I call ahead every time and they are honest with the wait time and sometimes even faster than what they originally tell me. You can't go wrong here at this location I've had different roles and they have all been very good. The quality of the fish is the main selling point for me because it always taste fresh and the texture is perfect. Parking can get a little tricky at times but since I call ahead I always plan ahead and know where to park on the street or other side of the shopping center but thats only if it's super busy on a Friday night or something. Over all 10 out 10.!
The food was pretty good. The miso soup was full of flavor. The California roll was delicious. My favorite roll of the evening was the baked lobster. It was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat. Our waitress was super friendly and her eyeliner was on point! The music selection was amazing. Overall a very nice experience and would definately go back.
Best sushi I've had in 2021. I had the Hot Night Roll and the OMG Roll. Both were amazing. The fish was fresh and I can tell that everything else was fresh. I spent $20 on the meal so it really wasn't too expensive. Didn't take too long for them to make it either. Really put a smile on my face.
Well we come here in a weekly basis for about a year maybe longer and that says a lot for a restaurant in our family. We enjoy the sushi is always fresh and the service is always great. We dine in all the time. I will say they do keep it a bit chilly in there so bring a light jacket if your like me and don’t like to eat in cold restaurants. That would be my only complaint. Their Bento boxes are always Yummalicious. My fave sushi is their salmon which is always fresh. Love the garlic edamame. OMG. Yummy! Heck. I’m headed there today for lunch. I do recommend going around 5/5:30pm for dinner cause it gets BUSY after that and can be a wait but it’s worth it. Go and enjoy.
Our go to sushi 🍣 place. So awesome!
Weekends happy hour specials and good sushi
My husband and I frequent Kampai Sushi house and have always had a wonderful experience. Last night was magnificent. Our sushi chef, Raymundo, customized each order to our liking. Their dishes are creative and the fish is always very fresh. It is a really friendly atmosphere and the service is excellent. I highly recommend Kampai for lunch or dinner.
The Hand Cut Spicy Tuna Roll gets a 5 Star. The Spicy Tuna Roll was tightly wrapped with just the perfect amount of rice. After one bite, the spice had a "kick" like I had never experienced before. The quality of the food is excellent, and for the price for the one cut roll, it is worth the value. I will be recommending Kampai Sushi House to my friends, family, and my clients.
The Food was delicious, everything was fresh and the presentation was great. Service was a little slow but attentive. I will definitely recommend it 👌 👍
Smaller place inside but the sushi is bomb! Very clean and peaceful inside with really good prices for lunch hours! The sushi was by the far the best I’ve had in ages! Will be back for sure!
A really good sushi spot in an unassuming location. I was impressed with the quality of the sushi and the creativity. I tried their sushi pizza and it was delicious.
Food was fresh tasting. The crunchy roll wasn't greasy or overly done & with just the right amount of ingredients. The dipping sauces were delicious. Bento boxes were a deal for the $10 price. First time here but will come again.
This is the spot if you're looking for great sushi! I have been going here for a while and have yet to try something I didn't like. I just recently tried the dragon roll and it's my new favorite. When they serve it on the plate it even looks like a dragon! (See the pic). Bottom line, if you want good sushi, look no further!
Stumbled across this place and we were delighted. The service is excellent, and the sushi is phenomenal.

One of the best places for Sushi in Los Alamitos. The Kampai Sashimi Sampler is my favorite. Very fresh and well served. I also tried today the Lunch Time Sashimi special or combo. Although slightly less than my regular the Sashimi Sampler, the special is also about $10 less. Again, the freshness and portions were really good. Also the service is really good. Got to come back more often.
First time actually trying raw 🍣 Food did not taste fishy I really liked it! I have tried many other places and was never able to get a roll down roll 😔 but here I was they are phenomenal everything was very fresh And the customer service was top-notch...

