Ordered online. Picked it up for lunch was ready on time and the food was awesome. I suggest the fish tacos
This place was recommended to us by a guy that work in the store we stopped in. The food and service was good. I would definitely come back.
Lively. Fun. Friendly. And the food is delicious too! Now, I understand why this restaurant is so popular. Everyone was ready to PARTAY! On a side note, I wish I had gone easy on the chips and salsa. I ate too many and was full before the food came out! Update: chicken and beef fajitas for the WIN!
My daughter and I tried this place and we were glad we did! The service was great! The atmosphere was great and the food and drinks were amazing! We ordered the LA Lemonade and the El Cholo Margarita both were really strong and taste delicious! I ordered the Chicken Chimichangas and my daughter ordered the Blue Corn Chicken Enchiladas. I’ve never had my Chimichanga cut in fours. That was a nice touch! We really enjoyed this place! I’ll definitely be back!……. Soon!❤️
We came here to escape the rain, and stumbled upon what feels like a hidden gem right next to LA live and the Pico train station. The food, atmosphere, service, and overall charm of this place was truly unmatched. So cozy, and full of heart. The food was well made, so flavorful, and just enough sauce! And if you get dessert, get the chocolate mousse cake!!
El Cholo is our go to restaurant when visiting LA. The food is delicious. It starts with warm chips and spicy salsa. Then you have your pick of dishes. My wife loved the mole enchiladas and I loved the steak fajitas. The portions are generous and the service is quick and friendly. You can see why this restaurant has been open for over 100 years!
I’ve eaten here three to four times and the food is excellent along with great customer service. Be careful with the chips and salsa because it’s so good that you might get too full before you get your order. I love their chili relleno, seafood dishes and the bar has a great selection of adult beverages. ***update*** I tried their fish taco plate, chicken tortilla soup & coconut margarita. The fish taco plate(I’m used to crispy fried fish rather than baked)was alright but I think the chips and salsa was the best as always. The chicken tortilla soup was also very delicious and the coconut margarita was pretty good. Parking is limited and usually paid so be aware.

Great food and absolutely amazing servers!!! They had to attend to a large party and we never noticed a lapse in service. Best service ever!!!

We were there for a concert at crypto and were pleasantly surprised at 1) service quality 5 2) food quality 4 3) they were solely playing the music of the artist we were going to the concert for 10

This salad was delicious and the service was great! The waiters were so kind and margaritas are delicious. I love the ambiance Spanish feels to the restaurant. Will be back!

I had a difficult time choosing what to order but I decided on the Carnitas. They were the best carnitas I’ve had in my life (and I’ve eaten a lot of mexican food). Hidden gem in downtown!!!

The drinks were delicious! Food was great. Had a platter with chimichangas and nachos. I had the coconut margarita and my friends had the zapatas margarita (very strong!). Cute restaurant!
We were looking for an authentic sit-down mexican restaurant close to our downtown hotel and we found El Cholo via Google. It's safe to say that this place deserves a higher rating than it current…
Classic LA restaurant! The quaint original 1923 adobe-tiled restaurant is tucked between large downtown buildings. The food is mild and maybe more gringo-oriented flavor-wise. But a fun experience.
Came in solo mid afternoon prior to Kings game. It's close to Residence Inn and the arena. I thought prices were a bit high. But quality of my margaritas and tacos were high. The salsa that came w the complimentary chips was kinda lame, but the chips came in handy scooping the rice and beans from my taco plate. Service was decent. Recommending the Al Carbon tacos.
It wasn’t bad to be honest. Food kinda took a minute but the staff was decent. Not really much to say, nothing that really stood out to me.
Middle of the Road Tex-Mex. Food was good, very greasy, exactly what you expect, nothing remarkable from it. Feels like a watered Don Cuco but still hit the spot in a pinch. Definitely suffering from “big chain restaurant” syndrome but waiters were nice and kept my chips and water filled the whole time.
Wonderful historic restaurant. Love that the plates have the year in which they were introduced. The wait staff was super friendly and accommodating. Their homemade flour tortillas are delicious. The carnitas burritos got thumbs up. The only thing that didn't get a thumbs up were the corn tortillas.
Seem like a nice place with a rich heritage and history in Downtown LA so hard to give them only 3 stars. Truth is food was marginal and Margaritas was large but lacking flavor. I have had soo many tastier Mexican dishes and drinks at far less attractive locations. But this place has character and history. Overall menu execution needs improvement.
Service was good but the food was atrocious!! It's the worst mexican food I have ever had the chile relleno was sweet for some reason and the tamales were hard and dry. The rice was undercooked the…

Old school, ambience, very authentic style, the food was good. The drinks are excellent and the service reliable. Restrooms are always kept clean and quite frankly, the restaurant itself is clean.

I came here again with a group of people and I had something different since I didn't enjoy the tamale last visit. I had the Sonora Style Enchilada which comes with red and green sauce and topped wit…
Among the oldest in the LA area. What is fun on the menu is that dishes are labeled for the daye they were introduced on the menu. Busy but one can hear. Eat there for the experience.
Had a decent lunch here- not bad, but nothing special. I was hoping for something different from what I could get at pretty much any tex-mex joint on the east coast but it was more or less the same. Good, but nothing stood out.
First time coming by this Sunday, we walked in. There was not a lot of people. It was too quiet, our food was okay. I'm not good enough to come back, did not taste a 100%. Mexican authentic, the presentation was good, but the taste just wasn't there. Too many other, it's great places in the area to even think about coming back to this one.
Seated pretty quick despite being told it would be a 45 min wait. The server was busy, but food arrived 10 minutes after ordering. My drink never did. When I asked to just cancel it, she said, "Let me check". My drink came out when I was half finished with my meal. At that point, I really didn't want it. The margarita was ok, the burrito was mostly rice and beans and very little carne asada. The included salad wasn't the freshest lettuce. Overall, it's disappointing. My spouse had the chile relleno, which was not cooked through. In summary, prices have gone way up, service was fair, food was meh. Sorry ElCholo, I've been eating at one or the other outlets for years, this time I. DTLA was a miss.
Food was delicious hands down, love a clean bathroom, but they need to work on clean silverware, dusting the restaurant more often and better parking.
We stopped by on a Sunday since the brunch spot downstairs was a 40 minute wait. I was surprised that there weren't many people eating at the restaurant since it was packed everywhere else. \n\nThe…

I was disappointed with this location. I’ve been to other El Cholo restaurants and had much better experiences. Our server seemed overwhelmed, as he was handling many tables at once, and it affected the service. We experienced slow refills on our drinks and felt some attitude when we asked for things. The food was also not to our liking. We had to return the carne en su jugo because the sauce was extremely thick, more like a tomato paste than a smooth broth. The tortilla soup was very salty as well. Overall, I’m glad I tried this location, but based on this experience, I would not return.

I dined here last night. There was a hockey game at the Crypto.com Center, so there was a 25 minute wait. Our party of five was seated, but the service was scare. The restaurant was pretty crowded …
Today I excitedly went to El Cholo for the first time and I looked forward to tasting the delicious food and experiencing the excellent service that so many folks write about in their comments. Sad…
The restaurant has a more Americanized take on Mexican food, which may appeal to some, but it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Many of the dishes seemed to use a similar tomato-based sauce, so the flavors didn’t stand out much. The cocktail drinks were disappointing and lacked balance. The place got very busy, and unfortunately the service didn’t keep up, so customer attention felt limited. Tables are also quite small, which made dining a bit uncomfortable. Overall, it may work for a quick visit if you’re nearby, but it wasn’t a standout experience for me.
So sad to see an iconic restaurant go downhill.... we ordered the chichen enchiladas, and the chicken was so dry, the carne asada quesadillas were super greasy, and the steak tasted gamey. The margaritas were overpowered by the mixer, at $16.00 per drink, we were expecting better drinks. The patio area was great and our server was nice even mentioned to give us a different dish but it was already too late. Maybe it was a slow day and the food was just sitting, unfortunately the food is not fresh.