Food was good but nothing suprising or unexpected of any sushi joint. Service depends on which server. I had asked for refill on tea and ginger twice and it was not busy time. I could come back if I am in the area but I had better sushi elsewhere as well. Pricing was fair. Happy hour is daily 3pm to 6pm...if anyone is interested.
Quick to seat a party of 6 on a Saturday night. All food was tasty and definitely will bring us back. Service was decent and other than our table needed to be wiped down a bit more than when we were seated. All in all a good family outing!
I've been coming here for years. happy hour is Mon-Fri 3pm-6pm. There's a good selection to choose from but, honestly the Sushi chefs are what make this place amazing! They are the best... and I love that they will drink beers and saki with me.
We both ordered off the lunch special menu. The entrees came with miso soup and salad. * Sushi Lunch | $13.95 Dr. P got the 8 piece sushi + spicy tuna roll lunch special. I had a piece of the fatty tuna sushi. It was so fresh just melt in your mouth. Dr. P loved all the sushi and the spicy tuna roll. It’s high-quality sushi considered it’s lunch special. * 2-Item Lunch Special Combo | $10.95 I ordered the 2-item combo lunch special. I picked beef short ribs for $1 extra, and a roll which I forgot the name. The roll had spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, and avocado. Both items were great. We enjoyed the food at Kampai. Dr. P wants to come back again already.
Sushi is always fresh here. They have some new rolls and decided to try the Green Bay Roll and it was pretty damn delicious. And this is coming from a Vikings fan. Staff is pretty attentive but never overbearing. All in all a great place to enjoy sushi.
Although the website says happy hour rolls are 7.50, once inside 8.50 is advertised. Other than that, my review would be 5 stars. The sushi was amazing! Our favorite was the candy roll! Loved it! Also very clean.
Great place to eat during their Happy Hour!! Selected sushi rolls are $7.50, and a few things, including their California Roll, are only $3 during Happy Hour. Most times we have been, the food has been great!! Good service most of the time too! Our go-to Sushi place!
Good dishes. Nice service but limited staff.

Cozy sushi spot with a huge variety of sushi choices. Even the Bento box offered a couple sushi choices vs just chicken, beef, salmon. Downside was the service was pretty bad. Hopefully it was a fluke day because I plan on going back to give it another try. My guests food came before mine...the table next to us that arrived quite a bit after us, got their food before me. Not sure how their communication failed but it did. I hope to do a new review next time I'm there and hopefully the service is more efficient. 🤞

Sushi was Vons quality. The Yakisoba with beef was bland and the beef was dry. The ambiance was nice and the service was excellent. They have an outstanding selection of Japanese beers on tap to include the uncommon selection of Orion beer, which I highly suggest. If you are looking for a medium priced Japanese lunch spot then this is fine within the locality.
Another overrated restaurant in SoCal. Everything, service to food, was just a OK. If you're looking for a traditional (or authentic) Japanese place, this ain't one. On the plus side: they have easy parking and outdoor seating but no heaters. Rather, we were told the existing units (which are kept inside among the tables near the patio??) did not work. I am not sure why they are still keeping them around then; perhaps to tease their customers.
Chicken Teriyaki was a little dry. The fish "Collar" slightly over cooked for my taste. The "Sushi Pizza" was delicious! Good service. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable environment.
So first of all, while looking in the area for good bento lunch box options, I came across Kampai Sushi House, which was very close to where I was, and fairly highly rated. However, when I went to the actual website to check the menu, etc., I was immediately confused. Their website makes it sound as if they are not open for in-house seating/dining. It simply says they are "now open for take-out," and it makes reference to checking back on their website for any changes. You have to scroll far down the site to find hours and menus, but still no mention of in-house dining. A call to the restaurant revealed they ARE open for dining, as well as take-out. They suggested that the site hadn't been updated since Covid... um, hello, that was years ago, as far as businesses being closed and only available for take-out. So once I figured out I could eat there, I decided to give it a try. Ordered a standard chicken bento box. The included egg flower soup was too salty (and this is coming from someone who generally likes things more heavily salted.. and is also a bit salty ;). And the bento box food... salad was not crisp and fresh like most places, the rice was dry instead of sticky and fresh, and the chicken was overcooked and bland... and also a bit dry. Overall, very average, and definitely not somewhere I'd go again. Far better choices around.
I got a crunchy roll and the beef yakisoba. While the crunchy roll was good and the noodles were decent, the beef in the yakisoba was not great, as it was pretty tough and had lots of fatty pieces. Still, good sushi, just wouldn't recommend the noodles.

Food was great, sushi chef was amazing. However they may skip your name on the waitlist. if you write your name down on the waitlist and are waiting outside the restaurant they only call out the name in the restaurant and cross it out and seat the next group.

Micro portions. See pictures. The miso soup is 2.50 and it's the smallest portion I've ever been served, usually this size is complementary and actually bigger. Rolls are decent but for the price you usually get 2 more pieces.

Used to be my family's favorite restaurant however the last 2 times we've eaten here the service has gone down hill. Our server never returned to our table to offer refills even after we flagged her down and asked for more ginger and refills. When we were ready to go we just sat there waiting for our to-go container and our bill to pay. Again no server so I got up and walked over to the register to pay for our dinner and so i kindly advised the owner that the service hasn't been the same as before. He didn't seem to give a damn. Pretty sad when the owner starts to lose interest in his own business.
So sad that a place that has good food is marred by a completely apathetic wait staff. The lunch waiters actually seemed bored servicing our table throughout the meal. Ten minutes to get water, when we asked for napkins and the guy asked if he needed to take notes because one person wanted a drink, and another wanted napkins and a glass of ice. Then I had to signal them after our credit card had sat on the table for 20 minutes. My advice is the owner needs to fire these lazy guys and turn their restaurant around.
UPDATE: We have been coming here for at least 10 years. We spend $9-10,000 here a year at this restaurant with our family. We have never had such rude/poor treatment as we did two nights ago. My husband ordered Toro. When it is good, it has a creamy smooth texture. This night the Toro was chewy and I couldn't eat it. My husband told our waiter, who went over to the sushi bar. He came back and told us the sushi chef said you are right, the piece of fish you got did have gristle in it. We'll adjust your check. What they did was discount the Toro to $25. The waiter who we've known there forever, was rude. We talked with the sushi chef/manager saying we didn't want to pay for something we did not order. He became indignant, rude and told us we didn't have to come back. Such poor customer service was shocking! I don't think things would have turned out this way if the owner, Tom had been there. Unfortunately it happened. Very popular restaurant, even on a week night you might find a wait! Fresh sushi and great teriyaki chicken. Great choices on their Bento boxes.
My family and I have been dining here for many years. We spend at least $10,000 a year between all of us. I have always enjoyed visiting with Tom, one of the owners. That all ended this evening. I ordered Toro. It's expensive because it's a delicacy. We'll this time it was not good. There were 5 pieces. The first couple were fine, but then the next couple I bit into were chewy. So I told the server who told a manager. The server came back and told me they check the piece of fish and found I was right. That in itself was weird. He might as well have said I was found not guilty of lying! Hahaha. Anyway, instead of taking it off the bill, they reduced the charge from $32 to $25. When I objected, I was given a lame excuse which I did not accept. Then, the server got rude. Next the manager was even ruder. I was shocked. I admit that I got angry at how absurd they were behaving. I paid the bill. They got their $25. And we'll spend our $10k a year at another sushi restaurant. That manager should be fired. But I think he may have been an owner, which makes it worse! Poor Tom.
I went there for the first time today and I will NOT be returning to eat here. Miguel the server was extremely nice and accommodating to us. But whoever the chick was working, she was rude and DISRESPECTFUL and talked shit on me RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME to all the staff over a DOLLAR. Miguel made me want to return, but whoever the hostess chick was(i didnt get her name), is the reason I wont be coming back. We were going to return to for the happy hour next week. She lost our business over a dollar and being downright disrespectful. She yelled at Miguel loudly over 1 dollar difference on our check. No wonder this place wasnt busy at all. Ill sti k to my sushi place. Wish I could rate 0/5 stars.
